Buster fucked him and killed did him and now the whole world is going to find out. Also Buster smells funny down there.
Buster may have fucked him, but I bet it was Paw Paw who killed him.

The entire Murdaugh family really is disgusting and vile.

Stephen had such a lovely face. He looked like he was a kind person. I hope he and his family get justice.

If mom was so interested, loving and concerned for her clearly flamboyantly gay kid and the circumstances of his death, why is she demanding this only now at peak attention-attraction time? Why wasn’t there active outrage and calls for justice prior to all of this? Why did this young man have to wait nearly a decade for someone, especially his family to take action? There will also be money needed for attorneys, investigators, more discovery etc.. will the GoFundMe stay active? Or will it pay out quietly? Sorry to be so cynical but I’m from the extreme rural south. There’s a strong chance we eventually hear how mom & “family” decided it the pain wasn’t worth it or how devastating the ordeal would be to Stephen’s memory and how the money will instead be used to start a never-launched college fund for gay kids or maybe to “build the home Stephen always dreamed of building for his mama”….

R5 How successful would they have been in fighting the Murdaugh family ten years ago, when they were still very powerful? Now is that family's chance to seek justice, since that power has been demolished.

How do you know there wasn’t?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 18, 2023 2:24 PM |
R5 There was. Stephen's family was/is poor, and had zero chance against the giant Murdaugh's back then.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 18, 2023 2:26 PM |
R5, take a seat. R6/R8 are correct. The family seems to have loved their son. Just based on the headstone alone I think the family loved him.

I think some of you are delusional true crime fan fraus who love shit like this.
An outraged mother, seeking justice, for her kid, would not be stopped by the mere thought of a rich or intimidating family. Never. If there had been an ongoing effort by the family to seek justice, we surely would have seen interviews with mom and other family members during the sensationalism of the trial. Think about all those black mothers, whose sons have been murdered by locally powerful police forces. None of them were silent. All of them took on the establishment without any fear of intimidation, before knowing they would win or receive settlements, etc. If any of you here have ever loved anyone, put yourself in the situation and ask if you would have just piped down for 8 1/2 years anticipating there would be some strategically “right time“ to seek justice. That’s absurd..
I’m not saying the mother and family aren’t sincere at all, I’m just saying the timing of their sincerity is suspect to me. But when they exhume the body, and after some effort and money has been spent, I’ll come back here to eat crow if that’s the case. And I really hope it is. I grew up being a gay kid on the back roads of the rural south, so I know a little something about that life, and about those mamas who can love you one minute, but can condemn you to hell the next.

R10, I think you're oddly prejudiced against the mom. Just because you had a shitty family from the South doesn't mean it applies to everyone.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 18, 2023 2:40 PM |
Agreed, r11.
R10 is blaming the mother…poor, likely uneducated & definitely not as powerful nor as savvy as the Murdaugh family.

by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 18, 2023 2:44 PM |
R10 You don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Stephen's mother has been talking to anyone she could, asking why the crime hadn't been solved.
Anyone who followed the "Murdaugh Murders" podcast knows the mother and how relentless she has been in trying to get justice.
The reality is that she is poor and the media lost interest in her son's case. It was only after the murders of Maggie and Paul that any spotlight turned back on her son's case. And even then, it was very dim compared to the spotlight on Paul's death, which is ironic, as he might have been the one to kill Stephen.

There is corruption in all places. However, the south has a particular type of corruption. Judges, attorneys, and other licensed professionals tend to converge when the corruption is lucrative. It’s seen as survival of the fittest in the south. It’s extremely disgusting how the legal system gave him a pass until he started including them in the causality. Might makes right is horribly primitive and oversimplified. It’s also to the point that southern attorneys act like medieval gatekeepers by considering the testimony of people on the lower aspect of the power differential to be null and void. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Very few can pass the Stanford prison experiment test.

People are assuming that it was Buster who was in a relationship with Stephen, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that it was one of Buster's uncles.
Stephen was working as a prostitute and older men were his specialty.
And Randy IMMEDIATELY popped up and tried to insinuate himself into the situation once Stephen had died. He was even seen by the mother at the crime scene.

R17, can you link to a source for the escort claim? I’m curious to see. It certainly could be true — so please don’t read my post as DL snark. I just haven’t read that about Stephen.
It would explain Randy’s involvement! He’s really ….odd.

R19 That old, disheveled man who said he told Stephen he wanted a "boyfriend-boyfriend" relationship not a "father-son" relationship when the escort agency asked Stephen to get waxed, is creepy AF.
I feel very badly for Stephen that he had to see that thing naked.
And I think that man is protesting too much about "creepy older men who are looking for men who look like boys."

Yeah, you're just cynical, and maybe a lil' bitter.
I frequent a mostly-sports (mainly SEC) message board. The South Carolina contingent has been discussing the creepy corrupt Murdaugh family for some years now. Stephen's family has been trying to get people interested in their loved one for years, likening it to that blonde girl killed in the Caribbean years ago. Too bad Nancy Grace's showed ended before they could get national interest piqued.
You know how y'all (including Fox/OAN/Newsmax, conservative radio, and even black-oriented board like LSA stay shitting on Rev. Al Sharpton and Att'y Benjamin Crump and BLM for "race hustling?"
Maybe poor working class whites should start reaching out to those entities and making common cause with them, because the white power structure could not care less about poor/working class white people; they only want their anger and their votes. Classic divide and conquer.
I know for a fact Sharpton/NAN, Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH, the NAACP, and similar orgs have always welcomed non-blacks to join the cause. Just as NAACP from its inception, as Jackson did with Cesar Chavez in the 1970s. And remember Rev. Sharpton was arrested and went on a hunger strike to protest the US Navy's bombing practice in Puerto Rico back in the 90s.
I betcha if Stephen’s mother had reached out to Ben Crump or Sharpton years ago, EVERYONE in this country would've known who Stephen N. Smith was. Plus the gay angle (Sharpton's sister is a lesbian and he's always been an ally).
In an oligarchy like the US, squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you're not of privilege you'll never be heard otherwise.
