What happened to Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos?

On July 24, 2015 the Florida teens took their boat out to sea and were never seen again. The boat was found 2 days later unattended. The Coast Guard lost track of the boat, and it wasn't found again until March of 2016, which is when they got hold of the cell phone and personal belongings.

2 very stupid boys who paid a dear price for their stupidity. What really was ridiculous is how their parents kept insisting the coast guard and other state agencies keep looking for them, weeks after they disappeared. IIRC the parents also spent a vast sum of money hiring people to search for them. I get they were grieving,I get they wanted to have hope,BUT it was obvious when the boat was 1st spotted they were gone.

My theory: when they saw the storm coming in, they wanted to test themselves, so they stopped and switched off the ignition and battery (to make sure the boat wouldn't go anywhere) and jumped off the boat to experience treading water in the open ocean. They'd figured they could just swim back to the boat at any time, but when they saw the boat being taken away by the current—they panicked and swam after it. The rough waters made catching up with the boat impossible and they quickly became exhausted and couldn't chase it any longer. Then the storm came in and the water got so choppy they didn't have the energy to tread anymore.

R8/OP, that is awfully specific.

Can you account for your whereabouts on July 24, 2015?

This happened 8 years ago? It seems so recent.

Severe thunderstorms came in and boys were subsequently lost at sea. Their bodies became shark or otherwise food for creatures of the sea. What was left (bones) would have eventually sunk to bottom of ocean.
