I watched some of the trial on Friday. I'm no fan of Paltrow but she handled everything well.

He said was an optometric physician, which, according to him, is some sort of überoptometrist with hospital privileges and advanced training.

In fact, any optometrist is an optometric physician or a doctor of optometry. While optometrists can apply for hospital privileges, they're not interchangeable with ophthalmologists. That seemed to be the impression he going for with his answer.

They'll get called in to dilate an ED patient because an ophthalmologist isn’t about to get out of bed for that, or they’ll do refractions for inpatients, e.g., the elderly woman who’s wearing 20-year-old reading glasses or the guy who comes in with smashed glasses after a car accident.
