The time Brendan Fraser played gay...
...in "Professional Man", a 1995 episode of the Showtime noir anthology series Fallen Angels, directed by Steven Soderbergh. Fraser plays an icy hit man caught up in a love triangle involving a sweet bartender who's also coveted by his boss, a powerful gay gangster. The episode is a rare example of a story being gayed, rather than de-gayed, for the screen.
You're welcome.

Didn't he play Gay in Gods and Monsters with Sir Ian McKellen? Or was his character just really nervous.

Whoops, sorry--I grabbed the first link I found, but it's not in English! There used to be several uploads of the episode on YT but it looks like this is the only one now. Oh well, enjoy looking at him anyway.

He wasn't gay in GODS AND MONSTERS, despite Dame Ian's yearnings. But he also played gay in TWILIGHT OF THE GOLDS for Showtime.

R11, yes, I'm in the U.S. but like R12, I only played it in the DL embed, so maybe that's the difference.

He briefly played gay in Bedazzled. It was kind of funny for 2000, but 20+ years later it's pretty bad. He's still hot in it though.
FF to about the 4:50 mark.

That was just the 90s -- and a period piece -- but it was not uncommon for gay themed stories to end with homicide.

"Twilight of the Golds" was wondrously awful.

I saw a college stage production of TOTG & my friend played the mother. It was rather pedestrian.

Saturday I was just a really fat guy.
Sunday, I won an Oscar, and suddenly I'm the fat guy that everybody loves to love.

Thank you, R5! I looked and looked and couldn't come up with another YT link. Weird.

Several years before Soderbergh gayed the story for Showtime, HBO did a straight version on their short-lived suspense anthology series The Edge, with Christian Slater in the role later played by Fraser. The Fallen Angels adaptation is far superior and feels closer to David Goodis' original story even with the changes, but it's fun to compare the two:
