The Gays and Tennis: Part 143 Miami continued

starting this thread for obvious reasons

It's been quite an eventful Saturday with lots of hard fought matches. Play is still going on actually as of 10:30 PM EST

by Anonymousreply 365April 4, 2023 4:18 PM

Hurkacz accepted a massive choke from Kokkinakis in 3 tiebreaks

by Anonymousreply 1March 26, 2023 2:43 AM

wow Barrere whips Norrie 6-3 6-2

by Anonymousreply 2March 26, 2023 2:46 AM

R3 wow love that

by Anonymousreply 4March 26, 2023 3:08 AM

Jelena Ostapenko has a healthy appetite.

by Anonymousreply 5March 26, 2023 3:08 AM

where the FUCK did Watanuki come from? He's so fun! No way does he stay so lowly ranked if he keeps playing like this. I want to see him take on Djokovic

by Anonymousreply 6March 26, 2023 3:08 AM

Norrie does best on slow courts and when he's playing against injured players.

by Anonymousreply 7March 26, 2023 3:09 AM

Badosa chokes against Rybakina. She should have won in 2 sets

by Anonymousreply 8March 26, 2023 3:11 AM

My favorite Norrie matches are the walkovers.

by Anonymousreply 9March 26, 2023 3:12 AM

Norrie's coming back from injury. At full flight he can beat anyone. Such a shame injuries seem to plague him.

by Anonymousreply 10March 26, 2023 3:15 AM

Rybakina manages to win even when she’s playing shitty tennis.

by Anonymousreply 11March 26, 2023 3:16 AM

Tiafoe and Watanuki go 3

Shelton and Mannarino go 3

by Anonymousreply 14March 26, 2023 3:31 AM

Mannarino beats Shelton in 3.

by Anonymousreply 15March 26, 2023 3:40 AM

"where the FUCK did Watanuki come from? He's so fun! No way does he stay so lowly ranked if he keeps playing like this. I want to see him take on Djokovic."

Pro tennis players are GOOD - even the ones ranked 100-200 . Numerous other players who never made much of a dent on tour nevertheless had their moments where everyone asked the exact same thing - why aren't they ranked higher? Easy - they don't do it consistently enough. He's played great, but it takes more than a couple good matches to be a to player. Miami could be one-off performance, or maybe it's his beginning of doing this more consistently.

by Anonymousreply 16March 26, 2023 4:10 AM

Tiafoe actually keeps mentally tough for a change and withstands a very difficult challenge by Watanuki. Good match

I hope to see more of Watanuki . Not sure he'll do much on clay but he could be dangerous on grass

R16....you're correct... Pretty much any guy in the top 1000 can really play, it's just consistency day in and day out that is the determining factor.

That is why it always Cracks me up when I read online ignorant people say that Serena could have been some of the lower ranked players! OH PLEASE! Serena would lost to the top 16 and 18 under junior players as well as top and mid level college players all who have no ranking at all!...

by Anonymousreply 25March 26, 2023 1:25 PM

R25 Venus and Serena played a couple of lower-ranked players after their father claimed they could beat any man and were utterly humiliated. I think the players were in the two hundreds but can't remember exactly.

by Anonymousreply 26March 26, 2023 1:31 PM

R26... His name was Karsten Braasch, who was ranked 203 at the time, he played both of them, comically stated afterwards he was smoking and drinking during the match, and he beat venus 6-2 and serena 6-1 in the sets the played.

today, serena, venus, and any top female player would not get a game off the 203 ranked player today if the man took it completely serious.

by Anonymousreply 27March 26, 2023 1:36 PM

R27 Thank you. I nearly got it right.

some of the mid-20s guys could take notes

Alexandrova upsets Bencic 7-6(8) 6-3

by Anonymousreply 34March 26, 2023 7:24 PM

Tommy Paul is so beautiful even these straight players want to get close to him, hug him, touch him. He can sense it and it makes him uncomfortable. Unlike Dimitrov in his prime--he'd hug and touch and even kiss both cheeks. Europe vs USA perhaps.

by Anonymousreply 35March 26, 2023 7:29 PM

Gotta love (major sarcasm) NEPO Prakash and his constant pen in hand, because you know he's such tennis expert on technique and history!...

He come across as the epitome of Smarmy....

by Anonymousreply 36March 26, 2023 7:33 PM

I think ADF is better looking than Paul

by Anonymousreply 37March 26, 2023 7:34 PM

Why are all the male commentators so comically flamboyant, foppish, outrageous one way or another with their comments and what not? Hell, Haber and Courier live to make comments on the male players looks and body, creating new oh oh so funny phrases between them and so on!..

last night, during the Tiafoe match against the Japanese player, the male announcer, not sure who it was said something like "these two are creating magic, they are artists, right up there with the Sistine Chapel!".... WTF..

by Anonymousreply 38March 26, 2023 7:43 PM

Why do the folks at the TC live desk use handheld mics? Partner is in TV and walked in and saw them and was like, why don’t they just mic them?

by Anonymousreply 41March 26, 2023 8:13 PM

ADF @ R30 looks like he wants Tommy to bend him over the net and pump away. Hot.

by Anonymousreply 42March 26, 2023 8:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 43March 26, 2023 8:30 PM

I saw ADF and Shapo at the Palm Springs airport. They were on the same flight to Dallas. Shapo was with Peter Polansky and ADF was with his girlfriend (who looks a bit older than him) and some team members.

by Anonymousreply 44March 26, 2023 8:32 PM

I don't understand how Prakrash Amritraj became a thing in Tennis. I guess having a blip of a career and being the cousin-in-law of Allison Riske qualifies you to be one of the main commentators now?

by Anonymousreply 45March 26, 2023 8:35 PM

Prakash Amritraj took care of himself and didn't turn into a fat, bald, chipmunk-cheeked horror show like Roddick.

by Anonymousreply 46March 26, 2023 8:37 PM

R45 you forgot his father?

I don't mind Prakash with his nice muscles makes for eye candy

by Anonymousreply 47March 26, 2023 8:39 PM

Prakash has good energy. He just needs to take it all down a notch.

by Anonymousreply 48March 26, 2023 8:41 PM

Prakash isn't the best studio guy, but hardly the worst. He always seems performatively hyped, though I think that's jut his energy. A lot of the time it's cool, other times it's annoying.

by Anonymousreply 49March 26, 2023 8:50 PM

Daddy v Rune should be fun.

Props to Dusan for putting up a fight in the second set.

by Anonymousreply 50March 26, 2023 9:10 PM

Former DL fave Pouille (Poohey) gave an interview today to the newspaper l'Equipe, which is behind a paywall and that I haven't been able to read it, but from the comments under the interview you can gather that he first struggled with injuries then clinical depression when the injuries became repetitive, a depression he then went on to self-medicate with booze. It looks like he's back on the straight and narrow but four years have passed without him having any impact on tour. Kudos to him for coming out and talking about his mental struggles.

And the reason why I would mention it is because my gut feeling is that Thiem seems to be stuck in the same negative feedback loop: I think he is depressed even though he's probably not self-medicating yet with alcohol, but even that you couldn't hold against him after he spent almost a year of his life sharing everything with MLadonna (who herself has sunk to some 150-ish ranking and struggles micro-managing and Karening day in day out in nine different languages on the challenger tour).

by Anonymousreply 51March 26, 2023 9:15 PM

^ he was nearly a DL fave for a while -- blond and thicc.

by Anonymousreply 52March 26, 2023 9:19 PM

Prakash is insufferable. I can't stand him, frankly. Super caffeinated, and then with Steven Weisman it's just too much bro. Tennis Channel has decided they're going to go hard BRO and it's too much.

Completely agree, R80.

by Anonymousreply 81March 27, 2023 10:29 PM

Lots of ATP and WTA players have always loved playing in Miami. I've liked visiting Miami, though I've seen the terrible parts. I can forget that for visitors who are in a bubble, it's a dynamic international city, and can be a lot of fun. Though you could probably say this about a lot of cities.

by Anonymousreply 82March 27, 2023 10:32 PM

I will comfort Ruud here in my apartment. Caspar, call me.

by Anonymousreply 83March 27, 2023 10:32 PM

given how well American men are doing lately, it makes one wonder what the first quarter of this season would have been like had Korda, Opelka and Brooksby not all been injured

I mean Fritz, Tiafoe and Paul are leading the way while McDonald has come on very strong this year. Mmoh was having his best season ever until his own injury..

Now Eubanks is on the verge of cracking the top 100 (he needs to win his next match to do so)

by Anonymousreply 84March 27, 2023 10:37 PM

Garin got very tight at 4-4 game point in the third set.

I don't understand why Tsitsipas insisted on playing the Sunshine Double if his shoulder is bothering him. I would have thought he'd rather rested and prepared for the clay season. He's defending Monte Carlo right away

by Anonymousreply 85March 27, 2023 10:39 PM

Kvitova having a great tournament. She just won a tough straight setter against Gracheva

Rybakina, Cirstea, Pegula and Potapova all advance to the next round

very surprising that Trevisan upset Ostapenko on a hardcourt

by Anonymousreply 86March 27, 2023 10:40 PM

It’s called Sunshine Double.

by Anonymousreply 87March 27, 2023 10:46 PM

It suddenly occurred to me that Gaydrien is playing like Miloslav Mecir a.k.a. el gattino: he doesn't seem to hit his strokes like the other players on the tour as much as he flings his arms around, in an extended position, like a cat tries to fling a flying toy away from him. So now I know why I like the way he plays. But seriously he hits 90% of his shot at a slower pace than a lot of the WTA players and the 10 remaining percents he feeds off the tremendous pace generated by the player across the net.

by Anonymousreply 88March 27, 2023 10:47 PM

Hubie team or Mannarino sauce team?

85, I'm happy for Petra. Love a comeback Queen

by Anonymousreply 91March 27, 2023 11:12 PM

R69 Yeah, Ruud's fucked, especially if he doesn't improve on the clay. Missing easy shots and all with a frightened, grit-less look on his face. He hasn't won back to back matches in months. Botic VDZ shouldn't be a threat to any top 10 player. Nice thick calves on him though and his name means Sand Shell

by Anonymousreply 92March 27, 2023 11:28 PM

Ruud is not the same after touring with Nadal, he raped him or something?

I haven't heard a tennis player yell so loudly in pain since Mary Pierce had her career-ending fall

The weird thing is Andreescuu fell after the injury because the pain was so intense she couldn't stand. It was not the fall that caused her injury

it's a shame as she was playing better at this tournament. She's a decent mover but I think her problem is she's heavy on her feet. I'm not talking weight but just she's not a smooth, graceful mover. She throws herself into it and doesn't have the best balance. In her match against Raducanu or Sakkari, I forget which, she fell into a split which is what Kuznetsova and Jankovic used to do

Rybakina vs. Trevisan should be a beatdown

Alcaraz vs. Paul should be a fun match

Pegula vs. Potapova I don't find Potapova that impressive but she's been grinding out a lot of wins this year

Medvedev vs. Halys

Rublev vs. Sinner I remember Medvedev saying Rublev hates that people confuse him with Sinner since they have red longish hair and play bam bam tennis lol

van de Zandschulp vs. Ruusuvuori

injured Tsitsipas vs. Khachanov

Mannarino vs. Eubanks

Cerundolo vs. Sonego the crowd will be very animated

by Anonymousreply 107March 28, 2023 5:54 AM

R107, I read on an earlier thread that his fellow players even call Rublev “Sinner” get a rise out of him.

by Anonymousreply 108March 28, 2023 6:14 AM

R107, why do you think Cerundolo/Sonego will result in a very animated crowd?

by Anonymousreply 109March 28, 2023 6:15 AM

" The weird thing is Andreescuu fell after the injury because the pain was so intense she couldn't stand. It was not the fall that caused her injury

This is a real thing. Same sized people can move drastically different and "light on the feet" is a reality. Some people don't grind into ground as much; don't put their weight down on the surface as much.

by Anonymousreply 110March 28, 2023 6:17 AM

for those of you who didn't see the injury here it is

you can clearly see she got injured before falling to the ground in pain

by Anonymousreply 111March 28, 2023 6:25 AM

I'm hoping it's not a torn Achilles

watching the video it looks like she landed a bit awkwardly on her left foot as it's the one she grabs after dropping the racquet and going down to the ground in pain. It didn't look like a bad ankle roll but who knows

by Anonymousreply 112March 28, 2023 6:30 AM

They needed to cut the courtside microphones way before they did. I feel traumatized after hearing Bianca's screaming. I honestly had some tears in my eyes. The camera lingered on her, too.

Sabalenka is murdering her opponents. I thought Barbora would put up more of a fight but she folded like a cheap card table like the rest. Who's left that can challenge her? Rybakina looks like she needs a week to recharge.

by Anonymousreply 113March 28, 2023 7:24 AM

Dear God, Bianca just can't get out of her own way with the injuries. She and Milos are a sad couple for Canada.

Gaydrian and Sonego are having good runs.

Rybakina is an Ice Queen. She shows nothing - when things are going good or bad. And I don't mean that in a bad way, like she's boring or something.

by Anonymousreply 122March 28, 2023 9:34 PM

^ like Chrissie in her day

by Anonymousreply 123March 28, 2023 9:35 PM

It seems like Chris Eubanks has been around forever, but he's only 26.

by Anonymousreply 124March 28, 2023 9:59 PM

I haven't heard that much about him, but my GAWD he's thin. How does he summon the energy to play 3 set matches?!

by Anonymousreply 125March 28, 2023 10:01 PM

I don't know why I'm so familiar with Eubanks since he's mainly played challengers more so than main tour events and literally just made the Top 100 for the first time this week (his "live" ranking is top 100 after his win in the previous round; not officially until next Monday). But I remember him from college tennis and I always check scores at flashscore.com - which always has the scores for every pro tennis event of the day - whether main tour and main draw, qualifying, Challengers, or Futures. So I guess I've just seen his name a lot and recognized it over the years.

by Anonymousreply 126March 28, 2023 10:12 PM

Rybakina needed that kind of win going into the semis. She seemed kinda down after some of her previous matches.

by Anonymousreply 127March 28, 2023 11:06 PM

Tennis. What does it MEAN you you?

by Anonymousreply 128March 28, 2023 11:24 PM

Tnis year's "Sunshine" Double might as well have been played in Seattle and Portland.

by Anonymousreply 129March 28, 2023 11:26 PM

R127 her first 2 matches were tough battles. She needed an easy match as she continues on in the tournament.

Halys team or Medvedev team?

by Anonymousreply 132March 29, 2023 1:17 AM

I'd forgotten that today it was Имбирь team vs. Il Gingio team. They're showing it now on Tennis Channel during the rain delay. Il Gingio won 6-2, 6-4.

by Anonymousreply 133March 29, 2023 2:33 AM

rain delay finally over

by Anonymousreply 134March 29, 2023 2:57 AM

Peguler.

by Anonymousreply 135March 29, 2023 3:06 AM

R125 he has the same build as Medvedev

by Anonymousreply 136March 29, 2023 3:07 AM

Mannarino sauce team or Eubanks team?

by Anonymousreply 137March 29, 2023 3:08 AM

Pegula , you in danger girl

by Anonymousreply 138March 29, 2023 3:22 AM

after missing wildly for a quick double break, Pegula has now lost 5 straight games to nothing special Potapova

by Anonymousreply 139March 29, 2023 3:27 AM

I think Eubanks is even rangier/thinner than Med - though, yes, they have the same general build. Med is a much better mover.

by Anonymousreply 140March 29, 2023 3:27 AM

I can see Pegula losing this set after all those early opportunities, winning the second set, and then someone will win the third AFTER being down a break. Or, she may even come back in this set. WTA matches often have such a different rhythm due to serves, generally, not being as big of a deal - thus breaks are more common.

by Anonymousreply 141March 29, 2023 3:30 AM

Something about Potapova I find very annoying. Grunts usually don't bother me but hers does. But that's not the full reason.

by Anonymousreply 142March 29, 2023 3:37 AM

Potapova is playing like a monster, hammering that ball with so much rage. Sheesh

by Anonymousreply 143March 29, 2023 3:38 AM

Rybakina or Sabalenka will destroy her. Their serves, if on, will be too much for her and Potapova's serve is average in comparison. Serving in those match ups probably will make the difference.

by Anonymousreply 144March 29, 2023 3:41 AM

[quote] But that's not the full reason.

What is the full reason?

by Anonymousreply 145March 29, 2023 3:44 AM

Pegula seem discombobulated.

by Anonymousreply 146March 29, 2023 3:47 AM

I don't find Potapova that impressive in any area. Solid groundstrokes, OK mover but average serve. She doesn't have any omg shots or attributes

by Anonymousreply 147March 29, 2023 3:47 AM

Pegula doesn't have any OMG shots or attributes - other than her consistently calm demeanor - and she's ranked 3 in the world. Granted she probably won't win Slams, but a player can go far being level and consistent.

by Anonymousreply 148March 29, 2023 3:51 AM

What is Potapova on? She is like the Energizer bunny

by Anonymousreply 149March 29, 2023 3:52 AM

The winner of this will have a hard time against Rybakina. That girl is on fire.

by Anonymousreply 150March 29, 2023 3:52 AM

Pegula isn't the most powerful but she takes the ball early to rob opponents of time and absorbs pace of her opponents well.

Potapova seems pretty generic in comparison but she's playing better so far tonight

by Anonymousreply 151March 29, 2023 3:53 AM

Rybakina Vs Potapova playing like she is tonight, now that I want to see

by Anonymousreply 152March 29, 2023 3:53 AM

I'm getting plenty of gay-content commercials during tennis coverage - Biktarvy/HIV commercial, Indeed commercial with a gay couple, etc. I wonder if it's targeted or everyone gets the same, lol.

by Anonymousreply 153March 29, 2023 3:53 AM

Potapova will tire soon unless she inject more of whatever it is she is on

by Anonymousreply 154March 29, 2023 3:55 AM

It's Miami, the players get an ounce of coke in their tournament gift bag.

by Anonymousreply 155March 29, 2023 3:56 AM

Damn Eubanks has some skinny ass legs. Basically no calves on the dude.

by Anonymousreply 156March 29, 2023 3:56 AM

[quote] I'm getting plenty of gay-content commercials during tennis coverage

by Anonymousreply 157March 29, 2023 3:57 AM

Yes, R157, on Tennis Channel - via Sling.

by Anonymousreply 158March 29, 2023 3:59 AM

Eubanks through.

by Anonymousreply 159March 29, 2023 4:06 AM

Amazing tournament for qualifier Eubanks.

by Anonymousreply 160March 29, 2023 4:07 AM

Huge for Eubanks - gets him into the mid 80s, so he should be able to play the next four Slams without qualifying.

And, during some weeks, he might be able to play some 250s without qualifying.

Still has to qualify for Masters and 500s - though he might attract some wild cards at US tournaments if he's not within rankings cutoff range.

And all of this is based on his current live ranking after tonight's win - obviously he can improve it.

by Anonymousreply 161March 29, 2023 4:12 AM

by Anonymousreply 166March 29, 2023 4:33 AM

Pegula!

by Anonymousreply 167March 29, 2023 4:33 AM

Potapova looks gassed with a really tired appearance but is still running all over that court well. She scrambles pretty well. If she wins this she will be scrambling and defending a lot next rd.

by Anonymousreply 168March 29, 2023 4:45 AM

Potapova is obnoxious with that screaming because it's not consistent

by Anonymousreply 169March 29, 2023 4:50 AM

Love Rybakina the ice queen!!

by Anonymousreply 170March 29, 2023 4:50 AM

Potapova sometimes extends her grunt on purpose to be a hindrance. But several players do. I also never wanna hear this girl scream "come on" again. Very annoying.

by Anonymousreply 171March 29, 2023 4:51 AM

unsurprisingly her idol is Sharapova

by Anonymousreply 172March 29, 2023 4:53 AM

Rybakina, the Nice Ice Queen

by Anonymousreply 173March 29, 2023 4:53 AM

Now she is up a break she isnt even grunting. But last game when it was tight she was screaming her head off. What a fake bitch.

by Anonymousreply 174March 29, 2023 4:55 AM

Porapova and Ben Shelton should have a kid. Think how often they'd scream "COME OOOON."

by Anonymousreply 175March 29, 2023 4:55 AM

wow totally didn't expect Cerundolo to come close to defending his Miami points from last year. Now back into the QF, defeating Sonego in 3 sets

impressed

by Anonymousreply 176March 29, 2023 4:57 AM

Strategic grunting by Potapova

by Anonymousreply 177March 29, 2023 5:00 AM

R177 right? Not even grunting now. But early was doing these obnoxious extended grunts. I hope Rybakina fucking wrecks her if she wins tonight.

by Anonymousreply 178March 29, 2023 5:02 AM

There seem to have been a lot of uncalled lets in the Pegula-Potapova match…like I can hear and/or see the ball make contact with the net, but it’s not setting off the sensor, and the chair umpire isn’t calling them. She also missed that ball that double-bounced on Potapova’s side of the court.

by Anonymousreply 179March 29, 2023 5:04 AM

scream and a miss on second match point

by Anonymousreply 180March 29, 2023 5:07 AM

If the likes of Raducanu and Kenin can win a Slam, Pegula should be able to get there, too. Needs a good draw, some luck and better players to choke... but never say never.

by Anonymousreply 183March 29, 2023 5:13 AM

I forget Pegula is half Korean.

by Anonymousreply 184March 29, 2023 5:17 AM

by Anonymousreply 191March 29, 2023 6:35 AM

Fritz, Paul and Sock have trashy partners because that's what they're interested in. They are trash too. If they were classy they'd easily find classy ladies

by Anonymousreply 197March 29, 2023 2:23 PM

"so true, I guess these guys don't care that these women are using them and laughing at them behind their backs... stupid jocks!"

Please, it's a two-way street. They want a stereotypically hot woman to fuck and be seen with. And they may even like spending time with them and doing stupid shit with them outside of their dedicated tennis careers. If they're being "used," it's not involuntarily.

by Anonymousreply 198March 29, 2023 4:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 199March 29, 2023 4:55 PM

Cirstea upsets Sab. Did not see that coming.

by Anonymousreply 200March 29, 2023 6:34 PM

Sabalenka really had an off day. She never got into the match.

by Anonymousreply 201March 29, 2023 6:37 PM

Cirstea is all of a sudden a good player. She has struggled to string multiple matches together for awhile and is non existent at slams. Wonder what has clicked for her at 32.

by Anonymousreply 202March 29, 2023 6:59 PM

R197 Rune seems totally focused in his career. Of course Musetti said he had no time to date because he wanted to be a top player and four months later he blamed his bad results on the break up of his relaitonship

by Anonymousreply 203March 29, 2023 7:25 PM

Musetti needs to bent over a table and fucked HARD.

by Anonymousreply 204March 29, 2023 8:59 PM

[quote]If they were classy they'd easily find classy ladies

I don't think classy ladies are hell bent on following a tennis player around the world and not doing much else with their life except maybe trying to be social influencers who actually only sell themselves to the highest bidders. Low lives do that. Certainly not the classy ladies around me.

While Pickleball (stupid ass name!) is growing, do we all think it's here to stay or a passing phase fad gone in 5, 10, plus years?

by Anonymousreply 242March 31, 2023 1:28 PM

R242, I have seen John Eisner play pickleball on TV so I thin it's here to stay. My condo complex is replacing of the tennis courts with a pickleball court. Almost every town in NJ has an indoor pickleball court.

An actual pickleball game, with 4 players, is like doubles tennis and is a pretty good full-body workout. Played indoors you can work up quite a sweat.

by Anonymousreply 243March 31, 2023 2:14 PM

Isner playing anything is not an endorsement or sign of increasing pball popularity here, quite the opposite.

by Anonymousreply 244March 31, 2023 3:03 PM

Eisner!

by Anonymousreply 245March 31, 2023 3:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 247March 31, 2023 3:59 PM

"While Pickleball (stupid ass name!) is growing, do we all think it's here to stay or a passing phase fad gone in 5, 10, plus years?"

I think it's here to stay, though I don't know how long it will keep growing. It's social, it's fun, it allows those in athletic decline or those who were never that athletic in the first place to compete in something. Like recreational tennis, there's different levels of seriousness for leagues and tournaments and such. There is a subset of the pickleball crowd that takes it super seriously. I'm amazed at how the sport took off.

I've played and it was okay but I didn't love it. I prefer tennis and platform tennis (played on the same sized court as pickleball but the courts are surrounded by screens (essentially chickenwire fencing) that you can play off of, and the balls are paddles are different. Since I'm a racquet sports person I wouldn't entirely rule pickleball out, but it would probably be when I felt like I couldn't hack other sports well enough for my liking. This isn't to imply that I'd just waltz on over and be good and pickleball, only that the physical burden is less.

by Anonymousreply 248March 31, 2023 4:25 PM

Alcaraz doesn't want anybody else; when he thinks about you he touches himself.

I knew Alcaraz would lose to Sinner. He's like his nemessis. He always lose to him. It's a terrible match-up. I'd say the only ones who can currently beat Alcaraz are the Italians and Djokovic.

by Anonymousreply 282April 1, 2023 7:18 AM

R279 I was actually thinking of placing a bet on Sinner. Just look at their H2H. Some tennis players can beat everyone, yet they struggle with one person. Sinner is that person for Alcaraz. I knew he would lose. I am so disappointed, not surprised, but still sad. I also have to say a huge fuck you to the Miami Open organizers who gave Alcaraz less time to rest between matches than Sinner. I think that also played a role in this loss.

by Anonymousreply 283April 1, 2023 7:20 AM

This loss pains me more than it should. I SO wanted Alcaraz to become historic, youngest to win both of the sunshine doubles in the same year as a teenager. I feel like he let everyone down when he lost, not only himself.

by Anonymousreply 284April 1, 2023 7:22 AM

It’s called Sunshine Double.

by Anonymousreply 285April 1, 2023 7:24 AM

From now on I'm gonna put money on Sinner every time. This is Fedal all over again. Federer could win against everyone.... except Nadal. Same shit with Alcaraz. Sinner has a way of getting into his head. It's just a terrible match up for him. He's basically a mental midget every match they play. When I heard Sinner was Alcaraz' next opponent I just knew he was gonna lose. I am so mad and disappointed in Alcaraz. Starting to wonder if maybe he should fire his coach. I feel like he has regressed in the past few months. I am not seeing any improvements. Sinner on the other hand is making massive progress. Thanks Alcaraz, thanks to you the MAGAt anti-vaxxer shithead is #1 again. I want to puke.

by Anonymousreply 286April 1, 2023 7:48 AM

He is mental midget.

by Anonymousreply 287April 1, 2023 7:50 AM

He is mental midget.

by Anonymousreply 288April 1, 2023 7:56 AM

R286 you do realized Carlos just beat Sinner a week or so ago, right? At another Masters 1000 hardcourt tourney?

And he beat Sinner at the USO last year?

They are very, very evenly matched. It's going to be a rivalry for the next ten years much like Rafa and Novak. Each will have runs, depending on surface and form.

Just enjoy the amazing tennis.

by Anonymousreply 289April 1, 2023 8:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 290April 1, 2023 8:06 AM

R289 I was about to say the exact same thing.

As much as I love the rivalry, I have to say that watching that kind of brutal tennis for more than an hour is exhausting. They are 19 and 21 respectively, can we watch them play that same kind of intense game for 10-15 more years? yesterday, I was exhausted after the first set and after the second set I decided I could not watch it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 291April 1, 2023 8:12 AM

R289 Doesn't matter. Sinner still has a positive H2H against Alcaraz. Just wait, next time they play the odds will be on Sinner to win. I still favor Sinner in every match they play. Alcaraz is a mental midget when playing him.

by Anonymousreply 292April 1, 2023 8:20 AM

R289 Why would I enjoy Sinner winning when I'm a fan of Alcaraz?!

by Anonymousreply 293April 1, 2023 8:21 AM

R292, they're tied 3-3 head to head. But feel free to think Sinner has Carlos' number. I just don't think the stats point to that as a reality. At least not yet. This is not Rafa v Fed, where Fed just couldn't beat Rafa anywhere besides Wimby (and he even lost there eventually).

R293, I get being a fan of one player over the another in a heated rivalry. I'm a Rafa fan and I hate it when Novak beats him. It actually depresses me. But I have come to appreciate the endless amazing matches/points that Rafa and Novak have displayed over the years. Even the ones Rafa lost.

My advice was to enjoy the "journey" not just your guy's wins. Or not. I don't actually care. Haha.

by Anonymousreply 294April 1, 2023 8:37 AM

Carlos needs to fire JCF. He is not progressing the way he should be. JFC deserves credit for getting Carlos to the top 10. But I feel like he needs a different coach to take him a step further.

by Anonymousreply 295April 1, 2023 8:45 AM

Il Gingio, bitches!

by Anonymousreply 296April 1, 2023 10:22 AM

R292 Sorry but that's beyond dumb. Their h2h is 3-3 (and even Carlos won their challenger match). And Carlos won at the US Open saving match points.

Unlike most top players Sinner has weapons to cause damage to Carlos and both seem very concious that their rivaldry will make them grow as players.

I really like the sportmanship between them (Carlos said he was going to cheer for Jannik at the handshake)

by Anonymousreply 297April 1, 2023 10:25 AM

Carlitos has fish mouth.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 298April 1, 2023 10:27 AM

And the comparission between Rafa and Roger is simply ridiculous.

Rafa dominated their h2h even when Roger was clearly the better player back then (when the rivaldry started), and of course Roger was older and already a number one and a Slam winner the first time they played. In this case it's Sinner the one who is older.

Jannik is able to cause trouble to Carlos' game but there's no dominance in their rivladry right now (in fact Carlos won more easily at IW just a couple of weeks ago)

by Anonymousreply 299April 1, 2023 10:27 AM

Boobs out for the biggest winner of the week. Novaxx becomes number 1 for the 380th week without picking up a racquet. Wimbledon will award points and the US is changing the covid policy to allow him to play in US Open.

by Anonymousreply 300April 1, 2023 3:13 PM

Djokovic will also be able to play Cincinnati this year.

by Anonymousreply 301April 1, 2023 3:19 PM

They didn't change the policy just for Novak.

by Anonymousreply 302April 1, 2023 3:26 PM

Yeah, allowing him to..., happy now?

by Anonymousreply 303April 1, 2023 4:12 PM

R299 The comparison between them and Roger and Nadal is also Ridiculous because both Alcarez and Sinner are better players on all surfaces at younger age then Nadal. Nadal certainly dominated Federer on clay but he really wasn’t in the mix on the other surfaces until 2006-7. Nadal and Federer never met at the US Open. R295 Honestly you really think he should fire Ferraro after losing 1 match give me a break.

by Anonymousreply 304April 1, 2023 5:25 PM

Scarecrow Novaxx will be 36 next month. Please make this the year when his ranking drops off a cliff and his remaining slams flop hard, tennis gods.

by Anonymousreply 305April 1, 2023 5:47 PM

Alcaraz was injured two out of the three times that Sinner beat him.

by Anonymousreply 306April 1, 2023 6:03 PM

Federer fell off after he turned 37 right? Hopefully the same happens to the douchebag number 1 player.

by Anonymousreply 307April 1, 2023 6:06 PM

Nadal natural game gave Roger nightmares from the beginning.

It's true most of their matches were on clay (when Rafa is simply the best) but the first time they met was in Miami and teen Nadal trashed Federer who was number one back then (63 63).

Nadal never needed to play better than Roger to win because his forehand gaves Roger tons of trouble and because he was mentally stronger so if the match was tight in the end it went for Rafa most of the times

by Anonymousreply 308April 1, 2023 6:14 PM

In other news, Paul Annacone is kind-of a daddy.

by Anonymousreply 309April 1, 2023 6:33 PM

Not as good as Mark Knowles, though.

by Anonymousreply 310April 1, 2023 6:39 PM

let's set the record straight

including the challenger, Alcaraz is now 4-3 against Sinner

2019 Alicante Alcaraz def. Sinner 6-2 3-6 6-3

2021 Paris Masters Alcaraz def. Sinner 7-6 7-5

2022 Wimbledon Sinner def. Alcaraz 6-1 6-4 6-7 6-3

2022 Umag Sinner def. Alcaraz 6-7 6-1 6-1

2022 USO Alcaraz def. Sinner 6-3 6-7 6-7 7-5 6-3

2023 Indian Wells Alcaraz def. Sinner 7-6 6-3

2023 Miami Sinner def. Alcaraz 6-7 6-4 6-2

by Anonymousreply 311April 1, 2023 6:50 PM

question: does Jim Courier ever shut the fuck up! Is he getting paid by the word he spews? Do Courier and that other FOP Haber ever shut up with their comments on the player's bodies and like teen girls their inside made up jokes and phrases..

And that Petchey guy (never heard of him before) is so over the top with his comments he's ridiculous! Comparing every point almost like it's the greatest point every played, comparing players as artists and creating art right up there with the Sistine Chapel (WTF!) and so on....

by Anonymousreply 312April 1, 2023 6:50 PM

Mark Petchey was a journeyman player. He has 1 doubles title. He got to the third round of Wimbledon once. He had better success briefly coaching a young Andy Murray

by Anonymousreply 313April 1, 2023 6:56 PM

[quote]How did I miss this, DL faves Taylor Townhouse and Leyla Fernandez are still in the dubs!

They even made the final and will play against Call me Coco and Pegula

by Anonymousreply 314April 1, 2023 6:56 PM

time for the ladies' final!

BATTLE OF WIMBLEDON CHAMPS!

the h2h is tied 1-1

by Anonymousreply 315April 1, 2023 6:59 PM

Basically, anyone can get a job at the Tennis Channel, if they had any remote aspect of a career and in the right place and/or know someone at the Channel...

By the way who is the blonde bimbo at the desk with NEPO smarmy Prakash?

by Anonymousreply 316April 1, 2023 6:59 PM

Kvitova used to struggle in Miami because of the heat and humidity combined with her asthma

very impressive that she has reached the final in her 13th appearance at the tournament

by Anonymousreply 317April 1, 2023 7:09 PM

Mike Tyson in attendance

by Anonymousreply 318April 1, 2023 7:10 PM

Petra served for the first set at 5-4 but Elena broke back and now we have a tiebreak

by Anonymousreply 319April 1, 2023 7:55 PM

Petraaaaa!

by Anonymousreply 320April 1, 2023 8:17 PM

"In other news, Paul Annacone is kind-of a daddy."

Surprisingly. He was fine looking but decidedly average when younger. The gray hair suits him; he's working it.

by Anonymousreply 321April 1, 2023 8:36 PM

Annacone is a good commentator. He's an astute observer of the game and he has a soothing voice.

by Anonymousreply 322April 1, 2023 9:04 PM

R316, I looked her up. She’s had a career covering various pro sports. (I actually thought she was a newbie because she’s not that impressive to me.)

by Anonymousreply 323April 1, 2023 9:23 PM

I want Annacone to fuck me hard as he quietly talks about the spin on Rafa's forehand.

That's weird, right?

by Anonymousreply 324April 1, 2023 9:41 PM

I think I'd rather fuck Rafa as Annacone quietly talks about the spin on Rafa's forehand.

But you do you!

I'm willing to bet Daddy fucks better than all these stupid top guys. Alcaraz has not sexual entry like Med. Tommy is prettier but I bet Daddy fucks much better.

[quote] Alcaraz has not sexual entry like Med.

by Anonymousreply 329April 2, 2023 1:12 AM

Damn auto correct. No sexual energy*.

by Anonymousreply 330April 2, 2023 1:14 AM

Carlos is a kid. He looks so innocent and naive

by Anonymousreply 331April 2, 2023 1:49 AM

Carlos looks like he'd get totally over-excited and blow his load after 2 thrusts. No that I've thought about it or anything.

by Anonymousreply 332April 2, 2023 6:20 AM

Lesbians! Are you fans of Rybakina?

by Anonymousreply 333April 2, 2023 6:53 AM

Daddy just looks like a more sexual person than Carlitos. But maybe that's cause we know he's a horny guy.

by Anonymousreply 334April 2, 2023 7:34 AM

Rybakina doesn't looks like someone the lezzies would lust after. They would be pinning more for tomboy Iga.

by Anonymousreply 335April 2, 2023 11:55 AM

Il Gingio team or Medvedev team?

by Anonymousreply 336April 2, 2023 5:27 PM

Med team

by Anonymousreply 337April 2, 2023 5:30 PM

Not too fussed either way on this one, but I'll go for Il Gingio for a change up... and if he wins it slaps The Brat down one place in the rankings which is always a good result!

by Anonymousreply 338April 2, 2023 5:36 PM

Go Jannick!

by Anonymousreply 339April 2, 2023 5:50 PM

There's a fat, short ball "man" with a beard.

by Anonymousreply 340April 2, 2023 6:08 PM

The Kvitova stabbing incident always struck me as odd...like there is definitely more to the story than we were told...

by Anonymousreply 341April 2, 2023 6:12 PM

Daneel wins first set 7-5.

by Anonymousreply 342April 2, 2023 6:14 PM

R. Daneel Olivaw wins.

by Anonymousreply 347April 2, 2023 6:59 PM

Sinner really hates Medvedev.

by Anonymousreply 349April 2, 2023 7:03 PM

Hasn't Med said that himself, at least jokingly?

by Anonymousreply 350April 2, 2023 7:10 PM

[quote] Hasn't Med said that himself, at least jokingly?

Yes. He even discussed it during the trophy ceremony and in the post-match interview on Tennis Channel.

by Anonymousreply 351April 2, 2023 7:36 PM

Townhouse/DL anti-fave Leylah Fernandez team or Pegula/Gauff team?

by Anonymousreply 352April 2, 2023 7:37 PM

Gauff Club Team.

I was hoping Il Gingio would pull off the upset. Che vergogna!

by Anonymousreply 353April 2, 2023 9:03 PM

Pegula and Gauff won. Poor Leylah, will she ever regain her 2021 form...?

by Anonymousreply 354April 3, 2023 12:57 AM

Off topic but, did anyone else watch McEnroe, Chang, Roddick, and Agassi play pickleball this weekend? Steffi was there and John got her out of the audience to play a point. Of course, the match was for charity but it was a lot of fun to watch. Agassi said he'd definitely do it again, if invited. Pickleball may indeed be here to stay.

by Anonymousreply 355April 3, 2023 3:23 PM

Wow! Holger Rune no longer working with (disgusting) Patrick Mourmoron

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 356April 3, 2023 3:58 PM

R356 The Brat is claiming it was a 'fixed term' arrangement - which could be true, of course. However, Rune's momentum has definitely stalled so far this season so maybe PM was shitcanned.

by Anonymousreply 357April 3, 2023 4:38 PM

Is there a separate thread for the Charleston Open that started yesterday? I started to watch Sloan Stevens but she looked and played like she'd rather have root canal without novocaine. She had no energy!

by Anonymousreply 358April 4, 2023 12:02 PM

There's usually no separate specific tournament threads, R358. Maybe a Slam sometimes, but not usually. Though a specific tournament might be featured in the "The Gays and Tennis: Part X" thread. And traffic on the tennis threads ebbs and flows. It's sort of a dead zone this week as the clay season begins with smaller tournaments and the French Open doesn't start until the end of May. But there will be big combined clay events in Madrid and Rome leading up to the French. Plus the men have Monte Carlo fairly soon - that's a big Masters event for them.

by Anonymousreply 359April 4, 2023 1:15 PM

Is Gauff a doubles specialist now?

by Anonymousreply 360April 4, 2023 2:29 PM

No, R360. She's recently more successful in doubles (in terms of tournament placement) but she's by no means a specialist.

by Anonymousreply 361April 4, 2023 2:35 PM

Both Alcaraz and Nadal are out of Monte Carlo.
