From a chart perspective, I think Crystal Gayle was more successful than Loretta.

I get that Loretta was basically doing the hard work of digging out and paving the road that every other woman in country music (and maybe lots of women who decided to write and sing their own songs) walked down.

But Crystal just had a ton of country hits as well as Dolly-style crossover to pop.

I like the Tom Waits duet album. A soundtrack to some movie ….

When I performed ‘Talking in Your Sleep’ I was thirteen years old. I wanted our music teacher to be in the bed on stage when I sang the song. He was game to do it as a gay bit, but soon it became a drag compromise, until finally it was just me in my satin pajamas that I bought for the show, singing to a teddy bear, actually a sock monkey. This was in the 1970s..I lost to a garage band that covered Parliament’s hit Flash Light. They brought actual flashlights!

I decided to listen to her most recent album this morning and I absolutely love it as much as when I first listen to it and her voice just sounds great covering all this really awesome old songs.

This thread made me want to share it all the other awesome '80s ladies that I absolutely still love to this day many of whom I've been lucky enough to meet over the years including Sylvia who put out a children's album last year that I enjoyed. Lacy j Dalton considered one of the outlaw country stars so now works to protect wild horses in Virginia City Nevada who I've been was lucky enough to see a couple summers ago. Carlene Carter, juice Newton, Roseanne Cash, Bailey and the boys, Tanya Tucker, Paulette Carson from highway 101, KT oslin is sadly left us as well as the late Holly Dunn his Daddy's hands I always thought was kind of silly but I enjoyed and my cousin played at our uncle's funeral. No one takes the train anymore it's one of my absolute all time favorite songs. And her son maybe I mean yes and the controversy it caused.

There's so many stories I could tell about all of these women and so many more too that I can't even list all of the great wonderful artists from that era.
