For those that didn't watch The Whale and wonder about the nautical references in his speech. In the movie, he was an online English/writing teacher and seemed to be obsessed with an essay his daughter wrote in 8th grade about Mobi Dick. I have the "Gods And Monsters" DVD signed by Ian McKellen and Lynn Redgrave who I met at The Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS Annual Flea Market. Hollywood really does seem like high school with money. For this crowd, winning an award is like being voted Prom King or Prom Queen. Because they're all "actors," then they have to create a scene. They've all probably been practicing this scene (on stage, winning an award) for years, if not decades.

Two of his sons came with him to the awards. They both looked odd. Neither was dressed appropriated for the occasion.
