Did Olivia de Havilland lie when she said she never rode his big Tasmanian cock? There's no way any woman (or man) would be able to resist someone who looked like Errol did in his prime.

I think he looked his best circa 1938 in The Dawn Patrol and possibly The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (1939). I’d like to see him in Four's a Crowd (1938) with another handsome guy, Patric Knowles who looked sort of like him but darker.

Flynn is often overlooked because he was mostly cast as swashbuckling heroes and that is what the public demanded. His looks faded fast thanks to his dissipation, and he looked at least a decade older by the time of his death at 50. But he was perhaps the most handsome leading man of the 1930s. GENTLEMAN JIM (1942) showed his body off to good advantage, though his looks were already beginning to harden.

Thanks for posting that link on his gorgeous son Sean! You saved me the trouble of looking for material meant to bring initially him into the discussion.
I fist saw Sean onscreen circa 1962 or '63 when he appeared in a swashbuckler titled, "Son of Captain Blood". His film career was brief and basically unsuccessful and over within 4 years
I was captivated by the action in the "Son of Captain Blood" flick as well as by the brief whipping scene in it that saw Sean go under the lash at the hands of some cruel pirates. That imagery in film captivated me and seems to have been an early part of my then budding interest in depictions of corporal punishment. It never left me and is readily available online.

Unlike his peer Cary Grant, who maintained his looks and health well into his 60s and could still believably play romantic leading men opposite younger ladies, Errol Flynn looked OLD in his 40s. But at least he enjoyed himself while doing it (growing old).

In his autobiography, Robert Wagner told of delivering a script to Flynn’s studio dressing room one day and finding the door ajar, he proceeded to enter.
Flynn was sitting in a chair facing the door while some starlet was on her knees sucking his cock.
Flynn motioned with his head for Wagner to place the script on a table, which Wagner did before hightailing it out of there.

R66 He did mention it according to this article, "March 1955. Errol slapped Confidential with a lawsuit. There was no mention of voyeur novelties in the actual legal filing. Instead, he took exception to the magazine’s inference that he had abandoned his bride on their wedding night, for the company of a prostitute. Flynn asked for one million dollars in damages. Eventually a settlement of fifteen thousand dollars was awarded. Errol later wrote in his autobiography, "I hasten to affirm the truth of [a] Confidential report that I had a mirror over my bed. The publication reported that it was a two-way mirror. You could be on the other side of that mirror, in a room above, and look down and see what was going on ... Alas, as they used to say when properties were broken in Victorian times - this was true. With the exception of once in the case of [Olympic bobsleigh champion] Freddie McEvoy, this gadget never got to be used ... It was a magic mirror all right, but when the word of this got out, nobody wanted to be caught in that annexe of the apartment." Steve Hayes explained, “Flynn’s best friend for years – Freddy McEvoy – was also a victim, but according to E.F. it didn’t bother him. He just laughed it off and said he hoped Errol learned a few tips about ‘fucking’ and making love to a woman … Freddy could get any woman he wanted, just like Errol, so he didn’t kow-tow to him at all.” Hedy Lamarr wrote in her autobiography, Ecstasy and Me, "I knew Errol's house well. Many of the bathrooms have peepholes or ceiling with squares of opaque glass through which you can't see out but someone can see in." Matzen, speaking over the phone from his Virginia home explained, “There were two viewing tubes, like reverse periscopes, on the second floor that looked down on the first. You could look down from the second floor to see who was coming in. He had another one down by the den.”
Actually there are wilder things in his book than admitting the peephole stuff though.

In the 90's I saw French actress Annabella (who had been married to Tyrone Power) interviewed on French TV and she spoke about tensions in Hollywood during the late 30s and early 40's re the third reich.
It was very interesting because she explained things in a bit of an historical context. Many French she said felt sorry for Germany after WWI, etc. She was anti-fascist but many other French artists in Hollywood did not share her view. .
She said Errol Flynn was a dear friend but she didn't mention his political views.

Starlet Beverly Aadland was 15 years old when she began a sexual relationship with 48-year old Errol Flynn. When Flynn's 16-year-old son, Sean, came for a visit and he introduced him to Beverly, Sean thought that she was to be his date for the evening! Pops would tease Sean about Beverly, "Don't talk that way to your mother!... This little girl may very well be your mother some day."

R69, Flynn and David did not get along. IMO he does some of his worst acting in his first movie with her ("The Sisters"). He was better in their "The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex," but still pretty unconvincing in their love scenes. There's a scene where Elizabeth slaps Essex, and he complained that she hit him much harder than necessary. Supposedly she passed on playing Scarlett O'Hara because Warner Bros. insisted on her loan for the movie being part of a package deal with Errol as Rhett Butler, but she refused to work with him again.

George Hamilton was Sean Flynn's high school friend from their days in Palm Beach. When Hamilton was in town filming "Where the Boys Are?," he rang up Flynn and asked him to come to the set, where he introduced him to producer Joe Pasternak, who gave him a small role.
George claimed Errol Flynn would procure hookers for Sean and that Sean told him when he was younger, his dad would take him to brothels in France and Italy as a rite of passage.

Errol Flynn had such massive genital warts upon his death, Vancouver's chief pathologist removed them and soaked them in formaldehyde to allow medical students to research them.

Even though I liked the R81 interview I find it hard to believe Flynn or someone in his house on Mulholland Drive murdered someone or that Flynn was a sadist. Wasn't he kind of well liked by many of his peers? Yes, he did get lost in his chemical addictions and alcohol and his behavior was outrageous but I tend to believe he was gossiped about more because of the ability to make money from it by the newspapers and growing up in Hollywood maybe Gunnar heard the stories so long he thought them believable. I wish Gunnar would write a book. He has a lot to say because he heard things and experienced things in Hollywood the rest of us would love to read.

I've read lots of stories about Flynn....
1. Elizabeth and Essex - Yes Bette slapped him for real in that scene and Flynn was pissed off. Later on in the movie, Essex slaps Elizabeth on the ass and Flynn smacked BD but good.
2. While handsome in many movies, I think he looks his best in "Elizabeth and Essex". The color is splendid and he looks wonderful..
3. Bette never thought he was much of an actor. Years later, her friend Olivia insisted that Davis watch some of the EF movies. BD admitted that EF was very good.
4. EF had a heart attack when shooting "Gentleman Jim" and was away from the set for a time. When he returned, his co-star Alexis Smith told him that he had to take better care of himself because they did not want to lose him too soon. Flynn replied that he didn't care about the older years of his life, but intended to keep on with his wild ways.
5. When John Barrymore died, as a gag, some friends stole JB's body from the funeral home, drove it to EF's home and set him (JB) up in a chair so that when EF returned, he was shocked to see the dead JB sitting in his living room.
6. He had some close female friends - like Ida Lupino, Alexis Smith, and Ann Sheridan.
7. He tried to enlist after Pearl Harbor but his health was so bad, they wouldn't take him.
8. He liked young girls. I remember reading that he invited Shirley Temple and her husband John Agar to one of his parties. After a time ST and JA were planning to leave and EF supposedly said "Shirley, you can stay.'
9. When he died in Vancouver that medical examiner would have thought, given the state of his body, that EF was much older.
10. He was born in Tasmania. His father was a professor (from Northern Ireland, I think) and his parents were upper class. He mother used to describe him as a "nasty little boy".
Link to story about his last day, death and autopsy.

“There's one thing I want to make clear right off: my baby was a virgin the day she met Errol Flynn.”
Mrs. Florence Aadland was born on September 21, 1909, in Van Zandt County, Texas. She moved to Southern California and subsequently lost her right foot in a car accident. She married bartender Herbert Aadland and gave birth to her daughter Beverly on September 16, 1942, in Los Angeles. The affair between her adolescent daughter and actor Errol Flynn became tabloid news with his death from a heart attack on October 14, 1959. Her account of the relationship between her daughter and Errol Flynn, THE BIG LOVE, was "told to" writer Tedd Thomey and originally published in 1961. Mrs. Aadland died from alcohol- related causes in a Los Angeles hospital on May 10, 1965, at the age of fifty-five.

R73 I did not read the Flynn book by Higham but I did read his book about William Desmond Taylor, which very deliberately leads the reader by the nose to a sensational conclusion by the author on who murdered the director. This is what is said about Higham:
"In 1980, Higham's "most sensational work," Errol Flynn: The Untold Story appeared. In this biography he alleged that Errol Flynn was a fascist sympathizer, who spied for the Nazis before and during World War II[20] and a bisexual who had affairs with many men. "I don't have a document that says A, B, C, D, E, Errol Flynn was a Nazi agent," Higham said in an interview, "But I have pieced together a mosaic that proves that he is." Lawrence S. Dietz in his New York Times review at the time of the book's first publication complained about the writer's "shoddy reporting, about the must-have-happeneds that Mr. Higham constructs to use material contained in the documents he has read." James Wolcott, writing for The New York Review of Books, described the biography's preoccupation with the subject's sex life as "keyhole-peeping porn, written by a man whose mind has turned to pulp." Members of Flynn's family unsuccessfully sued Higham and the book's publisher for libel, a claim which was dismissed on appeal in 1983 because the suit was on behalf of someone who was deceased.
Tony Thomas, in Errol Flynn: The Spy Who Never Was (Citadel, 1990) and Buster Wiles in My Days With Errol Flynn: The Autobiography of a Stuntman (Roundtable, 1988) identified Higham's claims as fabrications, an assertion substantiated by viewing the FBI documents, which were altered – rather than quoted verbatim – by Higham. In 2000 Higham restated his claim that Flynn had been a German agent, which he said was corroborated by Anne Lane, secretary to MI5 chief Sir Percy Sillitoe from 1946 to 1951, who had been responsible for maintaining Flynn's file there (although he never saw the file, and could not even confirm its physical existence); and also by journalist Gerry Brown, who said he had been briefed by the Ministry of Defence".

Of course Flynn was also affectionately parodied in My Favorite Year, where Peter O'Toole played "Alan Swan".

He was classified as a 4-F when he tried to join the military during WW II. Bad heart and liver from his excessive drinking and a couple of untreated STDS.

The Errol Flynn was a Nazi spy nonsense is only slightly less of a moronic conspiracy than the Orson Welles/John Huston killed the third rate hooker/Black Dahlia.

I have a cute story to share about Errol Flynn. I have a friend who is a Texas oil princess via her mother's side of the family. She told me when her mother was a teenager she took a trip to LA and stayed at the Hollywood Hotel (I believe that was the name of the hotel). While she was laying out by the pool Errol Flynn came by for a swim. To this day her mother's face lights up like a Christmas tree recalling the story of the time she "met" Errol Flynn.

Olivia de Havilland attended a NYC cocktail party in the late 1950s, where someone tapped her on the shoulder.
She turned around to see a strange man behind her.
It was Errol Flynn, whose face was so deteriorated from booze she did not recognize him until he spoke.

[quote]he was a product of British public schools and an actor, and he freaked out over a little attempted seduction?
Sorry bub but British public schools are not the hotbed of homosexuality that your overactive fantasies think. There have been some cases of pedo teachers and many straight pupils are extremely traumatised by it.

^^^ I went to a boarding school in the UK myself so I know something about it. There was no casual attitude about homosexuality in them in my experience. Straight pupils often strongly reacted to it with negativity.

Also Sean Flynn (birth name Sean Rio Amir, son of Errol's daughter Rory and some guy named Amir). Co-star of the Nickelodeon show 'Zoey 101' along with Jamie Lynn Spears.
