Arraignment day!
MSNBC - Part 46
by Anonymous | reply 600 | June 1, 2023 7:14 PM |
TG Katy Tur is on this afternoon, the last couple of hours were awful. Katy was excellent when she covered the Insurrection. Andrew Weismann was just on, he's becoming MSNBC's rock star.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 4, 2023 4:16 PM |
What the everloving fuck is going on with Nicolle Wallace's hair?
She looks INSANE.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 4, 2023 8:03 PM |
John Heilemann + Nicolle Wallace.
And he’s wearing a tie!!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 4, 2023 8:03 PM |
Nicolle's hair looks like Mary Hartman's when she took her braids out.
In the mental institution.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 4, 2023 8:06 PM |
I wonder if Rashida gave Heilemann a talking to because he has been out of sorts recently. When he was filling in for Nicolle a while back he was superb, but now on MJ he falters, hesitates and rambles.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 4, 2023 8:24 PM |
Heilemann hasn’t been the same since he was at a loss for words responding to Russell Brand on Bill Maher’s show.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 4, 2023 8:26 PM |
Will Ari’s, challenged, middling characterization of Bragg’s indictment be on an endless loop in right-wing media?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 4, 2023 8:28 PM |
Poor Mike Schmidt settled, didn't he? Why he married the braying jackass (half an hour into her show on a doubly-historic solemn day, Nicolle has laughed a good 15 minutes) is just baffling. And sad.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 4, 2023 8:41 PM |
Willie Geist has one of the most punchable smug faces I’ve ever seen.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 4, 2023 8:41 PM |
R6: More likely Joe has warned John H that there's room for only one cock of the roost on "Morning Joe."

The battle of the bombastic boys!
I love them.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 4, 2023 9:53 PM |
Morning Joe, blech. A show hosted by two people with immobilized faces.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 4, 2023 9:56 PM |
I truly love Andrew Weissmann but can he begin a sentence without: "So............"
I don't even know how to spell "so" the way he says it but it's the gayest thing about him.

by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 4, 2023 11:09 PM |
I adore Andrew.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 4, 2023 11:38 PM |
What is Mika's deal with reaching for a pen (crayon?) when someone else is talking? Is she making out her grocery list? Writing the wittier things anyone else on the panel says, so she can put Joe in his place later? She has to know she is trying to steal attention away from whoever is talking. I think she and Kathie Lee are a lot alike.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 4, 2023 11:46 PM |
I'm sure it's just a nervous habit that makes her feel like she's keeping busy and contributing something.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 4, 2023 11:51 PM |
She’s looking for a crayon and colors outside the lines…just like Joe likes it
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 5, 2023 12:08 AM |
I don’t get the impression that Joe likes her, although it’s impossible to tell given his facial paralysis.

by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 5, 2023 12:40 AM |
Has MSNBC quietly rid themselves of Alex Wagner? Rachel showed up last Thur/Fri, and no one - to my knowledge - has mentioned Alex. Could the juiciness of Trump indicted bring Rachel back to 9pm???
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 5, 2023 12:43 AM |
Alex will be joining tonight's panel soon. They only want 4 of them out there will Rachel at a time.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 5, 2023 12:45 AM |
Maddow cracking up at "Pecker" and now Lawrence talking about being asked about his vagina. Aren't you glad you all tuned in? They are never boring.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 5, 2023 12:51 AM |
Why does Chris Hayes keep looking off to his extreme left, as if for approval? Weird.

He’s looking at Andrew Weissman and the the former prosecutor lady. They’re sitting at the kids' table.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 5, 2023 12:58 AM |

R38 I know he's single but unfortunately I think he's straight. I remember reading a post saying he didn't want to date younger women. I don't think he's mentioned whether he has kids or not
unless he's single by choice then I don't get why he's single unless he has issues he keeps hidden. A lot of people would be interested in someone who looks like him with the legal and now tv commentary career he has going

the guy was in Trump's admin for 5 seconds. He's nothing but an opportunist, greedy and a famewhore. He may be more socially liberal but he cares about tipping laws in favor of the super rich. He's not an expert in anything
The Tennessee situation is pathetic but very good politics for Democrats. The dumbass racist backwards repubs keep forgetting that every year a new generation of Americans turn 18 and register to vote. More and more of them do not like this extremism they are seeing from gun laws to abortion to race and lgbt issues

1 thing I wish would improve:
it really irks me when there is a journalist reporting a story to the host and the host then asks the journalist analytical questions. It's even worse when it's something legal and there is a lawyer on the panel! Or during covid when there was a doctor on the panel. A lot of these journalists are so arrogant they'll gladly indulge questions of expertise that are outside of their credentials.
Mike Schmidt, is 1 of the worst examples. You are a not a lawyer, you are a national security analyst. Report the story and let the legal experts analyze the story
by Anonymous | reply 96 | April 14, 2023 3:15 AM |
[quote] the host then asks the journalist analytical questions.
MSNBC spends so much time interviewing journalists because they don't really have a reporting staff of their own (aside from the reporters they borrow from NBC News). MSNBC's idea of "breaking news" is Nicolle Wallace reading directly from a NY Times or Washington Post story, then interviewing the Times or Post reporter who wrote the story. When was the last time that MSNBC actually "broke" a story? The hosts used to travel from time to time and do some actual reporting. I remember Rachel going to Michigan to report on Flint's water crisis, and I remember Chris Hayes going to California to report on that state's water crisis. But that sort of original on-the-scene reporting has mostly disappeared from the network.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | April 14, 2023 5:59 AM |
[quote] original on-the-scene reporting has mostly disappeared
Don't quite understand, there seems to be an appropriate level of original on-the-scene reporting, from on-the-scene reporters. Not from news hosts.
With crossover in some cases like Ukraine, mass-shooting locations, election events, etc.

Agree 100%, R96. Yesterday I was enraged when Ari and the wonderful Nick Ackerman finished their *legal* analysis of something in the various Trump cases. When Ari asked Michael Issikof to chime in, Issikof smirked "I think you both are overstating things."
Really, Michael? Mr. "Political Reporter for Yahoo News"?
Which reminded me how much I have always HATED Issikof. No matter the bona fides of the host/other panelists, he always acts like he's the smartest person in the room.

Ali Velshi is a host who still does a lot of on-the-scene reporting. He was in Ukraine for quite some time.

Though I made the point above about Ali Velshi, I do think R97's statement is true also: hosts like Chris and Rachel don't do much on-the-scene reporting themselves anymore and seem to mostly leave it to the correspondents (I recall when Chris went to the UK himself for a few days several years ago to cover a mass shooting). My assumption is that the pandemic brought an end to that sort of thing but who knows. I think during election season Joy and Ari will sometimes travel to talk to people in diners about who they're voting for but that's really about it.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | April 14, 2023 3:46 PM |
I've been watching MSNBC religiously since 2016 and can't remember Rachel or Chris ever doing any on scene reporting (though Chris would occasionally do those town hall live shows). So was this before 2016?
by Anonymous | reply 103 | April 14, 2023 3:58 PM |
R103, I remember when Rachel did the aforementioned trip to Flint about the water crisis there and she also went to Afghanistan (or maybe it was Iraq?) once. But yes, I think most of this happened before 2016, so truthfully it's been quite a while.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | April 14, 2023 4:08 PM |
Rachel doesn’t leave her home. She only comes into the studio when she gets to sit in the middle of the long table like Jesus at the last supper with a rotating portfolio of apostles.

During the morning and early afternoon, yes. But not from 4 p.m. on. Unless there's a mass shooting or some other emergency, you won't see many on-air reporters. It's mostly all analysts and "contributors." And unlike CNN, which has its own stable of reporters, MSNBC mostly uses NBC News reporters. MSNBC itself is a very small operation.

Chris does work out a lot, including weight training, so it's not accurate to say he has a dad-bod - he is fairly buff. But my impression is that he must not do cardio and he probably eats a lot of carbs, because he doesn't have much muscle definition and he just generally looks thick.

Chris describing his Catholic grandparents and their views on abortion, and believing 'it was a human being' from the start, was very familiar to the crap I heard growing up. You can't argue with Catholics of that generation, or educate them, so it's black and white and so frustrating.

2000 recount 2004 election 9/11 Iraq war Katrina Torture George Bush’s 2004 constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality federally.
Just because she drew the line at Donald Trump, doesn’t forgive past sins. Had there not been a Donald Trump, Bush would still be the worst President America ever had and she was his communications manager.

by Anonymous | reply 256 | April 25, 2023 11:53 AM |
I didn't see Rachel as babbling either, as was mentioned upthread.
She was talking about emensely popular right wing media broadcasters who need to be seen as a group and not as individuals with respect to how that matters to the country.
They're guys who are dominant for a time - and then they're not.
She also talked about how their influence over the years has become less dominant because right wing media has diversified.
And she also talked about how right wing media dominance doesn't usually extend to the mainstream and stays limited to conservatives (such as current views about abortion, closing libraries or changing child labor laws).
And she also talked about how those views drag the Republican Party down.
Then she had on a guest and they discussed this in a little more detail.
It didn't come across as babbling to me.

by Anonymous | reply 291 | April 29, 2023 12:06 PM |
MSNBC loves him because it has the rep of being a liberal network but it’s really a conservative one as well so he’s their star player. Their other star player is Republican Nicolle Wallace.
Chris Hayes, Rachel and Joy Reid are the “yes we love liberals” pleasers
by Anonymous | reply 292 | April 29, 2023 1:57 PM |
Morning Joe is incredibly popular with The Beltway Bunch. Look at the guests he can bring on, even if he does most of the talking. Mika is Queen Bee, not Rachel or Nicolle.

How is it erroneous reporting that Nicolle Wallace is a Republican?
She worked for Jen Bush and George Bush for 25 years and only during Trump did she come out and say she was a non-practicing Republican.

True, r341, but I find David Gura's oddly asymmetric jaw fascinatingly sexy.
Renato always seems to zoom in, I don't think I've ever seen him in the studio, so have no sense of his body. He might actually be kind of soft and chubby but there's just something so voluptuous about his face, especially his bedroom eyes, I'd be happy to crawl all over those love handles.
Luke is an odd one. Sometimes he looks very handsome, sometimes less so.

R361 They usually won't go to work to stand in solidarity with their fellow writers who are on strike.
Such as "The View" : they are part of the ABC News Division, which means they employ news writers for their show, so their writers are not on strike - but they didn't show up for work this week, as they stand in solidarity.

Lawrence pushed past the ethics crapola and hits Clarence and Ginni Thomas with CRIMINAL investigations.
Well, boys and girls, if Congress is going to spin its wheels on bullshit ethics investigations, Lawrence says that following the LAW is the SC ethics rules and that The Thomas' need to be criminally investigated by the IRS and the FBI!

Today, they had Broadway star Tovah Feldshuh on who is currently starring in 'Funny Girl'. She was insufferable in her ten minute interview - trying to name-drop as many names as she possibly could during her interview. Still very unimpressive.

They really should keep Symone Sanders-Townsend behind the desk on her show. The full-body shots where she's standing on the set do her no favors.
by Anonymous | reply 454 | May 13, 2023 8:10 PM |
454 I think they're trying to turn Symone into Lizzo and promote 'body beautiful' no matter if she's the size of a baby hippo.

Is there an industry term for the folded sheet of paper that anchors hold - but never reference - when they need to come out from behind their desks, and stand in front of the cameras on set?
Kind of like a tiny security blanket. Looking even more awkward on hosts who have an extra wide profile.

I don't know if there's a term for the paper they hold. But I do know this: If Symone were to drop it, she wouldn't be bending over to pick it up.

Watching Harry Litman on Nicolle today and I was mesmerized by the room he was phoning in from. Its been awhile since I've been either agog or distracted by the backgrounds of reporters/contributors on TV, but I couldn't unsee the bedspread. It was as if Patrick Nagel hit on hard times in the 90's and created a special collection for Linens 'N' Things.

Barbara McQuade's face on Rachel last night was so blotchy, she looked like she has measles.
by Anonymous | reply 536 | May 23, 2023 4:26 PM |
I noticed that, too. When she is in-studio, the make-up artist is able to cover up all her freckles. When she zooms in from home, McQuade doesn't bother - and she looks hideous. That's the aging Irish skin on her : pale and freckled.

We are at a critical impasse with debt ceiling negotiations up and down and Nicolle once again shows her off-the-wall obsession with Trump. I can no longer watch her show for the full two hours. I was a big fan. but she has pissed me off so badly with her obsession that I no longer find her very credible as a political pundit. And she uses the same talking heads over and over and none of them have anything new to say. I now turn her off and watch reruns of Rizzoli and Isles.

MJF is so 'radical' with the multi-colored hair and green glasses. That is 'radical' for 1970.

Yesterday Nicolle posed a question to MJF, she just snorted. Nicolle waited a beat and then moved on to the other guest.

The short answer is really nothing. She's written a few magazine articles. There may be more to her than her avant-garde looks. Which is in the thesaurus under "quirky."
Or maybe it's some kind of diversity hire. It doesn't seem that guests take her all that seriously, but I could be projecting.
Not to pile on, or anything.
