I LOVED Alicia Silverstone back in the day w/ the Aerosmith videos and of course, Clueless. I wanted to really love her personally, but there is something about Alicia post-Clueless that I find really unlikable. I know she and Reese were battling it out for a while as a certain type of 90's teen queen, but Reese somehow played the long game and is obviously more smarter strategically, if not a better actress. Alicia with her crazy veganism and now her odd parenting with her adolescent son is a turn off.

I just read the article at R1. This encapsulates why Alicia had a quick rise and fall. You can't take it for granted or be "above Hollywood". I disliked how hard she tried to something different than her Cher persona. A smart actor would have leveraged that. She's not very versatile. It seems like these days she plays "the other woman" type roles a lot or second wife.

Witherspoon was a much better actress and had better taste in material. Silverstone could have scored with something like Legally Blonde, but she would have probably turned it down.

I had heard that Witherspoon had desperately wanted the Clueless role and you can see a lot of Cher in Elle Woods. Still, I agree w/ everything you said, R6. Alicia does do crazy and unhinged well. Her performance in 'The Crush' was actually pretty good. Brittany Murphy (RIP) was also a much better actress than Alicia. I wonder Kirsten Dunst could have pulled off Cher.

It seems like each decade had their cult classic teen girl film. When I was growing up, it was Heathers in the 80s. In the 90s it was Clueless. In the aughts it was Mean Girls. There doesn't seem to have been one for a while now, unless I am missing something. Everything just seems to be getting remade.
