There are crocs in South Florida but not many. None in Texas or Louisiana

Because American Alligators are cute and smiley. And when they're little and you hold them in your hands, they make THE cutest little "chirp, chirp, squeak!" noises. Plus, in alligator vs cat, they'll back down from a cat in a heartbeat.
American Crocodiles look TERRIFYING and soooooo much more primitive hellscape-y than A. Alligator.
