Weren’t the Oscars so much nicer this year?

And I think we all know why.

by Anonymousreply 29March 18, 2023 2:46 PM

No Viola.

by Anonymousreply 1March 15, 2023 7:44 AM

No, not really, OP. It was dull as usual.

by Anonymousreply 2March 15, 2023 7:50 AM

Will Smith's violence?

by Anonymousreply 3March 15, 2023 8:01 AM

Pas de Packer?

by Anonymousreply 4March 15, 2023 12:26 PM

Pros:

Politics kept at a minimum

No ghetto themes

All categories televised

No tables and back to regular seating

Butler lost

Blanchett lost

Funny opening monologue

by Anonymousreply 5March 15, 2023 12:33 PM

Cons:

The Everything sweep

The music numbers

Some mediocre films and presenters nobody cares about or has ever heard of

by Anonymousreply 6March 15, 2023 12:34 PM

The carpet change did it.

by Anonymousreply 7March 15, 2023 12:35 PM

Yes OP

by Anonymousreply 8March 15, 2023 12:36 PM

No Jada

No Will

No Meryl

No Viola

No Clooney

by Anonymousreply 9March 15, 2023 12:37 PM

No Chalamet looking like a fugly rentboy.

by Anonymousreply 10March 15, 2023 12:39 PM

It would be nice if movie people were the presenters.

I'm tired of seeing the same stupid SM faces that are the equivalent of the Gabors.

But at least the Gabors DID make movies.

by Anonymousreply 11March 15, 2023 12:42 PM

Best show in years despite Kimmell who isn't remotely funny.

by Anonymousreply 12March 15, 2023 12:42 PM

Kimmel has to stop with his talking to the audience skit.

by Anonymousreply 13March 15, 2023 12:44 PM

Jamie Lee Curtis's amazing come back.

by Anonymousreply 14March 15, 2023 2:53 PM

It was civil and dull. I like civil and dull.

by Anonymousreply 15March 15, 2023 2:55 PM

R10 Doesn't he though? FUUUUUGGGGLEEEEE

by Anonymousreply 16March 15, 2023 2:56 PM

These producers are idiots. Spielberg and John Williams were both nominated again. Why not do a tribute to the 40th Anniversary of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" and have the cast present? Drew Barrymore had everyone on and it was cool. It would have been a nice surprise. Guess Florence Pugh is more important.

Jimmy Kimmel sucks. Bring back Seth MacFarlane.

by Anonymousreply 18March 18, 2023 11:35 AM

Seth isn't allowed back since he objectified all the women by listing which movies guys can find their bared boobs in.

by Anonymousreply 19March 18, 2023 11:52 AM

r18, Dear God, I rather have Billy Crystal or Whoopi Goldberg back before Seth and his juvenile humor. I would love to see Ricky Gervais host but that’ll never happened.

by Anonymousreply 20March 18, 2023 12:03 PM

Ricky Gervais sucks. Jimmy did a pretty good job.

by Anonymousreply 21March 18, 2023 12:27 PM

Of course the 40th Anniversary of ET celebration would have made the telecast about four hours. They went out of their way so that all of the Oscars were presented, so it went on long enough. Of course, they could have done away with the stupid comedy routines, but that would have given the show no room to breathe.

by Anonymousreply 22March 18, 2023 12:59 PM

What celebration?

Just have the ET cast members present make-up/special effects and have John Williams present best score category.

by Anonymousreply 23March 18, 2023 1:03 PM

Ricky Gervais is far and away the American public's favorite award show host.

by Anonymousreply 24March 18, 2023 1:03 PM

No, R24, that would be Tina and Amy.

by Anonymousreply 25March 18, 2023 1:11 PM

Williams was nominated for The Fabelmans. I don't think they'd want him to present the category.

by Anonymousreply 26March 18, 2023 1:32 PM

R25 Not even close.

by Anonymousreply 27March 18, 2023 1:36 PM

I liked it, especially there were no political statements 👍

by Anonymousreply 28March 18, 2023 2:29 PM

The best part was that there were so many new winners, so they expressed their appreciation, instead of those who have multiple wins and look at this as an opportunity to make a political statement. That's a big part of why people don't tune into award shows.
