Tell me about Peggy Lipton

Rashida Jones' mother. Looked mid 20s well into her 40s. Used to be a famous actress in the 60s/70. There's not much interesting information about her online, not even in her autobiography.

She reportedly fucked Paul McCartney before she landed Quincy Jones.

Which may explain Quincy's hatred for Paul's bass playing, and for the Beatles in general.

Didn't Quincy Jones beat her up when they were a couple?

by Anonymousreply 2March 5, 2023 11:37 PM

She's listed as a co-writer of this song, along with Patti Austin, and 2 of the members of Rufus.

It wasn't a hit. (who wants to hear Rufus without Chaka singing lead? Apparently, nobody.)

Gorgeous. Loved her in The Mod Squad.

I'm not going to say anything racist.

Always felt sorry for Peggy being dragged to run in the opening credits.

her singing reminds me of dusty springfield.

I can’t name one other credit - only Mod Squad.

After The Mod Squad, Lipton married musician Quincy Jones and began a 15-year hiatus from acting, during which she raised her two children, Kidada and Rashida Jones. She returned to acting in 1988, performing in many TV roles, including Norma Jennings in David Lynch's Twin Peaks.

Slutty. Would fuck anybody for advancement. Boring actress.

by Anonymousreply 10March 6, 2023 12:16 AM

I remember she was in a commercial or commercials for (I think) some cell phone company with Rashida and I thought she looked gorgeous as ever and then she died a month later! I was shocked. Apparently had had colon cancer since 2004.

"Twin Peaks." She played Norma, the waitress at the diner who was having the affair with Ed.

[quote] Tell me about Peggy Lipton

This thread title should have been:

‘Give me the tea about Lipton (Peggy)’

by Anonymousreply 14March 6, 2023 12:27 AM

I’m surprised at how nice her voice is, I had no idea she sang.

I saw an interesting episode of a geneaology show - I think it was "Finding Your Roots" - with Peggy and Rashida.

Peggy's ancestors were Lithuania Jews, who immigrated to America after living for decades in Ireland.

It was a really interesting show, and Peggy seemed engaged and moved by the information about her ancestry.

Was it Who Do You Think You Are?

She was Larry Tate's junior secretary in early episodes of Bewitched.

(Others I've spotted on there include a tiny Marcia Brady and pre-Bat Adam West.)

by Anonymousreply 18March 6, 2023 6:10 AM

I think Aaron Spelling considered her for one of the Charlie’s Angels roles but she wanted to focus on raising her children at the time.

She looked so beautiful as Norma in Twin Peaks. Her performance also made me think of a Lana Turner type when Lana did melodrama like Peyton Place and Imitation of Life.
