Perennially, right wingers, often gays ones, will ask if we really need Gay Pride parades anymore. (“Gays are treated equally now so what’s the point?!”)
So I’m asking about all the other prides parades—St Patrick’s, Columbus Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day. Do we need those parades any more?

People need another excuse to get drunk. It's kind of sad that with all of the rich literature, music, etc. which came from Ireland, the biggest thing anyone associates them with is drinking.

I think it's not about whether we "need" to have a parade for this or any other type of group demographic's celebratory parade event, but that there should always be a right to be able to have one, as long as we're not talking about something that will be causing physical harm to anybody if it's requested and approved to be held. But if it's about somebody not agreeing with or getting their feelings hurt about the type of parade--tough for them, then just decide to choose not to attend it and get a hobby.
