Another gay conservative

Guys like David Bull confuse me. Why would an openly gay man identify with or associate with a politics that probably attracts others who would loathe his existence?

BTW....I love that shirt; that color is perfect for me.

Yes it's a nice colour isn't it.

r4

by Anonymousreply 5March 15, 2023 4:48 PM

David Bull = Name checks out

by Anonymousreply 6March 15, 2023 4:50 PM

You mean he's masculine R6?

by Anonymousreply 7March 15, 2023 4:54 PM

R4, he looks pretty decent given he was knocking 50 at the time.

by Anonymousreply 8March 15, 2023 4:58 PM

Did he have a stroke? One eye won't open as fully as the other.

by Anonymousreply 9March 15, 2023 4:59 PM

A former friend of mine voted for the Republicans over and over, despite being gay (and this was back around 1992 and Pat Robertson's "culture war" speech and all that). I finally asked him, "Why do you vote for them, you know they hate gays?" His answer was simply, "I'm just in it for the money. I don't care about all that other stuff."

by Anonymousreply 10March 15, 2023 5:00 PM

Everything about this is just awesomely amazing!

by Anonymousreply 11March 15, 2023 5:18 PM

Sometimes some guys have issues they care more about than gay issues.

by Anonymousreply 12March 15, 2023 5:22 PM

The current head of the Log Cabins is an old social acquaintance of mine. He used to be sexy and fuckable and funny, but now he's just become sad.

His dad was/is a vocal Republican and a big boss of a firefighters' organization or some shit. And Charlie Boy always wanted to please his daddy by showing the man that his only son was indeed more than just a dirty little banana-crammer.

It doesn't work. Voting the way your parents do won't buy their love. And it'll destroy your own self-respect.

by Anonymousreply 13March 15, 2023 5:37 PM

If Ron DeSantis becomes President, the LGBTQ+ community will be the first to go in the ovens. Or be deported. Or sent to re-education camps. Better wake up LCRs.

by Anonymousreply 14March 15, 2023 5:40 PM

Just a guess, but I'd say he's about getting rich at any cost.

by Anonymousreply 15March 15, 2023 5:42 PM

^I get it!

by Anonymousreply 16March 15, 2023 5:59 PM

R14 You don't think you may be overstating the case a touch?

by Anonymousreply 17March 15, 2023 6:04 PM

A friend considers himself a Conservative when it comes to to money, though not on social issues. He says Republicans have better control of money. Democrats only know how to tax and spend And recently have been printing non-existent paper money.

by Anonymousreply 18March 15, 2023 6:13 PM

No, R17 - feeling anything less than full-blown hysteria is indicative that you're a literal NAZI.

by Anonymousreply 19March 15, 2023 6:14 PM

Republicans at the national level have shown again and again and again that they know fuck all about "control of money." They barely even bother to try anymore. It's just massive tax cuts for the rich whenever they are in office. Your friend should stop telling you nonsense r18 and you should stop taking his nonsense seriously, assuming you do.

by Anonymousreply 20March 15, 2023 6:27 PM

Gay conservatives brought you gay marriage. I would think the gay liberal sheep would be kissing their feet.

by Anonymousreply 21March 15, 2023 6:31 PM

R18 ask him if the Reagan, Bush or Trump tax cuts ever paid for themselves. He sounds like a total casual and not a serious person.

by Anonymousreply 22March 15, 2023 6:44 PM

Self-loathing as a result of sexual trauma?

by Anonymousreply 23March 15, 2023 6:49 PM

What is a "total casual"? Is that anything like a total top?

by Anonymousreply 24March 15, 2023 6:52 PM

[quote] Gay conservatives brought you gay marriage.

Not true, but if so--LGBTQ+ people should just line up with Republicans because SOME LCRs helped get gay marriage passed. Do you know who is sitting on the Supreme Court? They're going to go after gay marriage next, they already got rid of abortion rights. But I think you already knew that.

by Anonymousreply 25March 15, 2023 6:57 PM

If you actually believe that R21, you're over-the-top delusional.

by Anonymousreply 26March 15, 2023 7:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 30March 15, 2023 10:12 PM

Sadly, your friend is an idiot.

R30 suffers from convenient amnesia. Or maybe it's just Alzheimer's.

This, from the New York Times (that infamous bastion of Right Wing extremism): Joseph R. Biden Jr. voted for the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996, blocking federal recognition of same-sex marriages. Two years earlier, he voted to cut off federal funds to schools that teach the acceptance of homosexuality. In 1973, Mr. Biden, in an off-handed response to a question, wondered if homosexuals in the military or government were potential security risks.

by Anonymousreply 32March 15, 2023 10:20 PM

^ And a large share of that debt happened under Trump with those ridiculous tax cuts. I knew it was BS from the get go, but I had FINANCIAL ADVISORS telling me that it was a giveaway that did nothing for economic growth (and these people are in the financial industry, hardly the socialists that the GOP loves to scream about).

And as an aside--most Americans do not know the difference between the debt an deficit, but they could probably name every member of the Kardashian family.

by Anonymousreply 33March 15, 2023 10:20 PM

R32: Nice try with stuff from 50 years ago? Not the same as Ron DeSantis now.

by Anonymousreply 34March 15, 2023 10:22 PM

Would you call that color "fuchsia" or "orchid"?

by Anonymousreply 35March 15, 2023 10:22 PM

Why is R32 working SO hard to try and bamboozle people here that Democrats are terrible for having changing positions on gay marriage?

What Republicans ever supported it? Certainly not Trump, Mitt Romney, John McCain, or George Bush (their last 4 presidential contenders).

I'd like a list of those Republicans R32. We'll be waiting--how about some Senators, House members (and specifically when they came out in support of same sex marriage).

by Anonymousreply 50March 16, 2023 1:55 AM

While Biden has since changed his beliefs around 2012, R30, here's a list of things he used to believe:

1973 Remarked how gay men and lesbians were security risks and supported a measure restricting how homosexuality was presented to schoolchildren.

1993 Voted for Defense of Marriage Act.

2006 Declared marriage is “between a man and a woman.”

by Anonymousreply 51March 16, 2023 1:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 52March 16, 2023 2:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 54March 16, 2023 2:05 AM

Do we actually have morons on here trying to credit conservatives with anything related to gay rights? Is that how you absolve them of what they're currently doing? Are you that desperate to be hateful and greedy that you rationalize the right-wing's behavior?

I only wish every single one of you gay conservative shits were made to live exclusively in a Republican world. Go back into the fucking closet where you belong.

by Anonymousreply 55March 16, 2023 2:06 AM

FOX has gay conservatives on all the time. Guy Benson, Tammy Bruce, Dave Rubin, Andrew Napolitano, Rick Grenell, etc. Conservatives care about merit/qualifications over anything. With liberals, it's all about checking boxes, which is why you get people totally unqualified for the positions they're appointed to : Harris, Mayor Pete, that idiot they're trying to make head of the FAA, and of course, Karine "The Binder" Jean-Pierre.

by Anonymousreply 56March 16, 2023 2:07 AM

Well said, R56.

by Anonymousreply 57March 16, 2023 2:11 AM

R56 You must be living in the Bizarro World. Republicans have made a mockery of filling key positions with persons woefully unqualified, their past experiences and agendas are antithesis of what the role is intended. An obvious example is Louis DeJoy appointment as Post Office General, who went in with the express purpose of undercutting its funding and operations .I can literally list at least twenty more just during the Trump Administration period.

by Anonymousreply 58March 16, 2023 2:21 AM

r56, have you had that cognitive decline checked out? How about Michael Flynn, Reince Priebus, Tom Price, Scott Pruitt, Sean Spicer, Rick Perry, Ben Carson, Betsy deVos, and the list goes on and on ?

by Anonymousreply 59March 16, 2023 2:37 AM

[quote]Conservatives care about merit/qualifications over anything.

LMAO. Do I actually have to list the names of conservatives with these alleged qualifications or do you feel at all stupid to think this?

How did you write this with a straight face? What utter bullshit. Let me guess: You also believe SVB failed due to "woke."

You guys really are not that bright.

by Anonymousreply 60March 16, 2023 2:46 AM

r56 mentions Harris. The conservatives chose a woman who needed six years and five mediocre colleges to get a BA in communications. They had orange dogshit who couldn't tell you who wrote the constitution or anything else about the history of the United States...and they want him again. They have a woman who failed her GED several times. They have another woman who thinks it's the "Gazpacho Police" on the Homeland Security Committee and Oversight.

He mentions Buttigieg. Most conservatives who fill these positions are the antithesis of what the position is supposed to stand for. They're there to destroy the office. What was DeJoy's qualifications to head up USPS? The Trump admin was filled with unqualified idiots.

FOX brings on these people because they're self-loathing. They're basically the equivalent of the "black friend." FOX's audience doesn't want you to get married. The FOX "elites" don't give a shit if you're gay, but they'll sure as shit promote the policies that want your rights taken away. Oh, how lovey they allow some 'mo to come on to shit on Biden right after promoting DeSantis whose legislation actually affects your self-loathing ass.

by Anonymousreply 61March 16, 2023 2:57 AM

[quote]Conservatives care about merit/qualifications over anything.

Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder - gay conservatives are, first and foremost, deeply mentally ill.

by Anonymousreply 62March 16, 2023 3:00 AM

[quote]R48/PlatonicCaveman: Yes, the originator of the gay marriage movement was Andrew Sullivan, a gay conservative Republican. And you fools took the bait.

No, Andrew Sullivan was not the originator of the gay marriage movement. He was a gay conservative attempting to make the at-the-time-contrarian case to mainstream conservatives that supporting gay marriage was not inconsistent with conservatism. Gay marriage was already one of the goals among the modern gay movement for decades prior to Sullivan's editorial.

Marriage as a concept is neither innately liberal or conservative. Nor is it for everybody (for instance, neither you nor I). But you need to stop lobbying to take away the choices of others.

by Anonymousreply 63March 16, 2023 3:04 AM

Trump was the very definition of qualified!

Motherfucker couldn't even tell you how many presidents there were, but sure, "qualified"

R56, have you actually looked at the educations of the people you've mentioned?Even that loon stealing luggage went to MIT.

by Anonymousreply 67March 16, 2023 3:11 AM

Hey, R56, you forgot to mention gay conservative-adjacent Glenn Greenwald, the leftwing rightwinger! He's on Fox News all the time!

by Anonymousreply 68March 16, 2023 3:11 AM

You know gay conservatives are dumb when they think FOX bringing on gays, means the agenda they push is gay-friendly.

We have Jews like Stephen Miller aligned with Neo-Nazis because he himself thinks like one. How dumb are you that you think simply tolerating a gay person on the air means they're there to actually defend the right to BE gay? Simply being present doesn't mean your lifestyle is tolerated by the flying monkeys who watch and vote to take away your rights. They want you to be a Lindsay Graham-gay. have no fucking life of your own and vote against gay people.

by Anonymousreply 69March 16, 2023 3:16 AM

R68 Glenn Greenwald decided to hate America when he realized he couldn't keep his Brazilian squeeze in America forever on a marriage visa.

So he moved to that lawless shithole country, adopted a bunch of underage boys, and started his little one-man crusade to bring down the country that humiliated him that one time.

by Anonymousreply 72March 16, 2023 4:34 AM

r63 Please give me a book which advocated for gay marriage more succinctly than Andrew Sullivan's "Here Comes The Groom" before 1989?

And he did this as a conservative, in opposition to gay leftists, who were wise enough at that time to look skeptically at this attempt to assimilate and conform to the heterosexist majority.

And Sullivan's desire to squelch gay male "promiscuity" was rooted in the fact he blamed us for AIDS. A specious claim I might add since globally more people have acquired HIV from heterosexual intercourse than any other cause.

And Sullivan is a devout Catholic who wanted gay males to conform to Christian beliefs on monogamy.

In terms of a gay subculture where pseudo-religious marriage was never even on the agenda before 1989, yes, monogamy and sexual exclusivity are attempts at conservative reform.

From Wikipedia:

[quote] Sullivan ... as a proponent of "legitimation", seeing the objective of the gay rights movement as being "mainstreaming gay and lesbian people" rather than "radical social change".[51] Sullivan wrote the first major article in the United States advocating for gay people to be given the right to marry,[18] published in The New Republic in 1989.[52] According to one columnist for Intelligent Life, many on "the gay left," aiming to alter social codes of sexuality for everyone, were chagrined at Sullivan's endorsement of the "assimilation" of gay people into "straight culture."[18]

Why are progressives such as yourself signing on to this farce?

I want to change society on our terms, not theirs.

by Anonymousreply 73March 16, 2023 6:00 AM

[quote]Why would an openly gay man identify with or associate with a politics that probably attracts others who would loathe his existence?

OP, if you are gay, but you are pro-life, pro-gun rights, want lower taxes, want less government spending, want lower immigration levels, want less DEI oversight, want less “racial equity” and to continue race neutral policies, or if you support a significant number of those issues, what are you supposed to call yourself?

by Anonymousreply 82March 16, 2023 2:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 83March 16, 2023 2:52 PM

R83 You will shut up and obey, homosexual.

by Anonymousreply 84March 16, 2023 2:57 PM

I would be curious for any actual Fox viewers here or the defenders of Fox gays: Are the Fox gays ever allowed to point out homophobia in the Republican Party or the conservative movement? Are they allowed to condemn that specifically? Are they allowed to point out that people like Ron DeSantis seem to have a touch of homophobia? I'm sure they're allowed to point out homophobia in foreign countries and if anyone in the Biden Administration ever says anything remotely homophobic in any way. But is anybody allowed to say that, gee, Mike Pence is a homophobe? Or the governor of Tennessee? Or anybody else?

The Republican Party is still officially against gay marriage, in their platform, and most voted against the Respect for Marriage Act. Did any Fox gay come on to talk about how much that sucks, maybe one of the married ones?

I think I know, but I could well be wrong. Maybe there's an actual discussion allowed there, and not just tame gays brought in to reassure everybody that their homophobia is just peachy keen.

by Anonymousreply 85March 16, 2023 3:12 PM

Anything Andrew Sullivan (aka Milky Loads) says, no matter how reasonable, will always be tainted by his cheerleading for the Iraq War. I just automatically assume anything that comes out of his mouth since then is BS.

Jesus, you guys really are genuinely stupid and can't debate for shit. What does my pointing out the obvious about who actually represents the Klan-mentality in 2023 (Hint: Not current-day Democrats), have to do with your side attempting to rewrite US history (including the teaching of slavery) when taught to current-day students? We talk about slavery because idiots like you want to remain stupid about the history of this country. You want kids to stay dumb and just be taught "Duh, Columbus discovered America." You're the same morons who go off about woke and kids not learning when that's precisely what WE want - for them to *actually* learn real history. We don't want them learning some fucking sanitized, unicorns and rainbows version of history.

How does mentioning what Joe Biden once said (knowing full-well he was the one who got Obama going on gay marriage), justify current day-moronic gays stupidly defending and enabling the current-day Republican party who are doing everything to shove your self-loathing ass back into the closet or worse?

You are lucky you aren't made to live your disgusting vote for the Republican party. That is my only wish for every one of you people who votes GOP. You should be forced to live exclusively under conservative laws and never again benefit from what the Democrats have had to fight for specifically because Republicans exist.

Thanks, R91, that'll be our image of DL rightwingers going forward. Complaints about "wokeness" = protein shake made of rancid mayo.

Republicans want most tax dollars to go into the black hole of the military budget- which funnels secretly into their pockets ($1,000 hammers, etc.).

by Anonymousreply 101March 17, 2023 12:12 PM

He's a British conservative according to the article OP linked, not an American one. British conservatives are mostly far less luridly anti LGBT than Americas mad Republicans, so a gay conservative outside the US is a lot less jarring and crazy

by Anonymousreply 102March 17, 2023 6:15 PM

r99 It means you want to be like straight people and mimic their relationships. Weak.

Now if you can find some logic in that ditzy queen's head of yours, explain how same-sex marriage is not a gay conservative scam.

Hahaha.

by Anonymousreply 103March 18, 2023 6:07 AM

Republican queens always use finances as an excuse.

And most of them actually suffer as a result of the Republican financial policies they vote for since so few of them are actually that rich.

Yes, Virginia, deplorables are cocksuckers!

Oh good. So you are joking. I was afraid all this was you being serious. I couldn't believe anyone could possibly be that obtuse.

by Anonymousreply 106March 18, 2023 4:59 PM

Even if you don't care about "gay marriage," how the fuck do you justify supporting conservatives when it was Obama who was the one who finally gave gay federal worker spouses the same benefits their hetero counterparts were getting?

Do you really (and stupidly) think it's just about having a wedding and the basic concept of marriage?

by Anonymousreply 107March 18, 2023 5:22 PM

Even if you're not a homosexual, that party has a long, long list of crazy shit that no thinking person could accept as rational.

Book bans, warmongering, labor rights violations, bans on birth control - Endless ways of telling ordinary people how to live, and forcing the majority into some sick Christian dystopia all to please their feared god.

by Anonymousreply 108March 18, 2023 5:25 PM

r106 Airheaded queen, stop replying to me.

This thread is about gay conservatism and that's what I'm trying to discuss. Gay marriage is the crowning glory of their movement.

You obviously don't know enough about any topic other than food and clothes, (I'm being generous), so don't waste my time.

by Anonymousreply 109March 18, 2023 6:56 PM

r106 Oh, but do point out all the socks you claim I have on this thread, since I have none.

r107 I don't support gay conservatives. The term is an oxymoron.

Marriage makes perfect sense for heterosexuals and the government has an interest in supporting it.

Over 90% of married heterosexual couples have children. So 1) The father's financial responsibility for his children must be established. And 2) Inheritance rights must be guaranteed for heirs.

Only a small minority of gay couples are raising children together. What, less than 5%? The government has no compelling interest to ensure that we are monogamous. It's merely some sort of extension of enforced monogamy based on Biblical concepts. And the part which is really atrocious, marriage requires couples remain monogamous or else - or else half their assets can be seized by the their spouse. How the hell is this any responsibility of the government to require that I can't sleep with anyone besides my partner? And that I be financially penalized if I do?

For 2000 years in our culture marriage has been heterosexual. I see no reason why the government should be establishing this pseudo-religious monstrosity in my community.

If I want to share assets with my partner, I can already do that through contract. Straight man, government, butt out of my gay life.

by Anonymousreply 111March 18, 2023 8:32 PM

I missed the bit where you're being forced to get married.

by Anonymousreply 112March 18, 2023 8:41 PM

[r112] And I missed the part where you couldn't be monogamous with your same-sex partner before the government got involved.

these right wing gays love money and power above the well being of other homosexuals. Look at Thiel, look at the PIC on R3, Look at Shock, etc.

Whenever you hear about an LGBT Republican you always know their gender and skin color. And they look like the same closeted gay politicians trying to push anti-gay laws and policies in this country.

by Anonymousreply 119March 18, 2023 11:29 PM

Hey, R119, you don't always know their gender! Some of us cane-faced, cane-wielding ladies are sick of legal abortion, critical race theory in every kindergarten, and superbillionaires having to give up their hard-earned nickels so slackers can go to the doctor!

I love to challenge republicans who say "because of money." I point out that during Clinton and Obama years, the stock market hit record highs and that every republican president since Reagan has crashed the economy harder - to the point Bush Jr nearly bankrupted the whole fucking country. Trump fucked us so hard with his Trade wars and shitty Covid response that Biden is still digging us out.

by Anonymousreply 122March 19, 2023 12:58 AM

R122, when they say "because of money" they mean because Republicans rig things so the rich get richer. Even if your Republicans aren't rich, they might pathetically identify with the rich out of wishful thinking.

by Anonymousreply 123March 19, 2023 1:02 AM

[quote] Doesn't Tucker Carlson have a very senior production staff member who's gay?

Yep. He writes the show. Gay men have always leaned conservative due to money and not having children. They’ve hated paying for breeders and their kids when they’ve never gotten any of the tax benefits. Their partners also had to pay a huge amount of tax because they couldn’t marry. A big reason why gay marriage and property rights for gays even happened was due to taxes and inheritance. Marriage benefits are no laughing matter. Without those, gays wanted their taxes kept low.

by Anonymousreply 124March 19, 2023 1:09 AM

Marriage confers 1000* rights automatically that, unless one is very patient and willing to spend a lot of lawyer money (billable hours) a person can't duplicate legally. I'm not married and never had any desire to be, (although I told a gay friend from Colombia that I'd marry him if he ever decided to move to the US and needed a green card). So this isn't personal for me. But don't come on this forum and pretend that gay marriage isn't an important issue for long time partners. That's an insult to people who have gone through the process to obtain these 1000 rights.

*Married couples have 1,138 federal rights, protections and responsibilities (copied from a website)

[quote]R109: This thread is about gay conservatism and that's what I'm trying to discuss. Gay marriage is the crowning glory of their movement.

Gay conservatives do not own marriage; neither does Andrew Sullivan, nor does the Catholic Church, despite their claims (and yours) to the contrary. Nor do any of them get to dictate on what terms it is conducted. Humans have been commemorating forms of partnership, including same-sex, since before recorded history. Again, because it evidently bears repeating: marriage may not be to your own personal taste, but you've no business trying to suppress the choices of others.

You've been trolling on this topic for as long as I've known you - what, fifteen, eighteen years? And it's ironic that I find myself forced to answer you in the same way I did the great troll Mutha/Muthaphooka on every topic he broached: Stop trying to eliminate the choices of others.

by Anonymousreply 131March 19, 2023 10:25 AM

As one of the other posters said, being a gay conservative in the UK is not the same as the US.

Gay rights are now a settled issue so the battle lines are over immigration, the economy, the relationship with Europe, public services etc where who you fuck has no bearing on your views.

It has to be said that some of the gay Tory MPs are absolute batshit weirdos. Michael Fabricant, Crispin Blunt, Daniel Kawczynski, Scott Benton and Rob Roberts are not the sort of people you want to be trapped in a lift with.

But then there are left wing nut jobs as well, like Lloyd Russell Moyle.

One of Melania's staff during the WH tenure was a flaming homo from New York. Bit of a whore too. He swore Trump was going to change the world, and Trump did, just not for the better. He didn't give a flip about gay issues, he was in it for the money, "prestige", and he probably had a suit fetish.

r131 Trolling? Yes, you do know me. And you know I fervently believe that the government's establishment of marriage in our community is merely a ploy to force us to adhere to pseudo-religious values of monogamy and sexual exclusivity. That is such an innately conservative moralistic concept. It's not about rights. It's about imposition of heteronormative values.

Again, no one is preventing us from creating enduring partnerships. I clearly showed that Andrew Sullivan spearheaded this movement as a hysterical reaction to the HIV pandemic. No one at Stonewall gave a rat's ass about imitating heterosexual marriage.

Why do you think we need some government-induced formula to reorient our lives? We already have choice. Andrew Sullivan and his ilk are trying to create a social expectation which removes choice.

by Anonymousreply 142March 21, 2023 12:59 AM

Omg

by Anonymousreply 143March 21, 2023 5:05 AM

Platonic, since only 10% of gay men have opted for marriage means that choice has NOT been removed. But for those who want it, marriage, (and I guess this has to be stated over and over and over again until it sinks in) confers over 1000 rights and privileges to people in partnership that are automatic and don't have to be obtained by expensive legal documents. Things like rights to social security benefits upon the death of one spouse, rights of hospital visitation, rights to spousal inheritance of an estate in case of lack of a will, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

Most gay men are content to lead promiscuous lives or to have one relationship after another in serial fashion. That has not changed as a result of having gay marriage legalized. I have chosen that path for myself, and I have never felt the least bit of guilt about it, nor do I feel societal pressure to alter that.

I have not found that to be the case. He's just contrarian on certain issues. On gay marriage, I don't necessarily disagree with him (eschewing marriage as a personal choice is fine), save that he wants to do away with it altogether, so that none of us marry.

This is an old argument between he and I, brought over from the now-defunct IMDb message boards. We know where we both stand in it. What's new to me is how he has taken against Ukraine, something he has thus far not explained to me. Maybe he has no explanation for it.

by Anonymousreply 153March 22, 2023 10:56 AM

Conservatives are NOT better with fiscal issues. If some self loathing gay says that they don’t have a grasp of any facts. Republicans have terrible with money and economics. Every income group, even the super rich, do better under Democrats. ONLY the super rich do better under Republicans, and still, they do better under Democrats.

8 consecutive Republican presidents have seen a recession or depression start under their watch. Democratic presidents- 100 years of booming or recovering (from Republicans) economies.

GDP

Jobs

Stock Market

Wages

All do better under Democrats.

Gay Republicans are just contrarians. It is the for APPEARANCES.

by Anonymousreply 154March 22, 2023 11:04 AM

[quote]R153: he sounds like a raging tankie to me.

That tends to say more about the person using the epithet than the one being called it. It's like the people crying that someone/something is 'woke.'

Funny thing, though. "Tankie" is British slang, somewhat outdated, since it described a Stalin supporter. Yet at R137 you averred that you aren't a UK citizen.
