My money is on Damian Chazelle or Tom Hooper. I guess the first move would be to determine who won an Oscar and was attached to a Marvel film. The other winners of the past 20 years or so (Lawrence is 33) don’t seem likely.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 29, 2023 6:14 PM |
Interesting thought — while Waititi didn’t win his Oscar for directing; his came from writing. But he is a director so he could be described as an Oscar-winning director.

Kevin Spacey is an Oscar winning (for acting) director. He directed Albino Alligator in 1996 when Lawrence was 16 and Beyond The Sea in 2004 when Lawrence was 24.
"True, but Polaroids are popular again now."
They never totally went away. Maybe for a few years in the late 1990s/early 2000s. And there would be no electronic record of a polaroid being taken, and they could be easily traded between the director & whoever else.

A male actor's body is a very important consideration for casting a superhero movie. Lawrence would have been best suited for an X-Men movie, so I'm assuming that's what it was. Maybe X-Men: Days of Future Past or X-Men: Apocalypse.

You have prude actors who think they are better than others and refuse to cooperate. With female actors, I can understand the intimidation and why it's bad, but with male actors, it's just transactional. It's an offer on the table, take it or leave it: a movie role in exchange for a blow job.

Okay, I realize this is a REAL stretch as explanation but I wonder if he just meant Oscar *nominated* and not winning? I notice a lot of times people will tag someone as a past winner (like for example Sigourney Weaver) even though they never actually won but were just nominated. If he misspoke, then that would expand the possibilities as to whom this could be.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 29, 2023 9:26 PM |
There are Oscar-winning directors who made Marvel films prior to Marvel becoming a juggernaut. That category includes Ang Lee and Guillermo del Toro. But the timelines wouldn't work if the director won prior to the hotel room encounter. Also, he starts to say "producer" at one point and corrects himself. James Schamus ("Hulk") producer would've been my guess for that one but I don't think he's won an Oscar.
Unless he says otherwise in another clip, it could've been a name that was only briefly attached to the development of the project in question.

The Brandon Routh rumors were completely homophobic, people were surprised by his out of nowhere casting and assumed he had prostituted himself to the gay director. Bryan Singer told the anecdote of his casting, he says he wanted an actor who reminded him of Reeve’s performance, and when he met Routh for dinner Routh accidentally knocked over the table salt when shaking his hand, and became flustered and embarrassed and it made Singer think he could recapture the essence of Reeves’s Clark Kent.
Routh’s subsequent career stalled (he talks about this in the Michael Rosenbaum podcast) because he was expecting to get big offers for starring roles but instead was getting B-movie horror lead offers and he turned them down and then he got nothing and had to rebuild his career from scratch.

Kenneth Branagh, directed "Thor." Won Oscar for Best Screenplay for "Belfast."
Joe Johnston, directed "Captain America." Won Oscar for Best Visual Effects for "Raiders of the Lost Ark."
Taikia Waititi, directed "Thor: Ragnarok." Won Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Jojo Rabbit."
But among these three, only Branagh is whom I would consider "prominent."
by Anonymous | reply 150 | April 30, 2023 6:20 PM |
Please. If it's any of those three, then Lawrence is absolutely lying. He was well past his freshness date by then. He was in his 30s. You pull this kind of thing on young twinks who don't know any better, not someone who is closing in on middle age and hair plugs.

It was all a ploy anyway because once was nude the director would have suggested why not let me jerk you off or blow you. His agency is vile too. They didn’t want it to get out to flyover about their nasty homosexual escapades and they figured since he refused he might be sour grapes.

He’s confusing the Oscar angle because The Usual Suspects won the Screenplay Oscar, but that was for Chris Macquarrie, not Singer. But this is how Singer behaved, this was Marvel, and Lawrence at 18 would be the type of young man Singer would predate on.

R106 and R162, R104 and R161 are Poo Shoes, who trolls this site constantly. She probably can't see her comments because they or other comments on the same login (she has dozens going at a time) are being FFed by other users. And when they are, first they disappear (depending on your flames & freaks filter in settings), then if we're fortunate enough, they get red-tagged. She's trying to figure out which comment(s) are getting flamed, or even if they are hers.
In a similar vein, I noticed that she deleted a bunch of login accounts yesterday. About 15% of my many blocked accounts (most of which are D@vida) disappeared overnight. Half or more of the comments in the Detroit neurosurgeon murder thread are hers, speculating wildly between Adderall doses with vodka chasers. She's doing this a lot now - deleting login accounts after only a few posts in order to stay ahead of the FFs and red lines, between Bellagio toilet scours and fenty hits.

Pity her - after all, she never had any parts in the legitimate theater/cinema.
What I really despise about it all is that she sometimes steals content from people's TikTok and Instagram accounts in order to amplify her deceptions.
P.S. She is also responsible for the periodic schiessesturme of threads about pooping and farting.
Was Bryan Singer ever known for taking Polaroids?
Before the advent of digital, which, again, would make the year 1999 the perfect time for this story to have happened- Polaroids would have been regularly used at the casting stage. A sleazy director would use the excuse to “take Polaroids” to get an actor or model to remove his clothing in front of him. Actors of course would bring their headshot with them but a casting person would want Polaroids to see what the actor looked like without the benefit of professional lighting hair and makeup.
Another thing to consider is that Matthew Lawrence would have been considered small-time famous by 1999, he had appeared in Mrs. Doubtfire as a child actor and several television series as a teenager, so, um… Singer probably would be familiar with him if he, assuredly, would have kept an eye on teenage heartthrobs through the 1990s. So for those of you saying “Oh, 18/19 is too old for Singer”, you have to realize that Singer may have had an eye on him since Matthew appeared in Mrs. Doubtfire at the age of…. Drumroll… twelve.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | May 1, 2023 1:53 AM |
R215 Having more education would certainly help them be less sociopathic and mentally ill.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | May 1, 2023 1:53 AM |
R217 spot on. Also Bryan Singer routinely messed with, sought guys in the 18-21 range who still look liked teens. He had a type.
by Anonymous | reply 219 | May 1, 2023 1:58 AM |
Bryan Singer doesn't seem to be into boys as young as 12. And we may not even be talking about Bryan Singer anyway. But whoever the director was he had probably seen Boy Meets World when Matthew Lawrence was a young adult.
As for Polaroids, I doubt the director would be the one snapping Polaroids at audtions, nor would he be meeting actors in his bathrobe in hotel rooms. None of this would be standard for an Oscar-winning film director auditioning a well known actor like Lawrence.
by Anonymous | reply 220 | May 1, 2023 2:08 AM |

Lawrence mentioned in his clip that this was 20 years ago, so likely not any of the MCU directors. I'm thinking R186 may have pinned the tail on the berobed director, though I suppose it could always have been Singer looking to cast Iceman or Pyro and going older than his usual range out of [italic]Boy Meets World[/italic] nostalgia.

by Anonymous | reply 223 | May 1, 2023 2:17 AM |
There is the standard audition process done thru casting and then there are instances where a director has an eye on a known actor for a certain role and will just call to meet with the actor. This is can be a very informal process, I remember Will Smith said he was offered Men in Black by Steven Spielberg after being invited to Spielberg’s home and meeting his family.
It is not out of the line to imagine a somewhat known child actor like Matthew Lawrence would have been summoned to a hotel bungalow at the Marmont or Beverly Hills - where a lot of these meetings actually take place, they rent a bungalow - simply expecting to have dinner or an informal meeting in the suite and discuss the role. This would also be pretty common during the casting process to ensure privacy rather than say being spotted having lunch in Spago and having it reported in the gossip columns.
by Anonymous | reply 224 | May 1, 2023 2:19 AM |
As for the role, it most likely would have been whatever Shawn Ashmore was eventually cast in, as he is one year older Han Lawrence.

I remember Benedict Cumberbatch, who is universally regarded as a very intelligent person, was promoting The Penguins of Madagascar on Graham Norton and appeared under the impression that Disney had made it (it was Dreamworks, and there is an intense rivalry between the two animation houses so I doubt that went down well.)

R10 & R12 (and elsewhere) — sorry, looked up IMDB and it was a math failure on my part. He is 43, as you state.

It shows a lack of imagination to suppose Bryan Singer is the only director going after young guys in Hollywood.
And if you're talking errors, maybe Matthew meant DC, not Marvel, and Joel Schumacher (Batman). Once you assume he's wrong you can make all kinds of assumptions.

I first read this as "Martin Lawrence shares #metoo story...."

R266 has won the thread. You may close it now.

Makes me wonder if the "Brotherly Love" director wanted a demonstration.

r266 Is Andrew Lawrence widely regarded as the hotter brother?
by Anonymous | reply 270 | May 3, 2023 12:42 AM |
R270 He's the youngest, hence Bryan's interest.

Singer hasn't been an Oscar anything, but the original X-Men movie was back in 2000, when Matthew was 20-ish and still fuckable.
He complains that people aren't interested in men's metoo stories....dude, maybe people would be interested if you actual exposed this predator instead of giving him a pass by refusing to say his name. If women could expose Weinstein, R. Kelly, etc.....what is stopping you from saying this guy's name out loud?
Are you serious? Do you know how long it took and how many women had to speak out before something was done?
I know a guy who was a Bryan Singer boytoy. He was about 21 when he met Bryan. A twink but not a kid
Was it Colto?
I thought of Shawn Ashmore, too.
The Ashmore twins lived with Bryan when they were filming X-Men.

There’s an old blind item that stated that actor Judd Herschel allegedly raped one of the Laboryteaux brothers after inviting him into his dressing room. Got him drunk and sodomized him.
I read it few years ago. Allegedly it happened to the one who doesn’t really act anymore. I get them mixed up. I think it’s the one who starred in the Little House on the Prairie show. I also know some folks here think that Entertainment Lawyer is not reliable.
But why would anyone make it up?
by Anonymous | reply 274 | May 9, 2023 3:15 PM |
R274, they were both on Little House.
by Anonymous | reply 275 | May 9, 2023 3:16 PM |
One of them worked with Judd on a television show or film project.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | May 9, 2023 3:18 PM |
Judd HIRSCH, not HERSCHEL…
by Anonymous | reply 277 | May 9, 2023 3:22 PM |
Apparently Matthew appeared with Judd Hirsch in King of the Gypsies (1978), but we was only 11 years old at the time. I don’t see Judd getting an 11-year-old drunk.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | May 9, 2023 3:28 PM |
R274, I checked IMDb and it was the KING OF THE GYPSIES. And it was Matthew Layborteaux. He had to be no more than thirteen if this allegation is true. Shit.
There were TONS of rumors about Brandon Routh fucking for the role in Superman Returns. Supposedly he stopped once the camera started rolling and that's why his career flopped.
Or he's just not a great actor. Both Brandon and Henry got screwed over by WB. Although Brandon doesn't seem to be a dick and did get a chance to play Superman again.

It's been said Andrew looks like a young Jackie Gleason with them bulging eyes.

Didn’t Hirsch, Danza and Conway all run a train on Merilu Henner?
Didn’t Hirsch, Danza and Conway all run a train on Merilu Henner?
It was 7:43pm on October 4, 1978. Judd came first, then Tony and then Jeff. After we showered, we all went out to IHOP at 10:45pm. Tony had steak and eggs, Judd had an omlette, and Jeff did coke in the men's room. I had yogurt.
