The Martin Milner thread

This is the thread for all things Martin Milner co-star of Adm-12.

When I watched that show I wouldn't have mind if he put handcuffs on me.

Longtime fave.

Wish he'd had more of a career after Adam-12.

I need to find Route 66 on streaming so I can watch him on that with another of my faves, Glenn Corbett.

by Anonymousreply 2March 8, 2023 5:00 AM

Very cute and good looking guy.

by Anonymousreply 3March 8, 2023 5:03 AM

He was one of my partners when I was on Password. Amazingly striking looking man, and I got to sit just a couple feet away.

R4 = Joyce Bulifant

by Anonymousreply 5March 8, 2023 5:10 AM

Ooooh,R4 please tell us more!

by Anonymousreply 6March 8, 2023 5:15 AM

Weird, just caught some of him in what I think was his first role, one of the redhead sons in Life With Father on TCM!

Thought he looked familiar there and confirmed on IMDb. Good timing.

by Anonymousreply 7March 8, 2023 5:41 AM

[quote]Ooooh,[R4] please tell us more!

He was on with Greg Morris of " Mission Impossible." The thing I remember the most is that was very friendly, unlike some of the others. We spoke through the commercial breaks; he didn't ignore me, as " Timmy's mother" had done on a previous show. I remember his very attractive eyes and, most importantly, we won.

by Anonymousreply 8March 8, 2023 9:49 PM

Oh, no, R4/R8! Don't tell me my beloved June Lockhart wasn't rude/cold to you!

by Anonymousreply 9March 8, 2023 10:08 PM

Before my time but I sometimes catch the show on MeTv (it's on right now) Him and his partner were so hot in there uniforms

by Anonymousreply 10March 8, 2023 10:35 PM

A while ago, I watched "Adam-12" all the way through. That's my favorite time period nostalgia-wise. I loved looking at all the places and people of LA at that time. Both of the men were hot.

by Anonymousreply 14March 8, 2023 11:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 17March 9, 2023 12:16 AM

I'm convinced that his "Pete Malloy" held a torch for Kent McCord's "Jim Reed" in Adam 12. It was all in the care and concern that he showed for Reed in several episodes. Malloy rarely had a serious girlfriend, and would often rebuff the advances of several women, including those who Jim and his wife attempted to fix him up with.

When I was a lot younger, I went to the San Diego-area house where Martin Milner lived. His son (who was living with Martin Milner) was a friend of a friend. No, I didn't go inside the house, but I do remember looking into the house (through a window or an open door) and seeing dog shit on the floor (not carpeted), inside the house. The son was talking about the housekeeper or something. I just remember not liking that there was dog shit on the floor.

by Anonymousreply 28April 1, 2023 6:59 AM

[quote] "Nothing against Martin Milner, but Sharon Tate was the only person in that movie who came across as a real human being."

And her performance is so endearing because it's similar to her own story. She was the natural choice for the role. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Sharon Tate as a person (outside of tabloids blaming her for her own murder, suggesting it was due to nefarious activities).

And I don't think they would have even if she hadn't been a victim in one of the most brutal crimes of the Twentieth Century. By all accounts, she was as beautiful internally as she was externally. I mourn her when I watch this film.

He can't handle the dialogue in Sweet Smell of Success as well as Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis but he looks good.

by Anonymousreply 34April 1, 2023 8:40 PM

In the musical version of "Sweet Smell", Milner's part was played by former (WHET) DL fave Jack Noseworthy. It starred John Lithgow, Brian D'Arcy James, and a very young Kelli O'Hara.

by Anonymousreply 35April 1, 2023 8:52 PM

He was also in 'The Private Lives of Adam and Eve' and 'Sex Kittens Go to College' opposite Mamie Van Doren from cornball producer Albert Zugsmith.

Marty was major league beautiful back in the day. I've always been partial to hairy chested blonds. They are so scarce. Him paired with the staggeringly gorgeous Kent McCord set my young loins afire in the 60s and 70s. The thought of them pulling off into an alley when they called in for a code 7, and having a go at each other was fodder for many a wet dream back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 66July 21, 2023 4:49 PM

He was a true beauty. I remember crushing on him watching reruns of Route 66 and Adam 12. Years later I saw the film Life With Father (1947) for the first time and I recognized him as one of the teenage sons. He was probably 14-15 in the attached photo, upper left. He had a pretty good career, and by all accounts he was an around good guy.

A friend sent me a video - yes it was that long ago - of Marty and Kent playing on Bowling With the Stars or some such nonsense.

Their opponents were Angie Dickinson and Joseph Campanella.

Marty and Kent were both smoking like chimneys even when the were throwing the balls. They were hilarious in their comments and were both very handsy with Angie which she didn't mind at all.

Malloy rarely had a serious girlfriend, and would often rebuff the advances of several women, including those who Jim and his wife attempted to fix him up with.

I 100% agree and have always felt the same. My personal theory has always been that Malloy was closeted and secretly in love with Reed. (And on some level, perhaps Reed was in love with him, too, particularly given how badly he and his wife got along sometimes.) All of which is just fanfic, I realize, but that's the way I saw it.

by Anonymousreply 79July 23, 2023 1:02 AM

R79, I agree, and there is a fanfic out there that has a similar scenario in which you've described. If I can find it, I'll post the link here.

Route 66 had a TON of homoerotic content. The evil Rod Steiger kidnaps Martin Milner, ties him up, gags him and leers at him. In another, Marty and George Maharis rent an expensive hotel room where there's only a single, queen size bed, George lays down and motions for Marty to join him.

Marty drew me to the show, but it was Kent McCord who grabbed my attention- such glossy hair, white teeth, and an awesome chin.

I’d transfer this lust to Richard Hatch during the BattleStar Galactica years and welcome Kent back for a B G tv movie.

by Anonymousreply 92August 5, 2023 4:15 AM

McCord couldn't act for shit, but who cared? I never listened to him anyway, as I was picturing him naked.

by Anonymousreply 93August 5, 2023 12:28 PM

So did he get the gig because Jack Webb had a hard on for him?

by Anonymousreply 94August 5, 2023 3:56 PM

[quote]Marty drew me to the show, but it was Kent McCord who grabbed my attention

I read an article about the show recently in which someone said the producers must have been crazy. Why on earth did they choose to make Reed played by Kent McCord -- who would no doubt be the main draw for female viewers -- the boring family man and make Malloy played by the older Martin Milner the single one? Given the obvious sex appeal of the younger McCord, you'd think they'd have done the opposite.

By the way, I don't think they meant it as an insult to Milner, who was quite handsome in his own right, just saying that from a producer's viewpoint, it made no sense.

by Anonymousreply 95August 5, 2023 4:22 PM

It was written with Malloy as a bachelor, and since Malloy was the lead character and Milner had better acting chops, they probably decided not to switch the character backstories.

by Anonymousreply 96August 5, 2023 5:02 PM

Milner was really good in the Route 66 episode "The Thin White Line." His character goes nuts after accidentally downing a drink laced with a psychedelic drug, which was meant for someone else.

R31 and R75 make me chuckle, because right this minute on FETV (streaming) is an episode where Malloy didn't realize his driver's license had expired (his Sgt. busted him during the shift lineup/inspection), and Reed gets to drive.
