Why didnt you bitches tell me that seeing Fleetwood Mac live was like watching an HBO drama series happen in real time?

My goodness, THE DRAMA! You see Stevie look at Lindsey numerous times through the performance of “Silver Springs”, but when they get to the bridge she stares at him, singing out the lyrics with PASSION as he stares back. It’s something out of a drama series, only it’s fucking real life 🤣 💀

Skip to the 3:40 mark if you do not wanna see the entire performance. That’s when it starts. If I were there in the audience I would be more intrigued by the drama than the song!

PS Stevie still sounds phenomenal there.

Her voice was so great back then. She should have stopped after that tour. I can't believe she still thinks she should be singing live.

I saw them on that tour. It was a terrific show.

Loved her voice

If you had trashed our show, OP, then I would personally have to kick you in the cunt bone.

I really enjoyed that Concert and the live album The Dance. It was so good. I was in school then and watched that concert on VH1, bought all the media (CD and Video of the concert). I also watched the VH1 Behind the Music episode produced near that same time. I think it was a high point for that band. Maybe not as successful as Rumours but still amazing.

I think think the technical production of that concert was very expensive and sophisticated, with dozens of guitar technicians and things like that.

I even enjoyed that rendition of TUSK with the USC Marching Band. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were both in full voice, and Christine McVie, too. McVie’s stage presence was so appealing. She was like this wise and wonderful and sensitive Songbird, pun intended. I was so sad when she passed away.

by Anonymousreply 8March 23, 2023 11:53 PM

It’s their schtick on that song. I’ve seen them about a dozen times. One tour in the early 00s I think I swear she put a curse on him. Other shows I saw it wouldn’t have been a surprise if they started hate fucking on stage. There is a lot of palpable chemistry between them and they play off of it.

It sucks how the band ended with Lindsay getting fired, the last tour cancelled and now Christine dead.

by Anonymousreply 9March 23, 2023 11:53 PM

I saw them live a thousand years ago and there was, in fact, far more drama than at normal rock shows.

Stevie refused to come out for half of the show and when she did she sounded like shit. Mick Fleetwood kept puking over in his area of the stage and then he disappeared. Then everyone left the stage and Stevie stayed on to sing and twirl around, continuing to sing poorly.

Christine McVie was great, she outclassed Stevie by a country mile. John McVie and Lindsey Buckingham were fine. Lindsey was better than fine on one or two numbers. Good guitarist.

You could tell that they all hated each other.

by Anonymousreply 10March 23, 2023 11:54 PM

R9 I didn't realize their last tour was cancelled

by Anonymousreply 11March 23, 2023 11:54 PM

R15 I'm surprised that The Stones still tour without Charlie since he and Mick were good friends for a long time. When John Bonham died, Led Zeppelin called it quits. They were devastated.

by Anonymousreply 17March 24, 2023 1:06 AM

Their last tour was not cancelled. However it went on with Neil Finn, of all people, and Mike Campbell and replacing Lindsey. A limp finish to their long history. The reunion tour they did with Christine in 2013 or so should really have been the end.

by Anonymousreply 18March 24, 2023 2:12 AM

[quote]Then everyone left the stage and Stevie stayed on to sing and twirl around, continuing to sing poorly.

LOL, this is classic.

by Anonymousreply 19March 24, 2023 2:17 AM

Stevie is an enigma wrapped in a mystery, shrouded by a veil of ambiguity.

by Anonymousreply 20March 25, 2023 4:39 PM

I love Stevie.

This shouldn’t be surprising. Supposedly they used to get into full on arguments on stage years ago. Thank God smart phones didn’t exist in the 70s and 80s.

by Anonymousreply 21March 25, 2023 5:54 PM

This is from 1997. Stevie looks good there and sounds very, very good. I don't think that's the most challenging song, vocally, for her to sing, though.

When Lindsey comes in with "Time cast a spell on you, but you won't forget me," it's an awesome moment. I love that they stare each other down a little.

Stevie always makes eye contact, though, with the other singers on stage. She does it with Tom Petty (Stop Dragging My Heart Around). She also seems to really respect & appreciate her female background singers.

Someone who lived close to one of Stevie's vacation homes told me that Stevie is a lesbian.

I did see FM in concert in the late '70s or early '80s. Stevie was drinking Jack Daniels on stage. I don't remember it being a great concert.

by Anonymousreply 22March 25, 2023 9:10 PM

Some Pluto Free TV channel has 70s music, and they ran a few videos of Fleetwood Mac live back in the seventies. There's one song where Stevie looked fab in her white glittery things, but she was terrible, staggering around like she was going to fall off of her heels and looking and sounding like she was drunk and/or struggling not to cry, totally off pitch and hoarse. The other band members looked pissed, was there ever a moment when there was NOT some intra-band drama going on?

The band's career is one long damn improvised soap opera, and BTW when you see that level of ongoing drama in a group of people that usually means there's one shit-stirring drama queen. Who was it, Stevie, or Lindsay?

by Anonymousreply 23March 25, 2023 11:16 PM

No. It can be all of them are drama queens. Which they are.

by Anonymousreply 24March 25, 2023 11:20 PM

I went to see Stevie in concert in the 80s. She had a terrible cold so she was late to start. You can imagine what her voice sounded like. Deep croaking and mule braying. She should’ve canceled.

by Anonymousreply 25March 25, 2023 11:36 PM

If you want to see real drama and FM in all their youthful glory and beauty, check out their 1982 Mirage tour. It was an HBO special and has to be one of the best live concerts I've seen. Rumor is that they were all high on coke.

Stevie and Lindsay were broken up for 5 years but it looks like their affair was still ongoing. It starts with The Chain and Lindsay singing his ass off and vocalizing all his anger, hurt and pain towards Stevie and ends with him helplessly leaning against her while she sings Sister of the Moon.

This was a 2-day concert at a music festival in LA. He was angry for some reason on the first day but they must have hate-fucked each other because the next day, they were all sweet and flirty with each other. It's mostly Lindsay who is angry, Stevie is as cool as cucumber.

by Anonymousreply 26March 25, 2023 11:43 PM

Stevie was also fucking Mick Fleetwood, i.e., the boss of the group, at some point.

Actually, I'm not sure if Mick was the boss, but the name of the group is "Fleetwood Mac."

by Anonymousreply 27March 25, 2023 11:54 PM

Usually the boss of a band isn't the front man or woman, but someone who gets less attention and who devotes their time to keeping things running rather than being famous - like the boss of AC/DC was the rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young.

But I suspect one reason that there was so much chaos and infighting in Fleetwood Mac was that there wasn't a dominant personality, no "boss", but every band member thought they were the boss. Or should be.

by Anonymousreply 28March 26, 2023 12:46 AM

r28 and obvious sexual tension...

the phrase "don't shit where you eat" is rarely heeded despite everyone knowing the drama it brings.

by Anonymousreply 29March 26, 2023 1:26 AM

Lindsay was physically abusive to Stevie Nicks and the ex-gf he was living with in the 80s. He also suffers from Asperger's and epilepsy so I wonder if this contributes to his anger issues although that is no excuse for domestic abuse. The weird thing is why did these two people stay in this band so long. FM was wildly successful but is it worth the price of your mental health?

Even though LB had several gfs, there is no doubt that Stevie and he were not over and that's not healthy. LB finally broke away in 1987 but only after getting into a physical altercation with Stevie in the parking lot where he almost killed her. Yes, this is good stuff for a great HBO mini-series.

by Anonymousreply 30March 26, 2023 1:39 AM

Everyone focuses on Stevie because she was the bands breakout star but she wasn’t the center of all drama. That entire band had never ending drama. They were all druggies and drinkers with a lot of different personalities that clashed often.

And they ALWAYS had drama. There was the time Lindsay threw a guitar at Stevie, or the time Lindsay tripped Stevie on stage and then Christine and him got into it backstage and she slapped him. Or the time Christine and him got into an argument and she threw a drink in his face. Or the Tango in the Night sessions where Lindsay ended up chasing Stevie and slamming her into a car and choking her.

We can keep going. Lol.

by Anonymousreply 31March 26, 2023 1:44 AM

Lindsay also dragged Carol Ann Harris through Christine’s driveway and beat her.

by Anonymousreply 32March 26, 2023 1:47 AM

That concert they did for The Dance was the best I think I ever heard them sound. There was a maturity to their playing and to their voices that gave their songs a different feel. Even Lyndsay was great, and I always disliked him intensely.

by Anonymousreply 33March 26, 2023 2:02 AM

They’re all the rage on TikTok again. There are tons of old performances of them and interviews etc. going viral all over TikTok. Gen Z is discovering them… again.

Because of Daisy Jones and the Six, which is inspired by them.

by Anonymousreply 34March 26, 2023 2:12 AM

Daisy Jones and The Six is a tame sanitized lackluster version of FM. The real version of FM will never be made while SN and LB are alive. Both will have to be broke and begging for money first.

ITA, Gen Z is discovering FM again. Rumors has been on Billboard 200 since 2020 and went up to no. 28 most popular. Gen Z is discovering a time when music wasn't mass-produced by 50 people in a corporation but by real emotions and creativity and actual instruments, not a software program.

It's funny how Stevie finally closed the door on Lindsay but fate put a foot against that door. They will always be attached to one another.

by Anonymousreply 35March 26, 2023 2:30 AM

I can’t think of anything worse than having to deal with my asshole ex for the next 50 years.

by Anonymousreply 36March 26, 2023 5:55 AM

They seem to like the drama.

by Anonymousreply 37March 26, 2023 6:03 AM

They were definitely playing up the drama in that performance too. They know what sells.

by Anonymousreply 38March 26, 2023 6:08 AM

Rumors was the perfect title.

by Anonymousreply 39March 26, 2023 3:48 PM

Stevie had a massive hit with her first solo album and the rumor was that she placed a signed copy of her album in his dressing room and he flipped out. Nicks should have quit the band after her success instead of taking the abuse but times were different then. She said it was difficult for a female solo act in the 80s but that shows how dependent she was on her male bandmates.

by Anonymousreply 40March 27, 2023 2:05 AM

She did well and had hits.

by Anonymousreply 41March 27, 2023 2:14 AM

I think that was around 1982. If Anyone Falls is about him.

by Anonymousreply 44March 27, 2023 3:31 AM

R31, R32, seems all the drama revolves around Lindsay being in a fight or throwing some woman around. The man is an extremely talented musician and arranger, had everything going for him, even Botticelli good looks but he was/is a creep with anger issues.

Stevie fired him during the MeToo movement because memories of his physical abuse came back.

by Anonymousreply 51March 27, 2023 4:27 PM

No, Buckingham was quite good-looking when he was young, good-looking enough to be attractive even with the excess hair of the early 1970s. Too bad he seems to be something between an asshole and a monster.

A few times over the years, I've heard a rumor that Stevie is a Witch, the sort of witch who practices white magic.

I'd be happy if that were true, white witches are cool ladies, but I can certainly see why someone wouldn't want to come out as a witch in the modern USA. Particularly if they want to sell stuff to the mainstream.

by Anonymousreply 53March 27, 2023 11:21 PM

Lindsey and Stevie get all the press for the tales of drama in the group, but that group has been an ongoing dysfunctional mess since its inception.

Guitarist Peter Green suffered from schizophrenia and ended up leaving the band.

Guitarist Jeremy Spencer simply disappeared while the band was the touring the US. Turned out he'd impulsively joined the Children of God, a religious sex cult that preyed on their own children.

Guitarist Danny Kirwan was fired because his drug/drink issues and conflict with other members of the group.

Guitarist Bob Welch, whose resignation led to the hiring of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, was by the decision of the band not included in Fleetwood Mac's lineup for their induction into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame - which he believed was in retaliation for the lawsuit he'd filed about being shorted of his share of the band's royalties.

Christine married bassist John McVie, whose raging alcoholism and tendency to violence led to their eventual divorce. Christine's affair with the band's lighting director during the Fleetwood Mac album tour/recording of Rumours, added to the tension while Rumours was being recorded.

Mick Fleetwood took over managing the band shortly before Buckingham/Nicks joined, and effortlessly mis-managed it for several years afterward - until the band discovered he'd blown through not only all his money, but much of their money, too. Once Christine/Stevie/Lindsey realized how much of their songwriting royalties had been lost (actually, stolen), they fired him as manager. Speaking of Mick, not only was he continually cheating on his wife, but he stupidly engaged in an affair with Stevie shortly after her break with Lindsey. Lindsey knew it, which only added to the bad blood within the band.

Honestly, Fleetwood Mac deserved its own reality show. It could've run for years with every season featuring a band member swap with another band who had its own problematic member. Such as swapping Lindsey for David Crosby of CSN, or Grace Slick for Stevie, etc.

by Anonymousreply 54March 28, 2023 12:04 AM

I used to think that the story of Fleetwood Mac deserved a miniseries adaptation, but then I realized that all the fighting would get old very fast!

No, the band of that era who needs a movie or miniseries adapatation is the Bee Gees. The rise and fall and rise of three cheerful Australian brothers, and then the Icarus-like rise and fall of their youngest brother, it'd be a dramatic family story with both some heart and a great soundtrack. Seriously, is anyone working on this?

by Anonymousreply 55March 28, 2023 4:57 AM

People are more fascinated by FM because this was the first and only rock band with 2 females and a very attractive sexy couple who may or may not be involved. Even though they said they were no longer a couple, they were still hooking up occasionally, even on top of an amplifier, lol.

by Anonymousreply 56March 28, 2023 5:35 AM

As R35 mentioned, Daisy and the Six seems to be reviving interest in FM. I looked at a clip and it was awful.

I'll stick with watching FM's brilliant messiness on YouTube.

by Anonymousreply 57March 28, 2023 5:55 AM

The drama is more interesting than the music. Their songs are so fucking boring!

by Anonymousreply 59March 28, 2023 6:09 AM

Lindsay was better looking that Stevie, but she had better hair.

by Anonymousreply 60March 28, 2023 6:20 AM

Never heard it before. I like it.

by Anonymousreply 61March 28, 2023 11:35 PM

[quote] Mick Fleetwood said the touring days are over now that Christine is gone.

I hope that's true, but you never know. If enough money beckons, Nicks, Fleetwood and McVie might decide to get a couple of replacements and go on a tour as "The New Fleetwood Mac." But it would surely suck. They're all dinosaurs. They should have retired years ago.

by Anonymousreply 62March 28, 2023 11:42 PM

[quote] Someone who lived close to one of Stevie's vacation homes told me that Stevie is a lesbian.

I don't believe that. I think she just swings both ways. She seemed to like to surround herself with pretty young women who vaguely resembled herself; same hair, same makeup, same style. In their memoir Ann and Nancy Wilson said they became chummy with Stevie. They were invited to her house; they said it was like "a shrine to Stevie", with pictures of her everywhere. They went into her bedroom and began trying on her clothes; sounds like a scenario out of a lesbian porno film, doesn't it? Anyway, the friendship with Stevie eventually withered; Ann and Nancy said they couldn't keep up wither her, drugs-wise.

by Anonymousreply 63March 28, 2023 11:53 PM

R60 Lindsey's looks are more than 50 percent due to his wonderful curly hair. He's attractive but not much without the curls.

by Anonymousreply 64March 29, 2023 1:08 AM

FM is done but people aren't done with FM. Rumors is still on Billboard 200 at no. 20 last week. Lindsay wants to re-release the first album he did with Nicks but she's not answering his calls or emails. The first album is becoming popular again but it's very rare.
