Brandon, we hardly knew ye.
Jeopardy! #37
by Anonymous | reply 600 | May 25, 2023 12:28 AM |
It was MY character and performance that transformed that turgid three-hander into a complex family saga worthy of the Best Picture Oscar!! Forget Tandy, Freeman, and Dan fucking Ackroyd: I should have been nominated AND WON for "Driving Miss Daisy"!!!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 6, 2023 6:45 AM |
I'm pretty good with 80s and 90s Oscar trivia but FJ didn't come to me right away. I literally had to go through each year in my head before I finally figured out it was Miss Daisy - which of course was the last best picture of that decade. Side note: I almost went with Terms of Endearment and Rain Man but I knew neither one of those originated as plays.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 6, 2023 7:22 AM |
I could only think of Kiss of the Spider Woman and Children of a Lesser God, but neither fit the criteria.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 6, 2023 7:35 AM |
Thanks for starting the new thread.
I also blanked on Miss Daisy for Final, which is ironic since Iloved that movie.
Not able to come up with anything else, I guessed On Golden Pond because it did win a few Oscars (which ones I couldn't recall) and has a small number of characters. I recalled there were more than three characters in the movie (I believe its six in the movie) but figured maybe a few of the movie characters were added when they opened up the play for the silver screen. But obviously I was wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 6, 2023 7:46 AM |
I guessed Amadeus, which was a play in the 1980s and a Best Picture winner in 1985, and F. Murray Abraham did win Best Actor. It falls apart after that: there were nine characters not three, and no other Oscar winners.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 6, 2023 8:33 AM |
I thought of Children of a Lesser God also, R3.
No, Theresa wasn't trans. He called attention to the shiny suit!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 6, 2023 12:29 PM |
I wondered how I missed the Oscar-winning film version of Kenny Lonergan's "This Is Our Youth".
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 6, 2023 3:43 PM |
WTF is going on with this show????
Dear casting folks…resign in shame! You suck at your jobs. It feels like they are trying to appeal to half-wits and slack-jawed yokels.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 6, 2023 10:20 PM |
Apparently Eliza’s Thorazine kicked in. 🙄
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 6, 2023 10:27 PM |
I am now completely sick of Brian and I DESPISE that stupid fist-pump that he gives when he gets a correct answer.
Send someone who can spare us from him.
And, I had no idea that the answer to FJ was rhinestones. Talk about obscure.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 7, 2023 12:58 AM |
Be Arthur, Golden Girls, And Then There's Mod... Tonight's Jeopardy was sponsored by Brian and the DL!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 7, 2023 1:14 AM |
Honestly, he really does know his stuff. I can be as shallow as the next guy, and there's a better look for him than what we've seen. However, I think if he were a gay "hottie" folks here would be clamoring for his wins.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 7, 2023 1:24 AM |
Not if he behaved like he does MisterCocoa. Or should I say Brian.
If that is you, Brian, knock it the fuck off.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 7, 2023 1:47 AM |
Enjoy! SCTV and Half Wits! Hosted by Alex Trabell. Caution, I think the video defaults to no volume.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 7, 2023 2:03 AM |
FJ was a toughie!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 7, 2023 3:27 PM |
And no one on the Jeopardy team wanted to tell Brian his hideous suit's collar was all fucked up? Or is he too obese to find a jacket that fits?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 7, 2023 4:00 PM |
I figured Final had something to do with the Rhine River, but didn't get to rhinestones. Maybe if I'd had more time, I would have gotten there.
Brian's suit did not look good on my TV. I wonder what it looked like in person. He comes across as gay, but clearly didn't get the gay fashion gene.
I also wonder if any of the PAs ever take contestants aside and tell them their clothes won't look good on TV. Well, actually now that I think about it, I guess the answer is No. If any of the PAs were giving out clothing advise, surely they would also talk to Mayim about some of the things she wears on screen.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 7, 2023 5:47 PM |
Maxim’s wardrobe has improved.
I think they just didn’t like Brian so they let him go on TV like that.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 7, 2023 6:25 PM |
Seriously, what “material” are his suits made of? He sure likes ‘‘em shiny.
He also gives off a creepy pervert vibe.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 7, 2023 6:46 PM |
R21 "Sharkskin".... likely online, which explains the fit. Sewn by children in Bangla Deah.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 7, 2023 7:06 PM |
Maybe Sharkskin is all the fashion rage in Tennessee.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 7, 2023 7:14 PM |
A beautifully tailored sharkskin suit on a very fit guy looks great. I mean wear what you want obviously, but someone should break it to Brian that gentlemen who are more “amply proportioned” shouldn’t venture there.
The jacket collar area has looked horrid since his first appearance, so I believe it is the same with all the jackets that he brought with him.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 7, 2023 9:48 PM |
Let’s not forget the orange shirt and tie he first appeared in.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 7, 2023 10:18 PM |
Oh my…I nearly did a spit take at the end there. 🤣
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 7, 2023 10:33 PM |
Today was a very good game. I thought it was going to a runaway, but turned out to be rather close when it was all said and done.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 7, 2023 11:07 PM |
Rachel ended up having Brian goosestep out of the game - although next Monday I'll be rooting for her to lose to the cute guy with the beard.
I gotta tell you, I initially didn't see Brian's resemblance to Hitler when he first started his reign of terror.
I was thinking more along the lines of Oliver Hardy because he's, you know, big.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 8, 2023 1:41 AM |
Brian just faded mid-game. Maybe he hit a wall.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 8, 2023 2:38 AM |
FJ was sort of easy. Not sure that any of the three deserved to win.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 8, 2023 3:29 AM |
So this is the official Jeopardy thread and the other one was just a We Hate Brian thread, I guess?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 8, 2023 3:39 AM |
Oh wait, this is a We Hate Brian thread, too.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 8, 2023 3:39 AM |
I no longer hate Brian. Destiny has taken care of the problem.
I don't hate Rachel. I kind of like her. I just think the FJ was pretty easy and she should have gotten (though her "Venezuela" was much closer than the other Ecuador, or, Brazil that that loathsome Brain guessed... um, oh...)
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 8, 2023 3:43 AM |
I thought it was Colombia or Venezuela, but I guessed the wrong one.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 8, 2023 5:27 AM |
It’s back to the bunker for Herr Henegar.
How appropriate that he went out on Good Friday.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 8, 2023 9:45 AM |
Brian might have won if he hadn’t been so cocksure of himself when he messed up Rossini’s first name — which was completely unnecessary. If he had simply answered, “Rossini,” he would have kept the money and, depending on his bet in FJ, might have bested Rachel.
And, whenever he hears one of Rossini’s many overtures, I’ll bet he’s going to think about that. Oh, well . . . .
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 8, 2023 8:22 PM |
Yes, his pretentious declaration of first names. done him in. Ha ha.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 8, 2023 8:27 PM |
Why did everyone dislike him so much? I don’t get it.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 8, 2023 9:23 PM |
R38, my husband likes everyone. He constantly gives people the benefit of the doubt. (Honestly it's exhausting.) But even he couldn't stand Brian. He said the fist pumping and the preening were over the top, and it made him look completely self-absorbed as well as a sore winner.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 8, 2023 10:39 PM |
R39: same here. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but by the end I came to the same conclusion.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 8, 2023 10:54 PM |
I guessed Venezuela for Final. And I still think that's an acceptable answer. The boundaries for the Caribbean Sea include the northern coast of South America, and Venezuela is part of the northern coast.
Here's what Wikipedia said about the boundaries:
It is bounded by Mexico and Central America to the west and southwest, to the north by the Greater Antilles starting with Cuba, to the east by the Lesser Antilles, and to the south by the northern coast of South America. The Gulf of Mexico lies to the northwest.
I never disliked Brian, don't understand the intense hatred of him displayed here. But at the same time, I kept shaking my head at his clothing choices, wondering if he lives somewhere without any mirrors. Similarly, don't they have any mirrors in the studio?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 8, 2023 11:52 PM |
R41, the equator doesn’t pass through Venezuela. That was part of the clue.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 9, 2023 12:02 AM |
If Brian lost 100 lbs and got some decent clothes, you bitches would have been all over him.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 9, 2023 4:03 AM |
Get real, contrarian cunt R43. He was pathetic physically, but even more so was his behavior. You know it. So you’re either a shit stirring twat or you’re Brian. 🤔
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 9, 2023 4:11 AM |
Based on Brian's lengthy description, I think "guest services agent" really means "truck stop whore."
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 9, 2023 4:37 AM |
I was OK with Brian the first night, but just OK. It was the second night that I found him smug and pretentious. The constant fist-pumping was obnoxious and over-the-top. Glad that he’s gone.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 9, 2023 4:53 AM |
I didn't know that Colombia stretched that far south...
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 9, 2023 5:56 AM |
Most of South America is south of the Equator, so one of its northernmost countries would be likely to be on it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 9, 2023 1:02 PM |
Yes, R47, the Colombian city of Leticia is on the Amazon.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 9, 2023 2:17 PM |
I thought "guest services" applied to hotel guests or something similar, like a concierge. But truckers? Tacky! Didn't Ken actually say something about helping truckers with their loads?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 9, 2023 3:03 PM |
He's a truck stop blow job queen!
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 9, 2023 6:25 PM |
We can assume that he works at the TA Travel Center or the Pilot Travel Center – both truck stops – in nearby Pioneer, TN?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 10, 2023 4:23 AM |
Can we pick one thread?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 10, 2023 8:48 AM |
I thought of Colombia first, but discarded that guess based on the idea that Ecuador was south of Colombia. I forgot that a portion of it snaked around Ecuador. In fact, I had to look at a map to see that it also has a border with Peru.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 10, 2023 9:55 AM |
Disappointed that PJ didn’t make it. The guy who won is OK. But I can see tiring of him rather quickly.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 11, 2023 1:20 AM |
Final seemed easy enough to me. Mauna Loa, pine tree, Cathay Pacific and senile ones I knew they didn't.
J. P. was, indeed, a total fox.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 11, 2023 1:39 AM |
R57, So was P. J.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 11, 2023 1:59 AM |
FJ was so easy! I mean, who else could it have been in Florida?
I think the new champ would be quite handsome with some aggressive re-styling. He has a nice smile.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 11, 2023 2:16 AM |
P.J. was a hottie :-)
by Anonymous | reply 60 | April 11, 2023 3:36 AM |
Final was obvious - former champ's Sowetans guess about the most cringe-worthy on the books. I did know Gozo was part of Malta.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | April 12, 2023 1:11 AM |
R61, The new champ’s Obama guess for FJ was also ludicrous.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | April 12, 2023 1:44 AM |
They might be the two most famous Africans in the whole world so how do you not know Nelson Mandela and Bishop Desmond Tutu??
Got it right away.
😬😬
by Anonymous | reply 63 | April 12, 2023 2:12 AM |
Soweto was a dead giveaway. If you’re younger, maybe you wouldn’t know Desmond Tutu, but middle guy had no excuse,
by Anonymous | reply 64 | April 12, 2023 2:22 AM |
Yes, I thought that FJ was obvious with the Soweto part of the clue.
Yesterday’s champ faded quickly today in Double Jeopardy. I like Kat, that green hair notwithstanding.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 12, 2023 4:20 AM |
Right now I'm liking that no champ is succeeding more than 2 or 3 games. The change is welcome.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | April 12, 2023 5:19 AM |
Is the new champ a lezzy?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | April 12, 2023 7:13 AM |
I got FJ. I like the new champ. She seems cool and smart.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | April 12, 2023 7:32 AM |
R68, She’s not that smart. Her “Pollock” DD response was a wild guess, but it put her ahead.
I smell a possible one day wonder.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | April 12, 2023 7:35 AM |
She was great in certain categories, not so much in others. Some people know a lot of trivia in many different categories - others are more specialized in their trivia. We'll see how she is going forward. She has a very pleasant deep voice. (No vocal fry).
by Anonymous | reply 70 | April 12, 2023 8:11 AM |
And she likes wasps!
by Anonymous | reply 71 | April 12, 2023 1:12 PM |
I was fairly certain at the outset that she'd pull the non-binary crud (looking at YOU, Mattea!), but to her credit, no.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | April 12, 2023 3:21 PM |
She certainly knows her whales!
by Anonymous | reply 73 | April 12, 2023 3:44 PM |
Does she like WASPs?
by Anonymous | reply 74 | April 12, 2023 3:49 PM |
R67 I certainly hope so. It'd be a waste to look like that and not be a lesbian.
Yeah, FJ was astonishingly easy.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | April 12, 2023 4:56 PM |
You mean Obama never lived in Africa?
by Anonymous | reply 76 | April 12, 2023 7:26 PM |
Admitting that, yeah, I wanted a homo champ - yay!
Ummm ... Columbia is not the same as Colombia - dud question! My ex came out of the theater in tears years ago ñ after seeing Kathleen Chalfant in WIT; great performance! Isn't Xi pronounced Kai? I knew Labour were Liberals in Canada.
How R U, peeps?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | April 13, 2023 1:05 AM |
Is the new champ a homosexualist?
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 13, 2023 1:57 AM |
Don't know, but he's very sweet.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | April 13, 2023 3:02 AM |
R78 He just happened to be sitting in a bar when Aaron Rodgers and his buddies came in.... That's enough to keep DL buzzing for weeks.
Hard to believe that no one knew the name of Trudeau's party.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | April 13, 2023 3:14 AM |
And the theatergoing fan couldn't come up with WIT?
by Anonymous | reply 81 | April 13, 2023 3:18 AM |
R81 She probably only counts [italic]shows[/italic], not plays!
by Anonymous | reply 82 | April 13, 2023 3:30 AM |
Nice comeback by the new champ. That $7,000.00 DD loss was a stinger.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | April 13, 2023 4:14 AM |
I was wrong on the Bill of Rights, but I know my Dorgis.
I really liked all three contestants!!!
by Anonymous | reply 84 | April 13, 2023 4:55 AM |
A “wild guess” of Pollock is a pretty smart wild guess.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | April 13, 2023 6:02 AM |
That Kenya guess, ooo boy
by Anonymous | reply 86 | April 13, 2023 6:40 AM |
Oh boy! Or should I say girl? Drag Queen Whiskey Ginger aka Kevin Belle is a contestant on Friday.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | April 13, 2023 6:59 PM |
And is it just me, or does Ken look a little nauseated?
by Anonymous | reply 88 | April 13, 2023 7:00 PM |
Sorry...That should be Friday, April 28.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | April 13, 2023 7:02 PM |
I didn’t like the condescending laughter about Pigeon Forge.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | April 13, 2023 10:14 PM |
Ben looks like a lesbian
by Anonymous | reply 91 | April 14, 2023 12:57 AM |
I have a Dr. Fell thing about the champ: I should like him I suppose, but I want him to go away. Guessed Hawaii for final, though knew it wasn't likely correct. However, I did know MY Old Kentucky Home.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | April 14, 2023 1:00 AM |
Ben is en fuego 🔥
Wow.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | April 14, 2023 1:22 AM |
This new champ seems like an odd duck, but in a quirky, mostly non-offensive way. Still, if he left after a few days, I’d be good with that.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | April 14, 2023 1:52 AM |
R94, he rings in first at an impressive pace. He’s not going anywhere for quite a while. At least he doesn’t pump his fists and have Hitler hair and mustache.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | April 14, 2023 2:14 AM |
Is Ben gay ? I bet he's wild in bed.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | April 14, 2023 2:27 AM |
Ben is so cute
by Anonymous | reply 97 | April 14, 2023 2:47 AM |
There's something very sweet about Ben.
I think it's amusing that he comes across as rather pleasant, but he signs his name with an exclamation point.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | April 14, 2023 3:45 AM |
Ben! is very quirky charming in spite of the exclamation mark and the RESCUE DOGS shout-out. Liz's dead air story was pretty funny.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | April 14, 2023 5:34 AM |
I'm tired of Ben.
Missed final in guessing Dante, but did know Peter Cottontail, Ben-Hur, and Andorra.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | April 15, 2023 1:14 AM |
Ben is sweet and loveable hope he makes it to the players club
by Anonymous | reply 101 | April 15, 2023 4:34 AM |
Ben is fine by me, but enough with the all wordplay, anagram, and rhyming categories, at which I suck.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | April 15, 2023 4:48 AM |
Me too! Oh, and that woman's voice. Wasa cup of tea and a lozenge not available?
by Anonymous | reply 103 | April 15, 2023 5:26 AM |
R100 I couldn't believe they didn't guess Peter Cottontail. That was probably the easiest answer of the week.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | April 15, 2023 4:19 PM |
I thought of A Tale of Two Cities for final.
Good game with everybody involved.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | April 18, 2023 1:32 AM |
I really loved the older lady and was rooting for her. She did seem to have a chance of winning for awhile. FJ seemed very obvious to me after it was revealed, lol.
But all 3 contestants were pleasant, fun and smart and I'm happy with the winner who I assume is gay.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | April 18, 2023 2:00 AM |
New champ is homely.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | April 18, 2023 2:31 AM |
Homely is being polite, R107. I would call him a Zack Gallifinakis lookalike, with worse hair.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | April 18, 2023 3:09 AM |
So that's a hairstyle, yup. And that's not the face to have it, nope.
English Literature is a strong category for me... and I missed FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | April 18, 2023 3:28 AM |
I did know final...I had often thought of this quote during my (awful) years in western Ohio.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | April 18, 2023 4:43 AM |
I guessed "The Pilgrim's Progress." Well done, Daniel.
Toni sounded like she was from Buffalo, not Chicago, to me.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | April 18, 2023 4:50 AM |
I thought Mayim was due back a couple of weeks ago? At this rate, she'll be on barely three months out of eleven.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | April 18, 2023 7:25 AM |
My understanding is that Mayim does the special tournaments and so forth, and Ken does the day -to-day shows, but that could be wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | April 18, 2023 9:00 AM |
Me, too, r111!
by Anonymous | reply 114 | April 18, 2023 1:08 PM |
That’s a good thing, R112.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | April 18, 2023 5:14 PM |
There's that Jeopardy Masters tournament which starts on May 8 in prime time, but apparently Ken is hosting that rather than Mayim.
The Masters tournament features with Amy, Mattea and Matt plus Andrew He, Sam Buttrey and James Holzhauer.
The players will compete in various pairings throughout a three-week competition with 10 one-hour episodes featuring two games per episode.
It will air on ABC starting May 8 at 8 p.m. (EST). Will stream on Hulu.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | April 18, 2023 5:38 PM |
I prefer Mayim.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | April 18, 2023 5:49 PM |
What happened to Ben?!
by Anonymous | reply 118 | April 18, 2023 5:50 PM |
Ken mentioned that Ken was unable to travel to continue filming. He will be back later once he’s able to.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | April 18, 2023 5:52 PM |
Crushed by a Snow Cat.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | April 18, 2023 5:53 PM |
Crushed in a good way by Aaron Rodgers.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | April 18, 2023 5:55 PM |
Oh, sorry, meant Ben was unable to travel.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | April 18, 2023 6:15 PM |
According to some news report Ben fell ill and they decided that he would just come back in May.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | April 18, 2023 9:33 PM |
The new winner has a hairstyle like Mary Trump wore, back in the day.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | April 18, 2023 9:44 PM |
I’d like to see that make a comeback. Very flattering.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | April 18, 2023 9:48 PM |
R125 Trump's been trying for many years, as an homage to his mom.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | April 18, 2023 9:50 PM |
It's weird that James Holzhauer will continue competing with Ken as the new host. Doesn't that create some kind of conflict of interest since they competed against one another? James should retire from game play like many other all stars from the Trebek era have.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | April 18, 2023 10:25 PM |
I like Sam, but the rest of them? No thanks.
So, Mayim isn't hosting any regular games at all this season?
by Anonymous | reply 128 | April 18, 2023 11:05 PM |
Daniel is working on a satirical scripted podcast on the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. This is the most hipster thing I’ve ever heard in my life.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | April 19, 2023 12:42 AM |
They? Here we go again ...
Didn't get final, but knew janissaries, Grenoble, and Wars of the Roses.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | April 19, 2023 12:59 AM |
FJ was super easy!!
The best movie music composer EVER!!
I got the War of the Roses answer as well.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | April 19, 2023 1:30 AM |
So the new champ, who looks female. talks like a female and is a female, is really a 'they' ?
by Anonymous | reply 132 | April 19, 2023 2:26 AM |
The new. champ keeps shrugging as if she couldn't care less.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | April 19, 2023 2:36 AM |
They did have a rather strange attitude.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | April 19, 2023 2:58 AM |
R134 All of them? Oh, wait....
I think if someone wants a "neutral" pronoun, the person should use "it".... singular/plural distinctions are more than useful.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | April 19, 2023 3:09 AM |
Jeremy was brainy cute, but the chemistry chatter was boring.
I got John Le Carre and Rabelais, and was glad to see kind and patient DL fave Karen Grassle get some love.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | April 19, 2023 5:09 AM |
I’m only going to say this once.
Devin is mine, all mine, so hands off!
by Anonymous | reply 137 | April 19, 2023 7:28 PM |
It’s not fair for people with early access to J! to claim the hot contestants. I protest.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | April 19, 2023 11:39 PM |
Devin really is gorgeous. Glad he won.
FWIW, I got Final Jeopardy, and I'm not that knowledgeable of poetry.

Devin is hot as hell. So glad that he got those two DDs, leapt into the lead, and won.
It’s not fair for people with early access to J! to claim the hot contestants. I protest.
You can look up the contestants in advance.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | April 20, 2023 12:55 AM |
Thought Devin was kind of dim, but he found a few categories that he mastered. Nice voice, too.

A question for our self-identifying lesbian friends ...
"They" seems to be very much a masculine female thing. Is it from a butch stigma among women? Are these people with vaginas bisexual? Or ... just a fad?
by Anonymous | reply 142 | April 20, 2023 1:05 AM |
You could have Devin, because I wanted Ben !
by Anonymous | reply 143 | April 20, 2023 1:24 AM |
Ben had zero personality.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | April 20, 2023 1:38 AM |
Deb is annoying
by Anonymous | reply 145 | April 20, 2023 1:44 AM |
Finally! An episode with three men!
by Anonymous | reply 146 | April 20, 2023 2:11 AM |
Deb seems like a good guy.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | April 20, 2023 2:16 AM |
What a dour group of Eeyores. At one point I felt like I was watching a Sprockets skit from SNL.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | April 20, 2023 2:17 AM |
He is not. His face is crooked.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | April 20, 2023 3:07 AM |
He's not even porn star handsome. Dude is ugly.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | April 20, 2023 3:15 AM |
And his beige (what a horrible color!) tee shirt was all stretched out.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | April 20, 2023 4:09 AM |
I missed a lot, but got Paris Match and Thebes. I got FJ because I loved Woody Allen's book, "Without Feathers."
by Anonymous | reply 153 | April 20, 2023 5:04 AM |
R154, He’s absolutely flawless.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | April 20, 2023 5:35 AM |
r151, I want to live in your world, where he is considered ugly.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | April 20, 2023 12:53 PM |
I'm not a wagering genius by any means but the wagers for last night's FJ were really head-scratching. Maybe it's because poetry isn't my strong suit, but it made zero sense to me for Deb and Ben to bet all of their money. Deb didn't even try to cover Ben for second place, she just went all in. Not very strategic imho.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | April 20, 2023 1:35 PM |
Also, the judges should have asked Deb to specify her Deschanel answer. Zooey has an older sister Emily, but Ken ruled Deb correct without asking her to clarify which sister. I'm surprised she got away with that since previous players have been ruled incorrect for providing only a last name that can apply to more than one person.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | April 20, 2023 2:05 PM |
Yes, R157, terrible wagering by both Deb and third place guy. Either of them could have won, but they’re morons.
And Deb acted like they didn’t want to be there. They should have been replaced midway through the show by someone who enjoys being on fucking Jeopardy.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | April 20, 2023 3:17 PM |
R159, given the pronoun you used for Deb, did I miss some sort of announcement that this person is trans or non-binary? Whatever, I was thinking Deb looked more than a little like Rachel Dratch. And I too was put off by Deb's air of really not wanting to be there.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | April 20, 2023 3:49 PM |
Yes, R160. Ken consistently referred to Deb as they.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | April 20, 2023 3:54 PM |
Thanks, R161, I missed that. I still think "they" look like Rachel Dratch.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | April 20, 2023 7:27 PM |
r160, I read your post as: "...Deb's hair really not wanting to be there."
Which seemed totally apt.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | April 20, 2023 8:30 PM |
I must commend Ken on his consistently remembering to use "they/them" with the non-binary contestants.
It's one thing to say they/them while reading off the contestant's card during the introduction section. It's something else to remember to say they/them at the end of the game while determining who the winner is.
With everything else Ken has to keep up with in running the game, remembering someone's pronouns seems like something that could easily fall by the wayside.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | April 20, 2023 8:46 PM |
R164, if he messes up they’ll just have him say it correctly and edit it in. A friend recently attended a taping and Ken taped several corrections (none related to pronouns) at the end of the show.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | April 20, 2023 9:41 PM |

That turtleneck, though...

R168 I like the turtleneck. An architect?.Smart guy. He seems a little awkward which just makes him hotter.

Damn. And you just know he has the perfect amount of hair on his chest too. So long, hottie. Thanks for the memories.

With those awful clothes the past 2 nights, Devin couldn't possibly be gay. Of course, he pulled them off....but still........
by Anonymous | reply 176 | April 21, 2023 4:37 AM |
R170, Despite losing, Devin came through on two difficult DDs.
His interview stories on both nights involved activities with another man, but still he didn’t move my gaydar needle.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | April 21, 2023 4:38 AM |
I guessed Googlesomething for FJ; tough one.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | April 21, 2023 5:05 AM |
As cute as Devin is, I hated the turtleneck on him. A cowl neck turtleneck?!?!?!?
Really liked Sam and thought he would win. Maybe he'll be back for Second Chances
I guessed Metaverse for Final purely because Facebook changed its name to Meta. Was stunned that it was right.
by Anonymous | reply 179 | April 21, 2023 8:16 AM |
FJ threw me off. I find it very hard to believe the term "metaverse" has only been around since 1992. As a comic geek, I know the term Multiverse has been around since the 1960s. You're telling me nobody came up with the term metaverse until 1992? Not buying it.

Any Broadway Theatre fans on this thread? Devin could be the twin of SHUCKED, TOOTSIE and THE 39 STEPS hottie John Behlmann.

R181, I think he looks exactly like a young Alan Ruck.

Devin was stunning. Handsome, masculine, BDF. I’m sure he’s very well taken care of (by women or men, I wasn’t totally sure). He wasn’t too good with movies, music, or pop culture so I am leaning straight.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | April 21, 2023 3:50 PM |
Devin reminded me of Ed Fry who was on “As the World Turns” years ago.

Here are the ones I knew that none of them did, which I mention here because I want to know whether they were obvious to other posters in this thread? I did guess Final. Albany and Boston are fairly low altitude and nowhere near Denver.

Albany and Boston was possibly the stupidest FJ answer of all time.

I thought it was Santa Fe and Salt Lake City.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | April 25, 2023 3:08 AM |

Santa Fe and Helena.

R195 I thought the same thing. What the hell was she thinking ?
by Anonymous | reply 200 | April 25, 2023 2:17 PM |
I knew Final but I know US geography.
The Albany to Boston person doesn't know US geography and just put down an answer because she had to write something as time was ticking away. She knew it was wrong when she wrote it.
Monday seemed like an especially easy game to me. Was surprised at how many the contestants didn't guess at or guessed wrong. I also knew Stratego, "Strawberry Fields Forever," "She Love You," Goodwill ambassador and several others.
I was also surprised the judges let "Something in the way she moves me," pass when the song title is just "Something." .

I'm not that charitable, R201, as the clue pointedly stated the capitals were near Denver. Anyone "qualified" to be a contestant should realize that Boston is at sea level.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | April 25, 2023 7:41 PM |
I live near I-25 so I knew Santa Fe right away. Didn’t have a clue about the other city. I thought about Austin, briefly, but it wasn’t right.

Interstates that run north/south are odd-numbered and ones that run east/west are even-numbered. It wasn’t a difficult question if you don’t panic.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | April 25, 2023 8:42 PM |
R206 And I believe the lowest numbers start on the west coast and gradually increase to the east coast, where we have I - 95 (which runs through Boston and NY). So that would put I-25 closer to the west coast than what she guessed.

Got final though I thought Magnum and 5-0 were further apart.
Joyce Kilmer wrote Trees, KC was a bit tricky as I believe it's KCMO and KCKS, no? I guessed Trappists, but associate them with jam more than beer?

The clue in FJ was that another 'long running drama had ended'. And two of them guess the sitcom MASH ? Do they not know what a drama is ?
by Anonymous | reply 214 | April 26, 2023 3:28 AM |
Easiest FJ in a while, I thought. And all three had played a strong game and totally whiffed on FJ. Sometimes ya jest don't know, eh?
by Anonymous | reply 215 | April 26, 2023 3:31 AM |
R214, although MASH had some sit-com elements, I don't think anyone but you would describe it as a sit-com.

Book all three of 'em, Dano.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | April 26, 2023 4:51 AM |
R216 You're wrong once again ! Wiki describes it as a sitcom, and it won an Emmy for 'Best Comedy Series' during it's 11 year run, while it's cast won numerous Emmys in the 'Best Acting in a Comedy Series' during that 11 year run.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | April 26, 2023 1:47 PM |
R218, Didn’t it have a laugh track?
by Anonymous | reply 219 | April 26, 2023 1:52 PM |
R219 It did. But R215 saw it as a drama.
by Anonymous | reply 220 | April 26, 2023 1:54 PM |
“Like most TV comedies of the time, M*A*S*H made use of a “laugh track,” generally pre-recorded sounds of an audience giving the desired reaction to the jokes. There was some uncertainty about taking this approach on M*A*S*H, given that the show was set in a war zone and regularly dealt with life-or-death scenarios.
It was agreed that it would be inappropriate for laughter to ever be included during scenes in the surgery room, even when jokes are made, so no laugh track was ever added to these sequences.“
by Anonymous | reply 221 | April 26, 2023 1:56 PM |
"M*A*S*H always had a complicated relationship with its laugh track, and here's why it finally ditched it towards the end of its run. M*A*S*H was originally a novel by author Richard Hooker - based on his experiences as a doctor in the Korean War - before being adapted into an acclaimed Robert Altman movie. The M*A*S*H TV show started as more of a sitcom, focusing on the hijacks of Alan Alda's "Hawkeye" Pierce and Wayne Rogers' "Trapper." It later became a dramedy, dialing back the wackiness to explore the toll the war took on its characters, including their trauma and PTSD."
M*A*S*H broke new ground for future shows and became one of the first sitcoms to challenge the laugh track. Considering the setting, showrunners Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds didn't want a laugh track at all, considering it inappropriate. Since comedies of the era almost always came with one, they were overruled. That said, CBS agreed to drop the track over operation room sequences. The laugh track used in M*A*S*H was also more subdued and became quieter in later seasons. More dramatic episodes like season 4 finale "The Interview" dropped it entirely, and by the final season, nearly every episode was laugh track free.

Tuesday was a great game. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Final seemed especially easy to me. Surprised non of the contestants got it. But getting the right answer required knowing Magnum was filmed in Hawaii which apparently none of them did.

Anyone else get: buttery, Iolani Palace, boater, Heliopolis, and the give-away answer Kaiser Wilhelm?

Oops - meant R264 above.
by Anonymous | reply 267 | April 29, 2023 1:08 AM |
Because tonight’s Jeopardy episode was preempted by the NFL draft, I had to find it online. I’ve been successful of late by using Google and plugging in the full day and date. Even though Google pulls up the episodes on YouTube, going to YouTube and doing a search doesn’t necessarily direct me to the current day’s episode.
Sadly, adorable Eric got bested by a sometimes drag Queen from the DC area. Eric was cute, but generally in over his head; he was a potted plant for most of Double Jeopardy.
Shocked that none of the contestants got what I thought was an exceptionally easy FJ: President Ford in (1975), (so at the start of the Bicentennial), hung three lanterns in what space? Not sure how they all missed the Old North Church, which seemed very obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 268 | April 29, 2023 1:10 AM |
The complete episode is up at YouTube. Go watch it now as there are going to be lots of spoiler comments I believe.

by Anonymous | reply 274 | April 29, 2023 2:04 AM |
I think even if because of the lantern mentioned in the clue I'd connected "One if by land, two if by sea" and Paul Revere and Boston, I still couldn't have come up with that specific location. But I guessed Bunker Hill so maybe I wasn't too far off?
I'll miss cute Eric (and that sweater!). He was always so sweet in acknowledging his competitors' successes on both days. Do we suppose he's gay?

My unenlightened guess was Beacon Hill. Katherine reminded me a bit of Jodie as Clarice Starling, only she smiled more.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | April 29, 2023 5:14 AM |
Was Eric wearing large Band-Aids on his sweater?
by Anonymous | reply 277 | April 29, 2023 8:44 AM |
I inferred that, R275. Instead of wife/gf he talked of his grandparents.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | April 29, 2023 9:21 AM |
R275, Would a gay man have been caught dead in that sweater?
by Anonymous | reply 279 | April 29, 2023 9:50 AM |
Yes. I thought it was cute.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | April 29, 2023 1:16 PM |
Eric's sweater was part of the costume he wore in GODSPELL at his high school in 1973.
by Anonymous | reply 281 | April 29, 2023 3:06 PM |
R281, Then he would be nearing 70 years old.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | April 29, 2023 3:30 PM |
Eric was wearing a sweater he found at Good Will, which was donated by Bill Cosby from his 80s sweater collection.
I guessed OIT OF AFRICA and WILLIAM HOLDEN, did not guess FJ - and I'm from RI, was 12 during the Bicentennial.
We shall see how the new champ Miss Ginger Whiskey does on Monday, when Myown Ballsack returns as host.
by Anonymous | reply 283 | April 29, 2023 3:34 PM |
The Masters tournament which starts in another week will be 10 one hour episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | April 29, 2023 3:57 PM |
I knew William Holden, Out of Africa, Androcles, Wizard of Oz and several more that the contestants missed.
I couldn't think of anything for Final, so I guessed Statue of Liberty.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | April 29, 2023 11:48 PM |
The old hag’s voice is grating.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | May 2, 2023 3:22 AM |
Another win for Ginger Whiskey, though I was rooting for Cyrus - he was a cutie.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | May 2, 2023 3:24 AM |
Ginger is a careful player. Rarely buzzes without knowing the answer. And bets very modestly.
I like him. I liked all 3 tonight. Everyone here is so bitchy.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | May 2, 2023 3:46 AM |
I liked all three too. Maryhelen seemed to be channeling late career Greer Garson. FJ was tricky and fooled me into guessing Candide...
by Anonymous | reply 289 | May 2, 2023 5:04 AM |
I felt Cyrus gave one of the most awkward, cringe-worthy interviews. Ginger is, indeed, cute ... and married it seems. As soon as the divided island category appeared I had a feeling St. Martin would be an answer. Was surprised at Maryhelen's husband, figuring her spouse would have been another former nun.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | May 2, 2023 12:22 PM |
“Maryhelen seemed to be channeling late career Greer Garson” is a sentence that can only ever be found on Datalounge.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | May 2, 2023 2:17 PM |
“I felt Cyrus gave one of the most awkward, cringe-worthy interviews.”
It was rambling, boring and senseless.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | May 2, 2023 2:42 PM |
Guessed Daniel Defoe for FJ.
That was a hard one, what was the Biblical reference that related to Gulliver?
by Anonymous | reply 293 | May 2, 2023 3:41 PM |
First name "Lemuel" is derived from "devoted to God" in Hebrew. (I had to look this up.)
by Anonymous | reply 294 | May 2, 2023 3:46 PM |
FJ was hard.... I misheard or misunderstood the question - "Lemuel" is not in the title and I was trying to think of titles. I liked MaryHelen a lot - perky old broad - but Jude the Obscure was published in 1895... pretty far from "18th Century"
by Anonymous | reply 295 | May 2, 2023 3:55 PM |
I got FJ right away, not because I'm brilliant, but because Jeopardy often uses Gulliver's Travels as a response.and there aren't that many well-known 18th century novels.. .
by Anonymous | reply 296 | May 2, 2023 4:00 PM |
Guessed Daniel Defoe for FJ.
Why? They specifically asked for the name of a novel.
by Anonymous | reply 297 | May 2, 2023 9:05 PM |
I stand corrected. They asked for a character name, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | May 2, 2023 9:10 PM |
Yes, they asked for the title character; tricky because it helps to know his first name, too.
by Anonymous | reply 299 | May 2, 2023 11:12 PM |
Yeah, I got confused about what they were looking for, book title or author. At first I thought Daniel Deronda (both a title and a character) but then remembered it was written in the 19th century......but kept the Daniel part when I moved onto Daniel Defoe.
by Anonymous | reply 300 | May 2, 2023 11:29 PM |
I’m surprise the librarian picked an obviously wrong Jude the Obscure.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | May 2, 2023 11:37 PM |
*surprised

A homosexualist champion on Jeopardy and another WOF winner on the same day.
Where are the earthquakes?
by Anonymous | reply 303 | May 3, 2023 1:08 AM |
Damnit. I said tuberculosis.
by Anonymous | reply 304 | May 3, 2023 1:29 AM |
That female contestant was pretty stupid, and kept buzzing in when she obviously wasn't sure she had the right answer, because most of the answers she gave were wrong. I was surprised she made it to FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 305 | May 3, 2023 1:32 AM |
I couldn't believe the ridiculous answers they were giving for 'Double Double Letters' . Didn't they understand the category ? Some of the answers they spat out (especially the green hair woman) didn't have any double letters in them.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | May 3, 2023 1:34 AM |
I could have stood there for 10 years and never come up with "pertussis."
by Anonymous | reply 307 | May 3, 2023 2:34 AM |
R306, as I noted, she really seemed quite stupid. I thought she would never get out of hole in Jeopardy!, then she managed to climb out of it with the help of a Daily Double -- and then, a minute or two later, she was back in negative number territory. Amazing that she made it to FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | May 3, 2023 3:45 AM |
FJ seemed obvious. It could either have been the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine or DPT — diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus. Of those six diseases only whooping cough — pertussis — is a respiratory illness.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | May 3, 2023 3:47 AM |
Since I don’t know what diphtheria is, I said diphtheria. At least I got the right vaccine.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | May 3, 2023 6:19 AM |
CDC: “Diphtheria is a serious infection caused by strains of bacteria called Corynebacterium diphtheriae that make toxin. It can lead to difficulty breathing, heart rhythm problems, and even death.
“Difficulty breathing” sounds respiratory.
by Anonymous | reply 311 | May 3, 2023 6:21 AM |
Why isn't tonight's episode up on youtube?
by Anonymous | reply 312 | May 3, 2023 7:09 AM |
I did know pertussis, because I had my tetanus booster lately with that protection included.
by Anonymous | reply 313 | May 3, 2023 1:12 PM |
Ken Jennings was supposed to host a forum last night at one of our local universities on the subject of "AI". It's been advertised for months, and tickets sold out. This weekend, it was canceled - seems Jennings tested positive for COVID late last week. It's now rescheduled for later this month.
by Anonymous | reply 315 | May 3, 2023 4:55 PM |
Ridiculously easy FJ today.
Oh, and I’ve had more than sufficient of Mayim. It’s a completely different show with her hosting.
by Anonymous | reply 316 | May 3, 2023 11:13 PM |
Is Hannah trans?
Well, is she?
by Anonymous | reply 317 | May 3, 2023 11:41 PM |
R316, The pauses, as she obviously turns to the judges for approval, are annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 318 | May 3, 2023 11:44 PM |
R317,
I’m wondering the same thing. I would say yes.
by Anonymous | reply 319 | May 4, 2023 12:36 AM |
I’m wondering the same thing. I would say yes.
That makes three of us. I’d say yes as well.
by Anonymous | reply 320 | May 4, 2023 12:54 AM |
Is the new champ (yet another) trans?
by Anonymous | reply 321 | May 4, 2023 12:59 AM |
I'm beginning to think Mayim is trans. Sheldon Cooper went under the knife.
by Anonymous | reply 322 | May 4, 2023 1:52 AM |
Wasn't easy for the losers.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | May 4, 2023 1:59 AM |
I was disappointed they didn’t know Clarence Clemons or Charlie Parker. And the previous champ thought Louis Armstrong played the sax.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | May 4, 2023 2:45 AM |
I had no idea for FJ. I like John C. Reilly, but missed half of those too. Mayim's hair and glasses looked good tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | May 4, 2023 4:56 AM |
Mayim looks like she has lost a bit of weight
by Anonymous | reply 326 | May 4, 2023 5:00 AM |
I’ve had more than sufficient of Mayim. It’s a completely different show with her hosting.
And, as I may have mentioned before, I really hate it that they introduce her as "the host of Jeopardy!" which makes it sound like there is only one host, when of course there are two. "Hosting Jeopardy!" is more accurate.
by Anonymous | reply 327 | May 4, 2023 5:06 AM |
I really hate it that they introduce her as "the host of Jeopardy!" which makes it sound like there is only one host, when of course there are two.
That’s exactly the same thing they now say when introducing Ken Jennings.
by Anonymous | reply 328 | May 4, 2023 5:12 AM |
I couldn't stand listening to Hannah as she gave her answers - such a monotone, dull woman. Can you imagine being married to her and listening to her every day ?
by Anonymous | reply 329 | May 4, 2023 2:06 PM |
r329, I found Hannah just the opposite. Very vivacious and appealing.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | May 4, 2023 2:39 PM |
R330, And sexuality questionable.
by Anonymous | reply 331 | May 4, 2023 3:32 PM |
I would like to have seen Dan win on Wednesday's (May 3rd) show.
by Anonymous | reply 332 | May 4, 2023 3:58 PM |
Ginger was off her game Wednesday night, she just faded away.
by Anonymous | reply 333 | May 4, 2023 4:04 PM |
R330 i think i heard Hannah said she had a wife
by Anonymous | reply 334 | May 4, 2023 5:09 PM |
R334, That’s a man, baby.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | May 4, 2023 5:17 PM |
That’s exactly the same thing they now say when introducing Ken Jennings.
I still think it doesn't sound right. And I don't understand why, for such a long time, Ken was introduced differently (and more accurately) as "hosting Jeopardy!" but then it changed to the more inaccurate phrase "THE host of Jeopardy!"
by Anonymous | reply 337 | May 4, 2023 5:48 PM |
Oh my. Didn't realize "hannah" was a man
by Anonymous | reply 338 | May 4, 2023 5:55 PM |
With the Jeopardy Masters tournament starting on Monday, should we create a new thread to discuss those games?
Or do we want to discuss the Masters tournament and the daily game in the same thread?
by Anonymous | reply 339 | May 4, 2023 7:08 PM |
Wow! That will be 90 minutes of Jeopardy! each day for two weeks.
I don't know I'm going to have time to keep up with all that each day.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | May 4, 2023 7:10 PM |
I can’t decide.
by Anonymous | reply 341 | May 4, 2023 7:10 PM |
I think we need a sperate thread, R339. That would make it easier to post and address certain players.
by Anonymous | reply 342 | May 4, 2023 8:43 PM |
I think separate threads are better.
I'll be watching the Masters games each night, but may not have a chance to watch all the daily games until the weekend.
I would prefer not to have discussion of the two different games to overlap on the same thread when I may not have had a chance to watch the daily game.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | May 4, 2023 9:02 PM |
R336, Hannah is even more masculine in her second Jeopardy! appearance.
by Anonymous | reply 344 | May 4, 2023 10:10 PM |
Don’t know if any of you watch other trivia type shows, but I’ve noticed some really suspicious (nearly exact) questions on Jeopardy and on Switched and Split Second on GSN. Clearly they have a writer(s) who is providing the same questions to different shows. That person needs to get his ass fired. It’s happened at least four or five times in the last couple of weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 345 | May 4, 2023 10:38 PM |
I know I sound like a broken record, but good fucking god, where are they getting these shit contestants??? I lost count, it had to have been a dozen or more clues that I knew that they got wrong or just stood there like bumps on logs.
by Anonymous | reply 346 | May 4, 2023 11:11 PM |
This show cannot find HOT guy players but they can find plenty of THEMS.
by Anonymous | reply 347 | May 5, 2023 12:20 AM |
Mayim looked adorable in today’s episode. Finally some good styling for her.
by Anonymous | reply 349 | May 5, 2023 12:59 AM |
As we've said before, it's tough to beat a crossword champ.
by Anonymous | reply 350 | May 5, 2023 1:36 AM |
I was rooting for Marie Claude. She had such a nice accent.
by Anonymous | reply 351 | May 5, 2023 2:49 AM |
Yeah, Hannah, the super fast crossword champ is going to be hard to get rid of. And the two challengers tonight were lovely people, but clearly were not up to the task.
by Anonymous | reply 352 | May 5, 2023 2:53 AM |
Poor Marie-Claude never had a chance, even if Mayim used her best high-school French to pronounce her name.
by Anonymous | reply 353 | May 5, 2023 1:47 PM |
Go Hannah! Love her.
by Anonymous | reply 354 | May 5, 2023 3:34 PM |
Great show tonight. None of them were on fire but the champ had some decent competition. And a difficult but clever FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 355 | May 6, 2023 12:36 AM |
Yeah, tonight was a good game. And it showed that Hannah, when up against decent competitors, doesn’t dominate the way she did last night.
by Anonymous | reply 356 | May 6, 2023 1:02 AM |
No one knew Betty White played Rose Nylund?
by Anonymous | reply 357 | May 6, 2023 1:19 AM |
That was shocking, r357!
by Anonymous | reply 358 | May 6, 2023 2:15 AM |

R359, And trans.
by Anonymous | reply 360 | May 6, 2023 5:17 AM |
Sports are my worst category, but I was SURE Dodgers was right....
Super perky Ellie Kemper reading the baking clues seemed to be on a sugar high.

Does the Master's Tournament start Monday because nothing was mentioned on Friday.
by Anonymous | reply 363 | May 6, 2023 1:15 PM |
Every fucking night for 10 days, Monday through Friday.
by Anonymous | reply 364 | May 6, 2023 4:55 PM |
What does “Dodgers” have to do with youth?
by Anonymous | reply 365 | May 6, 2023 7:08 PM |
Does the Master's Tournament start Monday because nothing was mentioned on Friday.
Plenty of commercials for the Masters Tournament are airing, including during Friday's game.
Mayim likely didn't say anything on air because when they taped Friday's game back in March, an exact air date for the Master's Tournament likely hadn't been set yet.
Also, don't forget the Master's Tournament airs in primetime on ABC, whereas the regular show is syndicated on various stations around the country. Thus, a CBS or NBC station that airs the regular show isn't going to want to promote a special show airing on ABC.
by Anonymous | reply 366 | May 6, 2023 11:48 PM |
Exactly, R366. My CBS affiliate airs JEOPARDY each weeknight at 7:30 pm, so they won't be promoting an ABC special.
by Anonymous | reply 367 | May 7, 2023 12:24 AM |
Who are DLers favorite Masters in this tournament?
by Anonymous | reply 368 | May 7, 2023 12:46 AM |
I guess I'd bet on Holzhauer to win, followed by Schneider.
by Anonymous | reply 369 | May 7, 2023 12:49 AM |
As for me, I cannot wait to see Cris Pannullo again! How long will we have to wait for that?
I actually live on the Jersey Shore, though a different town from Cris, so I always have my eyes out for him.

I’ve had more than enough of Amy Schneider.
by Anonymous | reply 373 | May 7, 2023 2:13 PM |
Mattea should be forced to compete with their hands bound at their sides.
by Anonymous | reply 374 | May 7, 2023 8:09 PM |
I’m not looking forward to 90 minutes of Jeopardy! every night. It’s too much.
by Anonymous | reply 375 | May 8, 2023 5:51 AM |
Link to the thread to discuss the Jeopardy! Masters Tournament.
Use this thread to discuss the daily syndicated game.
by Anonymous | reply 376 | May 8, 2023 7:12 AM |
Some people may not be watching the daily syndicated show, but will be watching the Masters Tournament.
And some will be watching the daily syndicated show, but not the Masters Tournament.
Thus the need for separate threads to discuss the games.
by Anonymous | reply 377 | May 8, 2023 7:19 AM |
The writers really don’t like older women, do they? They famously age-baited Diana Ross multiple times, and today referred to Bonnie Raitt as an “aging redhead.” (Willie Nelson also, but he’s quite a bit older.)
by Anonymous | reply 378 | May 9, 2023 12:43 AM |
Hannah may be on her way to this season's Tournament of Champions.
by Anonymous | reply 379 | May 9, 2023 4:18 AM |
Hannah deserved that win; Kabul made me think of The Kite Runner, but I couldn't remember the later novel's title.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | May 9, 2023 4:21 AM |
I still believe Hannah is trans.
Have you ever seen a female give a triple fist pump like Hannah did after winning tonight?
by Anonymous | reply 381 | May 9, 2023 4:56 AM |
Hannah seems really sweet without Amy's ... assertiveness (male privilege, though I cringe at putting it that way).
by Anonymous | reply 382 | May 9, 2023 2:41 PM |
Maxim’s sitcom was cancelled, so she’s free to host more. Excited?
by Anonymous | reply 383 | May 9, 2023 7:16 PM |
What a stupid twat! For the millionth time, Jeopardy needs to teach a course on wagering, especially for women,
by Anonymous | reply 384 | May 9, 2023 10:37 PM |
Raquel, you idiot!
She could have easily won if she had wagered properly.
She didn’t even wager enough to win if Hannah had bet zero.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | May 10, 2023 1:04 AM |
That final bet goes down in the show annals as one of the most moronic!
by Anonymous | reply 386 | May 10, 2023 1:05 AM |
So, Hannah was cast as Lee Harvey Oswald in her high school production of Sondheim’s Assassins.
Hmm . . .

Omg! Super easy FJ.
C’mon!
by Anonymous | reply 388 | May 10, 2023 1:28 AM |
Where oh where did they get tonight's contestants ? From the sideshow at the circus ? What an odd bunch of people - including host Maxim Ballsack.
by Anonymous | reply 389 | May 10, 2023 4:08 AM |
They picked these people over me. How do you think that makes me feel?
by Anonymous | reply 390 | May 10, 2023 5:34 AM |
I can see Mayim as Sara Jane Moore.
by Anonymous | reply 391 | May 10, 2023 5:51 AM |
R391, only if Ken Jennings plays Sam Byck in your Assassins production. Byck doesn't get a song, but has those great monologues into his cassette recorder, dressed in a filthy Santa suit!
by Anonymous | reply 392 | May 10, 2023 10:31 AM |
I hope they stop choosing contestants from failed lab experiences. It doesn't make for good TV.

It's Judgment at Nuremberg.
Can't believe the judges let that pass. But he didn't come close to winning anyway.

Again, Hannah mentioned the wife.
When will it be revealed that Hannah was born male?
by Anonymous | reply 396 | May 11, 2023 12:45 AM |
I am shocked that they missed FJ. Australia seemed so obvious and easy.
OK, Hannah got her entry in the ToC. Maybe now she can go away.
by Anonymous | reply 397 | May 11, 2023 12:59 AM |
I caught that, too, R395. Juneteenth? I could've understood guessing MLK Day.
Got final right away although didn't think of the Oz states are separate colonies? Ones I knew they didn't: Gin and Tonic, franking, customs, The Secret Garden, Virginia Woolf, flamingo, Lady Chatterley's Lover.
Hannah seems to be benefiting from weak competition and buzzing in fast, although she dies have a broad range of knowledge.
by Anonymous | reply 398 | May 11, 2023 1:02 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 418 | May 12, 2023 10:33 PM |
If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would say this Hannah run has been completely contrived. They wanted what they wanted and they got it.
And she still should have lost in game three or four, except for a wager that was extremely puzzling.

Thanks for the heads-up, R415. I’ll skip tonight’s episode. Not a fan of Hannah.
by Anonymous | reply 420 | May 12, 2023 10:45 PM |
I noticed when Hannah's pronunciation of a name is incorrect, they give her the win anyway. When another opponent does the same thing, they say, "No, I'm sorry - that's wrong."
by Anonymous | reply 421 | May 12, 2023 10:52 PM |
Today’s episode is a disgrace. And I agree that they let Hannah get away with mispronunciation. I think she pronounced ex parte as ex partate today, but I could be wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 422 | May 12, 2023 11:16 PM |
You aren’t wrong R422. I heard it that way and replayed it and turned up the audio. She said partate. Even she knew it was wrong and seemed stunned to be ruled correct.
by Anonymous | reply 424 | May 12, 2023 11:19 PM |
Ben is back on Monday. I predict he will humble Hannah. Someone on Twitter keeps track of statistics for each game. Today the three contestants answered only 42 out of 60 questions correctly. On at least 11-12, they stood there like fools until the buzzer.

Have the Jeopardy! producers instructed Hannah not to reveal that she is trans so soon after Amy?

I guessed FJ correctly. Yay me
Who keeps rats as pets?
I kept pet rats as a pre-teen and everything Hannah said about them is true: they are sweet and very intelligent. One of my favorite rats (“Bonnie Ratt”) won first place in a rat contest and we were both featured in The Washington Post!
Hannah has a pleasing way about her and a wide range of knowledge. The other players have been awful. Was “Skyler” last night trans too? She was annoying with the giggle/laugh accompanying choosing a clue.
I liked the woman who owned an independent bookstore because she reminded me of someone I know.
by Anonymous | reply 431 | May 13, 2023 12:42 PM |
Dare I ask what goes in to choosing a champion rat? (Asking for a few of them in my neighborhood.)

If Hannah was not born male, I’ll eat my . . ,
by Anonymous | reply 433 | May 13, 2023 1:43 PM |
Since you asked, R432…
Bonnie was very sweet and licked my fingers and was very loving. When she did that to the judges, I knew she had won them over and that I would win.
On topic: I still can’t believe Australia was missed the other day.
I think Hannah mentioning that she played Lee Harvey Oswald in her high school production of “Assassins” was her way of “coming out” as trans. She’s not as showy about it as Amy and her tattoo stories.

No one knew Allen Ludden?
by Anonymous | reply 435 | May 13, 2023 2:42 PM |
I'm loving watching Hannah win. She's self-possessed but modest, easy-going, sweet, no weird habits or tics.....I mean, what's not to like?
Not sure if she was originally male but I do try to imagine her as a boy and think she must have been very cute. In any case, why would I hold her possible transitioning against her?
by Anonymous | reply 436 | May 13, 2023 2:48 PM |
I pray Ben wipes the floor with her.
by Anonymous | reply 437 | May 13, 2023 6:02 PM |
I'm surprised they won't wait until Hannah loses to bring back Ben as reigning champion. Maybe they asked him and he didn't care when he returned.

Michael Jackson even had a hit song for the movie theme when he was barely a teen.

I got that, R435. Read Betty's autobiography recently.
by Anonymous | reply 442 | May 14, 2023 3:11 AM |
You'd probably have to be at the very least 60 (like me) to know who Allen Ludden was. Though he was the host of the very popular game show Password, there was no reason to think of him after he passed, even as Betty White's husband. Her career didn't really take off until her widowhood.
by Anonymous | reply 443 | May 14, 2023 5:12 AM |
R443, Numerous Password reruns are shown every day on Buzzr.
Plus, Betty mentioned him in every interview she gave since he died.

“Her career didn't really take off until her widowhood.“
Allen Ludden died four years after The Mary Tyler Moore Show ended and she had already won multiple Emmys.

But nobody under 60 watches those reruns nor read those old interviews with Betty White, r444.

Oh, it won’t take much more. For his service in completely trouncing and easily dispatching Hannah I hope that he gets his five wins so he gets into the TOC, which I’m sure that he will. But, I get tired of almost all of the dominating champs who steamroll over their competitors. I prefer more evenly matched games — unless it’s a guy who is hot as hell, then he can flatten his opponents for all I care.

“Some sources revealed that Hannah Wilson is a transgender who identifies as a woman. The rumor heightened when the 2022 Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions winner Amy Schneider congratulated Wilson and welcomed her to “the Guild of Jeopardy Champion Trans Women.”
Despite multiple sources claiming Wilson to be transgender, she herself has not made a comment regarding it.
If she prefers to keep her gender out of the limelight, then the rest of us should respect her wish and should not spread baseless rumors about it.
Hannah has proved herself to be one of the viewers’ favorites regardless of her gender.
Her skills, composure, and intelligence have won money as well as people’s hearts.”

For Wednesday's category about British people, couldn't the last clue about AIDS awareness have been about Elizabeth Taylor? Does anyone really link Diana and AIDS that much?
by Anonymous | reply 521 | May 19, 2023 6:40 AM |
Taylor was born in England to American parents (thus was a dual citizen at birth) and left the UK for the US when she was 7. I don’t think she is described as “British,” at least not without an asterisk
by Anonymous | reply 522 | May 19, 2023 6:53 AM |
Google her. "British-American actress". Couldn't someone have argued that? Would the judges ruled against that?
by Anonymous | reply 523 | May 19, 2023 7:00 AM |
I thought of Diana immediately. The last ten years of her life was devoted to her public campaign in caring for AIDS patients, making physical contact with them while visiting them with her two sons,
Taylor posed for pictures, usually looking bewildered most of the time.

R524, Dame Elizabeth Taylor did more to battle the AIDS virus than Diana ever did.

Diana went to hospitals and embraced AIDS patients which no doubt reduced the public fear of contagion, but Liz raised a ton for research.

Elizabeth Taylor maintained dual citizenship throughout her entire adult life AND the Queen made her a Dame.

I like it when contestants stick with one category, lowest value clues to high, rather than jumping all over the board. I think that used to be more common, but I guess it could be a strategic disadvantage until the Daily Doubles have been found.

I've been watching the Masters Tournament this week, so haven't had time to watch the syndicated show until now.
I caught up on all 5 of this week's episodes in one sitting! Major mistake! Jeopardy! is not a show to binge like that. Best savored one show at a time with some time between shows. It felt like a chore to get all 5 watched instead of a pleasant distract from my day.
Because I was watching this week's shows, I got 5 doses of Ben. He is impressive! A really good player. He is also annoying. I was really sick of him by the time I was watching Friday's show. Was rooting for him to loose.
I will admit, my fondest for Ben began to wane when he announced Elaine as his wife. He was coming off as gay before that announcement. But the raising the roof gesture and mouthing "Hey mom" is also getting old. Maybe if I had been watching him one show per day, I might react better to him, but 5 episodes in a row of Ben was 4 too many!

In case you missed it..Link to Full Vulture article........ What is interesting is the CHANGES the E.P. wants to make...Buzzer Speed Data?. ----------->>My dream is to have a second-screen Jeopardy! experience. People could get live statistics throughout the show, such as buzzer-speed data and how many attempts contestants have tried to buzz in. The other thing I’m quite fixated upon is the game board. The huge advantage of watching this show in the studio while we’re filming is that we see the game board full. The speed of these games move so fast that I often lose track of what category we’re in. That’s the other feature I’d love to be able to offer on the second screen: the full game board. One of the things we’re experimenting with in the off-season is figuring out where, within the real estate of a full-screen clue, we can include the category title — or whether we go for a slightly different shot sequence before we reveal the clue so we can see which category it’s coming from."

She made the same mistake twice. Tsk.
by Anonymous | reply 559 | May 23, 2023 6:48 AM |
Ah, not so smart after all. I should have left you at a bus stop.
by Anonymous | reply 560 | May 23, 2023 11:17 PM |
Great game tonight!!
by Anonymous | reply 561 | May 24, 2023 12:05 AM |
Tell us about your love of cornholing, Lynne!
by Anonymous | reply 562 | May 24, 2023 12:08 AM |
fucking disgusting outfit the host has on! SO FUCKING UGLY!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 563 | May 24, 2023 12:23 AM |
OMG!
And I knew the correct FJ!!
by Anonymous | reply 564 | May 24, 2023 12:29 AM |
FJ: So Ben spelled it Benedict not Benedick? Is that what happened?
by Anonymous | reply 565 | May 24, 2023 12:31 AM |
I knew FJ, but I too probably would have written "Benedict" rather than "Benedick" and would have been ruled incorrect.
by Anonymous | reply 566 | May 24, 2023 12:32 AM |
I knew it was Benedick but sorta surprised that the judges didn't give it to Ben.
Yay, Lynne but I have a feeling she won't last long.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | May 24, 2023 12:37 AM |
I'm surprised but he'll be back for TOC.
by Anonymous | reply 568 | May 24, 2023 12:58 AM |
Whatever it took to get rid of him. And, yes, Lynne — who looks a little like Jane Curtain — will probably not last long.
by Anonymous | reply 569 | May 24, 2023 1:00 AM |
Ben didn't know dick.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | May 24, 2023 1:02 AM |
Oh, no, R567! That's exactly the kind of near-miss that gets NO sympathy from the judges.
Often, the champ's last night has a foreshadow vibe, although this one was damned close up to the last minute.
by Anonymous | reply 571 | May 24, 2023 1:04 AM |
Didn;t they bring that female contestant who had one or two letters left to write in FJ before time was up? I believe they gave her another chance.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | May 24, 2023 1:31 AM |
Lynn is a one day wonder if ever there was one.
by Anonymous | reply 573 | May 24, 2023 1:38 AM |
If contestants give a list of conversation topics to chat about, how dull must the others have been if "cornholing" was the best? Or did the producers just want to giggle?
by Anonymous | reply 574 | May 24, 2023 1:55 AM |
Yup, a misspelling.
He actually didn’t seem all that I to the game. He only came alive later on.
He was tired, maybe.
by Anonymous | reply 575 | May 24, 2023 2:04 AM |
I thought she looked just like Jane Curtin, too ! It clicked when she gave the answer "Third Rock From the Sun".
by Anonymous | reply 576 | May 24, 2023 3:09 AM |
Ben: Bye, Felicia!
by Anonymous | reply 577 | May 24, 2023 3:30 AM |
I think it was the right call to not give Ben credit.
It wasn't so much a spelling error as much as a pronunciation one.
I mean a dick isn't a dict.
As for ben, I I thought he was pleasant enough when he first started playing a while back, but I began to get tired of him after a few days, especially when I learned he was straight.
Between him on Jeopardy and James on the Masters Tournament, I've had more than enough of the both of them to last me a lifetime.
As for Lynn, she'll be lucky tomorrow if she remains with a positive score by the time DJ starts.
It wasn't so much a spelling error as much as a pronunciation one.
Seeing as how the Final Jeopardy answer is only written and not spoken, that's a very strange statement.
by Anonymous | reply 579 | May 24, 2023 3:45 AM |
R579 - The two are pronouned differently.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | May 24, 2023 3:50 AM |
Well, r579, to play devil's advocate, misspellings are often acceptable in FJ. Could Benedict be considered a misspelling of Benedick (just one letter off)?
Personally, I'd like to think the producers just wanted to get rid of Ben.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | May 24, 2023 4:22 AM |
Benedict Is not Benedick. It was a tough ruling, but I think it was the right one. Plus, there were a few times tonight where Mayim gave Ben a very large berth in terms of some of his answers. It almost sounded as if she was supplying the.correct responses. .
Personally, I'd like to think the producers just wanted to get rid of Ben.
I agree. That was my thought, too.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | May 24, 2023 4:27 AM |
Mayim seemed to be hesitating more often tonight than ever before.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | May 24, 2023 4:27 AM |
I said Benedict too and need to brush up my Shakespeare. I didn't know that Beatrice meant blessed either.
by Anonymous | reply 585 | May 24, 2023 5:28 AM |
R582, Ben responded “quahog” three different ways and Mayim accepted it.
by Anonymous | reply 586 | May 24, 2023 5:40 AM |
You allowed to misspell in FJ as long as your spelling results in the correct pronunciation.
by Anonymous | reply 587 | May 24, 2023 5:43 AM |
Ben was adding ad hoc commentary throughout the game and sucking up playtime. P
by Anonymous | reply 588 | May 24, 2023 12:15 PM |
They wouldn't accept "Romeo and Julie" even if it was only one letter off.
by Anonymous | reply 589 | May 24, 2023 1:14 PM |
It was the wrong answer, R589. Why would they “accept” it?
by Anonymous | reply 590 | May 24, 2023 1:48 PM |
[quote}There were a few times tonight where Mayim gave Ben a very large berth in terms of some of his answers. It almost sounded as if she was supplying the.correct responses. .
What do you mean by that?
by Anonymous | reply 591 | May 24, 2023 3:03 PM |
It really isn't up to Mayim to determine if an answer is right or wrong, is it?
by Anonymous | reply 592 | May 24, 2023 3:21 PM |
Matt Amodio said he's been living in Cambridge, MA for a number of years - and he couldn't get the DJ answer "Red maple trees' ? They are on every street in New England. There is probably one in front of his house.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | May 24, 2023 3:26 PM |
For final, if the judges can see the answers immediately that'd give them time to signal a problem early? I suspect Mayim waits a few seconds to give them time on clues, where Ken is more willing to rule right away, risking a later reversal.
I suspect Mayim waits a few seconds to give them time on clues, where Ken is more willing to rule right away, risking a later reversal.
But the thing is, Mayim sometimes pauses even when the contestant's response is 100 percent clearly correct. That's what I don't understand.
by Anonymous | reply 595 | May 24, 2023 3:40 PM |
What do you mean by that?
R591, please see R586, who supplied the information in a more precise and helpful manner than I did. Though I think there was at least one other instance early on in last night’s show where the same thing happened.
by Anonymous | reply 596 | May 24, 2023 4:34 PM |
Aside from the fact that mispronounced answers are frequently accepted, isn't the rule that if you pronounce an answer incorrectly but also correctly within the amount of time alloted for for the answer, you are ruled correct?
by Anonymous | reply 597 | May 24, 2023 4:37 PM |
Why did Ben cross put “Benedict” only to write the exact same thing underneath it? It seems like even he knew there was some issue with the spelling.
by Anonymous | reply 598 | May 24, 2023 4:53 PM |
R598, I'm thinking he realized "Benedict" wasn't quite right, so he crossed it out but then couldn't think of the correct spelling, so he just rewrote "Benedict."
by Anonymous | reply 599 | May 24, 2023 5:04 PM |
What a farce. Duuude. wake up you're on Jeopardy.
