I Think I'm About To Be Evicted From My Apartment

How difficult is it to get another apartment with an eviction on my record? Am I permanently screwed?

by Anonymousreply 57March 20, 2023 2:22 PM

Why not just leave before the official eviction?

by Anonymousreply 1March 16, 2023 3:18 PM

Why are you being evicted? I'd try to avoid it if possible. Either move out before or settle whatever they are evicting you for

by Anonymousreply 2March 16, 2023 3:20 PM

Hope you got a tent.

by Anonymousreply 3March 16, 2023 3:20 PM

Because the lease is in my name R1 and I think its going to be on my record regardless. But I don't know for sure.

by Anonymousreply 4March 16, 2023 3:21 PM

R2 Long story short I lost my job and fallen behind a couple months rent. I think my landlord is getting tired of my bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 5March 16, 2023 3:22 PM

No, it doesn't mean you're screwed. There are people out there that are reasonable and if you explain the circumstances there will be people who will extend grace to you.

by Anonymousreply 6March 16, 2023 3:24 PM

Sorry to hear you lost your job. If possible, you should leave when they ask you to and don't fight it. Hopefully they ask for you to leave before involving the courts. I used to rent a house and asked the person to leave, who wasn't paying rent, and he wouldn't so I had no choice but to evict him. Which sucked for me since it costs money. And go talk to your landlord about it. Work out a payment arrangement? Just don't sit there waiting for the courts to come to your door.

Though regardless, there are people who will rent to you in the future

by Anonymousreply 7March 16, 2023 3:27 PM

R3 lol. I'm looking to stay with friends temporarily but they wont permanently house me. I'm looking into hotels. Also I had a lot of wild parties this past year and there may be some damage to the apartment. I know I've done some dumb shit. R6 I'm optimistic, but I hope she doesn't evict me. My lease expires at the end of the month so it would be tragic to be evicted my very last month. R7 thanks for the advice. My landlord has been patient but she wants her money and I don’t blame her.

by Anonymousreply 8March 16, 2023 3:30 PM

How cute are you OP? Hung? Sexually adventurous? Willing to relocate?

by Anonymousreply 9March 16, 2023 3:30 PM

R9 I got a six pack and a nine inch dick. What will that get me?

by Anonymousreply 10March 16, 2023 3:34 PM

We’ve got an open guest room with a queen bed, but the bathroom is shared. You’ll have to take our word there aren’t any cameras lying about.

Oh! And you’d be neighbors with Greg 😳

by Anonymousreply 11March 16, 2023 3:37 PM

The DL not believing you without pics.

by Anonymousreply 12March 16, 2023 3:37 PM

OP/R18- Damage to the apartment will make a landlord much less forgiving. If your friends are in a position to loan you the money, or split it with you, invest $120 in renting a carpet cleaner and buying a simple white or neutral wall paint, roller and spackle. It should be approximately $50 for the carpet cleaner and cleaning solution, and $70 for a couple gallons of paint, and basic supplies. If you return it to her in a condition that a suitable to rent again immediately, which will save her time and money, she may forgive the debt.

by Anonymousreply 13March 16, 2023 3:38 PM

*in a condition that is suitable to rent

by Anonymousreply 14March 16, 2023 3:39 PM

Thank you R13 and R14. I made a lot of dumb decisions this past year like allowing some couch surfing friends crash at my place at times. Of course they made a mess and then disappeared to leave me to clean. I can only be mad at myself. I've been cleaning relentlessly all week. I have until the end of the month to get the apartment together but she wants to do a walk-through BEFORE I leave. Which is making me nervous. If she decides to evict me before I can clean up.

by Anonymousreply 15March 16, 2023 3:45 PM

OP, there's a difference between being evicted and not having your lease renewed.

Before you are evicted, you will get a notice to quit. If you leave when asked to leave, it won't be an official eviction.

by Anonymousreply 16March 16, 2023 3:49 PM

Tbh if your lease is up I think she'd just tell you she's not renewing it instead of wasting money to get rid of you. And cleaning everything up is good.

by Anonymousreply 17March 16, 2023 3:52 PM

Even if you're not done when she does the walk-through make it clear you're good for the repairs and will work further after the apartment is emptied if needed. And then DO THAT. Don't let the eviction get documented if there's any chance to avoid it. And be a stand up guy in the situation you're facing. Learn from this.

by Anonymousreply 18March 16, 2023 3:53 PM

Thank you R16. I'm trying not to leave on bad terms. I can get the apartment clean and hopefully she'll let me work out a payment plan before any more decisions are made. R17 I agree with you. Its going to cost them a lot more to evict then to just let the lease run out. I've already signed a move out notice that can't be revoked. I'm definitely leaving on April.

by Anonymousreply 19March 16, 2023 3:55 PM

^ IN April I meant.

by Anonymousreply 20March 16, 2023 3:56 PM

Impossible unless the landlord is retarded or you find an ignorant sub letter you’ll also fuck over.

If you’re in any major city, OP, it takes WORK to be evicted. MONTHS of time as the notifications and litigation plays out. So if you’re in one of those areas no one will hear a millisecond of whatever story you concoct.

You should have brokered a deal to voluntarily vacate the apartment to avoid court. But that would be too much for you: any shred of responsibility and self-awareness, that is.

by Anonymousreply 21March 16, 2023 3:58 PM

R9 here. My earlier post was in the typical DL spirit, but reading OP @ R15 makes me want to take a time out.

I think you’re seeing how hard it is to do the right thing, but also the benefit of doing it too. I hope you’re able to get the place cleaned up, be honest with your landlady, and engender the slightest bit of grace from her. Hopefully she’ll work with you and you can stay, but if not you can at least know you did your best.

I ended up skipping out on my first solo apartment after 1.5 years. I had gotten behind on rent and left before what I thought would inevitably happen. It definitely fit the pattern of my life at the time, and, to this day, one against which I measure my actions/behavior.

by Anonymousreply 22March 16, 2023 4:01 PM

Ouch R21 I am taking responsibility. I admit I made a lot of dumb choices and I'm scrambling to make things right. I admit I fucked up but I think I still have a chance if I can make an arrangement.

by Anonymousreply 23March 16, 2023 4:03 PM

The powerful do as the want the weak suffer as the must. Bend over and take your blows.

by Anonymousreply 24March 16, 2023 4:06 PM

that's such a datalounge ( and FUNNY 😄) thing to say

by Anonymousreply 25March 16, 2023 4:07 PM

R25 too cute to be on the streets that's for sure.😋

by Anonymousreply 26March 16, 2023 4:14 PM

If you have get an eviction on your record no decent apartment is going to rent to you.

Your options become looking for sketchy, possibly illegal housing that doesn't run many checks, or trying to rent a room with someone when the place is in their name.

by Anonymousreply 27March 16, 2023 4:16 PM

Connect with a tenant organization. They will have informed frame of reference to advise you on the implications from an actual eviction (which I agree, takes so much time and effort that it probably won't happen in this instance.)

Your landlord is in the business of making money. So if you clean the place up that saves her money. If you come to some agreement to make good on part or all of the back rent, that gives her money. If you move out, she can start renting to someone who will actually pay. All these are good things, from her perspective. She's never going to like you or give you a glowing reference but at least you can mitigate the damage by trying to clean up your various messes.

Final piece of advice: don't shit where you eat.

by Anonymousreply 28March 16, 2023 4:26 PM

About cleaning: I once had a landlord who charged me $25 for not dusting UNDER THE REFRIGERATOR. I had made the rest of the place scrupulously clean. It was a dick move through and through. It wasn’t even personal because I’d never had any negative encounters with them. They did it because they could.

I told my next landlord about it in a casual conversation. You can see what’s coming, right? He did it, too.

They will do ANYTHING to keep your money. You should clean because, presumably, it was clean when you moved in but keep all your expectations rock bottom low.

by Anonymousreply 29March 16, 2023 4:28 PM

Start a GoFundMe, OP. I'll donate.

by Anonymousreply 30March 16, 2023 4:30 PM

I'd donate....IF you posted pics and were as hot as you claimed.

by Anonymousreply 31March 16, 2023 4:34 PM

OP, if your lease is expiring in a few weeks, I doubt she will take the time and expense to evict you. If anything, she must've given you legal notice letting you know she doesn't wish to renew the lease with you on April 1.

If you are worried about future damages to your name when you want to rent again, don't worry - the pandemic has screwed up everyone the past few years and many have lost jobs and fallen months behind on their rent. Most courts have been lenient with these apartment dwellers - so just blame the pandemic.

by Anonymousreply 32March 16, 2023 4:36 PM

Thanks R22,R28. Thank you everyone.

by Anonymousreply 33March 16, 2023 6:57 PM

OP, assuming your name is Dahmer, eviction is the least of your issues and the smell IS terrible.

by Anonymousreply 34March 16, 2023 6:59 PM

Huh R34? I don’t get it.

by Anonymousreply 35March 16, 2023 7:00 PM

Every morning, every evening

Ain't we got fun?

Not much money oh but honey

Ain' we got fun?

The rent's unpaid, dear

We haven't a bus

But smiles were made, dear

For people like us

Landlord's mad and getting madder

Ain't we got fun?

Times are bad and getting badder

Still we have fun

There's nothing surer

The rich get rich

And the poor get laid off

In the meantime

In between time

Ain't we got fun?

by Anonymousreply 36March 16, 2023 8:59 PM

Op, can we have your stuff?

by Anonymousreply 37March 16, 2023 9:34 PM

op = lsa obese loser

by Anonymousreply 38March 17, 2023 4:43 AM

It’s 2023 so that’s a YOU problem.

by Anonymousreply 39March 17, 2023 4:45 AM

OP is lined out. More sadness.

by Anonymousreply 40March 17, 2023 4:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 41March 17, 2023 4:48 AM

Hope you are, OP! You deserve it, troll!

by Anonymousreply 42March 17, 2023 3:59 PM

You are DENIED, girlfriend!

by Anonymousreply 43March 17, 2023 4:17 PM

Why would you say that, r42? I ignoredared OP and found nothing offensive, or even political. Does a lust for Jimmy Garoppolo suddenly offend?

by Anonymousreply 44March 17, 2023 4:21 PM

r44, because the OP has been on a rampage trolling other threads and freaking the fuck out and wishing cancer and heart attacks on others for no viable reason other than to troll! Fuck her and grease fire to her!

by Anonymousreply 45March 17, 2023 4:26 PM

r44, there's a reason why OP is lined out.

by Anonymousreply 46March 17, 2023 4:26 PM

R46 No reason actually. Just a pyscho stalker who broke the rules by pressing the F&F button until her finger fell off.

by Anonymousreply 47March 20, 2023 1:30 PM

You're a hypocrite R45. So death in a greasefire is okay but wishing heart attacks is where the line is drawn lol. Fucking psycho stalker who can't except her very wrong opinion. And you still didn't get rid of me bitch.

by Anonymousreply 48March 20, 2023 1:32 PM

R42, R43 nope I'm still housed you hateful Bitch. I worked it all out with my landlord. No eviction. No homelessness. Sorry to disappoint you cunt but my life is actually looking better and better. I found a new place to live.

by Anonymousreply 49March 20, 2023 1:35 PM

I'd rather commit suicide than not pay my rent.

by Anonymousreply 50March 20, 2023 1:47 PM

pay your rent

by Anonymousreply 51March 20, 2023 1:51 PM

R50 you're landlord must love you.

by Anonymousreply 52March 20, 2023 1:52 PM

R51 I did. Its all worked out now. I'm still moving on the 31st.

by Anonymousreply 53March 20, 2023 1:53 PM

[quote] I got a six pack and a nine inch dick. What will that get me?

It may get you a mention in the Guinness Book Of World Records for being one of the biggest liars on the planet. You might be able to parlay that into some sort of money making scheme.

by Anonymousreply 54March 20, 2023 1:56 PM

Is a temporary/limited lease a common thing in the US?

by Anonymousreply 55March 20, 2023 2:00 PM

get some risque crotchy pix of urself

& get on seeking arrangement stat op

ur sugar daddy is waitin

by Anonymousreply 56March 20, 2023 2:02 PM

That's hilarious R54. You really DON'T know what I look like. You type fat and gluttonous though. Men are disgusted by you like I suspect everyone else is.
