Russia and China join forces against ‘Evil’ US
Mr. Xi and Mr. Putin used the pomp of the three-day state visit that ended on Wednesday to signal to their publics and to Western capitals that the bond between their two countries remained robust and, in their eyes, indispensable, 13 months after Mr. Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine. They laid out their vision for the world in a nine-point joint statement that covered everything from Taiwan to climate change and relations with Mongolia, often depicting the United States as the obstacle to a better, fairer world.
“It looks like a strategic plan for a decade or even more. It’s not a knee-jerk reaction to the war in Ukraine,” said Alexander Korolev, a senior lecturer at the University of New South Wales in Australia, who studies Chinese-Russian relations. Noting the statement’s repeated criticisms of the United States, he said: “The threat is no longer implicit and hypothetical; it’s very explicit.”
In Mr. Xi’s view, recently stated in unusually blunt terms, the United States is engaged in “all-around containment, encirclement and suppression of China” — a campaign of sanctions and diplomatic pressure that he says has brought “unprecedented severe challenges” to the country. To counter Western pressure, Mr. Xi wants to give Mr. Putin the political and economic support to secure their partnership, even if China may not want to wade into Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“Xi is making a significant gesture of political support to Putin with this trip, basically demonstrating that the relationship will be resilient even in these straitened circumstances and that he is willing to live with the opprobrium of the West,” said Andrew Small, the author of “No Limits: The Inside Story of China’s War With the West.”

Gawd the foreign policy writers of the NYT can be such idiots some times.
Did Xi offer any military help? No.
Economic aid? No.
Diplomatic support? No.
What did he offer? The chance to become another one of China's clients.

I predict if it gets really bad, the US seizes all Chinese owned properties located in the US just like Cuba did in the 50’s, and zero out our debt to them.
Conflict ended!.

This deal is actually historic. China will get access to all of Russia's natural resources -- and I mean ALL of them -- in exchange for propping up the Putin regime economically in the short term. Russia pretty much got swallowed by the Chinese octopus with this, they just don't know it yet. Or rather, they pretend it's not happening and are convinced they'll be able to deal with this new reality at a later date. But boy oh boy are they going to regret it a decade or two from now when the Chinese start slowly but surely informing them who actually controls the strings. It's going to be such a rude awakening and it couldn't have happened to a better shithole.

I just read yesterday that China is a bit miffed about the Russian sponsored Wagner group going into some gold mines in Africa and shooting Chinese workers.

we knew years ago the axis would be Russia, China, Iran... and all three largely being financed by Qatar, home of FIFA World Cup 2022.
r6 that news keeps getting recycled... it might happen repeatedly, but it's just business as usual. They'll resolve it because they're in it together... the biggest burden they have is the investments they sunk in the arctic silk road. It's a financial money pit the longer the conflict goes on... of course, it's also a drain on the west as well that sunk money into the projects that were never fully reclaimed. . .
and if people think costs are high now... consider how much U.S. consumers are reliant upon China.
Everyone will be hurting by the end of it and never fully recover.... really, the only viable options are to break up Russia/China and that's far easier said than done.
Also, the U.N. as symbolic as it might be is a hindrance as it's largely been taken over by the bad faith actors.
Australia predicts a full scale war with China by 2025. Are you familiar of the conflicts of the last few years between the two?
And if not Australia, consider our other allies both surrounding Australia and those closer to China.
Much of the rest of the world is fucked... South America is in turmoil, too, with despots that would ready ally, too.
I'd like to believe it would be a couple decades yet but the U.S. itself is heading towards a potential civil war. The timeline is difficult to gauge of when or how that might get started. One more year before the craziness starts. . .

R3 Those who are ignorant of history are bound to repeat it.
Hitler did the same thing to Mussolini that Xi is doing to Russia: promised the world but when the time came to put words into deeds, they left him high and dry, sidelining him until he was powerless.
Hopefully Putin and Xi will come to the same end.

Xi just called for a summit with Central Asian nations in May, right after meeting with Putin. Clear power move to show him who's top bitch going forward. What had previously been Russia's little playground now belongs to China.

r15 Sweden was the only country in that group that remained neutral during both World Wars. And I wouldn't run my mouth too much on that topic, seeing how the US had to be dragged kicking and screaming into both. Sweden also has a powerful defence industry. All of them individually, with the possible exception of Denmark, would handily defeat Russia in a conventional war without external assistance.
So yes, they are in fact going to protect us all from Russia up in the north. To the south, Poland just went on a shopping spree and will soon have the largest land army on the continent after France, so they will protect us on that front. The Baltics would hold out until the rest of NATO arrived, they're too small to have huge armies.

The good news is that no matter what these dictators do, billionaires and their financial advisors will still continue to destroy the West from the inside.

This isn't true at all. There are no powers in Europe who could take on Russia alone. The only countries who stand a chance are the UK and France, but they'd still need to do it as a coalition.

R19 Granted with some help, but it's Ukrainians who're dying and they seem to be doing a good job of taking on the Russians these days... Putin has done more with this war to inadvertently expose Russia's military weakness and declining importance than anything the West could do or say. Their weapons suck and the morale of their troops is in the cellar. If we can see this, so can Xi. Weapons are one thing; determination (as we're seeing) quite another.

The failure of the Russian invasion and annexation of parts of Ukraine points not only to their military failures (crap equipment, no uniforms, no secure communications, no training, troops that would rather surrender than fight) but to a massive intelligence failure as well.
Putin was the head of the KGB/FSU before he was PM and President. He believed their assessment when they said the Ukrainians wouldn’t fight and that the West wouldn’t support them. The only reason he’s still in power is that his supporters know that if he does, they’ll go down with him. Explaining away 200,000 Russian casualties isn’t going to be easy.
