Do you think the prevalence of male homosexuality has fluctuated over time?

You'd think the ratio of gay men in the general population has stayed relatively constant. Some might disagree.

What are your thoughts?

It was always, but was it acted upon as often in the those days? I would think no just due to societal pressures and lack of connectivity.

Good looking, but look like they both need a whole tube of Lume.

by Anonymousreply 5March 23, 2023 4:48 AM

20% of teenagers now say they're LGBT. We used to be what, 4%? Our numbers haven't grown. We can just be honest now.

It was obvious to me when I was a teenager that we were more than 4%. Now the numbers more closely reflect the truth.

Whether the femme bottoms who are 100% gay believe it or not, there are a lot of bisexuals. Sexuality for those on either far side of the Kinsey scale is biological or nature, for those in the middle it’s a mix of nature and nurture. Straights and full gays don’t understand bisexuality. We’re also black and white thinkers as a society now, nuance is dead.

by Anonymousreply 7March 23, 2023 5:35 AM

r7 I actually think most people are bisexual. That's what Freud believed. Most just suppress the same-sex attraction for obvious reasons in a Judeo-Christian society.

by Anonymousreply 8March 23, 2023 7:05 AM

r7 absurd. Porn viewing habits alone would show otherwise - but analytics has shown its about 5% of porn usage is gay porn, which is about what we think homosexuality is most reasonable guesses being between 3 at the low end and 6ish at the high end. Studies on male bisexuality have found conclusive evidence that it *exists*, but most of those fall heavily to one side of the spectrum and those showing a bisexual arousal pattern are not common. There may at most be about as many bi men as gay men. But thats at absolute most, its likely less than gay.

by Anonymousreply 9March 23, 2023 7:59 AM

Problematic poll - two of the choices are essentially the same.

[quote]Whether the femme bottoms who are 100% gay believe it or not

What about the 100% gay tops?

by Anonymousreply 11March 23, 2023 9:49 AM

R7 you're saying that the fem bottoms are more gay then the 100% tops?

by Anonymousreply 12March 23, 2023 9:52 AM

You do realize that "No" and "It has stayed more or less the same" are the same answer.

by Anonymousreply 13March 23, 2023 9:58 AM

OP are all Eldergays as hot as the two in your post? I've noticed i like those looks better than the gymbods of today.

by Anonymousreply 14March 23, 2023 10:22 AM

I think homosexual behavior has fluctuated over time quite a bit. I think there have always been people who (also) desired members of their own sex. Depending on cultural openness and opportunity, many people probably never acted out on it though.

That said, I also think a big part of today's understanding of homosexuality is strongly socially constructed. To be honest, I think sexuality is too complex and, frankly, too situational to easily reduce it to a few categories. Homosexuality as a distinct social identity is a pretty recent thing. It's probably a logical step of liberalism in a society that tends to be averse to non-normative sexuality. I think, in societies where other conceptions of sexuality exist(ed) (e.g., in ancient Greece and Rome), there were different social categories in place (specifically, penetrator/high-status vs. penetrated/low-status).

by Anonymousreply 15March 23, 2023 10:58 AM

It is certainly lower today than in classical antiquity. In imperial China and Edo Japan, there are many accounts of female prostitutes growing poor or having to migrate because they couldn't compete with their male colleagues after the tastes of the time changed. So it's not static.

by Anonymousreply 16March 23, 2023 11:22 AM

[quote] Depending on cultural openness and opportunity, many people probably never acted out on it though.

All Arab men fuck men. What does that say about homosexual behaviour.

by Anonymousreply 17March 23, 2023 11:51 AM

R17 but aren't there quite rigid ideas about the gender of the male who is fucked?

by Anonymousreply 18March 23, 2023 11:57 AM

No r18 gender is a projection of current Western ideas. They fuck pretty young boys and men who don't necessarily identify themselves a women.

Come to think of it, the pretty young bottoms probly grew to become older tops in their turn.

/ The Persian Boy

by Anonymousreply 20March 23, 2023 12:10 PM

R15, I'm sure that the amount homosexual behavior has fluctuated a lot depending on social circumstances. I suspect that the percentage of men who are attracted exclusively to other adult men has stayed the same, although I know that that's unprovable.

by Anonymousreply 21March 23, 2023 12:13 PM

[quote]Do you think the prevalence of male homosexuality has fluctuated over time?

This is literally impossible to determine, because so many gay men in so many different societies fee and have felt the need to be closeted, so even if there were surveys taken back in the day, they can't be considered reliable. Since that is the case, what does it matter what any of us "think" about whether the prevalence of homosexuality has fluctuated over time? OP, did you not consider the pointlessness of your question before you posted it?

by Anonymousreply 22March 23, 2023 12:26 PM

I think that the ratio of homosexual to heterosexual orientation remains fairly constant, but that the level of acceptance of homosexuality leads to greater experimentation and more people identifying openly as gay or bi who would otherwise be counted as straight. I think this also correlates to how traditional a society is with regards to marriage and child-rearing, so if you have a culture where marriage and having children is almost mandatory, you're going to have a lot less visible gay people, and less gay sex and no gay culture, but there will still be the same number of gay people born gay, they're just forced to stay in the closet.

by Anonymousreply 23March 23, 2023 12:26 PM

What’s the difference between the second and third answers?

by Anonymousreply 24March 23, 2023 12:39 PM

Weird poll. What's the difference between answering "no" and "it has stayed more or less the same?" Aren't they saying the same thing?

by Anonymousreply 25March 23, 2023 12:40 PM

No difference, R25. The question of this poll as phrased by the OP is stupid and pointless, even if some of the responses are interesting.

by Anonymousreply 26March 23, 2023 12:43 PM

I like the emergence of the “mostly straight” identity. It allows straight dudes to acknowledge incidental or situational samesex attraction or activity without relinquishing their main identity as straight dudes.

by Anonymousreply 27March 23, 2023 12:43 PM

Nah, it is just fashionable in certain urban western environments to say that you are queer, just as kids were punkers in 70s.

As for claim that most people are bisexual, this is completely wrong. Maybe some kids are experimenting or are sexually confused, but the majority of adults are heterosexual.

by Anonymousreply 28March 23, 2023 1:05 PM

Yes, by 2040–the levels of “bisexual” we see today will shrink considerably. The polls we see today are BS. The polls we saw in the 80s and 90s are more accurate of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals.

by Anonymousreply 29March 23, 2023 1:08 PM

I don't know if the rates of homosexuality have necessarily changed over time, but I'm sure ANAL HYGIENE has at least improved somewhat!

by Anonymousreply 31March 23, 2023 1:18 PM

Anyone know if Middle Eastern men remove their ass hair or just the hair on their cock and balls. They love to wash each other in the hammam. Scrub my hole, Amir!

by Anonymousreply 34March 23, 2023 2:11 PM

R15 penetrator in the streets, penetratee in the sheets.

by Anonymousreply 35March 23, 2023 2:15 PM

The percentage of men who identify as gay -- like me -- has risen as society has become more accepting of us. Has the percentage of gay men in the total population risen over time? I don't know, but I would say not.

by Anonymousreply 36March 23, 2023 2:24 PM

I really don't know if the Middle eastern tradition of pedophilia and pederasty has homosexual roots or is it just an easy way to get off, just as some do with sheep or goats (some not so politically correct people used to call these men goat fuckers).

I wonder if these pedos have any sexual orientation.

This article about Afghanistan is really disturbing and the role of US army is horrible.

r31 Why? Fools didn't wipe their ass back in the day?

Were douchebags invented in the 21st Century?

What a stupid comment.

[quote] Bottoms didn't douche as much in the 1980s.

Based on what? I have no reason to believe that. Did you do a poll?

I remember seeing graffiti on a tearoom wall in the 80's some guy boasting about his douched asshole.

You guys didn't invent douches. Hahaha.

by Anonymousreply 44April 4, 2023 7:09 AM

It would depend on whether homosexuality is a genetically inherited characteristic passed on from a gay father or mother.

If it is, then closeted societies would likely breed more gay men, as gays and lesbians would feel the need to marry and propagate.

If not, then probably less because gays would not reproduce.

Add in that homosexual sex was common enough in many societies and there was no concept of homosexuality as an identity.

by Anonymousreply 45April 4, 2023 7:17 AM

The guy on the right in the OP reminds me of Matthew Rhys.

by Anonymousreply 46April 4, 2023 7:23 AM

These cunts will NEVER stop shilling this book. EVER.

Gawd, it's so annoying.

by Anonymousreply 47April 4, 2023 7:31 AM

Those two guys are hot!

On another note,

[Quote] Anyone know if Middle Eastern men remove their ass hair or just the hair on their cock and balls.

Asshair, balls, pits, pubes... The whole lot according to the Green Book. Wash after cumming too.
