Somebody Somewhere

Creepiest cast ever?

Including the serial killer from American Horror Story NYC.

Omg.

I love this show!!!!

by Anonymousreply 2April 19, 2023 2:08 AM

Beautiful show. Ugly cast. But it works.

by Anonymousreply 3April 19, 2023 2:26 AM

I loved it. Ugly cried at points, and ultimately felt refreshed at the end.

by Anonymousreply 4April 19, 2023 3:37 AM

I really enjoy it. Season 2 premiers tomorrow 23 April. HBO.

I just binge watched season 1, it touches home for me. I spent a lot of time in Manhattan, KS in the early 80s going to “gay parties” out in the country. These characters are all too real to me.

by Anonymousreply 6April 29, 2023 4:13 PM

R6 were they fun? Any hot farm boys?

by Anonymousreply 7April 29, 2023 4:19 PM

The only creep is you, OP.

by Anonymousreply 8April 29, 2023 5:13 PM

R7: as I recall Yes and No. I saw my first drag show at these country parties, some Queen doing a Sheena Easton routine. There were a lot of early 80s misfits there but I did hook up with my first ever sexual experience. Sadly I don’t remember much of it but thankfully I’ve had a very fulfilling sex life over the years. Looking forward to season 2 of this series.

by Anonymousreply 9April 30, 2023 1:08 AM

Well I didn't play super close attention and I didn't get the message of Episode 1. It seemed like catching up and some existential crisis or something something.

by Anonymousreply 10April 30, 2023 1:40 AM

I like this show and how they handled the missing dad. The actor died so they had his character go off sailing with his brother.

by Anonymousreply 11April 30, 2023 1:45 AM

Really like the show and the actors.

by Anonymousreply 12April 30, 2023 1:47 AM

R11 I didn't know that.

by Anonymousreply 13April 30, 2023 1:50 AM

I clicked on this thread because I thought it was about Somewhere at Last the Judy Garland song from A Star is Born.

Its sweet. It’s different. It’s just heavy enough without being depressing. Love the cast.

by Anonymousreply 15April 30, 2023 7:47 PM

I cannot believe they brought this shitty show back. I had hoped that at least Zaslav would kill all the chaff with the wheat when restructuring things for the worse.

I love Bridget Everett, but goddamn, this show is awful.

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2023 7:50 PM

R16 You sound special.

by Anonymousreply 17May 1, 2023 7:04 PM

Why are they all so aggressively unattractive?

by Anonymousreply 18May 4, 2023 1:25 AM

R18-Ever been to Kansas?

by Anonymousreply 19May 4, 2023 1:50 AM

I think it's refreshing that they all look like normal people you'd see in the midwest.

by Anonymousreply 20May 4, 2023 2:39 AM

I expected to like this show, but I watched all of the first season and just didn't. I don't get Bridget Everett.

by Anonymousreply 21May 4, 2023 2:48 AM

Love the show, but Season 2 off to an odd start...

by Anonymousreply 22May 4, 2023 3:20 AM

The fat main character needs a job.

by Anonymousreply 23May 4, 2023 3:58 PM

R23 in the last episode they showed her working in a jewelry store.

by Anonymousreply 24May 4, 2023 6:05 PM

My current fav show.

I don't need to see pretty people all the time.

by Anonymousreply 25May 4, 2023 8:17 PM

It’s a small show by design.

by Anonymousreply 26May 4, 2023 8:34 PM

The show was nominated for a Peabody. It’s a wonderful show. Oddly and terrifically quirky.

by Anonymousreply 27May 4, 2023 8:44 PM

I’m with you r16. I watched an episode and a half and bailed. I don’t understand the love for this unappetizing show.

by Anonymousreply 28May 4, 2023 10:52 PM

It’s refreshing because it’s a way more accurate depiction of white America than actual white Hollywood. You see these people everyday than someone who looks like Brad Pitt and Angelina.

by Anonymousreply 29May 4, 2023 10:56 PM

I love it, very honest and heartfelt. And as a native Kansan I appreciate the Midwest references.

by Anonymousreply 30May 4, 2023 11:23 PM

Oh my good, S2, E2 is called “#2”. Fucking hilarious diarrhea scene. Watch out for the St. Louis sushi!

by Anonymousreply 31May 7, 2023 4:13 PM

I love this show!

by Anonymousreply 32May 7, 2023 4:18 PM

That scene had me in stitches R32.

by Anonymousreply 33May 7, 2023 4:30 PM

R11 aw I didn’t know he died. I thought he was on a brief sailing trip and we’d see him again. I liked his friendship with Fred. I guess he’s going to die on his sailing trip?

They can kill off the mom now. Or just leave her in the care center permanently. Don’t need too much of her.

by Anonymousreply 34May 7, 2023 4:36 PM

The scene that had me laughing my ass off was when Joel and Sam went to her sister’s for dinner and the sister asked Joel if he knew what the pencil test was and then stuck a pencil under her boob to show that it would fall out because her boobs don’t sag. Then Sam grabbed a bottle of salad dressing and shoved it under her boob and of course it stuck. And then they both asked Joel which boob he preferred. They were tipsy and laughing and it was so funny.

by Anonymousreply 35May 7, 2023 4:45 PM

[quote] They can kill off the mom now.

I thought they were doing that in the last episode of season one. She went into the barn with a gun. I guess they kept her.

by Anonymousreply 36May 7, 2023 4:56 PM

Me too R36

by Anonymousreply 37May 7, 2023 5:45 PM

I was howling with St Louis Sushi. I adore this show.

by Anonymousreply 38May 7, 2023 7:23 PM

Very believable reaction to the breathing exercise. Painful to watch.

by Anonymousreply 39May 8, 2023 4:44 AM

I knew Joel and St. Louis Sushi guy would connect. Cute.

by Anonymousreply 40May 8, 2023 4:49 AM

The SLS actor has certainly made a career out of playing gay characters for years. Not sure what his name is but I've seen him in so many shows.

by Anonymousreply 41May 8, 2023 11:06 AM

I also think it is one funny and very touching show.

by Anonymousreply 42May 8, 2023 11:10 AM

R41 Tim Bagley. I know him best from Monk where he played Monk’s arch nemesis, Harold. But you’re right, he’s had small parts in many tv shows.

by Anonymousreply 43May 8, 2023 1:09 PM

I caught this series (1st season) on HBOMax last year. Really liked it - especially Bridget Everett. I bet she's a fun person to hang with. I have yet to see Season 2 yet - recording the season for viewing later. Another kinda querky show on MAX is Camping - it's an older series that had only one season. Juliette Lewis is great as a spaced out, new age type and the cast overall is good. That is all.

by Anonymousreply 44May 8, 2023 4:54 PM

One of my favorite lines was when Sam was sitting in the kitchen in her underwear and Fred and Joel were like ‘woah, your bush’ and she says: “I’m a child of the 70’s and my bush should be a reflection of that.”

Same.

by Anonymousreply 45May 8, 2023 5:22 PM

Isn't the character too young to be a child o the 70s?

by Anonymousreply 46May 8, 2023 10:04 PM

Enjoy your Friends reruns OP. Let the rest of us enjoy this show in peace.

by Anonymousreply 47May 8, 2023 10:11 PM

She's in her late 40s. I think one episode mentioned 49 so she was born in the 1970s.

by Anonymousreply 48May 9, 2023 5:01 AM

Ever been to one of Bridgett's shows at Joe's Pub? She is one wild lady and lots of dirty fun.

by Anonymousreply 49May 9, 2023 4:11 PM

It's a wonderful show. So warm and funny and touching, but never in an exaggerated way. It feels very realistic.

by Anonymousreply 50May 9, 2023 6:14 PM

I wonder why they send the father off on a trip instead of having him die.

by Anonymousreply 51May 9, 2023 7:17 PM

My guess is they already had the story arcs written and Sam was very close to her dad so that would throw everything off.

Will probably have him die in the season finale.

by Anonymousreply 52May 9, 2023 7:26 PM

Does St. Louis Sushi always play that part? Didn’t he do it in both Will and Grace and Grace and Frankie?

by Anonymousreply 53May 9, 2023 7:27 PM

I'm sad St. Luis Sushi guy's horse duvers made them sick. I hope Joel is a forgiving type because that would be an amusing couple for a couple dates, at least.

by Anonymousreply 54May 9, 2023 7:31 PM

Joel picked up a driftwood looking stick on his walk with Sam last episode, so I think he was thinking of sushi guy and the stick trophies he makes for his students. How sweet.

Plus next week he goes to his church to see him. Joel is a forgiving type.

I want a friend like Joel.

by Anonymousreply 55May 9, 2023 8:01 PM

I love this show and their friendship. I first noticed Joel in Crazy Ex Girlfriend. I loved Bridget in Patticake$ and the Fred character is the best.

by Anonymousreply 56May 12, 2023 1:39 PM

After every episode I feel like I just spent 30 mins with friends. I know....MARY! But it's such a warm and funny show and the friends talk to eachother like real friends. It's sweet. Special nod to Murray Hill for being Murray Hill.

by Anonymousreply 57May 12, 2023 1:57 PM

Exactly, it's so real. The sisterly relationship too. I have a sense of foreboding that the sister will hook up with Fred's fiancee. There's a reason Sam wanted to kibosh all of that and didn't trust her

by Anonymousreply 58May 12, 2023 2:15 PM

Such a great show. Agree with your R57. Feel like they're friends...because their relationships are authentic and so much like my relationships.

by Anonymousreply 59May 12, 2023 2:35 PM

I agree wholeheartedly with R57 and the other posters above who see the appeal of this show its actors.

by Anonymousreply 60May 12, 2023 2:39 PM

R60 here — sorry for the typo

…see the appeal of this show AND it’s actors**

by Anonymousreply 61May 12, 2023 2:44 PM

R20 they do not look normal. Maybe the female but the male who was also on last season’s AHS: NYC is UGLY!!

by Anonymousreply 62May 12, 2023 3:52 PM

He's ugly but within the norm of ugly. I would get used to his looks in half a day, as I did on the first episode of this season.

by Anonymousreply 63May 12, 2023 3:54 PM

I hate Bridget’s singing voce. Cringey.

by Anonymousreply 64May 12, 2023 3:59 PM

I have to mute the singing parts. Not because she’s awful, I just don’t like singing on shows like this.

Amy Sedaris liking the Lying Cunt pillow was funny. Of course Tricia would have no idea who that was, lol.

by Anonymousreply 65May 12, 2023 4:04 PM

I hope HBO starts selling LYING CUNT pillows on their website. They would make wonderful holiday gifts.

by Anonymousreply 66May 12, 2023 4:36 PM

You either get it or you don't. Obviously the OP should go back to watching Real Housewives.

by Anonymousreply 67May 12, 2023 6:44 PM

I love Jeff/Joel's looks. He reminds me of a cute little 50's Napco Elf figurine.

by Anonymousreply 68May 12, 2023 6:46 PM

Murray Hill just kills me. Like a fun/warm/cheesy Uncle.

by Anonymousreply 69May 12, 2023 6:49 PM

Apparently, Bridget, Jeff and Murray share a house while shooting so they can build a rapport. It’s really worked. They find such joy in small things.

by Anonymousreply 70May 13, 2023 1:22 AM

I loved Joel’s face when he was watching the movie with Sam and there was frontal male nudity.

“I thought it’d be a butt.”

The look on his face was great.

by Anonymousreply 71May 13, 2023 1:28 AM

I grew up in a small city in Kansas that had a very small lgbtq community. This show really captures the true feeling of family and kinship that can only be had when outsiders recognize fellow outsiders and band together.

by Anonymousreply 72May 13, 2023 2:00 AM

R64 agree with you there. I kind of like the show as a cozy hang, but the last episode I saw her singing coach burst into tears and exclaimed “chills!!” without a hint of irony. It’s a weird blind spot on the show — like, she is very very OK at singing, but it’s written like she’s Adele.

by Anonymousreply 73May 13, 2023 3:01 AM

I mean Kansas is still coasting on Wizard of Oz fumes and that was 1939

by Anonymousreply 74May 13, 2023 3:06 AM

Trish’s burgeoning wedding business is hilarious, I’m still laughing about “Denim & Diamonds”.

by Anonymousreply 75May 13, 2023 3:11 PM

Who doesn't want a monkey butt Tchotchke at their wedding? I would!

by Anonymousreply 76May 13, 2023 3:52 PM

Trish always (hilariously) seems about two minutes away from an aneurysm. I cannot wait to see her have a nuclear meltdown.

by Anonymousreply 77May 13, 2023 6:54 PM

Live Laugh Cunt pillows would make a mint.

by Anonymousreply 78May 15, 2023 3:14 AM

I love this show so fucking much.

by Anonymousreply 79May 15, 2023 3:16 AM

Me too. It’s a pleasant, easy show. A nice change from the other stuff I watch.

by Anonymousreply 80May 15, 2023 3:37 AM

Sweet burgeoning relationship for Joel. He's keeping it from Sam for now.

by Anonymousreply 81May 15, 2023 5:12 AM

Do we know the guy’s name?

by Anonymousreply 82May 15, 2023 5:55 AM

My Sunday nights are now comprised of watching Barry/Somebody Somewhere back-to-back. This is a nice show to help alleviate the mind fuck of Barry before going to bed!

by Anonymousreply 83May 15, 2023 5:57 AM

So far this season is even better than last season which was pretty great.

by Anonymousreply 84May 15, 2023 12:59 PM

I didn’t think I would like Tricia, she was so judgmental early on. But I like her a lot now. She should totally go all in on her cunt pillow line!

by Anonymousreply 85May 15, 2023 1:21 PM

Those pillows are going to be HUGE on Etsy.

by Anonymousreply 86May 15, 2023 2:52 PM

Such a good show.

by Anonymousreply 87May 15, 2023 7:14 PM

The season finale will probably be Fred Rococco's wedding, non?

by Anonymousreply 88May 15, 2023 8:06 PM

If you ever get to see Murray Hill live, DO IT! Wonderful performer. Loved every moment.

by Anonymousreply 89May 15, 2023 8:17 PM

How many episodes this season?

by Anonymousreply 90May 15, 2023 8:18 PM

Trish and Bridget were roommates for years so they have genuine sister chemistry

by Anonymousreply 91May 15, 2023 10:08 PM

Bridget has some massive tits.

by Anonymousreply 92May 15, 2023 10:38 PM

They really do

She really does

by Anonymousreply 93May 15, 2023 11:40 PM

That actress has an enormous gut. Walking down the path in the park, she waddles oddly.

by Anonymousreply 94May 16, 2023 9:29 AM

This seasonn seems to be 6 episodes, like last season, which is way too few.

by Anonymousreply 95May 16, 2023 2:46 PM

Aww, that is too few. Ten would’ve been good. This is a great show.

by Anonymousreply 96May 16, 2023 3:13 PM

I love Bridget. She really was a swimmer and probably fucked up her metabolism eating like one. I thought she was a lesbian tho. I loved the meet cute with the hot neighbor and then him getting busted for drug dealing subverting the Hallmark movie trope

by Anonymousreply 97May 16, 2023 3:25 PM

I love Bridget. She really was a swimmer and probably fucked up her metabolism eating like one. I thought she was a lesbian tho. I loved the meet cute with the hot neighbor and then him getting busted for drug dealing subverting the Hallmark movie trope

by Anonymousreply 98May 16, 2023 3:46 PM

r96 - According to HBO, season 2 of SS consists of 7 episodes - not nearly enough. But, at least it's 7 more episodes than we had before season 2 dropped!

by Anonymousreply 99May 16, 2023 4:08 PM

R98 he was cute! I looked him up on IMDb after his first episode because I did think he was going to be the new love interest and he was adorable, but he was only listed for two episodes, so I knew he wouldn’t be. They got me expecting that hallmark deal, lol.

Maybe next season he’ll be out of jail and come back.

by Anonymousreply 100May 16, 2023 4:21 PM

Has it been renewed?

by Anonymousreply 101May 16, 2023 4:37 PM

I didn’t know that, r91! I love it. I have to admit that the scenes between them are my favorite, even more than the scenes of Sam/Joel.

by Anonymousreply 102May 16, 2023 6:08 PM

In an interview Jeff Hiller said when Bridget encouraged him to audition she warned him that it wouldn’t pay much, which is a shame.

But hopefully the small budget and nice buzz will earn a renewal.

by Anonymousreply 103May 16, 2023 6:50 PM

Love this show, too. Just discovered it and am a few eps in to S1.

Not surprised the Duplass brothers are producers.

by Anonymousreply 104May 16, 2023 6:51 PM

It doesn't seem like a very expensive show to make. None of the actors command big star salaries and it's not like it's filled with special effects and CGI. I really wish they'd make more shows and movies like this. The financial stakes are much lower and the stories are more interesting.

by Anonymousreply 105May 16, 2023 9:58 PM

[quote]The financial stakes are much lower and the stories are more interesting.

Unfortunately, the ratings are also much lower.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 106May 16, 2023 10:03 PM

That’s a shame. It needs better marketing. This show is a winner!

by Anonymousreply 107May 16, 2023 10:22 PM

These days they look at viewership over time. Some shows get watched right away and others are a slower burn, relying on cascading word of mouth.

by Anonymousreply 108May 16, 2023 10:31 PM

Everyone I’ve recommended the show to (three people) loves it. But then I knew they would.

Love the largely bland, functional, comfortable, non-fashion costumes on the show. It’s how normal people dress. The fact that Joel’s new friend tucks his tie into his pants made me smile.

by Anonymousreply 109May 17, 2023 1:59 AM

It was nice to get a good look at what Joel saw in St. Louis Sushi guy this week.

by Anonymousreply 110May 17, 2023 2:35 AM

He’s very nice, maybe a bit too square for Joel. I think Joel made a coming joke that went right over sushi guy’s head or he just didn’t respond to it. I can’t see him drinking and hanging and swearing with Sam, Fred, and co. but we’ll see. Or Joel can be goody goody church boy with him and fun guy with Sam.

by Anonymousreply 111May 17, 2023 3:34 AM

Agreed about the realistic costumes.

I worked on a soap back on the olden days and, while working on the budget, was stunned to learn that they sweaters worn by a farm woman cost $300 or so.

I was like, hmm, maybe you could, I don’t know, spend what she might have to spend?

by Anonymousreply 112May 17, 2023 5:42 PM

R111, but he’s PACKIN’, which trumps everything.

by Anonymousreply 113May 17, 2023 8:23 PM

I think re: Sam's voice

She's not supposed to be Adele or someone really super amazingly talented - that would have gotten her out of Kansas.

But she was memorable enough for Joel and a few others. She's karaoke good, and obviously can make people emotional. But no, maybe that's not a voice to listen to for an hour.....

by Anonymousreply 114May 17, 2023 8:27 PM

Sam’s teacher is supposed to be pretty small time.

Sam has a lovely quality to her voice, so I buy that she’d find it special. Hell, we already heard some of her others students and they were pretty bad!

by Anonymousreply 115May 17, 2023 8:35 PM

Bridgets caberet act is a scream. I like her voice

by Anonymousreply 116May 17, 2023 8:37 PM

She is hilarious R116. I saw her close for Amy Schumer who said “I could never follow this woman.”

by Anonymousreply 117May 17, 2023 9:11 PM

Bridget sat on my face at Joe's Pub.

Claire Danes smiled at me afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 118May 17, 2023 9:23 PM

How did she taste r118?

by Anonymousreply 119May 18, 2023 4:18 AM

At Joe's

by Anonymousreply 120May 18, 2023 5:42 AM

Shame that ratings are lower. Marketing should be more prolific, but HBO Max is putting all their money into the rebranding as MAX. "What a game changer!" said nobody, nowhere. Keep supporting this show! In times like this, we need it and more like it.

by Anonymousreply 121May 18, 2023 3:33 PM

I only found out about this show because HBO was plugging it constantly between other stuff. At first I was like it looks weird and annoying but finally I was like what the heck And I have loooved it ever since. This was like a month ago. It's great it's not just constant tomfoolery but there is genuine pathos. Well done!

by Anonymousreply 122May 18, 2023 3:42 PM

I've been recording season 2 and just watched the first episode. It was great - the positive energy between Sam and Joel is what a friendship is all about. I will delay watching further until episode 5 drops on 5/22. This way I can watch a few back-to-back then have some left to watch later.

BTW, I looked ahead on my upcoming recordings and Episode 6 & 7 will drop on 5/29 so the series will wrap with a nice binge. Too bad this series is not better known since it's what we need now - real, regular people getting along in spite of minor conflicts that affect us all.

by Anonymousreply 123May 18, 2023 3:48 PM

[quote]Shame that ratings are lower.

I just looked this info up in Wikipedia and while the first episode of season 1 had about 200,000 viewers, the finale had 159,000 and still managed to get renewed for season 2.

This last episode of season 2 had 153,000 viewers - basically the same as last season's finale.

by Anonymousreply 124May 18, 2023 4:57 PM

How do they get these ratings anyhow? I am sure they are not.including my viewership of things. And ppl pvr now so they must be missed as well?

by Anonymousreply 125May 18, 2023 5:16 PM

I'm sure Somebody is very inexpensive for HBO to produce compared to Succession and Perry Mason, it gives viewers who like smaller shows and aren't interested in Succession or PM something to watch, and it neatly fills a half-hour slot. Why not renew it? That said, if you like it tell everyone you know!

by Anonymousreply 126May 18, 2023 7:05 PM

HBO must surely go by different rating standards to qualify for renewal.

They're a subscriber pay service, so that alone limits a lot of people from watching the show.

With that in mind, maybe 150,000 viewership is decent for HBO.

by Anonymousreply 127May 18, 2023 8:08 PM

Just went online to see what the ratings were for Succession this season. The lowest figure quoted, for context, was 540K.

by Anonymousreply 128May 18, 2023 8:13 PM

This was a good episode, but damn, Bridget, wtf? I knew a girl who acted like that in middle school. Last I heard, she was pulling the same shit

by Anonymousreply 129May 22, 2023 7:03 AM

Yeah, Joel didn’t deserve the silent treatment. Glad to see they’re cool next episode.

I wonder what the fallout from Tricia tagging Charity in the cunt pillow will be. Hopefully nothing more than everyone learning charity cheated.

Cute neighbor drug dealer is back. Sweet!

by Anonymousreply 130May 22, 2023 7:42 AM

What a great episode. Sad to say I'm in my 60s and still give the silent treatment when I'm hurt so I can definitely relate.

by Anonymousreply 131May 23, 2023 3:19 PM

I thought for sure Tricia was going to somehow record a dancing video with her smart fridge and accidentally send it out. I was getting ready to be embarrassed for her!

by Anonymousreply 132May 23, 2023 3:50 PM

Excellent finale. I really hope it's renewed.

by Anonymousreply 133May 29, 2023 1:26 PM

When The Sopranos became a huge hit, I immediately noticed that the cast was very...ordinary looking.

Then Six Feet Under. The Wire.

It was such a stark contrast with all the pretty-people casting on network TV shows. Even if the parents on sitcoms were often average looking (or usually an average father and pretty mother), the kids and others were usually pretty.

I began to think a big part of HBO's quality was casting strong actors with faces that could be anyone's next-door neighbors.

Then True Blood came out, and I was excited because it was an Alan Ball show and I loved Six Feet Under and American Beauty. But nope. The show cast a bunch of hot people and the writing was shitty. I began to think that pretty actors may be compensation for poor writing.

Game of Thrones had some attractive cast members but the show had 150 characters and 85% weren't pretty or "hot" at all. And the show was 85% great. In the end, the pretty characters survived and the show was trash.

HBO should stick with casting like this series has done.

Why would you use packing peanuts with pillows?

by Anonymousreply 135May 29, 2023 2:08 PM

The tribute to dad at the end was very sweet because you know they were actually toasting and acknowledging the actor who played him.

by Anonymousreply 136May 29, 2023 3:53 PM

I want to be in that friend group

by Anonymousreply 137May 29, 2023 3:59 PM

When will they announce a 3rd season?

by Anonymousreply 138May 29, 2023 8:07 PM

I have only watched the first 4 episodes of season 2 - 'saving' the last three for tonight. I did re-watch season 1 over the weekend. It was better the 2nd time around in every way. As others have mentioned, I LOVE this show and all the actors/characters - not a bad one in the bunch. Murray Hill is a gem and Jeff Hiller is so sweet and positive - we need more people like them!

This show would never make it on regular cable - not enough drama and being kind to one another seems a foreign concept in most of the tripe that mainstream viewers gravitate towards. I hope HBO - Max will move forward with another season - with MORE episodes!

by Anonymousreply 139May 29, 2023 8:33 PM

Everything R139 said!

by Anonymousreply 140May 29, 2023 9:18 PM

The characters in this show are largely decent and content. They have self awareness and humility. They are adults. How refreshing!

by Anonymousreply 141May 29, 2023 9:39 PM

R134 I don’t want to watch ugly people

by Anonymousreply 142May 29, 2023 9:44 PM

I, too, would open my heart to Joel and my legs to the neighbor.

He’s cute.

by Anonymousreply 143May 29, 2023 10:26 PM

I laughed when she replied "because I'm going to fuck my neighbor".

by Anonymousreply 144May 29, 2023 10:48 PM

And then Joel’s face-perfect!

by Anonymousreply 145May 29, 2023 10:53 PM

I love that there is a gentle, heartfelt show for people who appreciate the word, "Cunt"

by Anonymousreply 146May 30, 2023 2:44 PM

Live Laugh Cunt!

by Anonymousreply 147May 30, 2023 2:55 PM

This is such a special show. Nothing else like it.

I also appreciate that they recognize the greatness of Laura Branigan!

by Anonymousreply 148May 30, 2023 3:16 PM

LOVED the "Gloria" songfest at the wedding. Joyful.

by Anonymousreply 149May 30, 2023 4:40 PM

I want this more than anything but given the current media environment I would say a 3rd season is a long shot.

by Anonymousreply 150May 30, 2023 7:06 PM

The current media environment could benefit from this show

by Anonymousreply 151May 30, 2023 7:08 PM

As much as I want a third season this seasons finale left the audience feeling happy in case we never see these people again. Joel found a bf. A beautiful wedding. A possible successful business for Trish who is also open to finding love again. And Sam found joy in singing again along with the possibility of sex with her hot neighbor.

by Anonymousreply 152May 30, 2023 7:38 PM

I’m sad that it might not come back, I just assumed it would. Darn. This is such a cute and fun show.

by Anonymousreply 153May 30, 2023 7:49 PM

“Somebody Somewhere” had its season finale on the same night that two far splashier HBO series, “Succession” and “Barry,” had their highly anticipated farewells. The hard-won tenderness and joy conjured by Everett and Hiller deserve to be seen as more than counter-programming: their characters’ shared construction of a place that they can call a true home is no less compelling than the infinite darkness and cycles of abuse that propel those other dramas. After winter has come and gone, allow their friendship to warm you like the first sunny day of spring—or hit you lovingly like a “Live Laugh Cunt” pillow thrown at TV’s best wine-soaked slumber party.

Bridget announced on Instagram that the show has been renewed!!!!! Woo hoo!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 155June 1, 2023 7:09 PM

Yay. I'm partway through season 1 and really need to dig back in. glad it's coming back

by Anonymousreply 156June 1, 2023 7:33 PM

It’s kind of sad how far down HBO has gone. 2001 we had 6 feet under and sopranos and sex and the city and OZ. Now they just create shows to appeal to a certain demographic.

by Anonymousreply 157June 1, 2023 7:37 PM

R155, thanks so much for the amazing news! I've recommended it to so many people and all of the best ones love it too. Only the one husband of one guy (who is a total piece of shit) said it was stupid.

by Anonymousreply 158June 1, 2023 7:47 PM

Cuntastic!! R155

by Anonymousreply 159June 1, 2023 8:08 PM

Hoping they get some more awards recognition. so well deserved.

by Anonymousreply 160June 1, 2023 8:17 PM

[quote]Now they just create shows to appeal to a certain demographic.

Wrong, it's just that there are just so many more shows around than back then that each demographic can have its own show. Obviously there are still shows that bring people across different demographics together, although those are far and few in between. The age of the water cooler shows is over because there are just too many quality shows around and we only have so much time to spare.

by Anonymousreply 161June 1, 2023 8:21 PM

HBO/Max has a tradition of prestige shows. With Succession and Barry both having ended, they need shows like this one… and it’s cheap.

by Anonymousreply 162June 1, 2023 8:22 PM

Renewed for Season 3!!!!!!

It’s renewed. For real.

When it ends, this show needs a Fred Rococo spin-off.

by Anonymousreply 166June 2, 2023 2:49 AM

How about 10 episodes for Season 3?

by Anonymousreply 167June 3, 2023 3:44 PM

Listened to a New York mag TV critic discussing what Succession fans can watch now to fill the void.

She said, “Somebody Somewhere.”

It would be amazing if Bridget got an Emmy nom.

by Anonymousreply 168June 3, 2023 4:55 PM

SS is a cute show, but I hardly think it’s a void filler for a first class prestige drama like Succession.

by Anonymousreply 169June 3, 2023 5:37 PM

Succession lost me after the 3rd helicopter flight. It sucked

by Anonymousreply 170June 4, 2023 1:25 AM

Somebody Somewhere is miles better than Succession.

by Anonymousreply 171June 4, 2023 4:36 PM

I'm rewatching the first season and it's even better the second time around. Glad it will be back

by Anonymousreply 172June 9, 2023 8:41 PM

One of the things I love about the show is they keep short. Short episodes, short seasons.

I’d like a longer season, but then I look at shows like Severance and Beef (among others) there it was a strong product that stagnated at times.

by Anonymousreply 173June 9, 2023 9:35 PM

Isn’t this over with??

by Anonymousreply 174June 9, 2023 10:36 PM

For the season. More people are noticing every day tho

by Anonymousreply 175June 9, 2023 10:54 PM

Hi all~ This show you love about fat people who make me depressed from Iowa or some shit was renewed for a 3rd season.

by Anonymousreply 176June 14, 2023 2:43 PM

This thread, which you think you're too cool to read or some shit mentions that fact about 5 times

by Anonymousreply 177June 14, 2023 2:57 PM

Are you the dull troll who is also fixated on Freevee Jury Duty???

Get a life!

by Anonymousreply 178June 14, 2023 3:25 PM

I’ve posted in this thread and watch the show but R176 is correct, it’s a weird show, and the characters are weird, and not just for their looks. I know it’s supposed to be quirky, but it’s also just all around odd. I’m not sure it can hold me indefinitely but it’s a fun filler show for me when I want some down time. I watch very little television, so anything I give TV watching time to can’t be so bad. I’m guessing that it resonates with a lot of single middle-aged women. i’ll admit that after watching Bridget Everett’s cabaret act, I didn’t necessarily like her any more or less.

I’m glad it’s coming back if for nothing else, to keep people employed, and at least show people what it’s like, being gay, lesbian, or a social outsider in a small town or rural state. Oddly enough, I think it’s Sam’s sister who’s become the more interesting if not more likable character

by Anonymousreply 179June 14, 2023 3:29 PM

Sorry all- This show is SO depressing because its really, really true.

Its just nails the mediocrity/mundane and disappointment/solitude of life-

And the cast is just so unnattractive that I can never make it through more than 15 minutes..

And Bridget is an insanely talented woman, but a dramatic actress, she is not.

And I just want to reach through the screen and give that red headed friend of hers a buzz cut. His hair is satan.

by Anonymousreply 180June 14, 2023 5:38 PM

Lots of stupid comments showing up. Hopefully the same idiot.

Enjoy your NCIS.

by Anonymousreply 181June 14, 2023 7:13 PM

R181, are you new here? Or, are you just too delicate to be on the Internet? Either way, grow up and toughen up or you're gonna go down in flames.

by Anonymousreply 182June 14, 2023 8:09 PM

It's refreshing R180. Real looking people in a real looking Midwestern town doing things that real people might do. Not Friends living in apartments and wearing designer clothes they could never afford.

by Anonymousreply 183June 14, 2023 8:13 PM

Yeah, I’d SO MUCH rather see only people who haven’t eaten in months and whose faces are frozen and filled to the point of looking like extra-terrestrials… or Bezos fiancés.

Bridget, Jeff and Murray (and the sister) are off the charts. There is joy and pathos and you wish you could hang with these folks.

by Anonymousreply 184June 14, 2023 11:16 PM

To the haters: If you don't like the show (and that's fine), then don't watch it! It's that simple. Personally, I hope there are several more seasons.

by Anonymousreply 185June 15, 2023 7:56 PM

What R185 said!

by Anonymousreply 186June 15, 2023 7:59 PM

Alan Sepinwall names Somebody Somewhere one of the best TV shows of 2023 (so far):

"In an era where the business seems reluctant to greenlight anything that’s not part of a big, loud franchise, or otherwise based on preexisting IP, it’s remarkable that we’ve already gotten two seasons — with a third officially ordered — of Bridget Everett‘s lovely little original of a dramedy, starring her as Sam, a woman struggling to figure out her life as she sinks deeper into middle age. The second season was just as strong as the first, giving supporting players like Jeff Hiller (amazing!) and Mary Catherine Garrison even more to do, while still keeping strong track of Sam’s journey. A miracle that this show is still with us for at least a little while longer."

by Anonymousreply 187June 15, 2023 8:10 PM

Shipping a Cunt pillow to r176, with lots of packing peanuts!

by Anonymousreply 188June 15, 2023 8:20 PM

I like it, too. It sort of reminds me of “Joe Pera Talks With You.”

by Anonymousreply 189June 15, 2023 8:36 PM

Finally finished season two. This is so good, I can hardly stand it.

The friendship between Sam and Joel is so fucking real. I don't even understand how they pull it off. Everything works. Every time.

by Anonymousreply 190June 16, 2023 2:01 AM

I like the show, but only love it in spots. However, that last episode was phenomenal.

by Anonymousreply 191June 16, 2023 11:05 AM

Thanks, R120! That was much, much better than the show.

I mean, I watched the show, but it was awfully saccharine for an old cynic like me. But her club act was just what the doctor ordered!

by Anonymousreply 192July 7, 2023 6:12 PM

I love the show but I do roll my eyes a bit when Bridget sings. I don't think she's all that great but everyone seems to think she is the next Streisand.

by Anonymousreply 193July 12, 2023 11:53 AM

Just finished Season 2. I’m glad that they took a different direction with the sister who started out as a Karen fundy. Happy to hear that Season 3 is happening.
