I want to be underwhelmed Spring 2023 edition 🌷

It’s raining. I’m enjoying an iced coffee with butter rum syrup in it.

by Anonymousreply 600May 29, 2023 11:07 PM

There's a retired guy in my neighborhood who rides around every day on his adult tricycle. It's a spiffy looking trike. Kudos to him. I don't know that I would have the aplomb to pull it off at any age. Most people around here zip around in golf carts. He marches to the beat of his own drummer, good for him.

by Anonymousreply 1March 22, 2023 4:50 PM

Well there is Sebastian, He goes to an adult daycare program for 6 hrs everyday. When he gets home he rides a tricycle around the neighborhood taking orders for candy and snacks. If he approaches you and you do not order from him he gets very hateful and throws a fit. Creeps me out.

by Anonymousreply 2March 22, 2023 10:13 PM

A whispery woman on YT just cleansed my chakras. I don't feel any different.

by Anonymousreply 3March 23, 2023 1:43 PM

She must have done it wrong.

by Anonymousreply 4March 23, 2023 1:51 PM

Your chakras may be blocked - you know, chakra-stapation.

by Anonymousreply 6March 23, 2023 5:18 PM

The daffodils and tulips are starting to poke through the mud. And the robins are invading.

by Anonymousreply 7March 23, 2023 6:10 PM

Winter is ovah...Fuck you, Putin!

by Anonymousreply 8March 23, 2023 6:41 PM

I'm watching the PBS series "Jazz" by Ken Burns on Hoopla. I'm wondering when Hoopla decreased its monthly plays from 10 to five. This does not sit well with me. In other news, I've noticed that the left side of my right big toe is rather brown and crusty. I'll squirt it with Windex and hope for the best.

I hope that I've sufficiently underwhelmed you, OP. Or would " insufficiiently underwhelmed" be more applicable in this case?

by Anonymousreply 9March 23, 2023 6:50 PM

A YouTube video I made in January is about to hit 100 views!!

by Anonymousreply 10March 23, 2023 7:00 PM

The package dropped on front porch in the rain as the southwest wind blows. Wet cardboard smells like neglect…

by Anonymousreply 11March 23, 2023 7:16 PM

An innocuous thread I started was deleted. This has never happened to me before. Not that I start many threads. No one posted anything controversial. I'm lost and confused and a little bit embarrassed. But I don't know why I'm embarrassed as I didn't do anything wrong. I don't recognize my life right now. I thought I was an esteemed member here.

by Anonymousreply 12March 23, 2023 7:23 PM

by Anonymousreply 15March 23, 2023 10:21 PM

I'm not so sure I am ready for Spring yet.

by Anonymousreply 16March 23, 2023 10:22 PM

I asked folks to list their DL stats: WWs, threads started, replies received etc. It's been done many times in the past... I don't know what my offense was.

by Anonymousreply 18March 23, 2023 10:29 PM

Oh. You broke the "no threads about threads" rule, r18. That's a big deal to Muriel for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 19March 23, 2023 10:31 PM

False Spring and then a subsequent rare, late winter freeze has done a number on a lot of my shrubbery.

A lot of frost damage, dammit!

by Anonymousreply 20March 23, 2023 11:23 PM

I’m busy testing batteries.

by Anonymousreply 21March 24, 2023 12:09 AM

R21 For your dildo? I hate it when the battery dies.

by Anonymousreply 22March 24, 2023 12:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 24March 24, 2023 3:53 AM

I'm hungry but can't take my aligners out until at least 8:30 am. I have to wear them at least 10 hours and have the overnight wear ones. I didn't put them in until after Top Chef went off. It's currently 7:53 am on the East Coast.

by Anonymousreply 25March 24, 2023 11:54 AM

How do you handle early morning blow jobs Cosmo?

by Anonymousreply 26March 24, 2023 12:10 PM

Funny answer: It doesn't come up.

Serious answer: No longer a problem, R26. I'm 60 and have been single for more than 18 years.

by Anonymousreply 27March 24, 2023 1:04 PM

I had shit for lunch

by Anonymousreply 28March 24, 2023 7:24 PM

Erna? Erna, is that you?

by Anonymousreply 29March 24, 2023 8:32 PM

Talenti Gelato was BOGO. I got Raspberry Sorbetto and Cold Brew Sorbetto.

by Anonymousreply 30March 24, 2023 9:44 PM

A lot of people can’t wait to get home from work on Fridays so they can start sucking cocks.

by Anonymousreply 31March 24, 2023 10:19 PM

I bought a large pack of strawberries yesterday for $1.99. For that price I had to wonder if there was something wrong with them, but each one’s perfectly ripe, which is rare even when they’re local and in season. Thank you to whomever picked and packed them.

by Anonymousreply 32March 24, 2023 10:35 PM

[quote]Thank you to whomever picked and packed them.

by Anonymousreply 33March 24, 2023 10:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 34March 24, 2023 10:50 PM

Is everyone into BDSM?

by Anonymousreply 35March 24, 2023 11:57 PM

Be careful with strawberries. They are loaded with pesticides and need to be cleaned scrupulously.

by Anonymousreply 36March 25, 2023 12:38 AM

I took a spring shit today

by Anonymousreply 37March 26, 2023 7:17 PM

No more until June then?

by Anonymousreply 38March 26, 2023 7:37 PM

I'm still busy being underwhelmed by Mid-Winter.

I'll join you all later maybe.

by Anonymousreply 39March 26, 2023 7:40 PM

I'm craving grapes. I've craved other fruits before but never grapes. This is a new sensation for me.

by Anonymousreply 40March 26, 2023 7:45 PM

I'm looking forward to it being warm enough to open my windows.

by Anonymousreply 41March 26, 2023 7:51 PM

It's that weird period, where I'm having to keep both the heat and the A/C on - and keep checking that they're not competeing with each other.

My apartment's maintenance crew will be doing unit inspections next week in preparation for upcoming city inspections. I've spent most of the weekend cleaning and decluttering so that I don't seem too much like a slob.

by Anonymousreply 46March 26, 2023 10:34 PM

I have to take stool samples two days in a row or something and bring them to a medical facility- yikes 😬

I’m not looking forward to it.

by Anonymousreply 47March 26, 2023 10:50 PM

I just vacuumed my bedroom floor at 6 PM. My mother was not impressed. In all actuality, she's been a seething cunt all day. I need a vacation.

by Anonymousreply 48March 26, 2023 11:51 PM

Or you could move out.

by Anonymousreply 49March 27, 2023 7:33 AM

I fee for you, R47. While not the same thing, it skeeves me out to take a baggy of my cat's poop to the vet with me for his annual physical. I went last year and a woman pulled the poop bag out of her pocketbook! I carry it in a separate bag.

by Anonymousreply 50March 27, 2023 1:56 PM

It's been hard, but I've decided to leave the "I want to be underwhelmed Mid-Winter 2023" thread unfinished.

[quote]I went last year and a woman pulled the poop bag out of her pocketbook!

Where she was also carrying her Rice Krispy Treats for the Cas Rescue Bake Sale Fundraiser...

by Anonymousreply 52March 27, 2023 2:03 PM

R50- I like that you still use the word Pocketbook. In my mother's day the purse was a small pouch that held the bills and the coins and went inside the much larger pocketbook.

by Anonymousreply 53March 27, 2023 3:46 PM

agree, r51. Whoever starts the new thread -- WHEN THIS ONE APPROACHES 600 -- please don't use a title that will date it or create forced obscolescence. And knock it off with the emojis.

Please and thank you.

R54 I’ll let you create them from now on, bitch.

Please r55. Do not despair.

We would all prefer r54 to be done.

I had a hospital appointment today and was told that my blood pressure was high. That is whelming, but now I am wondering whether it is just because I slept badly last night. I’m expecting to be summoned to see my GP tomorrow or Thursday to discuss it though.

by Anonymousreply 57March 28, 2023 8:27 PM

My dog keeps going to the door, because he wants to go out and lie in the sun.

by Anonymousreply 58March 28, 2023 8:36 PM

I’m listening to Crystal Waters drinking Crystal Light grape.

by Anonymousreply 59March 28, 2023 8:59 PM

I’m in bed and my stupid and evil neighbours are shrieking at each other and cackling. I’m going to select an audio book to drown out the caterwauling and allow me to fall asleep.

by Anonymousreply 60March 28, 2023 9:11 PM

That would be overwhelming for me. My sympathies, r60.

by Anonymousreply 61March 28, 2023 9:15 PM

It rained all day, so I had to take my “morning” walk in late afternoon. I saw a pretty blue bird and got its picture. The latest Apple update provides an “info” button below some photos, which you can touch to find out more about what you’ve photographed (plants and now, apparently, birds). It was a California scrub jay. Isn’t technology wonderful?

by Anonymousreply 62March 29, 2023 1:27 AM

Ahh, the legendary California scrub jay of happiness...

by Anonymousreply 63March 29, 2023 2:07 AM

R57, I hope everything is OK.

There's a phenomenon called "White Coat Anxiety" or something like that. If you get a little nervous at the doctor's office, you may experience an elevated BP. I think that's why doctors have you go into the room with a tech who takes your pressure and then they take it. I listen to a calming meditation on my FitBit app or just breath calmly with my eyes closed before entering the office.

Sorry if this is whelming to some.

by Anonymousreply 64March 29, 2023 11:57 AM

For lunch I had a Steakhouse Garlic Ribeye Sandwich from Arby's. It was pretty good. Prior to today's impromptu visit, I hadn't been to an Arby's since probably the Clinton administration.

by Anonymousreply 65March 29, 2023 6:34 PM

I made a big bowl of popcorn for dinner. Sprinkled on some Parmesan cheese and garlic powder. Popped in veggie "butter" (Benecol)

Fiber, plant sterols, and the garlic is healthy.

I went to Panda Express this evening. I always order the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 76March 31, 2023 3:15 AM

Orange chicken?

Panda fried rice is bland, IMHO.

by Anonymousreply 77March 31, 2023 4:01 AM

No. I hate orange chicken. I get chow mein, double broccoli beef and teriyaki chicken.

I'm enjoying an entire barrel of butter rum syrup!

by Anonymousreply 79March 31, 2023 4:41 AM

R78, Panda Express recently opened near me. I don't care for their food. It's never warm and the rice and noodles are dry from not being in a sauce. Maybe yours is busier than mine. I prefer my local Chinese restaurants.

by Anonymousreply 80March 31, 2023 12:16 PM

I don't like Panda Express, either. I have to admit that the orange chicken that I had several years ago was decent. It had a nice crunch and the sauce wasn't over-the-top sweet. Like I said earlier, though, the fried rice is super-bland and boring. How do you fuck up fried rice.

by Anonymousreply 81March 31, 2023 10:26 PM

I didn’t feel like dinner tonight, and not it’s past midnight and I’m hungry. I think I’ll make toast, but it seems like such a fuss.

by Anonymousreply 82March 31, 2023 11:25 PM

Cosmo @ r80, my local Panda Express is very busy, especially for Grubhub and Doordash customers. They are constantly cooking, so nothing gets cold or dried out even as late as 8 pm.

by Anonymousreply 83April 1, 2023 3:59 AM

it's windy as hell here in st. louis, mo. windy!!

by Anonymousreply 84April 1, 2023 10:23 AM

For lunch I threw a few Mrs. T.'s pierogies in the air fryer, spritzed them with a little avocado oil and air fried for the recommended time on the package.

I should have invested the extra time and just done my usual parboil and then fry. The exterior was cardboard-y. I've yet to be wow'd by anything out of the air fryer. I find the air fryer best for reheating things. Pizza, pasta, meatloaf, anything I've frozen such as casseroles and homemade or bakery cookies.

by Anonymousreply 85April 1, 2023 4:23 PM

Pssst—it’s a convection oven.

by Anonymousreply 86April 1, 2023 4:37 PM

I finally bought some stainless-steel straws. There's four in the package. Two straight, two curved. They came with a cleaning brush and four removable, BPA free color-coded silicone tips for my sipping comfort.

by Anonymousreply 87April 2, 2023 9:05 PM

I don't care what snooty bitches think, Lifetime Movie Channel Movies are very entertaining.

This "Her Affair to Die For" movie is schlocktastic, so bad it's good.

[quote]They came with a cleaning brush and four removable, BPA free color-coded silicone tips for my sipping comfort.

Eating my first ice cream in ages, a near-pint of Haagen-Dazs Coffee. With some raspberries.

by Anonymousreply 93April 3, 2023 7:56 PM

R91, I’m sleepy too. I wanted to do some small chores this evening, but I’m going to leave them u til the morning.

by Anonymousreply 94April 3, 2023 8:09 PM

I'm jealous, R93. I love HD Coffee ice cream!! I have to buy the little cups; I think they're 4 ounces. Otherwise, I eat the whole pint.

I have my first dental cleaning of the year today at 10:15 am. I think it's time for x-rays. Ugh, I hate them! Those things they put in your mouth for contrast always scrape the roof of my mouth and make my eyes water.

by Anonymousreply 95April 4, 2023 12:00 PM

I like the Haagen Dazs vanilla Swiss almond. That's probably my favorite HD flavor. I also like dulce de leche, cherry vanilla, and coffee.

by Anonymousreply 96April 4, 2023 6:30 PM

R95 here. My dental appointment went great. Very little tartar or plaque. As usual, I have a small section of gums that requires extra attention. That's great considering I'm 61 and bad teeth run in my family. Five years ago, my I didn't just have 'pink in the sink"; it practically ran red. It's never too late to take care of your teeth, DL.

by Anonymousreply 97April 4, 2023 6:51 PM

R97, I have 4 dental appointments per year (2 w/dentist, 2 w/periodontist). For some reason, the X-rays (with those bitewings) don't seem to bother me anymore. I've had gums issues since my 20s and had surgery in my 20s.

Anyway, I really want to avoid false teeth & caps and all that.

by Anonymousreply 98April 4, 2023 7:02 PM

Two street walkers were going by on the sidewalk a few minutes ago. A guy in a car pulled over and the two whores got in the car and they drove off. Those girls are really going places.

by Anonymousreply 106April 5, 2023 7:15 AM

R98, that used to be me. I'm not sure my periodontist wasn't making things worse with the scaling. That practice was out of network for me so I found a dental practice that is in network. I've no issues with my gums and my dentist hasn't mentioned needing a periodontist. Are you sure you don't want to go somewhere else for a second opinion?

by Anonymousreply 107April 5, 2023 11:55 AM

Lunch was a pot roast sandwich on butter bun and cheese curds from Culver's.

Dee-licious.

by Anonymousreply 108April 5, 2023 5:22 PM

Sounds good r108.

by Anonymousreply 109April 5, 2023 5:24 PM

Culver's is a Wisconsin based burger joint known for their ButterBurgers (butter on the buns), frozen custard and cheesy stuff. They've expanded quite a bit and are in many states now.

I forgot to mention I also got their mint oreo custard.

Cosmo / R107, I've had periodontal issues since I was in my early 20s. I had surgery, at some point. But you're right, maybe I can reevaluate this 4X / year situation. Frankly, I prefer my periodontist to my regular dentist. My regular dentist acts like a used car salesman.

It's Easter and Maundy Thursday (which is a public holiday here), which means everyone is going to their cabins in the mountains, as is a Norwegian tradition. Me? Don't have a mountain cabin. I'm doing "city Easter" instead. I am working and doing shit at home, vacuuming, cleaning etc.

by Anonymousreply 118April 6, 2023 11:34 AM

R111, I totally understand. Before the age of 13, I had something like 12 cavities. Once I turned 18, I didn't visit a dentist until my 30s when I had dental coverage through an employer. I've had gum surgery at least 2x, 4 root canals, and wisdom teeth removal.

My grandparents had dentures as does my Dad and my Mom had 2 o 3 teeth pulled so I know i don't come from a family with great teeth. I'm doing everything I can now to avoid dentures. Good luck to you.

Went out early this morning to run a few quick errands.

On the way home I was stopped at a redlight and noticed a business on the corner had their flag at half-mast and I thought "who died?"

As I pulled into my driveway ten minutes later it finally dawned on me who died.

by Anonymousreply 129April 7, 2023 5:09 PM

Get ready, R129. Flags may be at half-mast tomorrow because somebody arose from the dead.

by Anonymousreply 130April 9, 2023 1:23 AM

My cousin the lawyer came by today. She said I should replace my Fiesta Ware as it is too "heavy" and as I get "older" I might injure myself. She's concerned there would be no one to help me should I injure myself what with me being an only child and partnerless and childless.

I informed my cousin the lawyer that foot loose, fancy free and childFREE me was thinking of making some changes to my Will. I'm concerned I'm leaving too much to impertinent cousins and too little to the dachshund rescue and other animal charities I support. Could she please draw up the paperwork so I can make those changes??

She wasn't so glib after that.

Fiesta Ware can kill!

by Anonymousreply 134April 9, 2023 7:38 PM

r133, I"m the one with all the Fiestaware, not my cousin. She wants me to get rid of my Fiestaware as I approach my dotage for safety reasons apparently.

No, r132, you can't have my stuff unless you come and take care of me when I'm old and possibly disabled by a Fiestaware accident.

by Anonymousreply 135April 9, 2023 7:41 PM

Oh, I misunderstood, r135. I thought you meant your cousin was looking to relieve you of all those heavy, dangerous dishes.

Oh no she doesn't like or want it. Told me to "donate" it and get lightweight Corelle or some such. Didn't even cross her mind it might sell for a nice sum.

by Anonymousreply 137April 9, 2023 7:51 PM

Oh, God, r137. Your tasteless cousin the lawyer.

by Anonymousreply 138April 9, 2023 7:52 PM

I’m about to clean out my sock drawer. I think there are more than 150 pairs there. Far too many. I want to reduce it to under 100.

I will keep you updated on my progress.

Why do people like Fiestaware so much?

by Anonymousreply 140April 9, 2023 8:57 PM

[quote]Why do people like Fiestaware so much?

I can't answer for anyone else, but I like it because it comes in Turquoise, for which Chartreuse and Navy (Cobalt, Twilight) are nice contrasting colors. Lots of foods go with those colors. I know, I know, everything goes with white, but I came to realize over time that I hate white dishes. I gave away a set of Apilco dishes to someone who was struck poor and setting up a new household. She had always liked my "Williams-Sonoma dishes."

by Anonymousreply 141April 9, 2023 9:04 PM

I'm passing a lot of wind today but I suppose it's not surprising considering I had Whole Foods Lemon and Pepper tofu for lunch today.

by Anonymousreply 142April 9, 2023 9:33 PM

Ugh. I hate colorful dinnerware. It takes away from the color scheme of the food.

Verizon was charging me so much for limited 4G service for my iPhone X that I was able to switch to T-Mobile, and get an iPhone 14 Pro Max with their best 5G plan for only $20 more a month, including the phone.

by Anonymousreply 144April 10, 2023 11:31 PM

I ordered a beef chimichanga in the drive-through and when I got home I discovered they had given me french fries covered in meat and cheese. It was actually pretty good, but I was worried that the meat might actually be menudo, which is pretty gross.

by Anonymousreply 145April 11, 2023 1:39 AM

I love you, Cosmo, but I am also sad for you. I wish we lived closer.

by Anonymousreply 146April 11, 2023 3:08 AM

My lunch for tomorrow ( I'm not mentioning breakfast because I don't eat breakfast on Tuesday) is a very large salad which I made with my own pretty little fingers and a vegetable empanada that I bought at a health food store a month ago ( I've had it in the freezer) I will pour a generous amount of marinara sauce on it and that powdered parmesan cheese.

by Anonymousreply 147April 11, 2023 3:18 AM

Fingers in a salad sound chewy and unappetizing.

by Anonymousreply 148April 11, 2023 7:53 AM

R146, why are you sad for me? I'm doing great!

R147, an empanada with marinara sauce and cheese? Why not salsa or guacamole? Just curious.

by Anonymousreply 149April 11, 2023 11:58 AM

Heinz yellow mustard is superior to French's yellow mustard. In the budget category that is. I don't know about the fancy schmancy mustards.

by Anonymousreply 150April 11, 2023 1:17 PM

R149- I love tomato sauce on that type of thing even if it seems incongruous.

by Anonymousreply 151April 11, 2023 1:54 PM

Thanks, R151/R147. I really was just curious about the combination. I've never had a vegetable empanada but it does sound good. I hope you enjoy your lunch!

by Anonymousreply 152April 11, 2023 2:04 PM

R152- Thank you.

I’m trapped waiting for a “signature required” UPS delivery. It’s my new phone. There’s a map on their website showing the truck’s location, which is not far, but I have no idea how long it will take.

by Anonymousreply 155April 12, 2023 2:32 PM

It arrived. I don’t know why they can’t give you a better time frame than 9AM to 7PM when you have to sign for a delivery.

by Anonymousreply 156April 12, 2023 4:00 PM

Just noticed that at 11:27 they sent an email saying the phone would arrive 11:45 - 3:45. It arrived at 12:00. Surely they could be more precise a half hour before.

Today, I saw a man eating a burrito shaped object while vaping.

I think i may have eaten too many tortilla chips. My stomach feels funny and I feel a bit pukey

by Anonymousreply 160April 12, 2023 8:07 PM

r160, the only sure sign you have eaten too many is if the roof of your mouth is cut to ribbons.

I bought some biodegradable paper, fillable teabags. They work well for making one cup at a time in the microwave. Now, I can buy loose tea in bulk from my local health food store.

by Anonymousreply 167April 13, 2023 6:47 PM

You could also do that with a tea ball infuser r167, for probably less money than you spend on the single use tea bags.

by Anonymousreply 168April 13, 2023 7:20 PM

R168, I tried the tea ball and didn't like cleaning it. Thanks, though!

by Anonymousreply 169April 13, 2023 7:23 PM

It's been raining non-stop today but next week should be better, they're reporting sun and almost 20 degrees! Finally some warm weather!

R173 get a grip

by Anonymousreply 174April 13, 2023 9:26 PM

I'm craving ice cream since it's so warm here in northern NJ. A soft serve twist with wet walnuts and chocolate sprinkles from DQ or really good hard ice cream in a cup? Perhaps mint chocolate chip? What say you, DL?

by Anonymousreply 175April 14, 2023 6:34 PM

It’s so nice outside! The people are so interesting!

by Anonymousreply 176April 14, 2023 6:55 PM

Cosmo / R175, what do you mean by a "really good hard ice cream in a cup"? Haagen Dazs? I think I'd prefer Haagen Dazs. I like soft-serve (McDonalds, we have no DQ in my area), but I feel more satisfied eating a "hard" ice cream.

by Anonymousreply 177April 14, 2023 7:02 PM

I love hard

by Anonymousreply 178April 14, 2023 7:14 PM

Finally broke down and turned on the a/c today. Northern NJ and 90F!!

Tomorrow, rain and then cooling off again for the rest of the week (mid-50s-low 60s). I detest summer!

by Anonymousreply 179April 14, 2023 8:21 PM

R179, I condole you. Yeah, not looking forward to summer.

I gave my cat’s litter box a thorough spring cleaning and after she used it she came to sit next to me an purr.

You’re welcome, dollface.

by Anonymousreply 182April 14, 2023 9:16 PM

Samba, the demon cat of Biscayne Boulevard, refuses to use her litterbox after it has been given a thorough cleaning. It takes her a few days.

She is, however, a dollface.

by Anonymousreply 186April 14, 2023 9:37 PM

I waited all last week for the warm weather. It’s been 70s and 80s and of course I got sick. Part if it was wegovy making me nauseous, dizzy, gassy, refluxed. But I also was very tired, my muscles felt weak and when I was finally able to leave my bed today I went outside and was extremely short of breath and having terrible sweats. No temp (I haven’t had a fever since 1980sj, no coughing. But just trying to sweep my front patio made me dizzy and had me gasping for air. I think I might have aspiration pneumonia.

R146 I think there are a couple of Cosmo(s) on DL. I asked one a question and got a long answer that wasn't related to any of the mountains of information that Cosmo (the first) has shared. A few posts later, someone wrote that the person who responded to me wasn't the Cosmo I was looking for.

Why don't professors want you to call them "Miss/Ms/Mrs" I addressed my PoliSci professor as Miss and the look she shot , if looks could kill... to make matters worse I said " sorry " ma' am" and her face turned bright red with rage.

I'm heading to her exam class now, she's gonna fail me right?

by Anonymousreply 212April 17, 2023 9:13 PM

Just call her "professor." What's so hard about that.

by Anonymousreply 213April 17, 2023 9:15 PM

She wants to be addressed as " dr+ last name" or "Professor+ last name". Problem is I have a hard time remembering her last name . Hence, calling her miss is easier ..

by Anonymousreply 220April 18, 2023 12:23 AM

You’ll get a 3.0, R220. Cs or lower go back to plead/argue and she probably wants to be done with your class.

by Anonymousreply 221April 18, 2023 12:56 AM

You should have pretended you were German, which would allow you to call her Frau Professor.

by Anonymousreply 222April 18, 2023 1:49 AM

Had an absolutely whelming day at work. Really, really bad. My dog was happy to see me when I got home, and my cat is being a total snuggle buddy, like she knows.

by Anonymousreply 223April 18, 2023 2:46 AM

R233 Happy ending, yes? Good for you.

by Anonymousreply 224April 18, 2023 2:53 AM

Happy ending yes, r224. But possibly career ending. I won’t go into not detail in the underwhelming thread. But loving the kitty snuggles and the black and pink pattern of her paws. She is a tiny little Tuxedo cat with a huge personality

by Anonymousreply 225April 18, 2023 3:02 AM

Sorry that was me, r223 at r225

by Anonymousreply 226April 18, 2023 3:03 AM

Oh, no, R226. I hope things aren't as bad as you think, right now.

by Anonymousreply 227April 18, 2023 3:06 AM

R225 A tuxedo cat? I always wanted one and - because I have no imagination - he'd be named Sylvester.

I agree with R227. Hopefully, your situation isn't was bad as you think.

by Anonymousreply 228April 18, 2023 3:17 AM

Thanks r227 and r228. We shall see.

I think Sylvester is a great name for a tuxedo cat, Mine is a girl and named Katy Purry because she’s a purring machine. Goes by Katy and has the cutest mix of pink and black paw pads. My golden retriever Hudson (came with the name but Hud, Huddy and Huddy Buddy or Nutty Buddy) adores her. Katy is now bopping me on the head to go to bed.

by Anonymousreply 229April 18, 2023 4:05 AM

R229 I'm not underwhelmed; I'm jealous. Sorry for derailing the thread but head bumps to Ms Katy and belly rubs to Mr Hudson.

by Anonymousreply 230April 18, 2023 4:20 AM

Thank you r228 / r230. Lucky to have Katy and HUD.

The motion light in my driveway is out. When I took my dogs out late last night they refused to walk forward until a light came on. I turned on my phone flashlight and tried to coax them along but they were not having it and waiting for the big beaming light to come on. They're so smart my little doxies!

by Anonymousreply 236April 20, 2023 12:39 PM

My cat is getting rather too aggressive about getting me out of bed to feed her. Aggressive purrs, head butts, whisker tickles and the cold, wet nose. I miss the days when she would sit patiently by my head and wait for me to open my eyes.

by Anonymousreply 237April 22, 2023 5:38 PM

R237 get up! It’s past noon!

by Anonymousreply 238April 22, 2023 7:15 PM

That's the thing about cats that I wouldn't like. My friend has a cat who wakes him up at 4:00 a.m. because the cat wants to eat. Not sure how you would train your cat out of that. Even if you closed your bedroom door with the cat outside in the hall, they'd bother you, make noise, scratch the door.

by Anonymousreply 239April 22, 2023 7:19 PM

I have manage to outwit Samba, the Demon Cat of Biscayne Boulevard by getting up at 2:30 a.m.

by Anonymousreply 240April 22, 2023 7:45 PM

Dogs are just as demanding. I'm overwhelmed by all this cat-centric complaining.

by Anonymousreply 241April 22, 2023 8:15 PM

R239, what is worse is the cat is actually getting him up to interact with him - even if it’s a shitty interaction. The cat wants company at 4am.

by Anonymousreply 242April 22, 2023 8:22 PM

I have an automated feeder to take care of the 4:00AM feeding.

by Anonymousreply 243April 22, 2023 8:29 PM

Automatic feeder makes sense. Why can't all cat owners use automatic feeders.

by Anonymousreply 244April 22, 2023 8:31 PM

They only work with dry food.

by Anonymousreply 245April 22, 2023 8:34 PM

The package feels lighter and it has fewer calories than the Black, which is disappointing. I hope I like it. I wouldn't mind switching to vegan, if possible.

by Anonymousreply 265April 24, 2023 7:31 PM

I find nuts are only addictive when they are salty.

by Anonymousreply 266April 24, 2023 8:22 PM

Yeah, the Diamond Smokehouse almonds, for example, are addictive, but that's due to the saltiness & added flavor.

R301, how do you overcook lasagne?

by Anonymousreply 303April 29, 2023 2:53 AM

I bought this really nice cheddar cheese from Costco: it's organic and the brand is "Kingdom." It is crumbly and has a bit of the crystalization, like Parmesan. So, I put it on my Costco list to buy, again. Then, I checked the Costco Same-Day website and it looks like damn Costco struck again - stopped selling it, substituted it with Kirkland cheddar.

Costco is really not doing well with its cheese selection. They keep removing good cheeses and substituting their own products, which aren't great. I'm not saying all Kirkland products are not great, but they're failing with the cheeses.

by Anonymousreply 304April 29, 2023 4:06 AM

That cheese problem borders on whelming

by Anonymousreply 305April 29, 2023 3:14 PM

Kirkland products are made by major manufacturers of known brands. It’s not as if they’re making cheese in the parking lot of their distribution center.

by Anonymousreply 306April 29, 2023 4:14 PM

I’ve got to go out now, meet people and be social, whereas I want to stay in, watch TV and eat yogurt.

by Anonymousreply 311April 29, 2023 10:15 PM

I tried the Nongshim (Korean brand) "Soon" ramen because my local store was out of my usual "Black" ramen. The Soon ramen is pretty darn good. It's vegan; the Black has beef broth. I think I would still give the edge to the Black ramen, which has 3 different packets of flavorings. The Soon only has 2 packets.

by Anonymousreply 313May 1, 2023 5:52 PM

R313 I agree. I want to sleep in. The birds and the sun wake me way to early these days. I love winter when it's dark at 7am and 5pm.

by Anonymousreply 314May 2, 2023 12:26 AM

I've been selling a load of junk on eBay, and so far I've made £268. It's so satisfying when you get a sale, even if it's only a small amount. Normally I'm a bit of a hoarder, so I'm proud of myself.

by Anonymousreply 315May 2, 2023 1:37 PM

[quote] It's so satisfying when you get a sale, even if it's only a small amount.

Interesting, R315. I still buy a fair amount of things via eBay. I usually research the prices and email the seller, asking to negotiate a price. (Nothing crazy, I don't want to insult a seller.) Only one seller has said no (they won't negotiate). I always pay right away. Sounds like a no-brainer, but I think a lot of buyers commit to something and then either don't pay or take a while to pay.

I bought some plants for the garden and now I realize it is way too early to put them outside. I live in the Great Lakes region and our spring is at least another month away. I was seduced by the lovely begonias and coral bells.

by Anonymousreply 320May 3, 2023 3:37 AM

I don’t need a pizza or calzone; I have stew and bread.

I’m turning back into a Lutheran. A turtleneck can’t be far.

Charles' coronation has me thinking about the kings and queens of music.

Michael Jackson will always be the king of pop, Aretha Franklin will always be the queen of soul, Elvis is forever, the king of rock 'n' roll, and like it or not, Madonna will always be the queen of pop.

There is no ascendancy for people coming up behind them.

Even Britney Spears is and probably always will be a pop princess. Even if she were still making music and hadn't gone crazy, she was never going to inherit the queen of pop crown.

So where does that leave artists like Lady Gaga? She is clearly a better performer and actor than Madonna ever was. She's surpassed the title princess of pop. So what is she? Is there an honorific for artist like her, ones that are too big to be a pop princess but not in line to be the next queen?

I'm much more concerned about this than the British royal family.

by Anonymousreply 326May 6, 2023 4:52 AM

What a segue^!

by Anonymousreply 327May 6, 2023 5:05 AM

[quote] Elvis is forever, the king of rock 'n' roll

Elvis wasn't the "king of rock 'n' roll." He was, simply, "The King."

When Michael Jackson dubbed himself "The King of Pop," I actually felt bad for him because it sounded so stupid.

Anyway, why is this thread headed in this direction?

by Anonymousreply 328May 6, 2023 5:16 AM

This thread has gone astray!

I just ordered a new iMac (desktop computer). I didn't order enough adapters for the ports. All my peripherals are USB-A. The ports on the back of the iMac are all USB-C, but they call them "USB 3" and "Thunderbolt / USB 4." So confusing. The cheapest iMac has only 2 ports back there. Why is Apple so weird with the ports. Why can't they just put 6 ports on all the iMacs.

Can't decide whether to buy coffee to make at home. I lost my taste for it during covid this January and February (and maybe March), and now I find myself drinking it no more than every second or third day. I like it, but not as much as I used to, and I'm almost out. I've been drinking iced tea in the morning instead.

by Anonymousreply 345May 7, 2023 7:03 PM

[quote]The magic of Folger's Crystals, my friend.

At first, I dismissed this idea. But then I realized that now, in my dotage, it might be a reasonable solution. I'd probably choose a different brand, as I never cared for brewed Folger's, but the concept of instant coffee might be something to try.

I gave up on grinding beans five years ago—it gets all over the counter—and have even switched to not grinding my own pepper. Penzeys makes a perfectly tasty pre-ground black pepper called simply Penzeys Pepper.

by Anonymousreply 351May 7, 2023 7:33 PM

I don't think the brick of Cafe Bustelo is instant coffee. The brick is pre-ground coffee beans. The instant stuff comes in jars.

by Anonymousreply 375May 10, 2023 5:23 AM

For those asking, I had chicken enchiladas with refried beans and rice. The chicken was a little dry and the refried beans weren't as flavorful as they used to be. Jalepeno poppers, guacamole, salsa, chips, queso, and Mexican chorizo were ordered for the table. There were 15 of us.

The top cheese consumer is Denmark. The country consumes 28.1 kilograms of cheese consumption per capita. The second highest consumer is Iceland followed by Finland at 27.7 kilograms and 27.3 kilograms of cheese consumption per capita respectively. France follows closely at 27.2 kilograms of cheese per capita. The French keep high breed dairy cattle which contribute significantly to high production of cheese. At position five is Cyprus which consumes 26.7 kilograms of cheese consumption per capita.

Trying out Costco cat food and I’m afraid Nancy thinks I don’t love her anymore.

Leftovers.

by Anonymousreply 418May 14, 2023 9:31 PM

Nancy knows you love her. Nancy is merely questioning if she still loves you.

Leftovers are a good mitigating tactic.

Not whelming but reliably good

My cat let me trim two stubborn mats. One behind his ear and another by his flank. As a bonus I found a big giant third one on this rump. It was easier to remove than the other two. Now he's cuddling up in bed.

Would it ever be a reasonable purchase? I can see spending $600 on outerwear, but not for a designer shirt.

My neighbours, who are stupid and possibly mad, have thrown cigarette butts into my garden AGAIN.

THIS IS WHELMING.

I have to move, the thought of which underwhelms me.

I used to be whelmed by the perfection with which Del Monte trims and packs the grapefruit segments they sell in both single-serving containers and 64 oz tubs. I wondered if they’d perfected grapefruit DNA or invented some diabolically clever machine that uses lasers or very sharp knives or something in order to create perfect segments from every grapefruit it sees.

Now I just spoon them into a bowl and eat ‘em, one perfect pink grapefruit segment after another.

I have to go to a client luncheon today. My Manager called me yesterday to let me know that the client contact may wear a mask during lunch, may not shake hands, and, here's the kicker, may not EAT during the luncheon. She's overly COVID-cautious. This should be a lot of fun. The client contact is the honoree at the luncheon and she may not eat. Oy vey!

by Anonymousreply 451May 17, 2023 1:42 PM

R491, that means the honoree will skip in, spend less than 15 minutes, and skip out.

I just ate a "pint" (it's only 14 ounces, now) of Häagen-Dazs vanilla swiss almond ice cream. It wasn't as good as I remembered it. I bought it to eat while watching the coronation and I didn't eat it at that time.

Big Trouble With China!

I’ve chipped another soup bowl - all of them are now chipped. This is my third set of china in five years and I don’t even drink.

Each time I say I’m going back to Wedgwood Edme. My initial set survived at least six moves over 25 years. When I trudge online, it’s page after page of the bridal basket decal bullshit. I want plain crazed plates the color of old teeth. I bizarre green. I didn’t even know they had green Edme. I don’t like it.

Fuck.

I was at the dentist all morning having a provisional bridge repaired. It should be whelming: it’s the third time since February that it has broken. OTOH, the repairs are free (the dentistry is not) and I have a $2200 credit balance on my account and am thus, if not underwhelmed, at least able to eat real food again.

by Anonymousreply 463May 18, 2023 5:09 PM

What? Why do you have a $2200 credit balance? I'm not following your story.

by Anonymousreply 464May 18, 2023 5:12 PM

Take a hoodie r459!

by Anonymousreply 465May 18, 2023 5:18 PM

Because all told, most of a new mouth at Boston University’s Dental School costs about $44,000, about $18,000 of which is my responsibility spread over three years. It’s good dental insurance but it doesn’t cover everything. Or almost anything if the tooth had been worked on in the three years before they started. I won’t get dentures so it was either suck it up and pay up or don’t eat much that needs chewing.

And knowing the very cute Kuwaiti post-doc doing most of the work will soon have his hands in my mouth makes the ride over there at 7 am a bit less whelming, too.

by Anonymousreply 466May 18, 2023 5:34 PM

Yesterday, I bought a perfect-looking pineapple (skin was a golden / orange color all over). Even the worker in the self-checkout area commented on it. I cut off the crown, cut off the skin, cut out the core, and sliced it up. Look and texture are fine. Taste? I've had better. Maybe as we move into summer, these pineapples will start tasting better.

by Anonymousreply 467May 18, 2023 7:38 PM

To today’s unnecessary Costco purchase: Scented candles.

by Anonymousreply 468May 18, 2023 7:44 PM

Ugh, R468. I used to always buy something "extra" at Costco.

You feel like you're saving money by shopping there (even though you're paying for membership). You stick to your list, then you feel like you can buy something else, just to try it out.

My income is low this year. So, I just stick to my list.

by Anonymousreply 475May 19, 2023 2:03 AM

R451 here. The client contact did not wear a mask, she hugged everyone (some of us, were meeting her for the first time) and ate lunch with the rest of us. She was actually quite nice and friendly but she's still a pain in my ass.

by Anonymousreply 495May 25, 2023 9:58 PM

R495, sounds like a metaphor for something ...

by Anonymousreply 496May 25, 2023 10:04 PM

After much reflection, I have decided to sign up for a fortnightly organic veg box delivery. It’s going to cost £17 per fortnight.

I had thought of getting a weekly delivery, but the logistics seemed whelming.

by Anonymousreply 501May 25, 2023 11:52 PM

It can be whelming, r501. Are you able to order what you want? Or do they send you whatever they want? I gave up on the second type. Too much zucchini. Not enough tomatoes.

by Anonymousreply 502May 25, 2023 11:55 PM

R502, the supplier chooses the contents, based on seasonality. I have mild concerns about a surfeit of potatoes and about the very threat of aubergines, but apparently I can veto up to three contents of the box.

by Anonymousreply 503May 26, 2023 12:04 AM

Let us know how it works out, r503.

by Anonymousreply 504May 26, 2023 12:08 AM

I didn't like the season geowers box. What am I going to do with 1 carrot? Some weeks it's and onion a zuchinni and a couple potatoes. If you could choose what you want and quantity it would be better. Oh, and it wasn't cheap. I did it 3 times.

by Anonymousreply 505May 26, 2023 1:46 AM

There's always too much zucchini, R502. This is the reason for off-putting recipes such as zucchini bread and , heaven help us, zucchini cake.

Home gardeners can't give zucchini away.

by Anonymousreply 512May 26, 2023 3:09 PM

Hope everything is OK, R512!

by Anonymousreply 513May 26, 2023 3:10 PM

I started Ozempic this week, just the baby dose, and haven't been hungry since Wednesday. It's not "speedy" like amphetamines, so not overwhelmed, nor am I particularly underwhelmed, having lost three pounds in three days - unsurprising since I haven't been eating as much and not snacking at all. What was whelming in a good way was seeing my blood sugar go from 221 to 93 in less than an hour after the first, half-strength injection at the doc's office.

What I can't figure out yet is whether its effect is physiological or psychological. Am I eating less because it induces satiety (makes you feel full) faster with less food so you don't eat as much? Or am I taking an expensive medicine that I want to work (mostly for blood sugar control with Type-2 diabetes, not weight loss) so I'm deliberately not eating as much? Too soon to know, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 514May 26, 2023 4:12 PM

Yeah, hope you're OK R512.

We're coming up to Memorial Day weekend. Hope everybody is doing fine and enjoys the long weekend.

by Anonymousreply 517May 26, 2023 5:13 PM

R516 So far, none, but it's too early to know if I'll look like Mindy Kaling by next month. I hope not - I don't look like her now.

And Ozempic is less likely to cause thyroid cancer, according to the doc, than Mounjaro.

My friend Theresa lost 30 pounds on Wegovy in three months and has kept it off for two years, so I've at least seen one person for whom this class of drugs has worked.

by Anonymousreply 520May 26, 2023 10:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 524May 26, 2023 11:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 525May 27, 2023 12:24 AM

Hopefully, it’s a spring cleaning before the Holiday weekend and they’ll settle down by Monday, R525.

It’s a memorial day, not a make lots of noise celebration day.

by Anonymousreply 526May 27, 2023 12:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 527May 27, 2023 1:16 AM

Your post is a bit whelming, R527, because it makes no sense. Did you mean to say it was 2 a.m. and you were wide awake?

by Anonymousreply 528May 27, 2023 1:21 AM

R528, yes I meant 2am. I’m wide awake and waiting for the dawn after just 3 hours of sleep. It’s whelming indeed.

by Anonymousreply 535May 27, 2023 6:37 AM

R353, that's a fantastic idea for a refrigerator feature. Set a lock to prevent eating after 8 p.m., and another to prevent kids snacking after school. I'd buy it.

I made lasagne and decided to wrap squares of it in pairs to freeze and to give away. I'm going to have to soak the pan for a while.

I'm drinking black coffee right now because I can't have dairy products while I'm on this thyroid medication.

by Anonymousreply 542May 27, 2023 2:50 PM

You made dairy-free lasagne?

by Anonymousreply 543May 27, 2023 5:13 PM

Company is downsizing. I fear I may be out of work soon. Work mates are panicking. Some of these people have been at this job for over 20 years, some right out of highschool. They know nothing but insurance fraud. It will be tough to get another job, and in this dire economic climate. Thankfully I have a master's and bachelor 's which I got while working at this job after high-school.

by Anonymousreply 544May 27, 2023 6:57 PM

R544, you're lost. That's the very definition of whelming.

by Anonymousreply 545May 27, 2023 7:10 PM

[quote]You made dairy-free lasagne?

Should have mentioned I have to take the medication in the morning and can't have dairy 4 hours before and after.

by Anonymousreply 546May 27, 2023 7:22 PM

R546, I don’t know if this will work for you or not, but this is what I do.

I keep my thyroid pills in the bathroom because I know I’ll get up to pee by 2am or so and that’s when I take it. Enough time since I last ate, and plenty of time before I eat breakfast.

On the rare night that I sleep all the way through, I just take it in the morning and skip breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 547May 27, 2023 7:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 549May 27, 2023 7:52 PM

I bought some "Coastal" / Kirkland / Costco brand "mature English" cheddar cheese. That's in addition to the Kerrygold Dubliner and Kingdom brand cheddar that I also got from Costco.

Anyway, the Coastal cheddar cheese, so far, tastes pretty good. Little bit crumbly in texture. The Kingdom cheddar might have an edge on it.

I need to get used to it, but I'm liking my new Apple computer keyboard. It's wireless and has the number pad on the right side. My old Dell keyboard is almost like a mechanical (clacky-sounding) keyboard. I wouldn't mind finding a really comfortable mechanical keyboard.

This Apple keyboard is quiet, though, which is good.

I found the paintbrush, so I’ll paint the gate tomorrow morning.

Four hours before and after R548. And I have to take antacids later on at night because I can't take those during that window either

I planted Black-Eyed Susans and the next day they looked dead. I looked it up and they commonly do that until they are established. Whew!

Lady and I are waiting to pay at Walgreens and we sort of bond over the fact that there is just one person working the register, and she is dealing with a complicated return by a ditz, so the line is standing still.

My state has banned disposable paper and plastic bags to protect the environment. People have learned to carry reusable bags to shop, but the lady has none, and therefore has to carry her assorted items to the parking lot. She looks at me and says “This is America and we can’t get a shopping bag?” This pegs her immediately as a MAGA asshole who thinks “They” have taken away her rights. Bond over

I am waiting calmly waiting for groceries as a perfectly normal adult does.

This is only my third time. I give good tip, but I also buy all my heavy shit when it’s a delivery.

R558, here.

I am the root vegetable king! Where the fuck am I going to store all this stuff?

by Anonymousreply 559May 28, 2023 7:56 PM

Peonies are in bloom. Made a decent cut arrangement; smells lovely.

by Anonymousreply 560May 28, 2023 8:06 PM

I feel so depressed

[quote] I am the root vegetable king! Where the fuck am I going to store all this stuff?

How about the drawers in your refrigerator?

by Anonymousreply 562May 28, 2023 8:07 PM

Most root vegetables are fine at room temp as long as they can breathe.

by Anonymousreply 563May 28, 2023 8:16 PM

Trick: If they refrigerate it in a grocery store it needs to be refrigerated, if they don't then you can keep at room temp.

by Anonymousreply 564May 28, 2023 8:17 PM

[quote] Most root vegetables are fine at room temp as long as they can breathe.

A root cellar is between 32 and 40° F.

So, if your room is between 32 and 40 F, you should be OK.

by Anonymousreply 567May 28, 2023 8:52 PM

When I complained of how bored i was today, no long weekend plans , an acquaintance of mine told me his life is so mundane that he lives in a dreamworld. When I probed him to further explain, he said he frequently imagines that he is someone else, I.e. gets lost in thought imagining a life with a group of friends, he works as an FBI agent, he has spoke, kids etc.

Is this considered an illness?

by Anonymousreply 568May 28, 2023 9:03 PM

I'm watching the national memorial day concert

by Anonymousreply 569May 29, 2023 1:49 AM

Thank God I got to the weed store just before they blocked off Elm St for the Memorial Day Parade.

by Anonymousreply 570May 29, 2023 11:12 AM

I am glad we are nearing the end of this thread because r569 clearly wins the "Most Underwhelming" post.

by Anonymousreply 571May 29, 2023 12:04 PM

If people are going to treat Memorial Day and Veterans Day as essentially interchangeable “Thank the Troops” holidays, we should combine them and free up space for a new holiday.

[quote] I found the paintbrush, so I’ll paint the gate tomorrow morning.

I actually didn’t paint it yesterday, so I have just done it now. It looks much better, even though I only applied one coat. And the small tin of paint was the perfect size and means I won’t have half of a large tin hanging around the house for months/years.

New thread.

I know some object to the emojis in the title. I find it helpful locating my favorite thread in the thread list.

Sorry about the dodo in the OP. It was an accident.

I broke my apple slicer on a honey crisp. I think I’ll stick with a paring knife.

by Anonymousreply 575May 29, 2023 5:25 PM

I use a large knife to slice apples, esp. a large one like a Honeycrisp.

by Anonymousreply 576May 29, 2023 5:42 PM

Today I'm making Split Pea Soup. I've already chopped the garlic, onions, celery, carrots and potatoes and measured out all of the spices/herbs in a small glass bowl. I'm not having it for dinner tonight but for dinner on Tuesday and the rest of the soup I will freezer into two large rubbermaid containers and place them in my freezer.

by Anonymousreply 577May 29, 2023 5:44 PM

Sorry for the typo- I meant to type I will freeze into two large rubbermaid containers.

by Anonymousreply 578May 29, 2023 5:47 PM

Ham?

by Anonymousreply 579May 29, 2023 5:48 PM

I plan to make split pea soup soon. The ingredients are on my shopping list. I use onions, potatoes (Yukon Gold-type), a large can of tomatoes, smoked paprika, and dried oregano. It's a pretty minimalist recipe, but really good.

No ham in mine, but I do serve it with grated cheese on top. And Tabasco sauce.

by Anonymousreply 580May 29, 2023 5:49 PM

We knew, r578. Sounds wonderful. Split pea is my favorite soup.

by Anonymousreply 581May 29, 2023 5:49 PM

Isn't it hard to cut the peas in half? They're so little.

by Anonymousreply 582May 29, 2023 5:58 PM

I buy mine pre-cut.

by Anonymousreply 583May 29, 2023 6:01 PM

I bought a tongue scraper and an avocado slicer the other day and tried them both today. Interestingly, they're both plastic and similar in shape - a handle extending to a flat, oval-shaped plane (like the bowl of a spoon if it were flat and hollowed-out leaving only the rim), the former with plastic tines running across the oval to scrape the crud off your tongue, the latter with plastic tines running from top to bottom to cut a pitted avocado half into neat, even slices.

Neither works very well. My tongue looks and feels the same post-scraping as it did pre-scrape and an avocado would have to achieve some unattainably perfect state of ripeness in order to be firm enough to hold the shape of the slices but not be so firm that they can't be cut with a plastic blade

Three dollars wasted.

by Anonymousreply 584May 29, 2023 6:04 PM

I once hired two brothers to split the peas. One ran out and purchased a bag and the other tried to fuck the cat.

Never again will I wield such power and it is for the best.

by Anonymousreply 585May 29, 2023 6:04 PM

My Aunt used to make Double Split Pea Soup. Quartering the damn things took her hours and always gave her a headache. I tried it once. Sliced my thumb clean off.

by Anonymousreply 586May 29, 2023 6:06 PM

I don't understand all these gadgets for slicing avocados. So easy to do. Slice the avocado in half, pole-to-pole. Break the 2 pieces apart. Drop the blade of your knife into the seed, twist, and dump the seed.

Now, you have to equal halves. Get a dull knife, like a butter knife, and cut long slices (or cross-hatched if you want cubes) into the avocado. Get a large-ish spoon (for Hass avocados, I use a soup spoon) and scoop out your slices.

by Anonymousreply 587May 29, 2023 6:11 PM

Something I've done untold times, R587.

A hundred or so years ago, there was no such thing as pre-sliced bread. The egg slicer was invented a few years before that.

I'd hoped that avocado slicing might likewise be even further advanced than you detail above using a $2 plastic tool from China.

I was wrong.

by Anonymousreply 588May 29, 2023 6:20 PM

R587, many of these contraptions are designed to replace knives that can be used as weapons.

I work in what would be considered an extremely diverse environment and I can bring in an apple slicer, but I don’t want to a knife/target for opportunistic theft or client knowledge that I keep a paring knife.

by Anonymousreply 589May 29, 2023 6:21 PM

R579- No ham. My recipe is vegan and really tasty.

My Split Pea Soup is simmering right now. In two minutes I shall add the carrots, celery and the fingerling potatoes and cook for another 20 minutes then use the immersion blender to liquify then pour into two large glass bowls to cool.

by Anonymousreply 597May 29, 2023 10:51 PM

Do you puree the whole batch, r597? (I only do half.)

by Anonymousreply 598May 29, 2023 10:55 PM

R598- That would be the best way to prepare it. This way you still have some nice chunks of carrots and potatoes and celery but I usually just liquify the entire giant soup pot of soup.

by Anonymousreply 599May 29, 2023 11:00 PM

Wow, why go through all that trouble only to liquify the entire pot.
