NBC drops Billboard Awards

NBC has opted not to continue with the show as it focuses on growing its own People’s Choice Awards franchise.

Search is under way to find a new network for the Billboard Music Awards, which DCP has been producing since 2014.

People’s Choice Awards winners are told beforehand that they won, to get them to attend.

I always hated the Billboard Awards. The Blockbuster Entertainment Awards were better.

Great news, the media ecosystem is over saturated with award shows

Billboard became the K-Pop promotion show a few years back and lost its luster. I'm a fan of K-Pop and have been since before it was ever big in America, but it's niche for a reason. Ratings grabs to various fanbases made it less of an award show for successful artists and more of a launching pad to promote new international ones.

Cancel it, one less opportunity for a bunch of mediocre “entertainers” to push some far left woke agenda down our throats.

BET will pick it up and promote the hip-hop stars of the day.

It will be picked up very quickly by a cable network.

Only one, and it is the most successful group in the world. Maybe, because they are serving in the military until 2025 the awards can continue with more " worthy and " successful" artists, unlike the " niche," ones who contributed 4 billion dollars annually to the country's economy, but need a "launching pad" from the Billboard awards. Bring on the myriad of hip-hoppers and the almost naked fat women gyrating on the screen. Yes, that's so worthy.

Don't they give awards to Flabba Jackson? Then who cares?

Billboard began losing its viewership when it became the hip-hop/rap awards, dominated by people who are known to only a certain segment of the audience. Hip hoppers and Taylor Swift. These are the criteria for winning an award:

Billboard Music Award winners are determined by performance on the Billboard charts, which for decades have been a go-to guide for ranking the popularity of artists, songs and albums.

This year’s awards are based on music consumption reflected on Billboard charts dated November 19, 2022 through October 21, 2023. Winners are based on key fan interactions with music, including audio and video streaming, album and song sales, radio airplay and touring.

Olivia Rodrigo, Ye and Drake were the big winners at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, which were hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs. The ceremony was broadcast live on May 15 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on NBC.

People’s Choice are bottom of the awards show barrel.

by Anonymousreply 10March 17, 2023 4:29 PM

Good. Fake award show.

by Anonymousreply 11March 17, 2023 4:30 PM

The Billboard Awards is produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is now owned by Ryan Seacrest, so maybe ABC will air it, as a favor to the American Idol host...

People's Choice Award winners from last year.
