Best looking royal in Europe. He's very handsome but looks better without the beard. Clean-shaven, that is.

by Anonymousreply 6May 20, 2023 10:35 PM

Wait, does Greece still do the royals thing? I thought they didn't anymore.

They ARE real princes and princesses of Denmark but they have no succession rights in Denmark. Greece does NOT recognize their titles. AT ALL. They are social climbing phonies.

by Anonymousreply 20May 20, 2023 10:54 PM

They decided to keep their titles. There is no official allowance from Greece for these fucking titles.

by Anonymousreply 24May 20, 2023 10:57 PM

Pavlos was born after the royal family was deposed. A deposed royal can sometimes maintain the title but not a descendent born after the abolition. They are phonies.

by Anonymousreply 25May 20, 2023 10:58 PM

R21, true, but they use their titles as their brand. These people wouldn't want to go back to being royals living fishbowl lives where there would be a lot of restrictions and duties placed on them. As private citizens they can live however they want and trade off their royal connections.

by Anonymousreply 26May 20, 2023 11:01 PM

Dad has those Picasso-esque features that Greeks often have - but the son looks Scandinavian. Interesting.

by Anonymousreply 27May 20, 2023 11:04 PM

Yes. Their brand is phony.

by Anonymousreply 28May 20, 2023 11:04 PM

Crown Pavlos' younger brother, Prince Nikolaos and his wife, Princess Tatiana, live in Greece and are involved many charitable organizations. They actually live their lives quietly and in service to others. They are very well-spoken and dedicated.

R30. Marie-Chantal Miller was born in London, England, to Robert Warren Miller, an American-born British businessman, and his wife María Clara "Chantal" Pesantes Becerra, an Ecuadorian. So yes, the son's grandmother is from Ecuador.

by Anonymousreply 39May 20, 2023 11:25 PM

Restore the monarchy to Greece. Make it a constitutional monarchy. It would work. These people are not gimmicky. They are quite dedicated to Greece and its people. Queen Anne-Marie still lives there following the death of her husband, King Constantine, earlier this year. Here children spend a lot of time there. Nikolaos live in Greece too. The older sister, Alexia, live in Spain with her Spanish husband and four kids.

Without getting political and nasty like some of you, they are a good looking family. They are royal, royal adjacent, call it whatever you will. They are closely connected to several royal houses of Europe and are invited to every major event where royals are present. Happy Birthday, Pavlos.

by Anonymousreply 46May 20, 2023 11:33 PM

R48. Prince Carl Philip's mother, Queen Silvia of Sweden:

Silvia Renate Sommerlath was born in Heidelberg, Germany, on 23 December 1943, the only daughter of Alice (née Soares de Toledo) and Walther Sommerlath. Her father was German and her mother was Brazilian.

by Anonymousreply 50May 20, 2023 11:42 PM

R47. They have made their way in the world working. And they are all fairly wealthy. Of course Marie-Chantal came with her own load of cash. All the children of former King Constantine of Greece have jobs. I was merely commenting on the fact that the Greek family is included on the invitation list to nearly every major European royal event. King Constantine was Prince William's godfather, and Princess Diana was the godmother of Prince Philippos, the youngest of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie's five children. And they are directly related to the royals of Spain since the former Queen Sofia of Spain is King Constantine's sister.

by Anonymousreply 54May 21, 2023 12:12 AM

R54. Go on YouTube. Queen Anne-Marie, Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos and Princess Alexia have all given interviews speaking fluent Greek. Prince Pavlos even delivered the eulogy in Greek at his father's funeral this past January at the Greek Cathedral in downtown Athens. So yes, the family speaks Greek including King Constantine's wife, Queen Anne-Marie, who grew up in Denmark.

by Anonymousreply 58May 21, 2023 12:31 AM

R65. King Constantine looks as Greek as anyone in my family who is 100 percent Greek. Crown Prince Pavlos looks Greek to me. Besides, they are Greek culturally and have been for ages.

Do the Windsors all look English, when in fact they have German roots? The Spanish royal family is half Greek through Queen Sofia, sister of King Constantine. The Swedish royal family is half German. Crown Prince Mary of Denmark is Australian. What difference does it make what a person looks like? The fact is, these families have been in the country they represent for generations including the Greek royals which makes them worthy of saying they are Greek, Spanish, Swedish, etc., respectively.

Wrong R42, it just happens that his mother was born a Princess of Denmark, who married her cousin, King Constantine, born a Prince of Greece and Denmark, as are all Greek royal descendants of Prince William of Denmark, who was appointed to be King of Greece at the age of 17 in 1863 and took the regal name of George I.

by Anonymousreply 75May 21, 2023 8:49 AM

[quote] Besides, they are Greek culturally and have been for ages.

Uh, no. The Greek royal family doesn't have a drop of Greek blood in its veins. Being born in Greece does not make one Greek, culturally or ethnically. They're all Danish on the paternal side everything from Russians, Germans to Danes on the maternal side. One reason the Greeks won't restore the monarchy, even on a ceremonial basis. Because they know that there ain't a Greek in the lot.

by Anonymousreply 76May 21, 2023 9:09 AM

Someone called Prince Michael of Greece popped up on my Instagram Explore yesterday. He is a first cousin of the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He was also a first cousin of King Paul, the father of King Constantine and grandfather of Pavlos and his siblings. I'm not sure what kind of cousin that makes him of Pavlos, etc., but he looks a lot like Pavlos's brothers, Nikolaos and Philippos.

by Anonymousreply 85May 21, 2023 11:17 AM

OP I knew/know Pavlos’ brother Philippos, we attended Georgetown together. We socialized through mutual friends. It always made people chuckle when his close friends would say in hushed tones “well, he has to marry well. You know who he is, right?” Lol

He had to marry well because the grift is up and they need money. He ain’t Greek, and the last time I checked Greece doesn’t even want them traveling there. He woulda done well to marry anyone. He’s nice enough but only passably intelligent. Most of the girls at G’town were ambitious and wanted more than a fraud whose family openly engages in delusions of yesteryear.

by Anonymousreply 86May 21, 2023 11:25 AM

Oh he married well - his wife is an heiress to her father’s fortune. She gets to be a princess and he gets access to lots of dollars one day. Same as all his married siblings.

R87 my post was about Philippos. Is English your second language?

by Anonymousreply 88May 21, 2023 11:35 AM

R76, it sounds like the former "Greek" royal family thought it was beneath them to marry into an actual Greek family. Were any actual Greek people granted any sort of royal status?

by Anonymousreply 89May 21, 2023 11:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 92May 21, 2023 11:39 AM

by Anonymousreply 93May 21, 2023 11:40 AM

The Greeks fucking hate their former royal family. Unless they keep marrying well, they'll slowly flame out over the coming decades.

by Anonymousreply 94May 21, 2023 11:43 AM

R89, when Constantine and his predecessors married, it was still in the days when European royals still mostly married European royals. His kids grew up outside of Greece, so they were more likely to find non-Greek partners than Greek ones.

by Anonymousreply 95May 21, 2023 11:43 AM

They don't hate them, r94, they're just not into them.

by Anonymousreply 96May 21, 2023 11:45 AM

R93 that’s the point. Marrying well to this lot means snagging a bride whose family worked for their wealth so that their family could afford to keep up the illusion of pretension. The “Greek” “royal” family’s only concern was still getting invited to family functions without rewearing tattered clothes.

by Anonymousreply 97May 21, 2023 11:46 AM

English is my first language, R88 - I was talking about Philippos, the youngest son, who married Nina Flohr, not Pavlos, the eldest son, who married Marie-Chantal Miller. Nobody is confusing Mr Flohr’s wealth with that of Robert Miller, apart from you.

But what if English wasn’t my first language? So what? Your alleged Georgetown education certainly didn’t equip you with basic good manners.

Run along, little fantasist.

by Anonymousreply 98May 21, 2023 12:15 PM

So , why did Greece abolish the monarchy fifty years ago?

by Anonymousreply 99May 21, 2023 12:25 PM

R99 read a book! Or a Wiki entry if your attention span is that short.

It involves Cold War politics, a military junta, a weak royal tradition, socialists(!), and even a prime minister who earlier had been a professor and chair of the economics dept. at Berkeley. Now go read!

by Anonymousreply 100May 21, 2023 12:32 PM

Incidentally, I once read about the Carthaginian Empire (present-day Tunisia) and how they abolished their monarchy in the 4th century B.C. after only four hundred years.

Carthage would then be destroyed in the 2nd century B.C. by the Romans, following the Punic Wars.

I just find it interesting that a couple of centuries before Rome ceased to be a republic and had emperors, ancient Tunisians already thought the concept of royalty was dumb.

by Anonymousreply 101May 21, 2023 1:05 PM

R97, the Greek ex-royals would never have worn tattered clothes. As with Harry, there's lots of inherited private wealth and investments. But, why not marry a member of the international jet set if you can? In a sense, that international elite is all that's available for them now (as opposed to nice middle-class girls such as the former Kate Middleton) and it's the world in which they move.

Pavlos is the co-founder of various hedge funds and asset managers, one of which Ortelius, Philippos works or worked for. They are doing fine.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 102May 21, 2023 1:08 PM

That's not really a great example of the apparent dumbness of monarchical systems, r101, if you consider the subsequent histories of Carthage and Rome.

Certainly for the newly created modern Greek state, after the War of Independence against the Ottoman empire, acquiring a monarch and a royal family was the one way to stabilise their sovereignty and gain a steady foothold within Europe. The same was true for the other newly independent Balkan states, which is why they also acquired monarchies. The fact, however, that those monarchies only went back a couple of generations is also why it was so easy to shed the monarchy with the turbulence of the 20th century.

by Anonymousreply 105May 21, 2023 5:25 PM

Pavlos' younger sister, Theodora, is apparently finally getting married this year, after Covid and her father's death resulted in delays to her nuptials. The lucky groom is an American lawyer called Matthew Kumar.

by Anonymousreply 109May 21, 2023 7:33 PM

Insane wealth + royal adjacent is a win-win situation for both parties, r109. The ex-royals can lead lives of unimagined wealth, while the new billionaires can have doors opened for them that money can't buy.

by Anonymousreply 110May 21, 2023 7:38 PM

R7 it’s really stupid and a slap in the face to actual Greeks that these non-Greeks keep using their title. Their kids can’t even speak Greek. Then again, William didn’t bother to learn Welsh, despite the obvious.

Anyway, the Greek government has asked the to stop using their titles but they persist. Helps that they have close ties to the Danish, Swedish, and British monarchies, who will not stop recognizing them. The Spanish, having been in their position less than 100 years ago, also have every incentive to recognize them. But it’s ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 111May 21, 2023 7:48 PM

R42 why does the Danish queen allow them to retain their princely titles, but actual blood princess and princesses (Queen’s grandchildren) had to relinquish their titles? Who are these fake Greek’s fucking to keep this gravy train moving?

by Anonymousreply 112May 21, 2023 7:53 PM

I don't think the Greek government asked them to stop referring to themselves with those titles, r111, the Greek state itself just doesn't recognise them.

by Anonymousreply 113May 21, 2023 8:03 PM

Pavlos and Marie Chantal seem to have created a successful marriage and happy family, as these things go. They remind me a bit of the Middletons with a tight family unit that seems to enjoy spending time together, at least based on social media. MC was vocal early on about wanting to genuinely mother her children and did not ship them off to boarding school, as she and her sisters were.

by Anonymousreply 114May 21, 2023 8:43 PM

R112 The Danish queen didn’t relinquish her grandkids’ princely titles, which are their birthright by law, just the HRH and gifted titles. I suppose the “Greeks” are princes under Danish law through their mother.

by Anonymousreply 123May 22, 2023 2:17 AM

Wrong r115, she demoted them to Counts and Countess. This is why their father was pissed. His kids went from royal to aristocratic. Their birthright where their princely titles. The Queen had to even issue an apology because her cuntiness came out to the public.

"What happened? Queen Margrethe "decided that, as of 1 January 2023, His Royal Highness Prince Joachim's descendants can only use their titles as counts and countess of Monpezat, as the titles of prince and princess that they have held up until now will be discontinued."

So, this begs the question, why the fuck do the Greeks retain a Danish princely title? At least her grandsons served, for a moment, in the Danish military.

You can go onto YouTube and find interviews given by the queen and her children all speaking Greek. I don't know if the younger children Princess Theodora and Prince Philippos speak Greek, but I suspect they do. The family spends summers in Greece. Philippos helps his brother, Nikolaos, with various charitable efforts. Nikolaos and his wife, Princess Tatiana, live full-time in Greece and are very involved with raising money and serving charitable organizations in the country. Queen Anne-Marie also lives in Greece full-time. Pavlos and Marie Chantal have also been spending time there to support the quuen since the death of the king.

R60 & R62 -- Autocorrect turned Pavlos into Pablo, but you say that both my paragraphs are wrong. No snark, but then why wouldn't CP Pavlos be considered the king? Will he "just" the CP until/if the monarchy is revived. Genuinely curious.

As for Pss Margaret curtsying, I swore I saw that somewhere but if I'm wrong I'm wrong. I'm curious, however, as to how one categorically states that she did no such thing. Rather implies you've seen every greeting that she had with King Michael.

Because there is no monarchy! There will not be any monarchy. The end.

R58, R128 your OCD is exhausting.

They are a very good looking family, and of course all speak fluent Greek. The king and his family spent every summer in Greece, he has/had a sailing yacht and that was his passion every summer. They had a big house by the sea but recently sold it before the kings death. Each of them has two armed security guards. Nikolaos used to drink in my friends bar before he married, and I used to see the security guards discreetly in the background with their guns strapped to their backs.

King Constantine was actually great fun and loved a party, he was a favourite of the late Queen. I’ve been at several parties were he and his wife were there and they always looked like they were having fun.

Oh for chrissakes, laying it on thick.

by Anonymousreply 132May 22, 2023 10:15 PM

R132 You have a problem?

by Anonymousreply 133May 22, 2023 10:17 PM

The stink of the asslicking is making me woozy.

by Anonymousreply 134May 22, 2023 10:19 PM

Being good-looking and going to a bar with armed guards is no qualification for restoring the monarchy fifty years after the Greeks (the real ones) kicked them out).

by Anonymousreply 135May 22, 2023 10:20 PM

I am not saying they should be restored, and they never will be. A few people on the thread were saying how good looking Nikolais is, and I was just saying that the whole family is blessed with good looks. They are not royal but still have paid full royal protection. When Greeks speak about them they mostly still refered to him as the king.

Grifters living off the fat of stolen goods. A car bomb would amuse.

by Anonymousreply 137May 22, 2023 10:43 PM

So, they are plebs like you, r131.

Pavlos is renowned for being an idiot whose daddy's personal friend Alexander "Alecko" Papamarkou (in exchange for a finder's fee, of course), arranged his marriage to the fabulously wealthy, but trashy nouveau riche Marie-Chantal, who is a horrid bitch of nightmarish proportions. When the match proved to be successful, Constantine refused to pay Papamarkou the agreed amount of money and broke off their lifelong friendship. He didn't care about losing such a powerful friendship because Robert Miller was just as wealthy as Papamarkou and über-cunt arriviste Marie-Chantal came with a USD 200 million dowry, which was a godsend for the cash poor Greek royal family.

Pavlos is even more ill-equipped to become king than his already incompetent father, who made a complete disaster of his handling of the 1967 military coup, and was bested by the generals and the CIA when he tried to wrest power from the military and become an absolute monarch. Pavlos has consistently proven to be incapable of even speaking in public without making a fool out of himself, so we can imagine how limited his talents are and how his performance as a symbolic figure in Greece would be.

The Greek branch of the Glücksburgs are just an embarrassment and they ought to count themselves lucky that Sofia married the corrupt sociopath Juan Carlos, who financially supported them for 25 years until they hit the jackpot. They each have a single brain cell, but at least the sons have married upstart heiresses whose social ambition has allowed them to live in luxury. The daughters are as stupid as they are plain and have married mere wannabes. That, however, hasn't been an impediment for them to survive by constantly taking advantage of anyone they could and sucking up to anyone who is powerful and could provide them with some sort of benefit - they are the ultimate hustlers of European royal circles, even if their stupidity has prevented them from going very far.

Pavlos and Marie-Cuntal's children are useless and have never achieved anything of significance. Constantine-Alexios couldn't even study a degree in Law like his father and only achieved a Bachelor of Arts in English, which he has used for modelling and being an influencer (which is, incidentally, what his very plain sister Maria Olympia does as well). The fact that a royal family's children would choose a profession that placed them at the same level of random trash like the Kuntrashians, James Charles and PewDiePie, is a MASSIVE embarrassment. These profoundly stupid, narcissistic individuals should NEVER be allowed to go anywhere near a throne.

R138 Why am I a pleb for attending a party and having a good time? Better than been a miserable and bitter cunt like you. Who the fuck would invite you and your scraggy arse to a party. Fuck off back to your box of wine saddo.

R139 bravissimo!

This thread and the royalist stans on it really are the most random and deplorable shilling in quite some time.

by Anonymousreply 143May 22, 2023 11:35 PM

who sounds bitter and miserable?

by Anonymousreply 144May 22, 2023 11:48 PM

Crown Prince Pavlos and smart, engaging and enterprising and would do well for the people of Greece.

by Anonymousreply 145May 23, 2023 12:38 AM

Are you Greek, R145, as you seem to be speaking for them?

by Anonymousreply 146May 23, 2023 1:00 AM

Well R145 is certainly ESL. One hopes.

by Anonymousreply 147May 23, 2023 1:01 AM

So what if he is, R147? What’s your second language?

“One hopes” - are you a pompous twat or just trying to sound like one?

by Anonymousreply 148May 23, 2023 1:07 AM

Nikolaos and Tatiana just announced they're divorcing after 14 years. No kids. This seemed the best place to put this. They didn't seem to spend much time together or travel together much, I wonder if they were waiting for his father to pass on and the memorials to be done before they publicly announced.
