Some people on Twitter are confused by the posting of the flags, which include the Trans flag. They think he may be posting in support of his sister in the face of a lot of current anti-Trans legislation across America. But they're not sure exactly what he's trying to say.

Only interview of his I've ever seen was the Graham Norton one a few weeks ago, and it was so obvious that he was gay. I don't understand the point of being glass closeted, especially when Ellie in Last of Us is explicitly a lesbian and Mandalorian is no doubt exclusively watched by liberals... who exactly would be turning off? Homophobes aren't tuning in to begin with.
But this instagram post is not a 'coming out'. How are famous people are still making dumb ambiguous posts like this, haven't we been through this hundreds of times.
Also, the pride flag is an ugly embarrassing mess. All those clashing colors. I don't know how anyone can look at it without genuinely being nauseated.

[Quote]especially when Ellie in Last of Us is explicitly a lesbian and Mandalorian is no doubt exclusively watched by liberals... who exactly would be turning off?
You people are so limited. Do you think these are the last roles Pedro is going to play? He's thinking about the future. Right now he's got an ascendant career as a leading man in action productions - the probability he's going to be offered similar parts in the next few years is therefore high. Straight men don't tune in to watch gay heroes, just like straight women don't tune in to watch gay heartthrobs romance a lady. Old actors like Ian McKellen can be out as gay because they're not a role model for either masculinity or beauty. But for young actors it's different, especially if they're playing main roles in non-LGBT productions.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 6, 2023 1:15 PM |
I have created a pass/fail bar to evaluate celebrity coming outs
I call it the Spacey test
Kevin Spacey issued a perfectly worded coming out statement at the time when he was being revealed in the press to be a prolific sexual predator
“I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fueled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy. As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man.”
So we have a beautiful coming out statement written by Hollywood’s most wretched homosexual. It explains why he didn’t come out earlier, and unambiguously accepts not just identity but fraternity, and with not just all queer people, but specifically as a gay man.
Does this pass the Spacey test?
Is it unambiguous? No
Does it express fraternity? Yes
Does it state identity? No
So it does not pass the Spacey test. If you are a Hollywood actor and you want to come out, it should be your goal to make your coming out better than Kevin Spacey’s. Otherwise, it’s better to just stay in the closet.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 6, 2023 1:26 PM |
R48 Because straight people have no reason to be ambiguous or vague. They're the ideal, the "norm," the privileged set. Besides, everyone assumes everyone is straight until proven otherwise. Straight people who are modest about their sexuality are still viewed as straight and assumed to be straight, even if they aren't announcing it or openly demonstrating it.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 6, 2023 1:34 PM |
I highly doubt in 2023 that straight audiences have a problem watching a gay action star or leading man.

by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 6, 2023 2:32 PM |
R52, there are exceptions, but it’s still the rule, especially for gay men who set off people’s gaydar, or are stereotypical or culturally gay
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 6, 2023 2:36 PM |
The only openly gay actors who can be leading men or action heroes longterm are gay vague or unclockable homiesexuals.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 6, 2023 2:37 PM |
R49 Pascal is no longer a young actor. Even for male standards, he's 'getting pretty old'. He's late 40s though he can make himself up as 30s on screen (like TLOU starting scenes). But I'm sure he wants a big career into at least his 50s-60s.
If he's straight and an ally, that's nice. If he's 'glass closeted' then whatever but that's still unfortunate we even still do that shit about prospective Hollywood leading men, but its arguably part of a step forward that he's so threadbare about the façade, and I'd hope he drops it in the coming years.

by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 6, 2023 2:52 PM |
What can you do? Audiences still want conventionally masculine to be action heroes, leading men? For whatever reasons, the vast majority of openly gay actors so far haven’t been conventionally masculine. If there were more Luke Evanses in acting, perhaps this barrier. However, this bias and barrier is not restricted to Hollywood; it’s a barrier for all nonmasculine in most businesses

Well know we know how Murial feels about the Daily Mail, which is odd in that stories from there drive much DL traffic.
But my point was just that the only story on Pascal that Google turned up was something from the DM which said he "showed support for LGBTetc community"
Not that he came out.
Other stories were about something he said on the red carpet.
So it does not seem like he came out to most of the non-DL world

Perhaps he just was responding to the current political agenda of the GOP/MAGA ? Passing laws that target the gay and transgender populations. According to him, his family biography shows a very strong activist history.
José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal was born in Santiago, Chile on 2 April 1975,[1] the son of child psychologist Verónica Pascal Ureta and fertility doctor José Balmaceda Riera.[2][3] He has an older sister named Javiera,[4] a younger brother named Nicolás, and a younger sister named Lux, who is an actress and transgender activist.[5][6] His mother was the cousin of Andrés Pascal Allende, the nephew of socialist Chilean President Salvador Allende (through his sister Laura). Andrés was an early leader of the Movement of the Revolutionary Left, an urban guerrilla movement dedicated to the overthrow of the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.[7]
According to Pascal, his parents were devout followers of Allende and active in resistance groups against the Pinochet dictatorship.[8] Because of this, nine months after his birth, his family sought refuge in the Venezuelan embassy in Santiago, and were later granted political asylum in Denmark.[9][10] The family ultimately moved to the United States, where Pascal was raised in Orange County, California and San Antonio, Texas.[11] By the time he was eight, his family was able to take regular trips back to Chile to visit his 34 cousins.[12]
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 6, 2023 3:08 PM |
Pascal was involved in competitive swimming during his early years and took part in the state championships in Texas at the age of 11, but stopped swimming competitively after getting into drama class.[8] He studied acting at the Orange County School of the Arts, graduating in 1993 before moving on to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he graduated in 1997.[10][13] His father was indicted by a federal grand jury in 1995 in relation to events at a fertility clinic he ran with two other men.[3][14] His father, mother, and two youngest siblings thus returned to Chile; Pascal contends that his father did nothing wrong.[15][16] His mother died by suicide in 1999.[3][17] Following her death, he began using her surname professionally, both in honor of her and because he said Americans had difficulty pronouncing the surname Balmaceda

I don’t expect celebrities, gay or straight, to discuss their personal lives. It’s actually odd reading statements addressing sexuality like the Kevin Spacey one posted up thread. I can’t imagine anyone in my real life being pressured into such a conversation. Why do we put this expectation on celebrities?
PP is living his life seemingly authentically while entertaining the masses. He presents as respectful and delightful to be around. I expect nothing more from him.

by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 6, 2023 3:22 PM |
R67 I don't think we should expect *discussions* on anything at all. But just as in all the rest of society, we *can* expect *mention* of things if there is actual social equality. A straight man, a major actor, will absolutely have no issue with at least the mention, the recognition of their wife, or the barest notion of their dating history with girls and women. This is not an invasion, but an actual part of the comfort and privilege that the majority has over sexual minorities. It is suddenly a controversial thing to hope that gay men can feel exactly so comfortable.
We see this a lot in the teaching profession. The straight teachers can outright answer basic questions about their spouse and family, have a photo or two on their desk, but many gay teachers are at least implicitly (and sometimes explicitly) directed to keep their lives so quiet as to be non-existent.
Beyond that, there's not really a defined need. You don't need to address every little question people have about you. You don't need to be a strident activist. You don't need to have a PR managed statement for everything in your life. But I'd still hope that gay people can one day, at large, feel exactly as comfortable about their relationships and major elements of their past and their present, as straight people.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 6, 2023 3:26 PM |
I agree he is probably trying to come out with his post, but I don’t think these sort of nonstatement statements do anyone any good, especially living in the age of the corporate bastardization of the pride flag
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 6, 2023 3:28 PM |
R67, no one expects a public or private individual to discuss whether he prefers to hold his boyfriend's ears as said boyfriend performs fellatio on him.
It is perfectly normal for a public or private individual to discuss whether he prefers men or women.
Does anyone have a right to ask whether a public or private individual prefers men or women? No.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 6, 2023 3:29 PM |
Just to make it clear to r56 and anyone asking the question - Pascal is one hundred percent gay. I know this for a fact. I can't say how I know this for a fact (no I didn't sleep with him) because I was told it in confidence by a friend who worked with him and the story is very specific, i.e. he'd know who was talking about him. But take it to the bank, let's sweep aside any doubts in here
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 6, 2023 3:34 PM |
R73 That's nice but without receipts (which you're under no obligation to provide), don't expect people to 'sweep aside any doubts'. You have your word, as an anon on a snarky website, so that's basically nothing. There's no bank to take this to. You don't even identify yourself.

R74 For those of us who have followed him for years, it's quite obvious he's gay. He liked a ton of gay related posts back when we could see people's activity. And it wasn't just "support the gays" kinda posts either, they were posts relating to the gay experience that only those who are gay would know about.

R78 I tend to not call those just in the closet (especially a 'glass closet' where they may be open to the actual important people who are close to him personally) 'closet cases'. In the closet though, yeah.
The actors who beard, get super overprotective of their image, maybe even project some unnecessary machismo or even homophobia - yes, very much closet cases, but not at all who Pedro Pascal has ever been.

While I don't dispute the conclusion in general R62, that study is using deeply flawed logic if it presented the question as reported in the article. Gay men choosing more masculine-presenting candidates as the person "people" would most admire and think of as a leader doesn't indicate they themselves are biased against feminine men; it simply shows they're not brain dead.
Currently Zachary Quinto's career probably represents the zenith of an openly gay man's as an action hero (if you can call Spock that), and Luke Macfarlane's as a romantic leading man. Pascal's has already arguably exceeded the former's, and he'll almost certainly exceed the latter the minute he signs on as the romantic lead in a drama.

We’ve so digressed as a culture. Am I the only one who remembers Trans Across America from 1986? Even the Reagan’s eventually caved. “See that man over there? He’s my sister or brother! Whoahh! (chorus)” we all formed a human cross dressing daisy chain from Bangor to Baja. Sponsored by Lee Press-On Nails and Ava Gabor wigs.

From the ' Who Will Come Out in 2023' thread:
[quote]The Pedro Pascal "coming out" post was liked by Julian Morris
[quote]Every gay celeb from Matt Bomer to Julian Morris has commented because they already knew and they know this was his coming out.
[quote]Read the comments. Everyone is interpreting it as his coming out.
Luke Evans' ex boyfriend, Spanish model Jon K, has also liked Pascal's rainbow post.

[quote] It is strange, though, that he became a star after being in the biz for 20 years in bit parts, and in his mid-40s.
All it takes it one role for people to notice you. In Pedro's case, that was Game of Thrones' Oberyn Martell.

Pedro getting it on with Will Tudor in Game of Thrones:
by Anonymous | reply 110 | March 7, 2023 8:57 AM |
On Graham Norton he was so fun and charming and just my type: Masculine, sweet, playful.
And gay as the fucking hills. The man has taken dick. For sure.

A lot of TV actors are cast in roles that share traits with them personally because there's a lot less time in TV to rehearse and embody a character than in movies or theatre.
His big breakthrough role was playing a swarthy bisexual on Game of Thrones.

Did he and Ben Aldridge ever date? If not, they need to get on that.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | March 7, 2023 11:23 AM |
Isn’t that “blowing in the wind” post just about support for his trans sibling? Either that or he’s trying to tell us the future is trans for everyone, in which case it’s time to stock the fallout shelters!
by Anonymous | reply 116 | March 7, 2023 11:31 AM |
R115 They did, it apparently traumatized Alridge.

[quote]His father was indicted by a federal grand jury in 1995 in relation to events at a fertility clinic he ran with two other men.[3][14] His father, mother, and two youngest siblings thus returned to Chile; Pascal contends that his father did nothing wrong.
His dad and his partners mistakenly impregnated dozens of couples with with other couples’ embryos. It was a huge scandal at the time as they were running a UC fertility clinic. Women ended up birthing other people’s children and had no idea about it. His father fled to Chile and has been a fugitive ever since.

[quote]Very few view it as coming out
Yeah, unfortunately it is the same old story. Even though we are in 2023, actors are still afraid of coming out. They still have to engage in a long, laborious process of testing the waters and inching out over a period of many, many years.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | March 8, 2023 8:59 AM |
Luke evans came out as a gay bottom back on the uk but still went back in the closet and and even got himself a beard when he first step in hollywood.

Most actors assumed to be gay are actually bi. This one isn't one of them. I don't get the appeal, but I guess I'm in the minority here.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | March 8, 2023 5:01 PM |
Just to be clear, its obvious to me he is 100% gay. The theatrics are tiresome and only mediocre people would engage with it, which I think fits his schtick.

by Anonymous | reply 135 | March 8, 2023 11:58 PM |
Pedro is neither excessively masculine or graced with unimaginable beauty. He's just an average fella of latinx origin who lucked into a few roles late in life. Inc voicing the Mandalorian.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 9, 2023 2:04 AM |
Your rhetoric suggests that the next step below "graced with unimaginable beauty" is "average," r136, which is a ridiculous proposition.
He's quite attractive, which is somewhere between the two. Now, you may notthink so yourself, but many other people do, quite obviously. And you don't get to decide for everyone else.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | March 9, 2023 2:29 AM |
Only the psychotic fraus have their little pink boners up in arms over a nobody actor like Pedro. No one else cares. Hating Megs and pink boners for Pedro are the only reason fraus exist, apparently.

The reason actors like Pedro don't come out is because their appeal is in their masculinity, as sexual fantasies for women, and they find that they don't want to shatter the illusion. It has little do with him being ashamed of his own orientation, and everything to do with his longterm viability as a leading man.
by Anonymous | reply 192 | March 12, 2023 5:40 PM |
It’s not so much for women as it is for men who think that gay men, or most gay men, aren’t manly enough to be an action hero or bad ass or super hero.
