Assuage my shame for inhaling a 3lb bag of cuties in under 20-minutes for the second time this week. I swear to god, if I was granted access to an unlimited supply of clementines I would just eat until I popped like a tick.

Not sure how common this is, but I tend to NEED to keep at least some "crap" food in my house so if I have cravings I can "give in" a little. Something as simple as Apple Jacks (if I crave sugar) or salami and cheese, or cheese spread and crackers (if I want something fatty). If I have those things, I can eat a moderate amount and cravings will be gone. If I have NOTHING around, I'd probably leave and go get a full pizza and a BLizzard or some other fast food/junk food that is way worse overall (due to amount or composition) than the "cheat" food I'd eat at home.

There is another thing that I really shouldn't have in the house (and haven't for four years) but it's specific to a local grocery store: freshly baked almond ring, with almond filling - and it's about 12" in diameter. I was living with four other people and one day when everyone was gone, I did an "Elaine" and kept slicing off "slivers" of it during the day, eventually eating half of the thing. I didn't want to eat the whole thing because everyone else was expecting to have some after dinner. But I do recall the sheer amazement on the face of one of my housemates when they realized I'd vacuumed down half of it on my own. Had I been alone, I probably would have finished the whole thing in one day (and paid for that in the bathroom later on).

It’s a bit of work, so do this before you light the bong.
Start with TJ’s smooth salted peanut butter and blend it in a ratio of about 4 or 5 spoonfuls to 1 spoonful of sweetened condensed milk, incorporated with a fork and then refrigerated.
Take a small Pyrex custard cup or another small microwave-safe bowl and fill it about an inch deep with dark chocolate chips. Melt in microwave on high - about 55 seconds in mine - and stir it to make sure all the chips are melted and cooled a bit. Add two tablespoons of heavy cream and stir until combined into a thick, pudding-like consistency. The traditional recipe calls for a 1 to 1 mixture of the two ingredients so I guess one could be anal about it and measure the chips, too.
Refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes, then dip the tines of your fork into the PB mixture and then into the cup of the firmed-up ganache and enjoy. Better than any peanut butter cup. You won’t stop until the chocolate is gone.

R108 Unfortunately, there are many peanut butter-induced choking fatalities every year. Warning labels should absolutely be on every jar of PB that’s sold in America.
The Consumer Federation of America and the Center for Science in the Public Interest have been saying this for decades.
This is an urgent public health concern.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | March 11, 2023 6:37 PM |
No, R97 but years ago a student of mine who now teaches at Oakland University near Detroit sent me two bumpy cakes, one chocolate and one caramel. They were OK but the white filling in the “bumps” on top just sends me into sugar shock. It’s an example of too much of a good thing. Is it their’s alone? I dunno why but I thought it must be one of those “state fair” foods like fried butter - again, meant to be too much of an otherwise good thing if eaten in moderation.
But with the cakes came a catalog and he’s been ordering the caramels ever since. By the tub.

Ice cream and cake are not good for me to keep in the house. Right after I got sober, I wasn't working. I had recently bought a KitchenAid stand mixer, and I used to bake a cake every day. And then I'd eat it. Shortly I learned I could bring it to a meeting.
Frozen is the only way to eat Reese's PBCs.
The frosting to cake ratio of the Bumpy Cakes looks too heavily weighted toward frosting for me.
I never liked peanut butter. And if I eat more than a spoonful, it gives me a headache. Fritos do, too. I must be allergic or sensitive to peanuts and corn.
I only cook two or three ounces of pasta at a time. If I make and sauce an entire pound, I'll eat it within 24 hours.

R84- Correction- this is turning into a low brow
FAT WHORES thread.

R73- I used to make a FAB Banana Cream Pie from a recipe I found in my mother's old Woman's Day Encyclopedia Of Cookery.
I baked the homemade crust first. When it cooled I sliced ripe bananas to cover the crust then made the custard/cream and poured that over the sliced bananas then I made whipped cream with confectioners sugar and vanilla extract on top of that I sprinkled toasted coconut and scored two bananas before slicing them and making a ring of them around the edge of the pie. It was a scrumptious pie with the bananas, custard and fresh whipped cream 😋

I'm the same R80. I've bought the 8 packs at the store thinking "this will last me a week".

Food manufacturers have reduced the sizes of the products and raised prices, they're bigger pigs than I can ever hope to be. But the silver lining is you will save a few calories, pints of ice cream are a relic.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 11, 2023 9:16 PM |
True R136 but the cost of pretty much everything has gone up. Workers wages, electricity, ice cream ingredients, etc.

[quote]pints of ice cream are a relic.
Though Haagen-Dazs has shrunk to 14 oz., Ben & Jerry's is still 16 oz. Other, more expensive premium ice creams (Jeni's, Millie's, Graeter's) hold the line at 16 oz. I'd be really pissed if one of those shrunk their pint.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | March 11, 2023 9:25 PM |
I love how Ben & Jerry’s list the nutrition information for both a serving and the entire pint. Keeping it real and no shame.

[quote]Their caramels are excellent! Recently I saw a bag in the store and I grabbed them. I did not notice they were vegan. I do not like vegan items usually. But I tried them and was pleasantly surprised that they were very good!
r125/r113, the Sanders caramels aren't Vegan. They have milk, cream and butter in them. They are delicous. I get them at Publix. Also available on Amazon.

R140 I should’ve made myself more clear. Sanders does make a vegan version of their caramels. I did not know this. I just assumed the bag I grabbed was regular caramels.

Does anyone actually take those lists into consideration before shoveling the product into their wide-open mouths????? I sure don't!!!!

I do. I’m low carb, so every time I’m tempted to eat something bad, I look at the nutritional label, and I lose my appetite for bad carbs

Rotisserie Chickens from the market. I can eat almost all of it in one sitting. At night, I toss the skin and bones into my crock pot to simmer overnight, and wake to the smell of homemade chicken broth. Then its chicken noodle soup and dessert all day long.

These are the best caramels I've ever had in my life. The only food I have almost eaten myself sick on as an adult. I now limit myself to only Christmas, and I place my order fully being honest with myself that however big it is, it will be gone within a day of arrival.

I’m addicted to Sukhi’s pea and potato samosas with cilantro chutney.
I hate hot spicy foods because my tongue can’t take it. But Sukhi’s isn’t hot. God I love the cilantro chutney and wish I could buy jarfuls of it. Can’t buy it from Amazon because everyone who ordered cilantro chutney in a jar says it came smashed up. I have to go to a Wild By Nature store to buy it.

I just got my Sanders Caramels from amazon. They're probably good, and they're nice and fresh, but they suffer from the usual problem I have when caramel is mixed with chocolate: the two flavors cancel each other out, and all I taste is sweetness.
I wish one of you who love them lived down the street, and could come by and get them.

A bit of kosher salt in the chocolate mix while it’s still warm changes the taste of the cocoa. For the better.
