Fire Island vs. P-Town

Which is better?

by Anonymousreply 28May 21, 2023 10:18 PM

Depends on your age and looks.

If you're young and hawt, FI. If you're nawt, P-town.

by Anonymousreply 1May 20, 2023 10:58 PM

Better for what?

by Anonymousreply 2May 20, 2023 11:01 PM

Summer peaches and eggplant, Rose.

by Anonymousreply 3May 20, 2023 11:24 PM

P-town for sure

by Anonymousreply 4May 20, 2023 11:39 PM

for Sound of Music sing-alongs?

by Anonymousreply 5May 20, 2023 11:41 PM

Each location has its merit. But Ptown is much more of a community, more people-watching, and Commercial Street is just full of activity. Fire Island is very nice, but you don't get much of a sense of fun and community walking on the board walks of the Pines. Cherry Grove is different than the Pines, but not quite Ptown.

Both Ptwon and Fire Island is ridiculously expensive. They're just too much.

by Anonymousreply 6May 21, 2023 12:55 AM

Both very different. Fire Island is almost exclusively gay. PTown is 50% straight.

FI more sexually charged. . PTown more relaxed

I like the PTown vibe better

by Anonymousreply 7May 21, 2023 12:59 AM

I can't deal with Fire Island. P-Town is a delight.

by Anonymousreply 8May 21, 2023 1:07 AM

What R7 said. I’ve been to both places countless times. P-Town for me.

by Anonymousreply 9May 21, 2023 1:08 AM

Ptown used to be 90 percent gay.

by Anonymousreply 10May 21, 2023 1:16 AM

Apples and oranges. For me, the experience of Provincetown is nothing like the experience of Fire Island. I don’t find one necessarily better than the other.* Just very different.

What draws me to Provincetown is nothing like what draws me to Fire Island. Off season, I love both. In season, I’d rarely visit either place.

*Of course, much of what makes Fire Island special also makes it undesirable as a place to live. As holiday destinations, both can be wonderful. But obviously Provincetown is way more attractive as a place to settle down. Fire Island has virtually no infrastructure for year-round living.

by Anonymousreply 11May 21, 2023 1:39 AM

Two different towns. You should experience both.

by Anonymousreply 12May 21, 2023 3:37 AM

They don't compare. They are nothing alike. You may prefer one over another or like them both as do I. But Ptown and FI are just different.

by Anonymousreply 13May 21, 2023 3:39 AM

Palm Springs

by Anonymousreply 14May 21, 2023 3:39 AM

Both are AIDS-riddled.

by Anonymousreply 15May 21, 2023 3:51 AM

Any version of Ptown's Dick Dock at Fire Island?

One poster above said Fire Island is more sexually charged -- so it might have something similar to a DickDock?

Oh, here in the Boston area and probably in Provincetown itself, it seems some (all?) people call it Ptown, not Provincetown. Even on the local tv weather maps, whenever they give its temperature (maybe just in summer?).

by Anonymousreply 16May 21, 2023 5:26 AM

r16 I hear the formal name is Uriinetown.

by Anonymousreply 17May 21, 2023 5:29 AM

R16 apparently the meat aisle in local supermarket is very cruisy, and the shop stays open 24/7. How convenient!

by Anonymousreply 18May 21, 2023 11:16 AM

I find the housing situation on Fire Island far more complicated. Hard to go just for a weekend or a week

[Quote] Any version of Ptown's Dick Dock at Fire Island?

Sadly the apps have ruined much of that scene, even on Fire Island

by Anonymousreply 20May 21, 2023 1:11 PM

I’ve been taking a yearly trip to PTown for the last decade at least. Unfortunately, the housing prices are getting out of control. Thankfully, I’ve stayed at the same place for most of that time—and the landlord has kept my rate low, but everything around me has gone nuts. I’m sure my landlord won’t keep my rates down much longer

by Anonymousreply 21May 21, 2023 1:13 PM

R19 Not if you put out more. There’s many a Caftan owner looking to take someone under their wing and showcase them around the pool.

Which ones is better for lesbians?

by Anonymousreply 23May 21, 2023 1:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 25May 21, 2023 2:20 PM
