Was Elvis really that attractive?

Not saying he was hideous...but I feel like the nose and eye spacing was off

He was so attractive that MEN thought he was attractive and wanted to look like him. He had an exotic melongeon look.

by Anonymousreply 2April 10, 2023 1:57 AM

A bit when young- it was mostly his attitude and performance. I always thought he was funny looking- and as he got older and deeper into addiction he became pretty awful looking. He was mesmerizing as a young performer. But in the last years of his life he was a mess on stage when he should have been at his artist and physical peak- not unlike Garland.

by Anonymousreply 3April 10, 2023 1:59 AM

He was originally a blond. I think the died black hair really made his blue eyes pop. Plus the black eyeliner.

by Anonymousreply 4April 10, 2023 2:10 AM

A woman I worked with said that she thought Elvis Presley was the most handsome man she had ever seen in her life. While I don't quite agree with that, he is stunning in this photo!

by Anonymousreply 13April 10, 2023 2:57 AM

Who gives a fuck about Dionne Warwick? Or Elvis.

Attractive is always subjective, but SEX is an energy. Elvis was lush with hair and lips and nice skin and SEXUAL energy.

He died before I was born. I find him cheesy as fuck, but not when you just look at him. Even when he acted sexy - he was SEXY.

Brad Pitt is SEXY. Johnny Depp is NOT. Johnny was better looking.

Neither one of them is my type. Why do so many gay men have such set in stone prescribed tastes? Ricky Nelson looks like Elvis gone wrong. Was he sexy? Never heard of him.

SEX is an energy. SEXY is a look. Attractive is a mediocre word. Elvis didn't have a hard time convincing tens of millions of people that he was attractive. He was SEXY as fuck.

Most overtly sexual men or women are not sexy to me. Elvis is the exception. Boy couldn't help it.

I didn't think he was all that handsome until his '68 comeback special when he looked like a bronze god, with newly acquired chiseled facial features.

by Anonymousreply 23April 10, 2023 3:24 AM

Nobody has ever heard of Rick Nelson. Elvis is a legend, 50 years after his death. He had a damn fine voice, almost operatic.

Elvis replaced the age of the Baritone Male singer - which is both good and bad.

Look at that tiktok @ R15. From his pouty fleshy face with a full mouth and flaring nostrils into that million dollar smile that highlights the cut of his cheekbones and jawline - bitch was dangerously sexy. He's gorgeous. Unusual looking for sure. Elvis was not androgynous, but mindfuck sexy the way the young Annie Lennox was. He's also got what Marilyn had - flesh impact! He looks like you can touch him and his skin is ALIVE. He probably never became a great fuck - because good girls weren't unihibited enough back then.

by Anonymousreply 24April 10, 2023 3:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 30April 10, 2023 3:57 AM

There’s literally not one intelligent person on earth who think Elvis is unattractive, at least when he was healthy.

Now, he may not appeal to every single individual taste, but to suggest he was not an attractive human being is just objectively and categorically wrong.

An individual with even the smallest amount of emotional maturity would say “yeah, Elvis isn’t my cup of tea, but anyone could see he was a good looking dude.” Even when he was sick, the handsome features still remained.

At the end of the day, the ones who don’t think Elvis was good looking or attractive are closed minded and ignorant of basic human biology or psychology.

by Anonymousreply 31April 10, 2023 5:44 AM

r24, perhaps you need to ask your parents/grandparents who Ricky Nelson was. I assure you, LOTS of people "heard of him." He was even on a famous TV show.

[quote] There’s literally not one intelligent person on earth who think Elvis is unattractive, at least when he was healthy.

[quote]Now, he may not appeal to every single individual taste, but to suggest he was not an attractive human being is just objectively and categorically wrong.

What an odd and inaccurate series of statements, substituting personal opinion for "objective" facts.

(a) What does intelligence have to do with being able to rate someone's attractiveness? (b) "literally"? (c) second paragraph is a self-contradictory assertion. He may not appeal to someone's taste, but that person has to be lying/wrong if they say Elvis wasn't attractive? What do you think "attractive" means? (d) changing goalposts: question was "Was Elvis really that attractive?," not "Was Elvis attractive at all?"

I appreciate the amusing nature of this over-the-top reaction and the fact that it inspired me to reach this height of nitpicking. This is fun.

by Anonymousreply 76April 11, 2023 4:23 AM

I never saw it.

by Anonymousreply 77April 11, 2023 4:26 AM

Elvis was sui generis. I'm an Old Frau, though not quite old enough to have become a fan at the time. However, I can appreciate his looks and voice, especially his voice, now.

EP was sexy because he gave the impression of being wild and uninhibited, of being creative and original, with a low purr of a drawl well-suited for female ears. All types and shades of women at his shows wanted his kisses, his scarves, his "Hello, darlin'." There was no other male entertainer like Elvis.

Now, Ricky Nelson was IMO a most beautiful man, and he had many great (and memorable, you whippersnapper losers!) songs ("Travelin' Man" is immortal). But was Ricky sexy? Let's just say "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" mitigated against that. [Note: Ozzie refused to allow Ricky at his height to perform on "The Ed Sullivan Show," to keep him "available" only on the family show.]

But Alain Delon? We're talking a god walking amongst us. What he saw in pug-faced Romy, I'll never know!

by Anonymousreply 81April 11, 2023 5:06 AM

Who is Ricky Nelson? He looks like a suit model.

R75 says it all about Elvis.

And he had a very beautiful voice. I didn't like his music, but the voice legend is true. Garland, Whitney and Elvis are the most famous tragedies in musical history. They were beyond gifted and worshipped. Success beyond measure. Taken down, down, down to the depths by drugs. Not in a one bad hotshot - but after years of public deterioration. Lack of discipline, disrespect for their own talents. Users all around them.

Elvis somehow kept his voice, even when he could no longer control his bowels.

Did Ricky Nelson sing?

by Anonymousreply 82April 11, 2023 5:51 AM

The last scene in the Elvis film was not fiction - he could barely talk or hold a mic - but still had this glorious reasonance, power and fullness to his voice. More wondrous than triumphant - he's a mess.

Rick Nelson was the son of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson (also musicians), who had a huge hit TV series for years, with their sons, Ricky and David. I believe Rick had over 50 hits on the Billboard Top 100 including several #1s. He was one of the biggest teen idols of his time. And an excellent musician/singer.

No pin-ups, though Ricky, if you are not the reincarnation of Helen Keller, was beautiful.

Claiming to be a musician while also claiming not to know of Ricky Nelson is, to borrow a sporting term, a self-own.

But then, my best friend, who considers herself a music fan sans pareil and has seen Bowie, Freddie, and performers in between manifold times, most recently Rick Wakeman, for 50 years, has never heard of Marc Anthony and refuses to believe he is world-famous, scornfully laughs at the claim, in fact.

So maybe you really are just that ignorant.

I can look at any given gorgeous person's photos for long enough that I begin to see imperfections or 'perfection' so perfect that it becomes bland and unsexy. Or someone like Elvis or Marlon Brando might look a little soft and goofy in some photos, etc.

It's not only a person's features that are sexy. It's their energy, the way they move, the way they speak including hand gestures and facial gestures, how they carry themselves, the timbre of their voice, even how they blink.

Elvis aroused people like Brando did. It's a je ne sais quoi, not just that their features were ideal.

People have reduced everything down to base elements today. They go to a surgeon and get remade like a Frankenstein to have all the 'perfect' parts assembled together assuming that will make them sexy to everyone. It's so much more than that.

Ricky Nelson was also on Gunsmoke and starred in a few movies. Rio Bravo comes to mind. He married Kristian Harmon, Mark Harmon's sister. His daughter, Tracey even had a bit of an acting career.

My mother was once the president of Ricky's fan club. She took me with her in the early 80s all over to see him perform. I was around 10 years old at the time and Ricky was doing the Pomona Fair, the Laverne Cattle Club and the famous Palomino club. We stood outside the door of some place where he performed and he came out and met us and was really really nice and signed autographs. Mom used to drive me by his house on Mullholland Drive and we once saw his orange Pantera pull in. I guess Mom was a bit nutty and later turned into a bitch, but I used to enjoy the bonding time we had over Ricky. I even met Harriet Nelson at one of Rick's concerts and got her autograph as well. I interviewed his guitar player, Bobby Neal for an 8th grade project once after a show. Bobby died on the plane with Rick.

One weird fact. Ricky's song, Garden Party forever described his performances thereafter, or at least, a portion of them. The lines in Garden Party are, "I said hello to Mary Lou, she belonged to me, then I sang a song about a honky tonk, and it was time to leave." At each of Ricks performances, he would ALWAYS end with those three songs..."Hello Mary Lou," "She Belongs to Me" and the finale was always, "Honky Tonk Woman."

Elvis’ early demise was due to pharmaceutical abuse and obesity. He was surrounded by enablers including a group of people exploiting him for money and failing or refusing to recognize his health was in peril, That included a physician.

Elvis might have been considered gl contemporaneously, but he was one of those only-perfect-lighting-and-angles kind of gl.

To me he was fug, which makes perfect sense for casting Austin Butler, who is also fug.

R123, Tell me you have no taste without telling me you have no taste.

You're funny, though; Austin has been knocked for NOT resembling Elvis (and in RL he doesn't, not even slightly, which is why "Elvis" should have won the Oscar for "Hair and Makeup")!

Elvis supposedly had intestinal problems from birth. As a 1960s performer, he took the Usual Gang of Suspects like amphetamines (I'm assuming) and what have you. Ultimately the resultant severe constipation strained his heart to its breaking point.

Because many Americans are like little children regarding bodily functions and bathrooms, all tee-hees and Freud, the death of Elvis, unlike with the deaths of most people, has been turned into a punchline by the puerile among us.

Those who claim Elvis did not die on August 16 1977 have never answered why anyone would fake their death that way.

by Anonymousreply 126April 12, 2023 2:08 PM

At least his career didn't go straight down the shitter!

by Anonymousreply 127April 12, 2023 2:46 PM

He died on the floor with his naked ass up in the air. His tongue was clenched between his teeth and his face was blotchy. Humiliating.

by Anonymousreply 128April 12, 2023 4:48 PM

R127 His career was in the shitter before he died. He was a joke.

by Anonymousreply 129April 12, 2023 5:30 PM

R129, Elvis sold out every single show and concert he ever performed. He had a #1 song on Billboard Country in 1976 and in 1977, when he died, and he was charting in Adult Contemporary. Simultaneously Elvis was the #1 Box Office draw for venues holding 18,000 or fewer. You know nothing of his career.

R128, A dead man can't be humiliated. You, OTOH, can be scorned for your post.

by Anonymousreply 130April 12, 2023 7:10 PM

R130 In the 70's to most young people he was a total has been and a Vegas joke. Selling out shows because of nostalgia doesn't change that.

by Anonymousreply 131April 13, 2023 5:23 AM

R131, Oddly enough as it may seem, what anything or anyone is "to most young people" (and I was in college myself in 1970) is not my standard of measurement.

Moreover, the popular music world was in significant flux in the 70s, with diverse artists on Billboard. I'll bet you didn't expect to see the name "Donny Osmond."

But to Elvis: A performer who is still charting with #1 hits cannot accurately be described as a "nostalgia" act. It wasn't as though Elvis was in HIS 70s or even 80s as many touring acts today are: Brian May/Roger Taylor; Frankie V.; Peter Frampton at 72 on his current "Never Say Never Tour"; Billy Joel; Bruuuce; etc., etc.

Elvis at his death had been performing only for 20 years.

To put that into perspective, Taylor Swift has already been a successful recording artist for 17 years, and hardly seems like she is about to become a "nostalgia" act.

Again, you seem determined to describe Elvis and his career through a glass darkly, but inaccurately.

You queens have gone nuts. He was a beautiful man until the addictions.

by Anonymousreply 133April 14, 2023 3:15 PM

Did he really not have sex with Priscilla until they married? She says once she was pregnant he didn't have a sexual interest in her any more so that must have been a small window of sex.

She did anal.

Ricky Lee Nelson was humming when the plane went down. He was celebrating a HUGE hit off the PIPE.

That's been debunked, r136. It was a faulty cabin heater.
