They will, however, fit in my oven.

What I don't understand is the selling point. Every kitchen I know already has an oven and cooking plates. Now I'm being asked to buy an extra kitchen gadget and ignore the utilities I've already paid for and been in my kitchen forever? For ... convenience? How many people can afford that right now (abandon still functioning kitchen utilities in favor of a new, shiny toy)?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 18, 2023 2:13 PM |
R27. If you're not willing to abandon something for convenience, what are you willing to abandon it for?

by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 18, 2023 5:22 PM |
Some of us can't just give up our gas stoves, because our houses are not wired for electric stoves (regular or induction.) It would be quite expensive to install the appropriate outlet for an electric stove.
Same goes for houses that are wired for gas dryers -- we can't just magically replace it with an electric one. And that also makes it more difficult to install a charger for an electric vehicle.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 18, 2023 5:23 PM |
I'm assuming there's a US version of this appliance that doesn't have a setting for "Hob." And someone needs to tell Emma or her proofreader/editor that we don't use the pound sign to designate US dollars.

A gas stove used to prepare a family lunch in the summer in the South heats up a kitchen something terrible.
Yeah, you may have AC but it's working extra hard just to cool down your kitchen. Your wouldn't have that energy waste if you had an induction stove.

Which is interesting because electric tea kettles have never really caught on in the US. I bought one simply because it doesn't heat up the kitchen.

Induction tops discriminate against people with shitty pans and electric ovens always lie about the temperature.
An old stove with plugged burners and a kinky pipe is all we needed back in my day. You checked the warming drawer to make sure the cat hadn’t hidden a carcas.

Perhaps some of you freaking out over gas stoves might want to browse the numerous videos on Youtube of peoples entire houses being completely decimated due to gas leaks. Non-gas ovens/stoves are simply safer imo. The recent concern over gas stoves primarily stemmed from the fact that many homes with them aren't properly ventilated for them. At best, they simply have a fan over the stove which does nothing but just blow the air (and leaking gas) around in your kitchen.
That said, I've put off getting an air fryer because I simply don't have the counter space for one. I live in a condo with a smaller galley style kitchen - there's just nowhere for me to put it. I do however frequently use my toaster oven as opposed to my main oven. It's simply faster for me to broil stuff than waiting for my main oven to heat up properly. It also has a convection setting, though it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as intense as an air fryer.

I was recently given an induction hot plate, and it is incredible. It is easy to clean, uses way less power than my electric stove burners, heats quickly and evenly, and doesn't scorch the bottoms of my pans. I used to wish that I could go back to gas, but I am all in for induction now.

Amazing how quickly this has changed. Just 3 years ago when I was buying, realtors said people want gas stoves because they are better for cooks. I was wary of buying a house without a gas stove. Now it’s almost the opposite. Amazing.

Big hood vents are just smoke-eaters pulling air through filters. An electric oven doesn’t throw leaks and vapor into an unventilated kitchen.
Perhaps that’s the real reason they sell open plan kitchens.
