As someone old enough to remember, all I can say is back in the day of The Paper Chase, we all wanted that mop of curly auburn hair and gold wire-rimmed eyeglasses Timothy Bottoms sported so adorably.

Timothy Bottoms first entered my radar screen in the late '70s in the 1975 film "Operation Daybreak" It was about the assassination of Nazi SS General Reinhard Heydrich. Great little movie!

He was one of the first "I think I might be gay" moments I had when I saw him in Rollercoaster.

Peter Bogdavonich single handledly blackballed T Bottoms after Last Picture Show.

I will always have great fondness for his performance in The Last Picture Show. Anyone who, more than half a century later, can point to one accomplishment of that lasting quality has had some outstanding and rate success.

Tom Cruise, for example, has made untold films and untold money and been the subject of endless attention but what work of his has held up for that long, or half that long? Has he ever played a role where an audience will remember his facial expression? his posture? human scenes that last in the memory?
