I haven't heard it in decades, but it was played to death in the late 70's. Can't remember anything about the actual words, except something sounding like " daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh..."it was a long melancholic ballad, sounding vaguely native american...That's all I've got

This reminds me of the time I was desperately trying to figure out the title of the song that I would later discover is Francis Lai's theme from "A Man And A Woman". It went on for several years, because NO ONE I sang it to had any idea what I was talking about, and I could only remember that it was used very briefly in one episode of "Will & Grace".
Keep us posted OP. Now I'm invested.

R26, does that sound like a "long, melancholic ballad?"
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 10, 2023 10:16 PM |
Google the Dan Fogelberg catalog, OP.
Maybe Albert Hammond?
Now I’m intrigued by this thread and must get an answer, too!

by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 11, 2023 12:59 AM |
OP, you mention a Native American vibe. Could your song be Jim Pepper’s WITCHITI TO from the 1970’s?

Was Witchit to played all over the radio?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 11, 2023 1:11 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 11, 2023 1:11 AM |
Are the lyrics in English, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 11, 2023 1:24 AM |
I think OP trolls us. We had a similar thread a month or so ago where OP gave us the tiniest little thread of info about a song.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 11, 2023 1:27 AM |
It would be funny if the song OP was looking for turned out to be Danny Boy!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 11, 2023 1:28 AM |
Long and melancholy ballad makes me think The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot.
Or Sentimental Lady by Fleetwood Mac.
Same Auld Lang Syne by Dan Fogelberg, maybe?
I’m just ignoring the Danny Boons because those aren’t the real lyrics, is that correct?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 11, 2023 1:34 AM |
Sorry, didn’t see that R24 was way ahead of me with Sentimental Lady. But also by Fleetwood Mac, Bare Trees?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 11, 2023 1:37 AM |
At some point there was a similar post on here and the answer turned out to be "Year of the Cat" so I'm just going to post it again.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 11, 2023 1:37 AM |
OP, what are the main instruments in the arrangement?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 11, 2023 1:40 AM |
All I can hear now is The Circle Game by Joni Mitchell, though Buffy Saint-Marie sang it too. The song was not all over the radio, though. Also, man, woman, group?
Check out the list of Number Ones from the 70s -- it might trip your memory.

Terry Jacks - Seasons In The Sun
Has a bit of a native american vibe?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | April 11, 2023 2:33 AM |
I just re-read your description and I posted Daddy Cool upthread. It's German, not Native American. And it doesn't have the syllables you mention, but I could see how Daddy Cool could sound like Danny Boon.
In related Datalounge music sleuthing, I was so happy when someone in the old Disco thread was able to identify a song that I'd been looking for years. The only part of the song I'd ever heard was the intro, and it had no lyrics so I couldn't search for it that way. It was the song used on The Facts of Life on the episode where Tootie's in a dance contest with a white boy. I linked the video of that scene and had my answer pretty quickly. Still grateful to that DLer and am listening to the song now and sending the poster my gratitude.
Hope you find your song too, OP!

by Anonymous | reply 71 | April 11, 2023 3:16 AM |
My deepest apologies, R66. I didn't read the description fully before posting. I'm a caregiver for my mom, and as I was reading it, I heard a clatter in the kitchen, and I ran out there thinking she had fallen. When I came back, I posted the song that came to mind that sounded like Danny Boon. I then went back to read the original post for further clues and realized the song didn't fit all the criteria. I beg your forgiveness., as your approval and regard are of utmost importance to me. I promise I will never let it happen again.
Also, please die in the fieriest and greasiest of fires at your earliest convenience.

by Anonymous | reply 76 | April 11, 2023 3:35 AM |
Lyrics aside Horse with No Name and Wildfire fit the ballad/vibe.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | April 11, 2023 3:38 AM |
I'd agree R74 but that was 1971. OP said late 70s.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 11, 2023 3:39 AM |
The crazy thing about the 70s songs that I grew up with is that there were SO MANY "one hit wonders." Songs that I immediately recognize today and can sing along with and yet: who?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | April 11, 2023 3:40 AM |
[quote] " daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh..."

by Anonymous | reply 80 | April 11, 2023 3:44 AM |
Thank you, R43. That actually makes perfect sense.
Dany Boon was scammed by a fake Irish lord, so the song OP is looking for is obviously the original version of Danny Boy. It's the one [italic]they[/italic] have erased from our collective consciousness. OMG, I am literally shaking!!
I'll be back later with Poo Shoes and Miss Mandela FX for confirmation, but see if this jogs your memory:
Oh, Dany Boon, tuh pipes, tuh pipes are tuhtuh
From tuh tuh tuh, and down tuh tuhtuhtuh
by Anonymous | reply 81 | April 11, 2023 3:47 AM |
The Clues:
1. long melancholic ballad,
2. Sung by a guy
3. sounds vaguely native american.
4. Played to death in the late 1970s.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | April 11, 2023 5:55 AM |
I'm stumped by vaguely native american. Kindly elaborate.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | April 11, 2023 6:17 AM |
Asking OP to kindly elaborate, R83, is literal violence!
by Anonymous | reply 84 | April 11, 2023 6:27 AM |
A song could be played to death on "easy listening" stations in the late 70s, even if it came out in the early 70s.
I know this is true, because I know songs from early 70's The Carpenters that I only heard when my Mom drove us to kindergarten and elementary school in the late 70s.
And the songs probably weren't played to death. But to kids trapped in a car without control of the radio, it felt like "to death".

The OP is either a cloc or a troll. Probably both.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | April 11, 2023 7:58 PM |

"Another Day" (Paul McCartney) shows up in several "sad ballads of the '70s" lists and the chorus contains "Du du du du du du, it's just another day Du du du du du du, it's just another day."
Maybe?
by Anonymous | reply 191 | April 13, 2023 11:09 PM |
Once and for all, NOWHERE in "Jackie Blue' does anyone croon "daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh." No song ever recorded had anybody singing "daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh", dammit!

"Tin Man" - America
More folk-rock and sentimental than American Indian and melancholy, but the "downy, down, down... " chorus has the ring of "Danny boon... tuh tuh" to it that OP describes. You couldn't swing a dead cat in the 70s and not hit this song.

Did you hear this song on American radio or in some other country?
Did you hear the once once or multiple times?
What types of radio stations did you listen to during the time frame you heard the song? AM? FM? Pop? Rock? Easy Listening?
Is anyone else in your family alive who you can ask about the song, see if they remember it?
by Anonymous | reply 255 | April 15, 2023 11:42 AM |
We'll politely ignore the fact that r252 is NOT the OP, per ignoredar.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | April 15, 2023 11:48 AM |
R252 is not me, he's someone who wants to close the thread. It's not the ballad of Daniel Boone, I checked that years ago. RECAP I was a kid , possibly 9/10yo = late 70s early 80s, but it did play as a nostalgia piece well into the early/mid 90's on some AM/FM/EASY LISTENING stations, and was certainly a global hit = also in Europe, at least UK/FRANCE. I don't know what to say. If you were alive between 65 and 85, you've heard that song. even if you say at loud, plaintively Daaaaaaaaaaa daaaaneebooo danee danee boooo, without any kind of melody, it should ring a bell. Sorry for the haters. I wanna know
by Anonymous | reply 257 | April 15, 2023 12:43 PM |
This sure is melancholy, would make one struggle to hear what language it’s in, could sound like NA flute & says something like Danneeee up front and later.

R236 there is no way a Indian sounding, non-rhythmic, nocturnal lament was played on the radio in the late 70's early '80's with any kind of frequency such that people born from 1965 to 1985 would remember it.
by Anonymous | reply 261 | April 15, 2023 2:00 PM |

On the one hand, I don't blame OP for being frustrated. Most of the guesses here are stupid as fuck. Female singers, wrong decade and upbeat songs. it's clear few of you know how to read.
On the other hand, I'd like to fill a PBS donor tote bag with oranges and beat the living shit out of OP for creating such an annoying thread and being willfully obtuse about it.
It is a conundrum, as they say.

I still think it's could well be Biko by Peter Gabriel, as stated in R263. Tribal sound. Played everywhere. Released in 1980. Male voice. International hit. Indeterminate language. Plaintive for sure. Lots of lyrics that could certainly be heard as the syllables provided. I just want an official "no" from OP so that I can move on with my life.

With all due respect, r296, if someone was singing the words daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh it would have been solved by now. The melody to Midnight Blue could fit Op’s piss poor description. Also their assertion that it was a hit in France…Midnight Blue was it was number 1 for 31 weeks. It was covered by a French group too.

No, it couldn't. It utilized the melody of the second movement of "Sonata Pathétique" by Beethoven! Beethoven NEVER wrote anything that even remotely sounds like "daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh.tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh", for fuck's sake.

by Anonymous | reply 323 | April 19, 2023 8:41 AM |
Why is it so impossible for OP to hum the tune into a voice app and post it? The only possible reason is because he’s full of shit and sent everyone on a pointless quest for his own amusement.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | April 19, 2023 10:04 AM |
R324 That's exactly why - big boring troll
by Anonymous | reply 325 | April 19, 2023 11:25 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 365 | May 9, 2023 9:30 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 372 | May 9, 2023 10:32 PM |
The “Aidal O’Boy” chorus sounds a bit like Danny Boy.
by Anonymous | reply 373 | May 9, 2023 10:32 PM |
no no you're on the wrong track. It has a late 70's feel
by Anonymous | reply 374 | May 9, 2023 10:34 PM |
Well now I know you are making this up because you said in the past it had a Native American vibe. That doesn’t mesh with the late 70s.
by Anonymous | reply 375 | May 9, 2023 10:46 PM |
R375 it DOES
by Anonymous | reply 376 | May 9, 2023 10:48 PM |
No; late 70s is pretty much disco. Native and folk sounds were not popular. Try again, troll.
by Anonymous | reply 377 | May 9, 2023 10:49 PM |
The Carpenters maybe?
Your onomatopoeia is the beat to the song or what you recalled about the lyrics? I'm confused.
When I think of long and melancholy ballads from the 1970's I truly think of the Carpenters first. But, what musical genre are you referring to, OP? That would help a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 378 | May 9, 2023 10:50 PM |
I am NOT a TROLL. I am NOT making this up. The song EXISTS. You are driving me CRAZY

by Anonymous | reply 408 | May 13, 2023 1:06 PM |
R408 First, it's anyway not anyways.
You don't have to post it on social media, doofus. Vocaroo can be anonymous. Are you able to read English - the instructions are on all of those sites.

Thanks OP!

Op, you’re gonna get your ass handed to you if it’s really Strange Magic.
by Anonymous | reply 415 | May 13, 2023 7:00 PM |
I'm sorry, OP, exactly where are the "Native American" influences in Strange Magic?
by Anonymous | reply 416 | May 13, 2023 7:04 PM |
OP, where were you living when you heard the song frequently in the radio? Maybe it’s a country song and you confused that with Native American. I think country songs were more likely to get heavy play years after they came out than pop songs.
by Anonymous | reply 417 | May 13, 2023 7:28 PM |
There are so many fake OPs, don't believe them, it's not strange magic. I am now a little confused, about the timeline. If it was an early 80's song I was living in Europe with my parents, So I'm not sure anymore. Thank you for your warm appreciation, R412

by Anonymous | reply 427 | May 14, 2023 12:54 AM |
OP's mom burned his penis on the stove when he tried to sing any song from the 70s. That's why he can only say tuh tuh tuh tuh tuh, flu, flu, flu.
by Anonymous | reply 428 | May 14, 2023 12:56 AM |
After 429 (well, 430) posts and counting, I'm surprised that this thread (not to mention OP) is still alive, especially since the elusive (perchance nonexistent) DanniBooooo is still tuh-tuh-taunting from under under the boardwalk, wheezing with laughter. It all began with the clue that the song was "played to death" in the '70s. May it RIP.

This song tells a story about Native Americans. Not from the 70s, and no Danny Boon, but it does sort have a "tun tun tun tun" in the background.
by Anonymous | reply 463 | May 23, 2023 2:17 AM |
No, it's not a country song, it's more new-agey
by Anonymous | reply 465 | May 23, 2023 9:42 AM |
OMG R462 Finally. Thank you
by Anonymous | reply 466 | May 23, 2023 1:29 PM |

Nick Drake - Pink Moon
(aka Danny Boon dadadadada)
by Anonymous | reply 469 | May 23, 2023 6:20 PM |
I can't believe I'm still earnestly participating in this thread, but Pink Moon absolutely fits
by Anonymous | reply 470 | May 23, 2023 6:22 PM |
no it's not Pink Moon I'm sorry, the words are really Daaa daaanneeboooon, daneedaneeboooon
by Anonymous | reply 471 | May 23, 2023 6:25 PM |
Could it be aboriginal? Daaa daaanneeboooon, daneedaneeboooon tuh tuh etc is the sound a didgeridoo makes.
by Anonymous | reply 472 | May 23, 2023 7:27 PM |
Could it be OP is so full of shit, he may have been reincarnated as a port-a-potty at a construction site?
by Anonymous | reply 473 | May 23, 2023 7:30 PM |
I never thought it would be like this. The song exists. It's a well known song. I don't know what to say. It's so out of control now, so many posters think I'm making it up. I'm not
by Anonymous | reply 474 | May 23, 2023 7:35 PM |
OP, it's over. We just want to torture you now. '
And we will.
by Anonymous | reply 475 | May 23, 2023 8:03 PM |
So it’s a plaintive ballad sung by a man which has a new-agey Native American vibe and it was really popular in the late 70s.
Not RnB Not rock
Is this correct?
by Anonymous | reply 476 | May 23, 2023 8:10 PM |
yes R476
by Anonymous | reply 477 | May 23, 2023 8:11 PM |
And was a hit in the UK/France.
by Anonymous | reply 478 | May 23, 2023 8:16 PM |
again, correct, did you find it ?
by Anonymous | reply 479 | May 23, 2023 8:18 PM |
The song can’t possibly be that well known if all of these people have not been able to find it after several weeks. Have you considered that maybe you’re not remembering the song correctly (it’s easy to misinterpret lyrics) or it’s way more obscure than you think it is? And where is the recording you promised?
by Anonymous | reply 480 | May 23, 2023 9:30 PM |
R480 He “can’t figure out how to make a recording” - still.

by Anonymous | reply 483 | May 24, 2023 11:47 AM |
I think it is probably more da da neee e e e ew booo danewwwwww danewwwwww bo....da da newboo da new da new” rather than daaaaaaaaaaaa danewbooo danew danew booooo....daaaaaaaaaaaaa danewboo danew danew.
by Anonymous | reply 484 | May 25, 2023 1:30 AM |
