Ryan Coogler rebooting “The X-Files”

Omg I think he will actually do a good job with a show like that.

I'm not interested but that blazer looks like a million on him. I love that shade of green.

by Anonymousreply 1March 28, 2023 8:57 PM

This will end in black Dana Scully's tears.

by Anonymousreply 2March 28, 2023 8:59 PM

Oh, and what the hell is a "remount"? Just when I thought I heard it all.

by Anonymousreply 3March 28, 2023 9:00 PM

The article is from a Canadian news source. Maybe they say remount lol

by Anonymousreply 4March 28, 2023 9:02 PM

I guess there are no creative talented people left in Hollywood. No one to come up with new story ideas for a series (and unlike in the 60s, 70s, 80s, series would run up to 25 episodes, not just 6 or 7). Everything has to be rebooted, revived and remounted from years ago. And the casts of today have no talent.

by Anonymousreply 5March 28, 2023 9:06 PM

r4 Article is just quoting Christ Carter who used that word. He's too old for this type of Hollywood speak, but I guess his ego didn't allow him to say reboot.

by Anonymousreply 6March 28, 2023 9:12 PM

FuXXX Mo'ldur & Dashiqua Skull-E

by Anonymousreply 7March 28, 2023 9:15 PM

Jesus Christ, why?

by Anonymousreply 8March 28, 2023 10:08 PM

This is totally unnecessary.

by Anonymousreply 9March 28, 2023 10:44 PM

[quote]Ryan Coogler is set to "remount" The X-Files

I'd like to mount Ryan Coogler.

by Anonymousreply 10March 28, 2023 10:48 PM

I was hoping Coogler would do some more interesting original work since he clearly has talent, but he's just going for the money.

by Anonymousreply 11March 28, 2023 11:20 PM

You and me both, R10.

by Anonymousreply 12March 28, 2023 11:24 PM

I am so sick of this bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 13March 28, 2023 11:42 PM

Who will play the ominous Black & Milds Smoking Man?

by Anonymousreply 14March 28, 2023 11:51 PM

They’ll never recreate the magic. Hell, Scully and Mulder couldn’t even recreate the magic in 2016.

by Anonymousreply 15March 29, 2023 12:15 AM

[quote] Article is just quoting Christ Carter

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 16March 29, 2023 12:16 AM

I wouldn't mind someone having another go at The X Files. It started with so much promise and then the main story arc completely fell to pieces. It would be good to re-tell that story in a more coherent way.

by Anonymousreply 17March 29, 2023 12:16 AM

Who the fuck says “remount” for tv reboot?

by Anonymousreply 18March 29, 2023 12:17 AM

It wouldn’t even be a reboot. It would be a remake.

by Anonymousreply 19March 29, 2023 12:17 AM

R17, it won’t be the X-Files. This is the Woke Files. They act shocked when it bombs.

by Anonymousreply 20March 29, 2023 12:18 AM

R17, it won’t be the X-Files. This is the Woke Files. They’ll act shocked when it bombs.

by Anonymousreply 21March 29, 2023 12:18 AM

X-Files was lightning in a bottle with the chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson and the strength of those characters. Big mistake.

by Anonymousreply 22March 29, 2023 12:19 AM

He won’t look as good as Mulder did in the red speedo

by Anonymousreply 23March 29, 2023 12:20 AM

True, r22. It just came out at the exact right time and of course the chemistry of Duchovny and Anderson was magic. You can't recapture that.

I was in college when the X Files was at the height of its popularity in the mid-late 90s and the campus basically shut down at 9:00 on Sunday nights. We were all in front of a tv watching it. The student lounges that had a tv in them were packed. It was a communal event. That kind of thing doesn't exist anymore. Of course, this was long before DVRs, streaming tv shows at your convenience etc.

by Anonymousreply 24March 29, 2023 12:29 AM

Will DL fave Grammy Gillian be making a cameo?

by Anonymousreply 25March 29, 2023 12:31 AM

Chris Carter had a sexy hairy chest and this pic is awesome. Also, fuck this pointless reboot/remake/redux/remount/ "diversity" version.

R26 damn! I could snuggle in that thatch of chest hair and suck on those nipples for a millennium!

by Anonymousreply 28March 29, 2023 1:26 AM

Ludicrous. The X-Files worked because it was made during a time when conspiracy theories were fun and plausible and not the domain of really unpleasant crazy people. The chemistry of Mulder and Scully was electric. I'm actually getting angry thinking about it. Is nothing sacred?

by Anonymousreply 29March 29, 2023 5:32 AM

R16 What's wrong with that sentence? Not the op

by Anonymousreply 30March 29, 2023 5:35 AM

Nobody asked for this

by Anonymousreply 31March 29, 2023 5:39 AM

I fear Janelle Monae may be part of this

by Anonymousreply 32March 29, 2023 5:40 AM

Fuck R32 PLEASE don’t say that! I can’t stand the site if that weird lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 33March 29, 2023 5:45 AM

Just make more X-files with Anderson and Duchovny and the rest of that fabulous cast and those great writers.

by Anonymousreply 34March 29, 2023 5:46 AM

[quote] The X-Files worked because it was made during a time when conspiracy theories were fun and plausible and not the domain of really unpleasant crazy people.

Wait. What?

by Anonymousreply 35March 29, 2023 5:49 AM

Conspiracy theory has become mainstream, and no longer the crazy thoughts of tin hats

by Anonymousreply 36March 29, 2023 5:51 AM

R33 Janelle Monae isn't a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 37March 29, 2023 6:06 AM

Why is everything being remade for a population that is less than 13 percent? I thought black Americans were soooo different and needed to tell their own profoundly unique stories so why they just appropriating white stories.

by Anonymousreply 38March 29, 2023 6:15 AM

R38 So the potential new X Files will be made only for the black audience, because the director is black? No one else is allowed to watch it? How dares a black director direct something.

by Anonymousreply 39March 29, 2023 6:20 AM

R38 = Grand Wizard

by Anonymousreply 40March 29, 2023 6:21 AM

Of prime importance to Ryan Coogler is a diverse cast.

Has he actually thought about what stories the show will tell?

Remember the 24 reboot?

Black lead and cancellation after one season.

The success of a show is not dependent on a cast of The United Nations. It's a bit more involved than that.

by Anonymousreply 41March 29, 2023 6:30 AM

Jada should be the new Scully!

by Anonymousreply 42March 29, 2023 6:33 AM

Scully-Black

Mulder-Mexican

Skinner-Asian

Cigarette Smoking man- Evil Caucasian

Kryochek- Russian Trannie

Weekly Guest Stars- To be approved by NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People)

by Anonymousreply 43March 29, 2023 9:24 AM

R30 - he called him "Christ" Carter

by Anonymousreply 44March 29, 2023 10:01 AM

Will Viola Davies be available though?

by Anonymousreply 45March 29, 2023 10:34 AM

Ryan could get it.

by Anonymousreply 46March 29, 2023 11:35 AM

R35 what is funny about your answer is the X-files actually did one episode where they joked about people saying, 'Wait. What?' using that line at least a couple of times in The ep, "Jose Chung's From Outer Space"

sooo my question is, 'are you one of the writer's?' ' ;)

by Anonymousreply 47March 29, 2023 5:16 PM

[quote]Just make more X-files with Anderson and Duchovny and the rest of that fabulous cast and those great writers.

Gillian Anderson has said that she's done playing Scully.

by Anonymousreply 48March 29, 2023 7:53 PM

He needs the X Files brand in order to get on the air - he won’t get the funding for an original idea

Once he has the name and the funding, he can do whatever he wants. In his X Files, Mulder and Scully could be replaced by two junk salesmen (a father and son) who just sit around and bicker each episode. But it’s still called X Files so everyone is happy!

Welcome to Showbiz circa 2023!

by Anonymousreply 49March 29, 2023 8:31 PM

Billy Porter as Mulder and Laverne Cox as Scully!

by Anonymousreply 50March 29, 2023 8:45 PM

I think I've finally succumbed to The Industry.

The thought of an X-Files remake does not cause me to want to slap someone viciously.

by Anonymousreply 51March 29, 2023 8:45 PM

R40 how would you feel if white people started remaking every black tv show/movie? Your misguided liberalism and one-sided sense of racism makes you seem… dim. And embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 52March 30, 2023 2:58 AM

I have no issue with this reboot, sounds like fun. This is going to make me sound horrible, but I never buy these types of shows when they're lead by either black or Hispanic actors. I mean, the minute some kind of spooky paranormal bullshit happens, black and/or Hispanic investigators are going to be out the door with a big "fuck this supernatural bullshit, I'm out." Only white characters are believable investigating paranormal stuff. White people are like, let me see what's going on here. Black people are like, my name is Bennett and I'm not in it. Gurl, bye. Hispanic people are like where is my Rosary, call Father Juan. And yes I know I'm stereotyping.

by Anonymousreply 53March 30, 2023 3:07 AM

They can do what they want but this will NEVER be the x-files.

by Anonymousreply 54March 30, 2023 3:15 AM

The X-Files is sacred?

Get out of here.

They may have provided some incredible moments of TV, but there was also SO MUCH CRAP.

I will always remember that moment from one episode about killer bugs where they had a cockroach crawl across the screen. For about a second, I thought there was a real cockroach on my TV screen. It was a perfect gimmick.

Meanwhile, David Duchovny--bleh.

Gillian Anderson--great.

The rest: a mixed bag.

For every Bryan Cranston giving an amazing performance in an episode long before he was an Oscar nominee and Emmy winner, there's a pre-Courtney Stodden Doug Hutchinson.

And if you're going to restart this long dessicated property, you'd better do a hard reboot.

So why does it have to be cast with white people, especially the white people who already ran the original into the ground?

Because the only who I'd be interested in seeing again is Gillian Anderson and I think she has better shit to do now.

by Anonymousreply 55March 30, 2023 3:57 AM

What next ? A Petticoat Junction set in southside Chicago ? Note they never touch the sacred black shows like The Jeffersons ,Good Times,Sanford and Son,etc. How about a remake of Benson with a bitchy white queen ? Or Whats Happenin with Margo Martindale as Momma? Write some NEW shit !

by Anonymousreply 56March 30, 2023 4:34 AM

Mulder: (To Scully) You in DANGER GURL!

Scully: Ay, caramba! no problemo.

Skinner: Patience Grasshopper!

by Anonymousreply 57March 30, 2023 4:46 AM

R52 White people have been doing it with music for over 100 years. And now it’s not even thought about to the average person.

by Anonymousreply 58March 30, 2023 4:51 AM

Another useless, inferior reboot. With black actors playing Scully and Mulder, of course. It will no doubt be a piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 59March 30, 2023 5:05 AM

R14 LMFAOOO

by Anonymousreply 60March 30, 2023 5:08 AM

R55 no one has said the X-Files is “sacred” but it’s true, no new version will capture what made it special so why bother? Why not do something new instead of risk adverse remakes that will always fail because they get compared to the originals.

by Anonymousreply 61March 30, 2023 5:25 AM

I called the X files sacred and I stand by that statement. It's a big part 90s culture. I also think it raised the bar for writing on TV. Look at the horrendous, low-brow pieces of shit that were on TV back then and look at all the great shows we have now. Did that happen in a vacuum? And yes, there are PLENTY of shitty X-Files episodes but they don't cancel out of the good ones.

by Anonymousreply 62March 30, 2023 5:36 AM

It's unthinkable that this should even be contemplated; would one tamper with the Mona Lisa or the David? On a reverse-related note, (and before it's purged by the thought police) how many contemporary creatives are familiar with "Amos 'n' Andy", originally broadcast on radio in 1928, moved to TV in the 50's, & finally ended in 1960? It's about two black men, their lives/families, & was wildly popular--it was created by two white men, in the minstrel tradition; CBS still owns the TV property.

by Anonymousreply 63March 30, 2023 5:51 AM

Of course there will still be white actors on the show. They'll need villains!

It's just like Lifetime TV movies in the 90s. Whatever the story, you know The Man Did It!

by Anonymousreply 64March 30, 2023 5:57 AM

i heard that gillian does not want to do it, but david does. So david might be in it.

by Anonymousreply 65March 30, 2023 6:03 AM

R65 I always want to do it.

Why? You got a girl? A guy? A goat?

by Anonymousreply 66March 30, 2023 7:08 AM

Sounds awful. You can't reboot a classic.

by Anonymousreply 67April 4, 2023 2:33 AM

The hysteria on this thread and others about “diversity” and shows featuring non-white characters has become tiresome. I watched The Brady Bunch and The Jeffersons when I was a kid. No one in my house had a meltdown. If you think entertainment is not about universal themes and just about reaching a narrow racial/class audience and you cannot find any shared humanity with people different from yourself, then by all means go find what you’re looking for. But these shows you’re bemoaning aren’t harming you.

by Anonymousreply 68April 4, 2023 3:16 AM

Oh get off your fucking cross r68. The X Files is a classic and rebooting it is just tragic. Rebooting it to fit current themes and grievances is just ridiculous. Go make your own original material.

by Anonymousreply 69April 4, 2023 3:23 AM

R69 Would you have told all that to Elvis? Original material, indeed.

by Anonymousreply 70April 4, 2023 3:57 AM

r70 you're pulling shit out of your ass. A reboot of a classic, genre-defining series is totally unnecessary. Remaking the X Files would be like remaking Star Wars. WTF is the point?

by Anonymousreply 71April 4, 2023 4:20 AM

Anything would make the original show more diverse, because its episodes’ characters mostly were decidedly white-bread à la the “Twilight Zone,” more so due to the TV-landscape era. It’d be interesting to see what he comes up with.

by Anonymousreply 72April 4, 2023 4:25 AM

^OK, fixing typo’d previous—apologies:

“Anything would be more diverse than the original show, because its episodes’ characters mostly were decidedly white-bread à la the “Twilight Zone,” more so due to the TV-landscape era. It’d be interesting to see what he comes up with.”

by Anonymousreply 73April 4, 2023 4:28 AM

R71 They didn’t have to remake Star Wars. All they had to do was cast a black guy, an Asian woman, and put Laura Dern in charge of a ship and people lost their minds. Some of them are still having “woke” nightmares because a white guy wasn’t the main hero. That’s what all this hand wringing is about.

by Anonymousreply 74April 4, 2023 5:13 AM

r74 The Skywalker Trilogy sucked in multiple ways.

by Anonymousreply 75April 4, 2023 5:22 AM

Even if the X Files were remade with an all-white cast it would still be a waste of time. You can't remake a classic.

by Anonymousreply 76April 4, 2023 5:23 AM

R72 race-swapping characters doesn’t suddenly make something more interesting. Diversity for diversity’s sake is pointless.

by Anonymousreply 77April 4, 2023 5:25 AM

Paranormal investigations are 100% white people shit. POC don't have time for that.

by Anonymousreply 81April 4, 2023 5:38 AM

Because everything must have a black version now. Ryan is also producing Laverne Cox & Shirley Hemphill and is developing Thelma & Louise Jefferson.

by Anonymousreply 82April 4, 2023 7:46 AM

Shirley's DEAD!!! Are we now giving equal representation to corpses because that could be a drag to watch.

by Anonymousreply 83April 4, 2023 8:03 AM

All of these reboots are tired, lazy, and unnecessary. “Wakanda Forever” was simply awful, so expectations should be tempered for this, should it ever come to pass.

by Anonymousreply 84April 4, 2023 9:01 AM
