Good old standard NYC "subway tile" in bathroom.

by Anonymousreply 4March 23, 2023 2:17 AM

The only bathroom is inside the bedroom...pass!

Looking at another apartment in same line (6D) it does seem for these "one bedroom" apartments only bathroom is off bedroom.

Look again. Only Langella’s unit is that way, the other two have bathroom entrances off the living room.

From my other great resource, Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library, Columbia University; we can see original floor plan for a much larger apartment.

As with so many other prewar buildings at some point those grand apartments at 335 CPW were chopped up into smaller units.

No one obviously gave thoughts to those living in one bedroom apartments entertaining or having guests. Having people traipse through your bedroom to use the loo even to just wash hands or fix their face is rather feeble IMHO. Then again lots of efficiency apartments all over Manhattan have similar arrangement. Tudor City rentals and co-op apartments are instance in point.

For those not from NYC and or otherwise wondering Frank Langella's apartment is way up on West 94th and CPW. Still across from Central Park which is a plus and not quite nosebleed section of UWS. Subway stops right there (96th street) so that's something anyway.

You're correct. Sorry about that....

Tiny!

Actually as one bedrooms go for Manhattan, NYC it's pretty spacious.

Building allows generous financing and maintenance is super low. Special assessment drops off in 2025 which adds to the fun.

Building is prewar which always gets my vote. Entrance gallery, casement windows, and more are all things hard to find in new construction nowadays.

Why is he living in crap bottom floor 1bd apartment like that? Is he poor?

R14

FA bought that apartment twenty years ago.

While he had been working in decades prior to 2000's FA did huge amount of work from late 1990's through 2000's into 2010's. Don't know where he lived previously but perhaps like many actors Mr. Langella felt it was time to buy something, and that apartment was one he liked and could afford.

Mr. Langella went through a very rough patch in 1980's which took a bit of time to climb out of. By time he did the gorgeous hunk of Dracula and "Diary of a Mad Housewife" had pretty much vanished.

For what it's worth Central Park West from roughly starting in 60's up to 96th then and now is full of actors, dancers and other performing artists. Indeed UWS as a whole between CPW and Broadway is full of showbiz folk.

Two subway lines provide fast and easy access to Lincoln Center and theater district and or they are short taxi ride away.
