Jeopardy! #37

Brandon, we hardly knew ye.

by Anonymousreply 600May 24, 2023 11:28 PM

It was MY character and performance that transformed that turgid three-hander into a complex family saga worthy of the Best Picture Oscar!! Forget Tandy, Freeman, and Dan fucking Ackroyd: I should have been nominated AND WON for "Driving Miss Daisy"!!!

by Anonymousreply 1April 6, 2023 5:45 AM

I'm pretty good with 80s and 90s Oscar trivia but FJ didn't come to me right away. I literally had to go through each year in my head before I finally figured out it was Miss Daisy - which of course was the last best picture of that decade. Side note: I almost went with Terms of Endearment and Rain Man but I knew neither one of those originated as plays.

by Anonymousreply 2April 6, 2023 6:22 AM

I could only think of Kiss of the Spider Woman and Children of a Lesser God, but neither fit the criteria.

by Anonymousreply 3April 6, 2023 6:35 AM

Teresa reminded me of Large Marge.

by Anonymousreply 4April 6, 2023 6:37 AM

Thanks for starting the new thread.

I also blanked on Miss Daisy for Final, which is ironic since Iloved that movie.

Not able to come up with anything else, I guessed On Golden Pond because it did win a few Oscars (which ones I couldn't recall) and has a small number of characters. I recalled there were more than three characters in the movie (I believe its six in the movie) but figured maybe a few of the movie characters were added when they opened up the play for the silver screen. But obviously I was wrong.

by Anonymousreply 5April 6, 2023 6:46 AM

I guessed Amadeus, which was a play in the 1980s and a Best Picture winner in 1985, and F. Murray Abraham did win Best Actor. It falls apart after that: there were nine characters not three, and no other Oscar winners.

by Anonymousreply 6April 6, 2023 7:33 AM

I thought of Children of a Lesser God also, R3.

No, Theresa wasn't trans. He called attention to the shiny suit!

by Anonymousreply 7April 6, 2023 11:29 AM

I wondered how I missed the Oscar-winning film version of Kenny Lonergan's "This Is Our Youth".

by Anonymousreply 8April 6, 2023 2:43 PM

Brian doesn’t like the Hitler jokes.

by Anonymousreply 9April 6, 2023 7:18 PM

WTF is going on with this show????

Dear casting folks…resign in shame! You suck at your jobs. It feels like they are trying to appeal to half-wits and slack-jawed yokels.

by Anonymousreply 10April 6, 2023 9:20 PM

Apparently Eliza’s Thorazine kicked in. 🙄

by Anonymousreply 11April 6, 2023 9:27 PM

I am now completely sick of Brian and I DESPISE that stupid fist-pump that he gives when he gets a correct answer.

Send someone who can spare us from him.

And, I had no idea that the answer to FJ was rhinestones. Talk about obscure.

by Anonymousreply 12April 6, 2023 11:58 PM

Be Arthur, Golden Girls, And Then There's Mod... Tonight's Jeopardy was sponsored by Brian and the DL!

by Anonymousreply 13April 7, 2023 12:14 AM

Honestly, he really does know his stuff. I can be as shallow as the next guy, and there's a better look for him than what we've seen. However, I think if he were a gay "hottie" folks here would be clamoring for his wins.

by Anonymousreply 14April 7, 2023 12:24 AM

Not if he behaved like he does MisterCocoa. Or should I say Brian.

If that is you, Brian, knock it the fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 15April 7, 2023 12:47 AM

Enjoy! SCTV and Half Wits! Hosted by Alex Trabell. Caution, I think the video defaults to no volume.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 16April 7, 2023 1:03 AM

FJ was a toughie!

by Anonymousreply 17April 7, 2023 2:27 PM

And no one on the Jeopardy team wanted to tell Brian his hideous suit's collar was all fucked up? Or is he too obese to find a jacket that fits?

by Anonymousreply 18April 7, 2023 3:00 PM

I figured Final had something to do with the Rhine River, but didn't get to rhinestones. Maybe if I'd had more time, I would have gotten there.

Brian's suit did not look good on my TV. I wonder what it looked like in person. He comes across as gay, but clearly didn't get the gay fashion gene.

I also wonder if any of the PAs ever take contestants aside and tell them their clothes won't look good on TV. Well, actually now that I think about it, I guess the answer is No. If any of the PAs were giving out clothing advise, surely they would also talk to Mayim about some of the things she wears on screen.

by Anonymousreply 19April 7, 2023 4:47 PM

Maxim’s wardrobe has improved.

I think they just didn’t like Brian so they let him go on TV like that.

by Anonymousreply 20April 7, 2023 5:25 PM

Seriously, what “material” are his suits made of? He sure likes ‘‘em shiny.

He also gives off a creepy pervert vibe.

by Anonymousreply 21April 7, 2023 5:46 PM

R21 "Sharkskin".... likely online, which explains the fit. Sewn by children in Bangla Deah.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 22April 7, 2023 6:06 PM

Maybe Sharkskin is all the fashion rage in Tennessee.

by Anonymousreply 23April 7, 2023 6:14 PM

A beautifully tailored sharkskin suit on a very fit guy looks great. I mean wear what you want obviously, but someone should break it to Brian that gentlemen who are more “amply proportioned” shouldn’t venture there.

The jacket collar area has looked horrid since his first appearance, so I believe it is the same with all the jackets that he brought with him.

by Anonymousreply 24April 7, 2023 8:48 PM

Let’s not forget the orange shirt and tie he first appeared in.

by Anonymousreply 25April 7, 2023 9:18 PM

Oh my…I nearly did a spit take at the end there. 🤣

by Anonymousreply 26April 7, 2023 9:33 PM

Today was a very good game. I thought it was going to a runaway, but turned out to be rather close when it was all said and done.

by Anonymousreply 27April 7, 2023 10:07 PM

Rachel ended up having Brian goosestep out of the game - although next Monday I'll be rooting for her to lose to the cute guy with the beard.

I gotta tell you, I initially didn't see Brian's resemblance to Hitler when he first started his reign of terror.

I was thinking more along the lines of Oliver Hardy because he's, you know, big.

by Anonymousreply 28April 8, 2023 12:41 AM

Brian just faded mid-game. Maybe he hit a wall.

by Anonymousreply 29April 8, 2023 1:38 AM

FJ was sort of easy. Not sure that any of the three deserved to win.

by Anonymousreply 30April 8, 2023 2:29 AM

So this is the official Jeopardy thread and the other one was just a We Hate Brian thread, I guess?

by Anonymousreply 31April 8, 2023 2:39 AM

Oh wait, this is a We Hate Brian thread, too.

by Anonymousreply 32April 8, 2023 2:39 AM

I no longer hate Brian. Destiny has taken care of the problem.

I don't hate Rachel. I kind of like her. I just think the FJ was pretty easy and she should have gotten (though her "Venezuela" was much closer than the other Ecuador, or, Brazil that that loathsome Brain guessed... um, oh...)

by Anonymousreply 33April 8, 2023 2:43 AM

I thought it was Colombia or Venezuela, but I guessed the wrong one.

by Anonymousreply 34April 8, 2023 4:27 AM

It’s back to the bunker for Herr Henegar.

How appropriate that he went out on Good Friday.

by Anonymousreply 35April 8, 2023 8:45 AM

Brian might have won if he hadn’t been so cocksure of himself when he messed up Rossini’s first name — which was completely unnecessary. If he had simply answered, “Rossini,” he would have kept the money and, depending on his bet in FJ, might have bested Rachel.

And, whenever he hears one of Rossini’s many overtures, I’ll bet he’s going to think about that. Oh, well . . . .

by Anonymousreply 36April 8, 2023 7:22 PM

Yes, his pretentious declaration of first names. done him in. Ha ha.

by Anonymousreply 37April 8, 2023 7:27 PM

Why did everyone dislike him so much? I don’t get it.

by Anonymousreply 38April 8, 2023 8:23 PM

R38, my husband likes everyone. He constantly gives people the benefit of the doubt. (Honestly it's exhausting.) But even he couldn't stand Brian. He said the fist pumping and the preening were over the top, and it made him look completely self-absorbed as well as a sore winner.

by Anonymousreply 39April 8, 2023 9:39 PM

R39: same here. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but by the end I came to the same conclusion.

by Anonymousreply 40April 8, 2023 9:54 PM

I guessed Venezuela for Final. And I still think that's an acceptable answer. The boundaries for the Caribbean Sea include the northern coast of South America, and Venezuela is part of the northern coast.

Here's what Wikipedia said about the boundaries:
It is bounded by Mexico and Central America to the west and southwest, to the north by the Greater Antilles starting with Cuba, to the east by the Lesser Antilles, and to the south by the northern coast of South America. The Gulf of Mexico lies to the northwest.

I never disliked Brian, don't understand the intense hatred of him displayed here. But at the same time, I kept shaking my head at his clothing choices, wondering if he lives somewhere without any mirrors. Similarly, don't they have any mirrors in the studio?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 41April 8, 2023 10:52 PM

R41, the equator doesn’t pass through Venezuela. That was part of the clue.

by Anonymousreply 42April 8, 2023 11:02 PM

If Brian lost 100 lbs and got some decent clothes, you bitches would have been all over him.

by Anonymousreply 43April 9, 2023 3:03 AM

Get real, contrarian cunt R43. He was pathetic physically, but even more so was his behavior. You know it. So you’re either a shit stirring twat or you’re Brian. 🤔

by Anonymousreply 44April 9, 2023 3:11 AM

Based on Brian's lengthy description, I think "guest services agent" really means "truck stop whore."

by Anonymousreply 45April 9, 2023 3:37 AM

I was OK with Brian the first night, but just OK. It was the second night that I found him smug and pretentious. The constant fist-pumping was obnoxious and over-the-top. Glad that he’s gone.

by Anonymousreply 46April 9, 2023 3:53 AM

I didn't know that Colombia stretched that far south...

by Anonymousreply 47April 9, 2023 4:56 AM

Most of South America is south of the Equator, so one of its northernmost countries would be likely to be on it.

by Anonymousreply 48April 9, 2023 12:02 PM

Yes, R47, the Colombian city of Leticia is on the Amazon.

by Anonymousreply 49April 9, 2023 1:17 PM

I thought "guest services" applied to hotel guests or something similar, like a concierge. But truckers? Tacky! Didn't Ken actually say something about helping truckers with their loads?

by Anonymousreply 50April 9, 2023 2:03 PM

He's a truck stop blow job queen!

by Anonymousreply 51April 9, 2023 5:25 PM

We can assume that he works at the TA Travel Center or the Pilot Travel Center – both truck stops – in nearby Pioneer, TN?

by Anonymousreply 52April 10, 2023 3:23 AM

Can we pick one thread?

by Anonymousreply 53April 10, 2023 7:48 AM

I thought of Colombia first, but discarded that guess based on the idea that Ecuador was south of Colombia. I forgot that a portion of it snaked around Ecuador. In fact, I had to look at a map to see that it also has a border with Peru.

by Anonymousreply 54April 10, 2023 8:55 AM

I want to be in P. J.’s physics class.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 55April 10, 2023 8:41 PM

Disappointed that PJ didn’t make it. The guy who won is OK. But I can see tiring of him rather quickly.

by Anonymousreply 56April 11, 2023 12:20 AM

Final seemed easy enough to me. Mauna Loa, pine tree, Cathay Pacific and senile ones I knew they didn't.

J. P. was, indeed, a total fox.

by Anonymousreply 57April 11, 2023 12:39 AM

R57, So was P. J.

by Anonymousreply 58April 11, 2023 12:59 AM

FJ was so easy! I mean, who else could it have been in Florida?

I think the new champ would be quite handsome with some aggressive re-styling. He has a nice smile.

by Anonymousreply 59April 11, 2023 1:16 AM

P.J. was a hottie :-)

by Anonymousreply 60April 11, 2023 2:36 AM

Final was obvious - former champ's Sowetans guess about the most cringe-worthy on the books. I did know Gozo was part of Malta.

by Anonymousreply 61April 12, 2023 12:11 AM

R61, The new champ’s Obama guess for FJ was also ludicrous.

by Anonymousreply 62April 12, 2023 12:44 AM

They might be the two most famous Africans in the whole world so how do you not know Nelson Mandela and Bishop Desmond Tutu??

Got it right away.

by Anonymousreply 63April 12, 2023 1:12 AM

Soweto was a dead giveaway. If you’re younger, maybe you wouldn’t know Desmond Tutu, but middle guy had no excuse,

by Anonymousreply 64April 12, 2023 1:22 AM

Yes, I thought that FJ was obvious with the Soweto part of the clue.

Yesterday’s champ faded quickly today in Double Jeopardy. I like Kat, that green hair notwithstanding.

by Anonymousreply 65April 12, 2023 3:20 AM

Right now I'm liking that no champ is succeeding more than 2 or 3 games. The change is welcome.

by Anonymousreply 66April 12, 2023 4:19 AM

Is the new champ a lezzy?

by Anonymousreply 67April 12, 2023 6:13 AM

I got FJ. I like the new champ. She seems cool and smart.

by Anonymousreply 68April 12, 2023 6:32 AM

R68, She’s not that smart. Her “Pollock” DD response was a wild guess, but it put her ahead.

I smell a possible one day wonder.

by Anonymousreply 69April 12, 2023 6:35 AM

She was great in certain categories, not so much in others. Some people know a lot of trivia in many different categories - others are more specialized in their trivia. We'll see how she is going forward. She has a very pleasant deep voice. (No vocal fry).

by Anonymousreply 70April 12, 2023 7:11 AM

And she likes wasps!

by Anonymousreply 71April 12, 2023 12:12 PM

I was fairly certain at the outset that she'd pull the non-binary crud (looking at YOU, Mattea!), but to her credit, no.

by Anonymousreply 72April 12, 2023 2:21 PM

She certainly knows her whales!

by Anonymousreply 73April 12, 2023 2:44 PM

Does she like WASPs?

by Anonymousreply 74April 12, 2023 2:49 PM

R67 I certainly hope so. It'd be a waste to look like that and not be a lesbian.

Yeah, FJ was astonishingly easy.

by Anonymousreply 75April 12, 2023 3:56 PM

You mean Obama never lived in Africa?

by Anonymousreply 76April 12, 2023 6:26 PM

Admitting that, yeah, I wanted a homo champ - yay!

Ummm ... Columbia is not the same as Colombia - dud question! My ex came out of the theater in tears years ago ñ after seeing Kathleen Chalfant in WIT; great performance! Isn't Xi pronounced Kai? I knew Labour were Liberals in Canada.

How R U, peeps?

by Anonymousreply 77April 13, 2023 12:05 AM

Is the new champ a homosexualist?

by Anonymousreply 78April 13, 2023 12:57 AM

Don't know, but he's very sweet.

by Anonymousreply 79April 13, 2023 2:02 AM

R78 He just happened to be sitting in a bar when Aaron Rodgers and his buddies came in.... That's enough to keep DL buzzing for weeks.

Hard to believe that no one knew the name of Trudeau's party.

by Anonymousreply 80April 13, 2023 2:14 AM

And the theatergoing fan couldn't come up with WIT?

by Anonymousreply 81April 13, 2023 2:18 AM

R81 She probably only counts [italic]shows[/italic], not plays!

by Anonymousreply 82April 13, 2023 2:30 AM

Nice comeback by the new champ. That $7,000.00 DD loss was a stinger.

by Anonymousreply 83April 13, 2023 3:14 AM

I was wrong on the Bill of Rights, but I know my Dorgis.

I really liked all three contestants!!!

by Anonymousreply 84April 13, 2023 3:55 AM

A “wild guess” of Pollock is a pretty smart wild guess.

by Anonymousreply 85April 13, 2023 5:02 AM

That Kenya guess, ooo boy

by Anonymousreply 86April 13, 2023 5:40 AM

Oh boy! Or should I say girl? Drag Queen Whiskey Ginger aka Kevin Belle is a contestant on Friday.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 87April 13, 2023 5:59 PM

And is it just me, or does Ken look a little nauseated?

by Anonymousreply 88April 13, 2023 6:00 PM

Sorry...That should be Friday, April 28.

by Anonymousreply 89April 13, 2023 6:02 PM

I didn’t like the condescending laughter about Pigeon Forge.

by Anonymousreply 90April 13, 2023 9:14 PM

Ben looks like a lesbian

by Anonymousreply 91April 13, 2023 11:57 PM

I have a Dr. Fell thing about the champ: I should like him I suppose, but I want him to go away. Guessed Hawaii for final, though knew it wasn't likely correct. However, I did know MY Old Kentucky Home.

by Anonymousreply 92April 14, 2023 12:00 AM

Ben is en fuego 🔥

by Anonymousreply 93April 14, 2023 12:22 AM

This new champ seems like an odd duck, but in a quirky, mostly non-offensive way. Still, if he left after a few days, I’d be good with that.

by Anonymousreply 94April 14, 2023 12:52 AM

R94, he rings in first at an impressive pace. He’s not going anywhere for quite a while. At least he doesn’t pump his fists and have Hitler hair and mustache.

by Anonymousreply 95April 14, 2023 1:14 AM

Is Ben gay ? I bet he's wild in bed.

by Anonymousreply 96April 14, 2023 1:27 AM

Ben is so cute

by Anonymousreply 97April 14, 2023 1:47 AM

There's something very sweet about Ben.

I think it's amusing that he comes across as rather pleasant, but he signs his name with an exclamation point.

by Anonymousreply 98April 14, 2023 2:45 AM

Ben! is very quirky charming in spite of the exclamation mark and the RESCUE DOGS shout-out. Liz's dead air story was pretty funny.

by Anonymousreply 99April 14, 2023 4:34 AM

I'm tired of Ben.

Missed final in guessing Dante, but did know Peter Cottontail, Ben-Hur, and Andorra.

by Anonymousreply 100April 15, 2023 12:14 AM

Ben is sweet and loveable hope he makes it to the players club

by Anonymousreply 101April 15, 2023 3:34 AM

Ben is fine by me, but enough with the all wordplay, anagram, and rhyming categories, at which I suck.

by Anonymousreply 102April 15, 2023 3:48 AM

Me too! Oh, and that woman's voice. Wasa cup of tea and a lozenge not available?

by Anonymousreply 103April 15, 2023 4:26 AM

R100 I couldn't believe they didn't guess Peter Cottontail. That was probably the easiest answer of the week.

by Anonymousreply 104April 15, 2023 3:19 PM

I thought of A Tale of Two Cities for final.

Good game with everybody involved.

by Anonymousreply 105April 18, 2023 12:32 AM

I really loved the older lady and was rooting for her. She did seem to have a chance of winning for awhile. FJ seemed very obvious to me after it was revealed, lol.

But all 3 contestants were pleasant, fun and smart and I'm happy with the winner who I assume is gay.

by Anonymousreply 106April 18, 2023 1:00 AM

New champ is homely.

by Anonymousreply 107April 18, 2023 1:31 AM

Homely is being polite, R107. I would call him a Zack Gallifinakis lookalike, with worse hair.

by Anonymousreply 108April 18, 2023 2:09 AM

So that's a hairstyle, yup. And that's not the face to have it, nope.

English Literature is a strong category for me... and I missed FJ.

by Anonymousreply 109April 18, 2023 2:28 AM

I did know final...I had often thought of this quote during my (awful) years in western Ohio.

by Anonymousreply 110April 18, 2023 3:43 AM

I guessed "The Pilgrim's Progress." Well done, Daniel.

Toni sounded like she was from Buffalo, not Chicago, to me.

by Anonymousreply 111April 18, 2023 3:50 AM

I thought Mayim was due back a couple of weeks ago? At this rate, she'll be on barely three months out of eleven.

by Anonymousreply 112April 18, 2023 6:25 AM

My understanding is that Mayim does the special tournaments and so forth, and Ken does the day -to-day shows, but that could be wrong.

by Anonymousreply 113April 18, 2023 8:00 AM

Me, too, r111!

by Anonymousreply 114April 18, 2023 12:08 PM

That’s a good thing, R112.

by Anonymousreply 115April 18, 2023 4:14 PM

There's that Jeopardy Masters tournament which starts on May 8 in prime time, but apparently Ken is hosting that rather than Mayim.

The Masters tournament features with Amy, Mattea and Matt plus Andrew He, Sam Buttrey and James Holzhauer.

The players will compete in various pairings throughout a three-week competition with 10 one-hour episodes featuring two games per episode.

It will air on ABC starting May 8 at 8 p.m. (EST). Will stream on Hulu.

by Anonymousreply 116April 18, 2023 4:38 PM

I prefer Mayim.

by Anonymousreply 117April 18, 2023 4:49 PM

What happened to Ben?!

by Anonymousreply 118April 18, 2023 4:50 PM

Ken mentioned that Ken was unable to travel to continue filming. He will be back later once he’s able to.

by Anonymousreply 119April 18, 2023 4:52 PM

Crushed by a Snow Cat.

by Anonymousreply 120April 18, 2023 4:53 PM

Crushed in a good way by Aaron Rodgers.

by Anonymousreply 121April 18, 2023 4:55 PM

Oh, sorry, meant Ben was unable to travel.

by Anonymousreply 122April 18, 2023 5:15 PM

According to some news report Ben fell ill and they decided that he would just come back in May.

by Anonymousreply 123April 18, 2023 8:33 PM

The new winner has a hairstyle like Mary Trump wore, back in the day.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 124April 18, 2023 8:44 PM

I’d like to see that make a comeback. Very flattering.

by Anonymousreply 125April 18, 2023 8:48 PM

R125 Trump's been trying for many years, as an homage to his mom.

by Anonymousreply 126April 18, 2023 8:50 PM

It's weird that James Holzhauer will continue competing with Ken as the new host. Doesn't that create some kind of conflict of interest since they competed against one another? James should retire from game play like many other all stars from the Trebek era have.

by Anonymousreply 127April 18, 2023 9:25 PM

I like Sam, but the rest of them? No thanks.

So, Mayim isn't hosting any regular games at all this season?

by Anonymousreply 128April 18, 2023 10:05 PM

Daniel is working on a satirical scripted podcast on the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. This is the most hipster thing I’ve ever heard in my life.

by Anonymousreply 129April 18, 2023 11:42 PM

They? Here we go again ...

Didn't get final, but knew janissaries, Grenoble, and Wars of the Roses.

by Anonymousreply 130April 18, 2023 11:59 PM

FJ was super easy!!

The best movie music composer EVER!!

I got the War of the Roses answer as well.

by Anonymousreply 131April 19, 2023 12:30 AM

So the new champ, who looks female. talks like a female and is a female, is really a 'they' ?

by Anonymousreply 132April 19, 2023 1:26 AM

The new. champ keeps shrugging as if she couldn't care less.

by Anonymousreply 133April 19, 2023 1:36 AM

They did have a rather strange attitude.

by Anonymousreply 134April 19, 2023 1:58 AM

R134 All of them? Oh, wait....

I think if someone wants a "neutral" pronoun, the person should use "it".... singular/plural distinctions are more than useful.

by Anonymousreply 135April 19, 2023 2:09 AM

Jeremy was brainy cute, but the chemistry chatter was boring.

I got John Le Carre and Rabelais, and was glad to see kind and patient DL fave Karen Grassle get some love.

by Anonymousreply 136April 19, 2023 4:09 AM

I’m only going to say this once.

Devin is mine, all mine, so hands off!

by Anonymousreply 137April 19, 2023 6:28 PM

It’s not fair for people with early access to J! to claim the hot contestants. I protest.

by Anonymousreply 138April 19, 2023 10:39 PM

Devin really is gorgeous. Glad he won.

FWIW, I got Final Jeopardy, and I'm not that knowledgeable of poetry.

by Anonymousreply 139April 19, 2023 11:37 PM

Devin is hot as hell. So glad that he got those two DDs, leapt into the lead, and won.
It’s not fair for people with early access to J! to claim the hot contestants. I protest.

You can look up the contestants in advance.

by Anonymousreply 140April 19, 2023 11:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 141April 20, 2023 12:01 AM

A question for our self-identifying lesbian friends ...

"They" seems to be very much a masculine female thing. Is it from a butch stigma among women? Are these people with vaginas bisexual? Or ... just a fad?

by Anonymousreply 142April 20, 2023 12:05 AM

You could have Devin, because I wanted Ben !

by Anonymousreply 143April 20, 2023 12:24 AM

Ben had zero personality.

by Anonymousreply 144April 20, 2023 12:38 AM

Deb is annoying

by Anonymousreply 145April 20, 2023 12:44 AM

Finally! An episode with three men!

by Anonymousreply 146April 20, 2023 1:11 AM

Deb seems like a good guy.

by Anonymousreply 147April 20, 2023 1:16 AM

What a dour group of Eeyores. At one point I felt like I was watching a Sprockets skit from SNL.

by Anonymousreply 148April 20, 2023 1:17 AM

Devin is movie star handsome.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 149April 20, 2023 1:28 AM

He is not. His face is crooked.

by Anonymousreply 150April 20, 2023 2:07 AM

He's not even porn star handsome. Dude is ugly.

by Anonymousreply 151April 20, 2023 2:15 AM

And his beige (what a horrible color!) tee shirt was all stretched out.

by Anonymousreply 152April 20, 2023 3:09 AM

I missed a lot, but got Paris Match and Thebes. I got FJ because I loved Woody Allen's book, "Without Feathers."

by Anonymousreply 153April 20, 2023 4:04 AM

Yes, please.

by Anonymousreply 154April 20, 2023 4:34 AM

R154, He’s absolutely flawless.

by Anonymousreply 155April 20, 2023 4:35 AM

r151, I want to live in your world, where he is considered ugly.

by Anonymousreply 156April 20, 2023 11:53 AM

I'm not a wagering genius by any means but the wagers for last night's FJ were really head-scratching. Maybe it's because poetry isn't my strong suit, but it made zero sense to me for Deb and Ben to bet all of their money. Deb didn't even try to cover Ben for second place, she just went all in. Not very strategic imho.

by Anonymousreply 157April 20, 2023 12:35 PM

Also, the judges should have asked Deb to specify her Deschanel answer. Zooey has an older sister Emily, but Ken ruled Deb correct without asking her to clarify which sister. I'm surprised she got away with that since previous players have been ruled incorrect for providing only a last name that can apply to more than one person.

by Anonymousreply 158April 20, 2023 1:05 PM

Yes, R157, terrible wagering by both Deb and third place guy. Either of them could have won, but they’re morons.

And Deb acted like they didn’t want to be there. They should have been replaced midway through the show by someone who enjoys being on fucking Jeopardy.

by Anonymousreply 159April 20, 2023 2:17 PM

R159, given the pronoun you used for Deb, did I miss some sort of announcement that this person is trans or non-binary? Whatever, I was thinking Deb looked more than a little like Rachel Dratch. And I too was put off by Deb's air of really not wanting to be there.

by Anonymousreply 160April 20, 2023 2:49 PM

Yes, R160. Ken consistently referred to Deb as they.

by Anonymousreply 161April 20, 2023 2:54 PM

Thanks, R161, I missed that. I still think "they" look like Rachel Dratch.

by Anonymousreply 162April 20, 2023 6:27 PM

r160, I read your post as: "...Deb's hair really not wanting to be there."

Which seemed totally apt.

by Anonymousreply 163April 20, 2023 7:30 PM

I must commend Ken on his consistently remembering to use "they/them" with the non-binary contestants.

It's one thing to say they/them while reading off the contestant's card during the introduction section. It's something else to remember to say they/them at the end of the game while determining who the winner is.

With everything else Ken has to keep up with in running the game, remembering someone's pronouns seems like something that could easily fall by the wayside.

by Anonymousreply 164April 20, 2023 7:46 PM

R164, if he messes up they’ll just have him say it correctly and edit it in. A friend recently attended a taping and Ken taped several corrections (none related to pronouns) at the end of the show.

by Anonymousreply 165April 20, 2023 8:41 PM

omg, this guy is such great hair! very cute

I'm Sam, my younger brother would be Devin. Same gene pool, couldn't look less alike.

by Anonymousreply 172April 20, 2023 11:59 PM

I haven't seen a cowl neck sweater on a guy ever in my life. Who dressed him ?

by Anonymousreply 173April 21, 2023 3:02 AM

LOVED bald Sam and really thought he'd win. Oh well.

by Anonymousreply 174April 21, 2023 3:31 AM

R173, It looked like Devin was wearing a dog cone.

by Anonymousreply 175April 21, 2023 3:34 AM

With those awful clothes the past 2 nights, Devin couldn't possibly be gay. Of course, he pulled them off....but still........

by Anonymousreply 176April 21, 2023 3:37 AM

R170, Despite losing, Devin came through on two difficult DDs.

His interview stories on both nights involved activities with another man, but still he didn’t move my gaydar needle.

by Anonymousreply 177April 21, 2023 3:38 AM

I guessed Googlesomething for FJ; tough one.

by Anonymousreply 178April 21, 2023 4:05 AM

As cute as Devin is, I hated the turtleneck on him. A cowl neck turtleneck?!?!?!?

Really liked Sam and thought he would win. Maybe he'll be back for Second Chances

I guessed Metaverse for Final purely because Facebook changed its name to Meta. Was stunned that it was right.

by Anonymousreply 179April 21, 2023 7:16 AM

FJ threw me off. I find it very hard to believe the term "metaverse" has only been around since 1992. As a comic geek, I know the term Multiverse has been around since the 1960s. You're telling me nobody came up with the term metaverse until 1992? Not buying it.

by Anonymousreply 180April 21, 2023 7:42 AM

Any Broadway Theatre fans on this thread? Devin could be the twin of SHUCKED, TOOTSIE and THE 39 STEPS hottie John Behlmann.

by Anonymousreply 181April 21, 2023 2:37 PM

R181, I think he looks exactly like a young Alan Ruck.

by Anonymousreply 182April 21, 2023 2:45 PM

Devin was stunning. Handsome, masculine, BDF. I’m sure he’s very well taken care of (by women or men, I wasn’t totally sure). He wasn’t too good with movies, music, or pop culture so I am leaning straight.

by Anonymousreply 183April 21, 2023 2:50 PM

Devin reminded me of Ed Fry who was on “As the World Turns” years ago.

by Anonymousreply 185April 21, 2023 3:12 PM

Gays typically do better in literary categories. We tend to read a lot.

by Anonymousreply 186April 21, 2023 3:19 PM

Got final as well as opium wars, Santa Cruz, Camino Real, and the Cricket on the Hearth.

Not all gay guys have film and pop culture as their knowledge base.

by Anonymousreply 187April 22, 2023 12:06 AM

I'm enjoying the current champ and her modest demeanor. Though I was rooting for Igor.

by Anonymousreply 188April 22, 2023 1:37 AM

I thought Igor would get FJ, but it was a good comeback win for the champ. Ken's outfit was very sharp.

by Anonymousreply 189April 22, 2023 3:52 AM
Not all gay guys have film and pop culture as their knowledge base.

No one has stated this on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 190April 22, 2023 3:46 PM

Anjali, the smug one in the middle, seemed so sure she was going to win.

I was also rooting for Igor.

by Anonymousreply 191April 22, 2023 3:50 PM

Here are the ones I knew that none of them did, which I mention here because I want to know whether they were obvious to other posters in this thread? I did guess Final. Albany and Boston are fairly low altitude and nowhere near Denver.

Cape provinces Stratego Strawberry Fields Forever Goodwill ambassadors Secretariat building

by Anonymousreply 192April 25, 2023 1:03 AM

The new champ probably had the best day he'll ever have.

by Anonymousreply 193April 25, 2023 1:09 AM

Three boring players tonight . . . zzzzzzzzz.

by Anonymousreply 194April 25, 2023 1:25 AM

Albany and Boston was possibly the stupidest FJ answer of all time.

by Anonymousreply 195April 25, 2023 2:04 AM

I thought it was Santa Fe and Salt Lake City.

by Anonymousreply 196April 25, 2023 2:08 AM

The answer, R195, was as fucking stupid as her name.

by Anonymousreply 197April 25, 2023 2:17 AM

I guessed Sante Fe and Carson City.

by Anonymousreply 198April 25, 2023 4:00 AM

Santa Fe and Helena.

by Anonymousreply 199April 25, 2023 5:31 AM

R195 I thought the same thing. What the hell was she thinking ?

by Anonymousreply 200April 25, 2023 1:17 PM

I knew Final but I know US geography.

The Albany to Boston person doesn't know US geography and just put down an answer because she had to write something as time was ticking away. She knew it was wrong when she wrote it.

Monday seemed like an especially easy game to me. Was surprised at how many the contestants didn't guess at or guessed wrong. I also knew Stratego, "Strawberry Fields Forever," "She Love You," Goodwill ambassador and several others.

I was also surprised the judges let "Something in the way she moves me," pass when the song title is just "Something." .

by Anonymousreply 201April 25, 2023 5:18 PM

The judges are getting soft.

by Anonymousreply 202April 25, 2023 5:23 PM

I liked the Canadian frau

by Anonymousreply 203April 25, 2023 5:30 PM

I'm not that charitable, R201, as the clue pointedly stated the capitals were near Denver. Anyone "qualified" to be a contestant should realize that Boston is at sea level.

by Anonymousreply 204April 25, 2023 6:41 PM

I live near I-25 so I knew Santa Fe right away. Didn’t have a clue about the other city. I thought about Austin, briefly, but it wasn’t right.

by Anonymousreply 205April 25, 2023 7:31 PM

Interstates that run north/south are odd-numbered and ones that run east/west are even-numbered. It wasn’t a difficult question if you don’t panic.

by Anonymousreply 206April 25, 2023 7:42 PM

R206 And I believe the lowest numbers start on the west coast and gradually increase to the east coast, where we have I - 95 (which runs through Boston and NY). So that would put I-25 closer to the west coast than what she guessed.

by Anonymousreply 207April 25, 2023 9:05 PM

I ran The Beatles category. Good thing I did, I'd be mortified otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 208April 25, 2023 9:10 PM

R208, are you Yoko?

by Anonymousreply 209April 25, 2023 9:12 PM

Tonight had to be one of the easiest FJs ever!

by Anonymousreply 210April 25, 2023 11:28 PM

New champ reminds me of Margaret Shelton a bit.

Got final though I thought Magnum and 5-0 were further apart.

Joyce Kilmer wrote Trees, KC was a bit tricky as I believe it's KCMO and KCKS, no? I guessed Trappists, but associate them with jam more than beer?

by Anonymousreply 211April 26, 2023 12:15 AM

Joyce Kilmer was a man, baby.

by Anonymousreply 212April 26, 2023 12:26 AM

Could not get FJ at all. I’m so ashamed. 😫☺️

by Anonymousreply 213April 26, 2023 12:59 AM

The clue in FJ was that another 'long running drama had ended'. And two of them guess the sitcom MASH ? Do they not know what a drama is ?

by Anonymousreply 214April 26, 2023 2:28 AM

Easiest FJ in a while, I thought. And all three had played a strong game and totally whiffed on FJ. Sometimes ya jest don't know, eh?

by Anonymousreply 215April 26, 2023 2:31 AM

R214, although MASH had some sit-com elements, I don't think anyone but you would describe it as a sit-com.

by Anonymousreply 216April 26, 2023 3:20 AM

Book all three of 'em, Dano.

by Anonymousreply 217April 26, 2023 3:51 AM

R216 You're wrong once again ! Wiki describes it as a sitcom, and it won an Emmy for 'Best Comedy Series' during it's 11 year run, while it's cast won numerous Emmys in the 'Best Acting in a Comedy Series' during that 11 year run.

R218, Didn’t it have a laugh track?

by Anonymousreply 219April 26, 2023 12:52 PM

R219 It did. But R215 saw it as a drama.

by Anonymousreply 220April 26, 2023 12:54 PM

“Like most TV comedies of the time, M*A*S*H made use of a “laugh track,” generally pre-recorded sounds of an audience giving the desired reaction to the jokes. There was some uncertainty about taking this approach on M*A*S*H, given that the show was set in a war zone and regularly dealt with life-or-death scenarios.

It was agreed that it would be inappropriate for laughter to ever be included during scenes in the surgery room, even when jokes are made, so no laugh track was ever added to these sequences.“

by Anonymousreply 221April 26, 2023 12:56 PM
"M*A*S*H always had a complicated relationship with its laugh track, and here's why it finally ditched it towards the end of its run. M*A*S*H was originally a novel by author Richard Hooker - based on his experiences as a doctor in the Korean War - before being adapted into an acclaimed Robert Altman movie. The M*A*S*H TV show started as more of a sitcom, focusing on the hijacks of Alan Alda's "Hawkeye" Pierce and Wayne Rogers' "Trapper." It later became a dramedy, dialing back the wackiness to explore the toll the war took on its characters, including their trauma and PTSD."
M*A*S*H broke new ground for future shows and became one of the first sitcoms to challenge the laugh track. Considering the setting, showrunners Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds didn't want a laugh track at all, considering it inappropriate. Since comedies of the era almost always came with one, they were overruled. That said, CBS agreed to drop the track over operation room sequences. The laugh track used in M*A*S*H was also more subdued and became quieter in later seasons. More dramatic episodes like season 4 finale "The Interview" dropped it entirely, and by the final season, nearly every episode was laugh track free.

Tuesday was a great game. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Final seemed especially easy to me. Surprised non of the contestants got it. But getting the right answer required knowing Magnum was filmed in Hawaii which apparently none of them did.

by Anonymousreply 223April 26, 2023 5:04 PM

“But getting the right answer required knowing Magnum was filmed in Hawaii which apparently none of them did.”

Ian, the retired broadcaster, should have known that.

by Anonymousreply 224April 26, 2023 6:22 PM

I knew Magnum was filmed in Hawaii but I blanked on other shows set and filmed there.

by Anonymousreply 225April 26, 2023 6:45 PM

You had to be a fan of the original Magnum PI to know the answer - I never watched a single episode, so I wouldn't have known.

by Anonymousreply 226April 26, 2023 7:35 PM
You had to be a fan of the original Magnum PI to know the answer - I never watched a single episode, so I wouldn't have known.

I never watched Magnum PI either but I knew it was set in Hawaii thanks to the commercials that ran on CBS each week.

by Anonymousreply 227April 26, 2023 7:39 PM

Yeah, and all those Hawaiian shirts Tom Selleck wore might have been a clue.

by Anonymousreply 228April 26, 2023 8:13 PM

FJ was so hard but I knew it!

Couldn't believe no one knew Women In Love, Robin Williams (in The Fisher King) and....something else I've now forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 229April 26, 2023 11:30 PM

No one knew Carol Burnett on her 90th birthday?

FJ was super easy for me, but I’m a fan of Old Hollywood.

Team Jesse, here.

by Anonymousreply 230April 26, 2023 11:44 PM

Not surprised that Jesse is married.

I am surprised that it is to a woman.

by Anonymousreply 231April 26, 2023 11:52 PM

Yeah, how embarrassing that no one knew Carol Burnett! Especially tonight.

by Anonymousreply 232April 26, 2023 11:58 PM

R231, Jesse did not move my gaydar needle one bit.

by Anonymousreply 233April 27, 2023 12:23 AM

I didn't get those three answers myself, nor Final.

Did know that Sobieski was Polish, as well as Unilever (pointed clue there), Black Hole of Calcutta and somehow guessed javelina at the last minute.

How sweet that the champ and his wife bonded over Jeopardy!

by Anonymousreply 234April 27, 2023 12:28 AM

Some of those missed answers were beyond sad. Especially since some were old enough to know!

Robin Williams? Carol Burnett???

Warner Brothers??

by Anonymousreply 235April 27, 2023 12:30 AM

Oh, Jesse was smelling cookies all right. Probably from a religious family.

by Anonymousreply 236April 27, 2023 1:10 AM

I thought so as well, R236. But, chalked it up to another ping'ing het boy like other previous winners.

by Anonymousreply 237April 27, 2023 1:49 AM
Did know that Sobieski was Polish

Geez - none of the contestants guessed Poland ? Could it have been a more Polish name for them ?

by Anonymousreply 238April 27, 2023 1:53 AM

These contestants are getting dumber and dumber. Marco Polo? The Marx Brothers?

I thought FJ was very easy.

by Anonymousreply 239April 27, 2023 2:10 AM

Jesse is adorable. So glad to see a cute guy again.

by Anonymousreply 240April 27, 2023 2:11 AM

Before Jesse even opened his mouth, I presumed he was gay.

On the other hand it's been a while since the show had a straight guy who activated my gay-dometer, so someone like him was a bit overdue.

I has no idea about FJ.

by Anonymousreply 241April 27, 2023 2:15 AM

Jesse's beard could use a good trim.

by Anonymousreply 242April 27, 2023 2:40 AM

Missing Thomas Cromwell from a Hilary Mantel clue was a shock to me.

by Anonymousreply 243April 27, 2023 3:24 AM

And to guess Marco Polo, r243?!?

by Anonymousreply 244April 27, 2023 3:27 AM

Good game. I liked all three contestants. And yes, Jesse does come across as family.

Although I initially said Marx for Final, I decided Warner was a better answer. Obviously it was.

by Anonymousreply 245April 27, 2023 4:06 AM

I’m surprised Jesse didn’t giggle at “Tops and Bottoms.”

by Anonymousreply 246April 27, 2023 6:23 AM

by Anonymousreply 250April 27, 2023 11:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 251April 27, 2023 11:38 PM

R250, Eric is quite handsome.

by Anonymousreply 252April 27, 2023 11:41 PM

Eric is adorable. The answer to FJ was somewhat obscure, so kudos to him for getting it.

by Anonymousreply 253April 27, 2023 11:58 PM

Eric will be wearing a funky sweater tomorrow. I’m intrigued.

by Anonymousreply 254April 27, 2023 11:59 PM

Makes sense that Jesse would marry his gal pal if his family were that redneck. Eric's pecs were impressive!

Guessed Suleyman for final knowing timing was likely off.

Anyone else get: buttery, Iolani Palace, boater, Heliopolis, and the give-away answer Kaiser Wilhelm?

by Anonymousreply 255April 28, 2023 12:14 AM

Boater was beyond easy AF.

by Anonymousreply 256April 28, 2023 12:21 AM

I guessed Genghis Kahn too. There were lots of answers in the bio section that seemed ridiculously easy.

by Anonymousreply 257April 28, 2023 1:00 AM

Another Genghis Kahn guess for me.

by Anonymousreply 258April 28, 2023 1:31 AM

I guessed El Cid, and am impressed Eric got Saladin. I did get Kaiser Wilhelm, and will miss cute Jesse.

by Anonymousreply 259April 28, 2023 4:31 AM

I was thinking Saladin, but I said Suleyman

by Anonymousreply 260April 28, 2023 4:36 AM

Less sure about Jesse day two. Oh, well. 👋👋

by Anonymousreply 261April 28, 2023 5:22 AM

Jesse was a wisp of a thing; swept away by the stronger currents of history.

Kaiser Bill was pretty easy. I guessed Kabir instead of Saladin, which was silly.

by Anonymousreply 262April 28, 2023 3:43 PM

Wow. The level of competition is really abysmal at the end of the season. FJ is something every American 8 year old would know. Terrible!

by Anonymousreply 263April 28, 2023 10:17 PM

My Jeopardy has been replaced tonight by the NFL Draft!!

by Anonymousreply 264April 28, 2023 11:25 PM

R264, YouTube is your friend.

by Anonymousreply 265April 28, 2023 11:27 PM

R274 - if you live in the NY metro area, it'll be on 3:35 AM.

by Anonymousreply 266April 29, 2023 12:07 AM

Oops - meant R264 above.

by Anonymousreply 267April 29, 2023 12:08 AM

Because tonight’s Jeopardy episode was preempted by the NFL draft, I had to find it online. I’ve been successful of late by using Google and plugging in the full day and date. Even though Google pulls up the episodes on YouTube, going to YouTube and doing a search doesn’t necessarily direct me to the current day’s episode.

Sadly, adorable Eric got bested by a sometimes drag Queen from the DC area. Eric was cute, but generally in over his head; he was a potted plant for most of Double Jeopardy.

Shocked that none of the contestants got what I thought was an exceptionally easy FJ: President Ford in (1975), (so at the start of the Bicentennial), hung three lanterns in what space? Not sure how they all missed the Old North Church, which seemed very obvious.

by Anonymousreply 268April 29, 2023 12:10 AM

The complete episode is up at YouTube. Go watch it now as there are going to be lots of spoiler comments I believe.

by Anonymousreply 269April 29, 2023 12:14 AM

I got FJ before Ken finished reading the clue. Maybe it helped that I’m a native Bostonian and Paul Revere rode through my home town.

by Anonymousreply 270April 29, 2023 12:15 AM

Jeopardy should move to a different affiliate/network.

by Anonymousreply 271April 29, 2023 12:26 AM

Nobody knew William Holden or Out of Africa.

by Anonymousreply 272April 29, 2023 12:58 AM

R268, How can you be a drag queen with a full beard?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 273April 29, 2023 1:03 AM

I got Final, and Out of Africa (though not William Holden). Knew Tevye, Androcles, Yucatan ... and the one our drag champ blew, Wizard of Oz! Shocking!

by Anonymousreply 274April 29, 2023 1:04 AM

I think even if because of the lantern mentioned in the clue I'd connected "One if by land, two if by sea" and Paul Revere and Boston, I still couldn't have come up with that specific location. But I guessed Bunker Hill so maybe I wasn't too far off?

I'll miss cute Eric (and that sweater!). He was always so sweet in acknowledging his competitors' successes on both days. Do we suppose he's gay?

by Anonymousreply 275April 29, 2023 2:05 AM

My unenlightened guess was Beacon Hill. Katherine reminded me a bit of Jodie as Clarice Starling, only she smiled more.

by Anonymousreply 276April 29, 2023 4:14 AM

Was Eric wearing large Band-Aids on his sweater?

by Anonymousreply 277April 29, 2023 7:44 AM

I inferred that, R275. Instead of wife/gf he talked of his grandparents.

by Anonymousreply 278April 29, 2023 8:21 AM

R275, Would a gay man have been caught dead in that sweater?

by Anonymousreply 279April 29, 2023 8:50 AM

Yes. I thought it was cute.

by Anonymousreply 280April 29, 2023 12:16 PM

Eric's sweater was part of the costume he wore in GODSPELL at his high school in 1973.

by Anonymousreply 281April 29, 2023 2:06 PM

R281, Then he would be nearing 70 years old.

by Anonymousreply 282April 29, 2023 2:30 PM

Eric was wearing a sweater he found at Good Will, which was donated by Bill Cosby from his 80s sweater collection.

I guessed OIT OF AFRICA and WILLIAM HOLDEN, did not guess FJ - and I'm from RI, was 12 during the Bicentennial.

We shall see how the new champ Miss Ginger Whiskey does on Monday, when Myown Ballsack returns as host.

by Anonymousreply 283April 29, 2023 2:34 PM

The Masters tournament which starts in another week will be 10 one hour episodes.

by Anonymousreply 284April 29, 2023 2:57 PM

I knew William Holden, Out of Africa, Androcles, Wizard of Oz and several more that the contestants missed.

I couldn't think of anything for Final, so I guessed Statue of Liberty.

by Anonymousreply 285April 29, 2023 10:48 PM

The old hag’s voice is grating.

by Anonymousreply 286May 2, 2023 2:22 AM

Another win for Ginger Whiskey, though I was rooting for Cyrus - he was a cutie.

by Anonymousreply 287May 2, 2023 2:24 AM

Ginger is a careful player. Rarely buzzes without knowing the answer. And bets very modestly.

I like him. I liked all 3 tonight. Everyone here is so bitchy.

by Anonymousreply 288May 2, 2023 2:46 AM

I liked all three too. Maryhelen seemed to be channeling late career Greer Garson. FJ was tricky and fooled me into guessing Candide...

by Anonymousreply 289May 2, 2023 4:04 AM

I felt Cyrus gave one of the most awkward, cringe-worthy interviews. Ginger is, indeed, cute ... and married it seems. As soon as the divided island category appeared I had a feeling St. Martin would be an answer. Was surprised at Maryhelen's husband, figuring her spouse would have been another former nun.

by Anonymousreply 290May 2, 2023 11:22 AM

“Maryhelen seemed to be channeling late career Greer Garson” is a sentence that can only ever be found on Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 291May 2, 2023 1:17 PM

“I felt Cyrus gave one of the most awkward, cringe-worthy interviews.”

It was rambling, boring and senseless.

by Anonymousreply 292May 2, 2023 1:42 PM

Guessed Daniel Defoe for FJ.

That was a hard one, what was the Biblical reference that related to Gulliver?

by Anonymousreply 293May 2, 2023 2:41 PM

First name "Lemuel" is derived from "devoted to God" in Hebrew. (I had to look this up.)

by Anonymousreply 294May 2, 2023 2:46 PM

FJ was hard.... I misheard or misunderstood the question - "Lemuel" is not in the title and I was trying to think of titles. I liked MaryHelen a lot - perky old broad - but Jude the Obscure was published in 1895... pretty far from "18th Century"

by Anonymousreply 295May 2, 2023 2:55 PM

I got FJ right away, not because I'm brilliant, but because Jeopardy often uses Gulliver's Travels as a response.and there aren't that many well-known 18th century novels.. .

by Anonymousreply 296May 2, 2023 3:00 PM
Guessed Daniel Defoe for FJ.

Why? They specifically asked for the name of a novel.

by Anonymousreply 297May 2, 2023 8:05 PM

I stand corrected. They asked for a character name, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 298May 2, 2023 8:10 PM

Yes, they asked for the title character; tricky because it helps to know his first name, too.

by Anonymousreply 299May 2, 2023 10:12 PM

Yeah, I got confused about what they were looking for, book title or author. At first I thought Daniel Deronda (both a title and a character) but then remembered it was written in the 19th century......but kept the Daniel part when I moved onto Daniel Defoe.

by Anonymousreply 300May 2, 2023 10:29 PM

I’m surprise the librarian picked an obviously wrong Jude the Obscure.

by Anonymousreply 301May 2, 2023 10:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 302May 2, 2023 10:42 PM

A homosexualist champion on Jeopardy and another WOF winner on the same day.

Where are the earthquakes?

by Anonymousreply 303May 3, 2023 12:08 AM

Damnit. I said tuberculosis.

by Anonymousreply 304May 3, 2023 12:29 AM

That female contestant was pretty stupid, and kept buzzing in when she obviously wasn't sure she had the right answer, because most of the answers she gave were wrong. I was surprised she made it to FJ.

by Anonymousreply 305May 3, 2023 12:32 AM

I couldn't believe the ridiculous answers they were giving for 'Double Double Letters' . Didn't they understand the category ? Some of the answers they spat out (especially the green hair woman) didn't have any double letters in them.

by Anonymousreply 306May 3, 2023 12:34 AM

I could have stood there for 10 years and never come up with "pertussis."

by Anonymousreply 307May 3, 2023 1:34 AM

R306, as I noted, she really seemed quite stupid. I thought she would never get out of hole in Jeopardy!, then she managed to climb out of it with the help of a Daily Double -- and then, a minute or two later, she was back in negative number territory. Amazing that she made it to FJ.

by Anonymousreply 308May 3, 2023 2:45 AM

FJ seemed obvious. It could either have been the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine or DPT — diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus. Of those six diseases only whooping cough — pertussis — is a respiratory illness.

by Anonymousreply 309May 3, 2023 2:47 AM

Since I don’t know what diphtheria is, I said diphtheria. At least I got the right vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 310May 3, 2023 5:19 AM

CDC: “Diphtheria is a serious infection caused by strains of bacteria called Corynebacterium diphtheriae that make toxin. It can lead to difficulty breathing, heart rhythm problems, and even death.

“Difficulty breathing” sounds respiratory.

by Anonymousreply 311May 3, 2023 5:21 AM

Why isn't tonight's episode up on youtube?

by Anonymousreply 312May 3, 2023 6:09 AM

I did know pertussis, because I had my tetanus booster lately with that protection included.

by Anonymousreply 313May 3, 2023 12:12 PM

Growing up, this was always in our house.

by Anonymousreply 314May 3, 2023 12:29 PM

Ken Jennings was supposed to host a forum last night at one of our local universities on the subject of "AI". It's been advertised for months, and tickets sold out. This weekend, it was canceled - seems Jennings tested positive for COVID late last week. It's now rescheduled for later this month.

by Anonymousreply 315May 3, 2023 3:55 PM

Ridiculously easy FJ today.

Oh, and I’ve had more than sufficient of Mayim. It’s a completely different show with her hosting.

by Anonymousreply 316May 3, 2023 10:13 PM

Is Hannah trans?

Well, is she?

by Anonymousreply 317May 3, 2023 10:41 PM

R316, The pauses, as she obviously turns to the judges for approval, are annoying.

by Anonymousreply 318May 3, 2023 10:44 PM

I’m wondering the same thing. I would say yes.

by Anonymousreply 319May 3, 2023 11:36 PM
I’m wondering the same thing. I would say yes.

That makes three of us. I’d say yes as well.

by Anonymousreply 320May 3, 2023 11:54 PM

Is the new champ (yet another) trans?

by Anonymousreply 321May 3, 2023 11:59 PM

I'm beginning to think Mayim is trans. Sheldon Cooper went under the knife.

by Anonymousreply 322May 4, 2023 12:52 AM

Wasn't easy for the losers.

by Anonymousreply 323May 4, 2023 12:59 AM

I was disappointed they didn’t know Clarence Clemons or Charlie Parker. And the previous champ thought Louis Armstrong played the sax.

by Anonymousreply 324May 4, 2023 1:45 AM

I had no idea for FJ. I like John C. Reilly, but missed half of those too. Mayim's hair and glasses looked good tonight.

by Anonymousreply 325May 4, 2023 3:56 AM

Mayim looks like she has lost a bit of weight

by Anonymousreply 326May 4, 2023 4:00 AM
I’ve had more than sufficient of Mayim. It’s a completely different show with her hosting.

And, as I may have mentioned before, I really hate it that they introduce her as "the host of Jeopardy!" which makes it sound like there is only one host, when of course there are two. "Hosting Jeopardy!" is more accurate.

by Anonymousreply 327May 4, 2023 4:06 AM
I really hate it that they introduce her as "the host of Jeopardy!" which makes it sound like there is only one host, when of course there are two.

That’s exactly the same thing they now say when introducing Ken Jennings.

by Anonymousreply 328May 4, 2023 4:12 AM

I couldn't stand listening to Hannah as she gave her answers - such a monotone, dull woman. Can you imagine being married to her and listening to her every day ?

by Anonymousreply 329May 4, 2023 1:06 PM

r329, I found Hannah just the opposite. Very vivacious and appealing.

by Anonymousreply 330May 4, 2023 1:39 PM

R330, And sexuality questionable.

by Anonymousreply 331May 4, 2023 2:32 PM

I would like to have seen Dan win on Wednesday's (May 3rd) show.

by Anonymousreply 332May 4, 2023 2:58 PM

Ginger was off her game Wednesday night, she just faded away.

by Anonymousreply 333May 4, 2023 3:04 PM

R330 i think i heard Hannah said she had a wife

by Anonymousreply 334May 4, 2023 4:09 PM

R334, That’s a man, baby.

by Anonymousreply 335May 4, 2023 4:17 PM

Who is Hannah Wilson?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 336May 4, 2023 4:24 PM
That’s exactly the same thing they now say when introducing Ken Jennings.

I still think it doesn't sound right. And I don't understand why, for such a long time, Ken was introduced differently (and more accurately) as "hosting Jeopardy!" but then it changed to the more inaccurate phrase "THE host of Jeopardy!"

by Anonymousreply 337May 4, 2023 4:48 PM

Oh my. Didn't realize "hannah" was a man

by Anonymousreply 338May 4, 2023 4:55 PM

With the Jeopardy Masters tournament starting on Monday, should we create a new thread to discuss those games?

Or do we want to discuss the Masters tournament and the daily game in the same thread?

by Anonymousreply 339May 4, 2023 6:08 PM

Wow! That will be 90 minutes of Jeopardy! each day for two weeks.

I don't know I'm going to have time to keep up with all that each day.

by Anonymousreply 340May 4, 2023 6:10 PM

I can’t decide.

by Anonymousreply 341May 4, 2023 6:10 PM

I think we need a sperate thread, R339. That would make it easier to post and address certain players.

by Anonymousreply 342May 4, 2023 7:43 PM

I think separate threads are better.

I'll be watching the Masters games each night, but may not have a chance to watch all the daily games until the weekend.

I would prefer not to have discussion of the two different games to overlap on the same thread when I may not have had a chance to watch the daily game.

by Anonymousreply 343May 4, 2023 8:02 PM

R336, Hannah is even more masculine in her second Jeopardy! appearance.

by Anonymousreply 344May 4, 2023 9:10 PM

Don’t know if any of you watch other trivia type shows, but I’ve noticed some really suspicious (nearly exact) questions on Jeopardy and on Switched and Split Second on GSN. Clearly they have a writer(s) who is providing the same questions to different shows. That person needs to get his ass fired. It’s happened at least four or five times in the last couple of weeks.

by Anonymousreply 345May 4, 2023 9:38 PM

I know I sound like a broken record, but good fucking god, where are they getting these shit contestants??? I lost count, it had to have been a dozen or more clues that I knew that they got wrong or just stood there like bumps on logs.

by Anonymousreply 346May 4, 2023 10:11 PM

This show cannot find HOT guy players but they can find plenty of THEMS.

by Anonymousreply 347May 4, 2023 11:20 PM

I loved Hannah on Kids In the Hall.

by Anonymousreply 348May 4, 2023 11:46 PM

Mayim looked adorable in today’s episode. Finally some good styling for her.

by Anonymousreply 349May 4, 2023 11:59 PM

As we've said before, it's tough to beat a crossword champ.

by Anonymousreply 350May 5, 2023 12:36 AM

I was rooting for Marie Claude. She had such a nice accent.

by Anonymousreply 351May 5, 2023 1:49 AM

Yeah, Hannah, the super fast crossword champ is going to be hard to get rid of. And the two challengers tonight were lovely people, but clearly were not up to the task.

by Anonymousreply 352May 5, 2023 1:53 AM

Poor Marie-Claude never had a chance, even if Mayim used her best high-school French to pronounce her name.

by Anonymousreply 353May 5, 2023 12:47 PM

Go Hannah! Love her.

by Anonymousreply 354May 5, 2023 2:34 PM

Great show tonight. None of them were on fire but the champ had some decent competition. And a difficult but clever FJ.

by Anonymousreply 355May 5, 2023 11:36 PM

Yeah, tonight was a good game. And it showed that Hannah, when up against decent competitors, doesn’t dominate the way she did last night.

by Anonymousreply 356May 6, 2023 12:02 AM

No one knew Betty White played Rose Nylund?

by Anonymousreply 357May 6, 2023 12:19 AM

That was shocking, r357!

by Anonymousreply 358May 6, 2023 1:15 AM

I like Hannah. I wasn’t sure for a couple days, but she’s clearly smart and quick witted. And kinda funny.

by Anonymousreply 359May 6, 2023 3:40 AM

R359, And trans.

by Anonymousreply 360May 6, 2023 4:17 AM

Sports are my worst category, but I was SURE Dodgers was right....

Super perky Ellie Kemper reading the baking clues seemed to be on a sugar high.

by Anonymousreply 361May 6, 2023 4:18 AM

He lost me at "Me and my college friend ...." to start a sentence.

I got Cubs, but could understand Dodgers as a guess.

by Anonymousreply 362May 6, 2023 12:15 PM

Does the Master's Tournament start Monday because nothing was mentioned on Friday.

by Anonymousreply 363May 6, 2023 12:15 PM

Every fucking night for 10 days, Monday through Friday.

by Anonymousreply 364May 6, 2023 3:55 PM

What does “Dodgers” have to do with youth?

by Anonymousreply 365May 6, 2023 6:08 PM
Does the Master's Tournament start Monday because nothing was mentioned on Friday.

Plenty of commercials for the Masters Tournament are airing, including during Friday's game.

Mayim likely didn't say anything on air because when they taped Friday's game back in March, an exact air date for the Master's Tournament likely hadn't been set yet.

Also, don't forget the Master's Tournament airs in primetime on ABC, whereas the regular show is syndicated on various stations around the country. Thus, a CBS or NBC station that airs the regular show isn't going to want to promote a special show airing on ABC.

by Anonymousreply 366May 6, 2023 10:48 PM

Exactly, R366. My CBS affiliate airs JEOPARDY each weeknight at 7:30 pm, so they won't be promoting an ABC special.

by Anonymousreply 367May 6, 2023 11:24 PM

Who are DLers favorite Masters in this tournament?

by Anonymousreply 368May 6, 2023 11:46 PM

I guess I'd bet on Holzhauer to win, followed by Schneider.

by Anonymousreply 370May 6, 2023 11:54 PM

My favorite is any cute, sexy, macular guy to win - bonus points if he's gay.

by Anonymousreply 371May 6, 2023 11:59 PM

I like Sam, and can tolerate Matt, but the rest of them, NO thanks (looking at YOU Mattea 'they' Roach).

by Anonymousreply 372May 7, 2023 12:57 PM

I’ve had more than enough of Amy Schneider.

by Anonymousreply 373May 7, 2023 1:13 PM

Mattea should be forced to compete with their hands bound at their sides.

by Anonymousreply 374May 7, 2023 7:09 PM

I’m not looking forward to 90 minutes of Jeopardy! every night. It’s too much.

by Anonymousreply 375May 8, 2023 4:51 AM

Link to the thread to discuss the Jeopardy! Masters Tournament.

Use this thread to discuss the daily syndicated game.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 376May 8, 2023 6:12 AM

Some people may not be watching the daily syndicated show, but will be watching the Masters Tournament.

And some will be watching the daily syndicated show, but not the Masters Tournament.

Thus the need for separate threads to discuss the games.

by Anonymousreply 377May 8, 2023 6:19 AM

The writers really don’t like older women, do they? They famously age-baited Diana Ross multiple times, and today referred to Bonnie Raitt as an “aging redhead.” (Willie Nelson also, but he’s quite a bit older.)

by Anonymousreply 378May 8, 2023 11:43 PM

Hannah may be on her way to this season's Tournament of Champions.

by Anonymousreply 379May 9, 2023 3:18 AM

Hannah deserved that win; Kabul made me think of The Kite Runner, but I couldn't remember the later novel's title.

by Anonymousreply 380May 9, 2023 3:21 AM

I still believe Hannah is trans.

Have you ever seen a female give a triple fist pump like Hannah did after winning tonight?

by Anonymousreply 381May 9, 2023 3:56 AM

Hannah seems really sweet without Amy's ... assertiveness (male privilege, though I cringe at putting it that way).

by Anonymousreply 382May 9, 2023 1:41 PM

Maxim’s sitcom was cancelled, so she’s free to host more. Excited?

by Anonymousreply 383May 9, 2023 6:16 PM

What a stupid twat! For the millionth time, Jeopardy needs to teach a course on wagering, especially for women,

by Anonymousreply 384May 9, 2023 9:37 PM

Raquel, you idiot!

She could have easily won if she had wagered properly.

She didn’t even wager enough to win if Hannah had bet zero.

by Anonymousreply 385May 10, 2023 12:04 AM

That final bet goes down in the show annals as one of the most moronic!

by Anonymousreply 386May 10, 2023 12:05 AM

So, Hannah was cast as Lee Harvey Oswald in her high school production of Sondheim’s Assassins.

Hmm . . .

by Anonymousreply 387May 10, 2023 12:06 AM

Omg! Super easy FJ.

by Anonymousreply 388May 10, 2023 12:28 AM

Where oh where did they get tonight's contestants ? From the sideshow at the circus ? What an odd bunch of people - including host Maxim Ballsack.

by Anonymousreply 389May 10, 2023 3:08 AM

They picked these people over me. How do you think that makes me feel?

by Anonymousreply 390May 10, 2023 4:34 AM

I can see Mayim as Sara Jane Moore.

by Anonymousreply 391May 10, 2023 4:51 AM

R391, only if Ken Jennings plays Sam Byck in your Assassins production. Byck doesn't get a song, but has those great monologues into his cassette recorder, dressed in a filthy Santa suit!

by Anonymousreply 392May 10, 2023 9:31 AM

I hope they stop choosing contestants from failed lab experiences. It doesn't make for good TV.

by Anonymousreply 393May 10, 2023 3:21 PM

I got all the Burt Bachrach questions correctly. Except for the woman in the middle who got some right, the other didn't even try.

by Anonymousreply 394May 10, 2023 3:31 PM

It's NOT The Judgment at Nuremberg.

It's Judgment at Nuremberg.

Can't believe the judges let that pass. But he didn't come close to winning anyway.

by Anonymousreply 395May 10, 2023 11:32 PM

Again, Hannah mentioned the wife.

When will it be revealed that Hannah was born male?

by Anonymousreply 396May 10, 2023 11:45 PM

I am shocked that they missed FJ. Australia seemed so obvious and easy.

OK, Hannah got her entry in the ToC. Maybe now she can go away.

by Anonymousreply 397May 10, 2023 11:59 PM

I caught that, too, R395. Juneteenth? I could've understood guessing MLK Day.

Got final right away although didn't think of the Oz states are separate colonies? Ones I knew they didn't: Gin and Tonic, franking, customs, The Secret Garden, Virginia Woolf, flamingo, Lady Chatterley's Lover.

Hannah seems to be benefiting from weak competition and buzzing in fast, although she dies have a broad range of knowledge.

by Anonymousreply 398May 11, 2023 12:02 AM

What a stooge! February was one part, and "this year" was another. The only possible answer was Mardi Gras.

by Anonymousreply 404May 11, 2023 10:31 PM

It amounts to one week.

by Anonymousreply 405May 12, 2023 12:14 AM

by Anonymousreply 406May 12, 2023 12:39 AM
Poor Marie-Claude never had a chance, even if Mayim used her best high-school French to pronounce her name.

R353 This post is a week old, but I'm still laughing at this: "her best high-school French to pronounce her name."

by Anonymousreply 407May 12, 2023 2:35 AM

I was really hoping the Fred Armisen knockoff known as Hannah would be finished tonight.

by Anonymousreply 408May 12, 2023 2:45 AM

Thanks, r407.

by Anonymousreply 409May 12, 2023 3:03 AM

R408, Who keeps rats as pets?

by Anonymousreply 410May 12, 2023 3:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 411May 12, 2023 4:04 AM

I'm loving Hannah! Modesty goes a long way in a champ.

by Anonymousreply 412May 12, 2023 12:38 PM

Well, a potted plant would be smarter than Victoria. Are we being punked with these terrible contestants??

by Anonymousreply 413May 12, 2023 9:17 PM

I wonder if some of these contestants get 'stage fright' once the game begins and the cameras start rolling.

by Anonymousreply 414May 12, 2023 9:25 PM

Just warning everyone about today. If you don’t fall asleep you’re a hardcore fan. What the fuck is going on??

by Anonymousreply 415May 12, 2023 9:27 PM

Hannah is another Amy, in more ways than one.

by Anonymousreply 416May 12, 2023 9:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 417May 12, 2023 9:31 PM

No R416, Hannah is being put up against ridiculously bad opponents. She’s not that good. She would be crushed by any number of champs from last season.

by Anonymousreply 418May 12, 2023 9:33 PM

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would say this Hannah run has been completely contrived. They wanted what they wanted and they got it.

And she still should have lost in game three or four, except for a wager that was extremely puzzling.

by Anonymousreply 419May 12, 2023 9:38 PM

Thanks for the heads-up, R415. I’ll skip tonight’s episode. Not a fan of Hannah.

by Anonymousreply 420May 12, 2023 9:45 PM

I noticed when Hannah's pronunciation of a name is incorrect, they give her the win anyway. When another opponent does the same thing, they say, "No, I'm sorry - that's wrong."

by Anonymousreply 421May 12, 2023 9:52 PM

Today’s episode is a disgrace. And I agree that they let Hannah get away with mispronunciation. I think she pronounced ex parte as ex partate today, but I could be wrong.

by Anonymousreply 424May 12, 2023 10:19 PM

Ben is back on Monday. I predict he will humble Hannah. Someone on Twitter keeps track of statistics for each game. Today the three contestants answered only 42 out of 60 questions correctly. On at least 11-12, they stood there like fools until the buzzer.

by Anonymousreply 425May 12, 2023 11:37 PM

Hannah and the Potted Plants

by Anonymousreply 426May 12, 2023 11:58 PM

Jesus f****** Christ today's episode was a slog to get through.

by Anonymousreply 427May 13, 2023 1:14 AM

Hannah is very bright but she’s also playing idiots.

by Anonymousreply 428May 13, 2023 1:42 AM

Have the Jeopardy! producers instructed Hannah not to reveal that she is trans so soon after Amy?

by Anonymousreply 429May 13, 2023 2:04 AM

I guessed FJ correctly. Yay me

by Anonymousreply 430May 13, 2023 2:37 AM
Who keeps rats as pets?

I kept pet rats as a pre-teen and everything Hannah said about them is true: they are sweet and very intelligent. One of my favorite rats (“Bonnie Ratt”) won first place in a rat contest and we were both featured in The Washington Post!

Hannah has a pleasing way about her and a wide range of knowledge. The other players have been awful. Was “Skyler” last night trans too? She was annoying with the giggle/laugh accompanying choosing a clue.

I liked the woman who owned an independent bookstore because she reminded me of someone I know.

by Anonymousreply 431May 13, 2023 11:42 AM

Dare I ask what goes in to choosing a champion rat? (Asking for a few of them in my neighborhood.)

by Anonymousreply 432May 13, 2023 12:26 PM

If Hannah was not born male, I’ll eat my . . ,

by Anonymousreply 433May 13, 2023 12:43 PM

Since you asked, R432…

Bonnie was very sweet and licked my fingers and was very loving. When she did that to the judges, I knew she had won them over and that I would win.

On topic: I still can’t believe Australia was missed the other day.

I think Hannah mentioning that she played Lee Harvey Oswald in her high school production of “Assassins” was her way of “coming out” as trans. She’s not as showy about it as Amy and her tattoo stories.

by Anonymousreply 434May 13, 2023 1:39 PM

No one knew Allen Ludden?

by Anonymousreply 435May 13, 2023 1:42 PM

I'm loving watching Hannah win. She's self-possessed but modest, easy-going, sweet, no weird habits or tics.....I mean, what's not to like?

Not sure if she was originally male but I do try to imagine her as a boy and think she must have been very cute. In any case, why would I hold her possible transitioning against her?

by Anonymousreply 436May 13, 2023 1:48 PM

I pray Ben wipes the floor with her.

by Anonymousreply 437May 13, 2023 5:02 PM

I'm surprised they won't wait until Hannah loses to bring back Ben as reigning champion. Maybe they asked him and he didn't care when he returned.

by Anonymousreply 438May 13, 2023 6:02 PM

Why, R437?

by Anonymousreply 439May 13, 2023 6:02 PM
Who keeps rats as pets?

Obviously you never watched the movies WILLARD or BEN from the early 70s ?

Michael Jackson even had a hit song for the movie theme when he was barely a teen.

by Anonymousreply 440May 13, 2023 7:06 PM

Yes, I saw them, and the question stands.

by Anonymousreply 441May 13, 2023 8:14 PM

I got that, R435. Read Betty's autobiography recently.

by Anonymousreply 442May 14, 2023 2:11 AM

You'd probably have to be at the very least 60 (like me) to know who Allen Ludden was. Though he was the host of the very popular game show Password, there was no reason to think of him after he passed, even as Betty White's husband. Her career didn't really take off until her widowhood.

by Anonymousreply 443May 14, 2023 4:12 AM

R443, Numerous Password reruns are shown every day on Buzzr.

Plus, Betty mentioned him in every interview she gave since he died.

by Anonymousreply 444May 14, 2023 4:26 AM

“Her career didn't really take off until her widowhood.“

Allen Ludden died four years after The Mary Tyler Moore Show ended and she had already won multiple Emmys.

by Anonymousreply 445May 14, 2023 4:30 AM

But nobody under 60 watches those reruns nor read those old interviews with Betty White, r444.

by Anonymousreply 446May 14, 2023 4:31 AM

Ok, maybe it's under 50 years old know who Allen Ludden was. But I think 60 is truly more likely.

by Anonymousreply 447May 14, 2023 4:32 AM

^What a moron.

by Anonymousreply 448May 14, 2023 4:32 AM

I don't recall Ben as one of the rare "couldn't continue for personal reasons, will resume at a later date" champs?

by Anonymousreply 449May 15, 2023 12:00 PM

He got sick and they deferred his next appearance.

by Anonymousreply 450May 15, 2023 12:20 PM

R450, It was said that he was unable to travel.

by Anonymousreply 451May 15, 2023 1:26 PM

Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. Shocking! Just shocking!

by Anonymousreply 456May 15, 2023 10:07 PM

Easiest FJ of the year.

by Anonymousreply 457May 15, 2023 10:11 PM

Why such a variance in FJs?

Some are extraordinarily difficult while others are embarrassingly easy.

by Anonymousreply 458May 15, 2023 10:16 PM

Hannah can take his fake "girl voice" and shove it. And there isn't a single hot guy contestant this week, but plenty of fatties.

by Anonymousreply 459May 15, 2023 11:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 460May 15, 2023 11:56 PM

Good to have Ben back and he's still amazing.

by Anonymousreply 461May 15, 2023 11:58 PM

Well, that was extremely satisfying. Good call, R425.

by Anonymousreply 462May 15, 2023 11:58 PM

Not a fan of Ben, hope it's not a week of runaway wins.

Didn't get Final, but did know Jill Scott as I've seen that video series (Anika Noni Rose as her assistant is closer to the character in the books).

by Anonymousreply 463May 16, 2023 12:01 AM

R463 must be the only Jeopardy! viewer in the western hemisphere who did not get tonight’s FJ.

by Anonymousreply 464May 16, 2023 12:55 AM

Yay for Ben. Such a thorough trouncing. Hannah showed what a mediocre contestant they always wear.

by Anonymousreply 465May 16, 2023 1:18 AM

She wore a contestant?

by Anonymousreply 466May 16, 2023 1:49 AM

I like Ben. He makes me relax.

Easiest FJ ever... as someone said, I don't get the disparity. Some FJs very obscure, others simple simple simple.

by Anonymousreply 467May 16, 2023 2:31 AM

I hate Ben's cradling of the signaling device just a scintilla less than Assoc. Prof. Sam's two-handed, weird buzz-in.

by Anonymousreply 468May 16, 2023 2:33 AM

I have never called anyone a THEY in my life and I'm sure as hell not going to start. And that fake female voice? Good Riddance.

All the Hannah haters can be very pleased with themselves.

How many more wins before the Ben hate begins?

by Anonymousreply 471May 16, 2023 2:49 AM

R471 There are so many obese players to hate this week I plan on winging it until I decide to go after Ben.

by Anonymousreply 472May 16, 2023 3:32 AM

Hannah had been pretty fast on the buzzer, but was no match for split-second Ben. I liked all three; Wendy seemed smart, but what a tough competition day.

by Anonymousreply 473May 16, 2023 4:33 AM
How many more wins before the Ben hate begins?

Oh, it won’t take much more. For his service in completely trouncing and easily dispatching Hannah I hope that he gets his five wins so he gets into the TOC, which I’m sure that he will. But, I get tired of almost all of the dominating champs who steamroll over their competitors. I prefer more evenly matched games — unless it’s a guy who is hot as hell, then he can flatten his opponents for all I care.

by Anonymousreply 474May 16, 2023 7:32 AM

“Some sources revealed that Hannah Wilson is a transgender who identifies as a woman. The rumor heightened when the 2022 Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions winner Amy Schneider congratulated Wilson and welcomed her to “the Guild of Jeopardy Champion Trans Women.”

Despite multiple sources claiming Wilson to be transgender, she herself has not made a comment regarding it.

If she prefers to keep her gender out of the limelight, then the rest of us should respect her wish and should not spread baseless rumors about it.

Hannah has proved herself to be one of the viewers’ favorites regardless of her gender.

Her skills, composure, and intelligence have won money as well as people’s hearts.”

by Anonymousreply 475May 16, 2023 7:58 AM

Gotta say I was rooting for Tom and all that low-key macho energy and it almost looked like he had a chance in the first 15 minutes.

Ugh. Bring Hannah back!

by Anonymousreply 477May 16, 2023 11:36 PM

Love Ben. Very Zen.

by Anonymousreply 479May 17, 2023 1:05 AM

What’s with his red wedding band? Has he mentioned his “spouse”?

by Anonymousreply 480May 17, 2023 1:07 AM

I miss Cris Pannullo.

by Anonymousreply 481May 17, 2023 1:08 AM

R480 Is Ben the one who called his baby momma his "partner"....ugh.

by Anonymousreply 482May 17, 2023 1:11 AM

R482 No, that was Andrew He in the Masters series. You're getting your Asian men mixed up. I guess they 'all look the same' to you ?

by Anonymousreply 483May 17, 2023 1:22 AM

I don't recall hearing about a baby? The red ring is over-the-top to me. I find him creepy.

by Anonymousreply 484May 17, 2023 1:38 AM

I find Ben impressive and expect to see more of him.

by Anonymousreply 485May 17, 2023 2:37 AM

Camus was tres difficile. Ben is a great player.

by Anonymousreply 486May 17, 2023 4:59 AM

R483 Yes. That's right. Andrew was the crybaby who talked about his PARTNER. yawn.

by Anonymousreply 487May 17, 2023 9:01 AM

I guessed Hemingway for FJ, thinking that 1960 may have been the year he committed suicide. (it was '61.)

by Anonymousreply 488May 17, 2023 12:11 PM

I guessed Camus.

by Anonymousreply 489May 17, 2023 12:12 PM

What was the FJ question again? I already forgot.

by Anonymousreply 490May 17, 2023 12:19 PM

It was a quote from Sartre about another writer's death.

by Anonymousreply 491May 17, 2023 2:51 PM

“Another writer” was not specified.
In 1960 Jean-Paul Sartre wrote of this man’s “victorious attempt…to snatch every instant of his existence from his future death”

by Anonymousreply 492May 17, 2023 4:38 PM

The clue made me think they were looking for the name of a character created by Sartre, of which I knew none. Thought just maybe it was Everyman. It was very tricky.

by Anonymousreply 493May 17, 2023 5:23 PM

God they suck tonight. For those wondering Ben has a female partner, lol.

by Anonymousreply 494May 17, 2023 11:23 PM

R494, It was a struggle to get through tonight’s show.

by Anonymousreply 495May 17, 2023 11:46 PM

Yeah, this has been torture.

by Anonymousreply 496May 17, 2023 11:48 PM

I need Ben to stand still and speak up. He’s like a teenager.

Hilarious that nobody knew Bowen Yang.

by Anonymousreply 497May 17, 2023 11:53 PM

Ugh - who will rid us of this annoying champ?

by Anonymousreply 498May 18, 2023 12:43 AM

Certainly not the two numbnuts they had on tonight.

by Anonymousreply 499May 18, 2023 1:51 AM
Hilarious that nobody knew Bowen Yang.

And with two Asian men as contestants!

by Anonymousreply 500May 18, 2023 2:15 AM

What is it about Ben that is just so annoying?

by Anonymousreply 501May 18, 2023 3:46 AM

If Ben has a female partner it's time for me to turn in my gaydar.

by Anonymousreply 502May 18, 2023 4:38 AM

R501 - there seems to be some weird "frenemy" vibe from him.

by Anonymousreply 503May 18, 2023 12:22 PM

Ben often has such a distasteful and condescending sneer on his face when he buzzes in.

by Anonymousreply 504May 18, 2023 12:43 PM

The weird “raise the roof” thing he does when being introduced is annoying. He also has a strange affectation when answering questions he knows are correct. It’s like he draws out the moment or something. Words with an “S” sounds are delivered dramatically.

There’s also a lot of blinking.

by Anonymousreply 505May 18, 2023 2:09 PM

Yeah, Ben is nuts. And the fake humility…you’re not fooling anyone, dear. Oh my gosh…I can’t believe I got that right!!! 🙄

by Anonymousreply 506May 18, 2023 2:27 PM

I think Ben is an Aspie.

John is quite sexy.

by Anonymousreply 512May 18, 2023 11:55 PM

These were, sadly, potted plants opponents.

A fem married hetboi (total social approval) in maximum sinecure possible (philosophy professor). Ugh!

by Anonymousreply 513May 19, 2023 12:05 AM

R510 They're younger than us.

by Anonymousreply 514May 19, 2023 12:30 AM

FJ was pretty easy.

Though, I thought it was an earlier ‘80’s song.

by Anonymousreply 515May 19, 2023 12:35 AM

Why would anyone under 60 know LOOK Magazine? I, of course, did but then I'm even older.

Unlike LIFE, LOOK's articles, covers and photos are never referenced now. I'm trying to remember why anyone back then would have subscribed to LOOK instead of LIFE, what LOOK would have done better.

by Anonymousreply 516May 19, 2023 1:13 AM

I can't wait to see Ben and Cris Panullo compete! Who would win?

by Anonymousreply 517May 19, 2023 1:14 AM

John looked like he was an inbred loner from a small Canadian town. Oh, wait . . .

by Anonymousreply 518May 19, 2023 1:53 AM

Stanley Kubrick started as a staff photographer at "Look" when he was only 17. Most of his photos were of New York in the 40s.

by Anonymousreply 520May 19, 2023 4:39 AM

For Wednesday's category about British people, couldn't the last clue about AIDS awareness have been about Elizabeth Taylor? Does anyone really link Diana and AIDS that much?

by Anonymousreply 521May 19, 2023 5:40 AM

Taylor was born in England to American parents (thus was a dual citizen at birth) and left the UK for the US when she was 7. I don’t think she is described as “British,” at least not without an asterisk

by Anonymousreply 522May 19, 2023 5:53 AM

Google her. "British-American actress". Couldn't someone have argued that? Would the judges ruled against that?

by Anonymousreply 523May 19, 2023 6:00 AM

I thought of Diana immediately. The last ten years of her life was devoted to her public campaign in caring for AIDS patients, making physical contact with them while visiting them with her two sons,

Taylor posed for pictures, usually looking bewildered most of the time.

by Anonymousreply 524May 19, 2023 2:07 PM

R524, Dame Elizabeth Taylor did more to battle the AIDS virus than Diana ever did.

by Anonymousreply 525May 19, 2023 2:28 PM

My first thought was Elizabeth Taylor also.

by Anonymousreply 526May 19, 2023 2:47 PM

R519 #18 is creepy as hell.

by Anonymousreply 527May 19, 2023 3:02 PM

I associate Diana with landmines.

by Anonymousreply 528May 19, 2023 4:12 PM

I forgot the category and came up with Liz.

Diana went to hospitals and embraced AIDS patients which no doubt reduced the public fear of contagion, but Liz raised a ton for research.

by Anonymousreply 529May 19, 2023 4:59 PM

Elizabeth Taylor maintained dual citizenship throughout her entire adult life AND the Queen made her a Dame.

by Anonymousreply 530May 19, 2023 7:52 PM

Ben is the most annoying multi day champ since Matt Amodio.

by Anonymousreply 531May 20, 2023 2:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 532May 20, 2023 2:19 AM

I liked the female contestant. She seemed to have a good sense of humor and is actually socialized, lol.

by Anonymousreply 533May 20, 2023 2:28 AM

Yeah, I was really rooting for her, she was so personable, and didn't do too badly.

Though Ben won he was off his game tonight. Maybe he's tiring out and misses Wisconsin and his mommy.

by Anonymousreply 534May 20, 2023 2:46 AM

LOL, 534. He does have a knack for finding the DJs but they seemed to work against him this game.

by Anonymousreply 535May 20, 2023 3:04 AM

I'm on Team Ben. Has he won more games than Heather ? Will he make it to one of the tournaments in the future ?

by Anonymousreply 536May 20, 2023 12:31 PM

His tattoo story was very strangely conveyed. I'm not so sure he can carry on meaningful conversations? He's probably popular with students, but disliked by his colleagues.

by Anonymousreply 537May 20, 2023 12:47 PM

There’s no knack for finding DJs. The advantage comes from answering more clues correctly and getting more opportunities to pick.

by Anonymousreply 538May 20, 2023 12:56 PM

True, r538, yet some contestants (often women) will choose to simply run through a category from low money to high, ignoring the fact that DJs are never at the top of the board.

by Anonymousreply 539May 20, 2023 1:27 PM
I'm on Team Ben. Has he won more games than Heather ? Will he make it to one of the tournaments in the future ?

Who is Heather? Do you mean Hannah?

[QUITE] yet some contestants (often women) will choose to simply run through a category from low money to high, ignoring the fact that DJs are never at the top of the board.

That’s not necessarily true. The other night on Jeopardy Masters, both DDs in Double were $800 clues.

by Anonymousreply 540May 20, 2023 1:34 PM

^^sorry, formatting error

by Anonymousreply 541May 20, 2023 1:34 PM

R540 Yes, I meant Hannah. Sorry about that - doing too many things at once ! LOL

by Anonymousreply 542May 20, 2023 4:22 PM

I like it when contestants stick with one category, lowest value clues to high, rather than jumping all over the board. I think that used to be more common, but I guess it could be a strategic disadvantage until the Daily Doubles have been found.

by Anonymousreply 543May 20, 2023 4:45 PM

You also want to run up your score early so that when you do find the DD, you have money to bet.

by Anonymousreply 544May 20, 2023 8:39 PM

I've been watching the Masters Tournament this week, so haven't had time to watch the syndicated show until now.

I caught up on all 5 of this week's episodes in one sitting! Major mistake! Jeopardy! is not a show to binge like that. Best savored one show at a time with some time between shows. It felt like a chore to get all 5 watched instead of a pleasant distract from my day.

Because I was watching this week's shows, I got 5 doses of Ben. He is impressive! A really good player. He is also annoying. I was really sick of him by the time I was watching Friday's show. Was rooting for him to loose.

I will admit, my fondest for Ben began to wane when he announced Elaine as his wife. He was coming off as gay before that announcement. But the raising the roof gesture and mouthing "Hey mom" is also getting old. Maybe if I had been watching him one show per day, I might react better to him, but 5 episodes in a row of Ben was 4 too many!

by Anonymousreply 545May 21, 2023 12:08 AM

Ben's awkward attempts o be cool endear him to me.

by Anonymousreply 546May 21, 2023 3:08 AM

I wish Ben was less timid with his bets.

by Anonymousreply 547May 21, 2023 3:10 AM

Ben is even timid with his bets when he's sure to win even with the wrong response.

by Anonymousreply 548May 21, 2023 3:13 AM

In case you missed it..Link to Full Vulture article........ What is interesting is the CHANGES the E.P. wants to make...Buzzer Speed Data?. ----------->>My dream is to have a second-screen Jeopardy! experience. People could get live statistics throughout the show, such as buzzer-speed data and how many attempts contestants have tried to buzz in. The other thing I’m quite fixated upon is the game board. The huge advantage of watching this show in the studio while we’re filming is that we see the game board full. The speed of these games move so fast that I often lose track of what category we’re in. That’s the other feature I’d love to be able to offer on the second screen: the full game board. One of the things we’re experimenting with in the off-season is figuring out where, within the real estate of a full-screen clue, we can include the category title — or whether we go for a slightly different shot sequence before we reveal the clue so we can see which category it’s coming from."

by Anonymousreply 553May 22, 2023 11:22 PM

Ugh, every time that lunkhead in the middle seemed to be gaining on Ben, he'd venture a stupid wrong response.

by Anonymousreply 554May 22, 2023 11:24 PM

Ben seems like a nice guy, but he certainly has a lot of nervous tics, doesn't he?

by Anonymousreply 555May 22, 2023 11:32 PM

Knew final immediately, as well as bereaved.

Once again, he benefits from weak challengers.

by Anonymousreply 556May 23, 2023 12:35 AM

FJ was easy again.

by Anonymousreply 557May 23, 2023 12:51 AM

Sadly, this week Jeopardy is keeping it's streak of NON HOT guy contestants. It's becoming more and more obvious. We need hot players instead of mediocre fraus.

by Anonymousreply 558May 23, 2023 4:02 AM

by Anonymousreply 562May 23, 2023 11:08 PM

fucking disgusting outfit the host has on! SO FUCKING UGLY!!!!

by Anonymousreply 563May 23, 2023 11:23 PM

And I knew the correct FJ!!

by Anonymousreply 564May 23, 2023 11:29 PM

FJ: So Ben spelled it Benedict not Benedick? Is that what happened?

by Anonymousreply 565May 23, 2023 11:31 PM

I knew FJ, but I too probably would have written "Benedict" rather than "Benedick" and would have been ruled incorrect.

by Anonymousreply 566May 23, 2023 11:32 PM

I knew it was Benedick but sorta surprised that the judges didn't give it to Ben.

Yay, Lynne but I have a feeling she won't last long.

by Anonymousreply 567May 23, 2023 11:37 PM

I'm surprised but he'll be back for TOC.

by Anonymousreply 568May 23, 2023 11:58 PM

Whatever it took to get rid of him. And, yes, Lynne — who looks a little like Jane Curtain — will probably not last long.

by Anonymousreply 569May 24, 2023 12:00 AM

Ben didn't know dick.

by Anonymousreply 570May 24, 2023 12:02 AM

Oh, no, R567! That's exactly the kind of near-miss that gets NO sympathy from the judges.

Often, the champ's last night has a foreshadow vibe, although this one was damned close up to the last minute.

by Anonymousreply 571May 24, 2023 12:04 AM

Didn;t they bring that female contestant who had one or two letters left to write in FJ before time was up? I believe they gave her another chance.

by Anonymousreply 572May 24, 2023 12:31 AM

Lynn is a one day wonder if ever there was one.

by Anonymousreply 573May 24, 2023 12:38 AM

If contestants give a list of conversation topics to chat about, how dull must the others have been if "cornholing" was the best? Or did the producers just want to giggle?

by Anonymousreply 574May 24, 2023 12:55 AM

Yup, a misspelling.

He actually didn’t seem all that I to the game. He only came alive later on.

He was tired, maybe.

by Anonymousreply 575May 24, 2023 1:04 AM

I thought she looked just like Jane Curtin, too ! It clicked when she gave the answer "Third Rock From the Sun".

Ben: Bye, Felicia!

by Anonymousreply 577May 24, 2023 2:30 AM

I think it was the right call to not give Ben credit.

It wasn't so much a spelling error as much as a pronunciation one.

I mean a dick isn't a dict.

As for ben, I I thought he was pleasant enough when he first started playing a while back, but I began to get tired of him after a few days, especially when I learned he was straight.

Between him on Jeopardy and James on the Masters Tournament, I've had more than enough of the both of them to last me a lifetime.

As for Lynn, she'll be lucky tomorrow if she remains with a positive score by the time DJ starts.
It wasn't so much a spelling error as much as a pronunciation one.

Seeing as how the Final Jeopardy answer is only written and not spoken, that's a very strange statement.

by Anonymousreply 579May 24, 2023 2:45 AM

R579 - The two are pronouned differently.

by Anonymousreply 580May 24, 2023 2:50 AM

Well, r579, to play devil's advocate, misspellings are often acceptable in FJ. Could Benedict be considered a misspelling of Benedick (just one letter off)?

Personally, I'd like to think the producers just wanted to get rid of Ben.

by Anonymousreply 581May 24, 2023 3:22 AM

Benedict Is not Benedick. It was a tough ruling, but I think it was the right one. Plus, there were a few times tonight where Mayim gave Ben a very large berth in terms of some of his answers. It almost sounded as if she was supplying the.correct responses. .
Personally, I'd like to think the producers just wanted to get rid of Ben.

I agree. That was my thought, too.

by Anonymousreply 583May 24, 2023 3:27 AM

Mayim seemed to be hesitating more often tonight than ever before.

by Anonymousreply 584May 24, 2023 3:27 AM

I said Benedict too and need to brush up my Shakespeare. I didn't know that Beatrice meant blessed either.

by Anonymousreply 585May 24, 2023 4:28 AM

R582, Ben responded “quahog” three different ways and Mayim accepted it.

by Anonymousreply 586May 24, 2023 4:40 AM

You allowed to misspell in FJ as long as your spelling results in the correct pronunciation.

by Anonymousreply 587May 24, 2023 4:43 AM

Ben was adding ad hoc commentary throughout the game and sucking up playtime. P

by Anonymousreply 588May 24, 2023 11:15 AM

They wouldn't accept "Romeo and Julie" even if it was only one letter off.

by Anonymousreply 589May 24, 2023 12:14 PM

It was the wrong answer, R589. Why would they “accept” it?

by Anonymousreply 590May 24, 2023 12:48 PM

[quote}There were a few times tonight where Mayim gave Ben a very large berth in terms of some of his answers. It almost sounded as if she was supplying the.correct responses. .

What do you mean by that?

by Anonymousreply 591May 24, 2023 2:03 PM

It really isn't up to Mayim to determine if an answer is right or wrong, is it?

by Anonymousreply 592May 24, 2023 2:21 PM

Matt Amodio said he's been living in Cambridge, MA for a number of years - and he couldn't get the DJ answer "Red maple trees' ? They are on every street in New England. There is probably one in front of his house.

by Anonymousreply 593May 24, 2023 2:26 PM

For final, if the judges can see the answers immediately that'd give them time to signal a problem early? I suspect Mayim waits a few seconds to give them time on clues, where Ken is more willing to rule right away, risking a later reversal.

by Anonymousreply 594May 24, 2023 2:36 PM
I suspect Mayim waits a few seconds to give them time on clues, where Ken is more willing to rule right away, risking a later reversal.

But the thing is, Mayim sometimes pauses even when the contestant's response is 100 percent clearly correct. That's what I don't understand.

by Anonymousreply 595May 24, 2023 2:40 PM
What do you mean by that?

R591, please see R586, who supplied the information in a more precise and helpful manner than I did. Though I think there was at least one other instance early on in last night’s show where the same thing happened.

by Anonymousreply 596May 24, 2023 3:34 PM

Aside from the fact that mispronounced answers are frequently accepted, isn't the rule that if you pronounce an answer incorrectly but also correctly within the amount of time alloted for for the answer, you are ruled correct?

by Anonymousreply 597May 24, 2023 3:37 PM

Why did Ben cross put “Benedict” only to write the exact same thing underneath it? It seems like even he knew there was some issue with the spelling.

by Anonymousreply 598May 24, 2023 3:53 PM

R598, I'm thinking he realized "Benedict" wasn't quite right, so he crossed it out but then couldn't think of the correct spelling, so he just rewrote "Benedict."

by Anonymousreply 599May 24, 2023 4:04 PM

What a farce. Duuude. wake up you're on Jeopardy.
