When did Brendan Fraser become such an emotionally unstable wreck?
He was on Kelly Clarkson's show, where he tells the story of how he almost got choked out filming a scene from The Mummy. And as usual, when he retells a story, he removes his glasses and nearly gets teary-eyed. Thankfully, Kelly's bubbly personality steered him from giving us the full waterworks and turning the segment into an Oprah Winfrey Super Soul Sunday moment.
When did he become so fragile and quick to cry in every interview? I don't remember him being this way back in the 90s and 2000s.

No director is going to want an emotionally fragile actor on his set. He may be winning an Oscar but he is not advancing his career.

I was going to say he’s of Irish descent and maybe he is a drinker (given his weight issues). I guess Fraser is Scottish though, so that stereotype doesn’t really apply.

r6 well, became known as a mean drunk..,., he became quite nasty before the divorce. And many people defended some of the mental health beginning questions over the years as "jokes" like the desire to punch holes in his kid's condoms. On the other side, I knew their personal chef (who was as fat as him in The Whale) that was absolutely devoted to him despite having to be let go because apparently he couldn't manage his finances. It seems people either love him or are indifferent. Which is par the course for most basketcases.

Brendan's new brand is emotional instability! His next project is a series of tear-stained Kleenex commercials. Then a revival of "Death of Salesman" on Broadway. Followed by his first album: Brendan Sings Feelings and More. This will complete his EGOT grand slam.

Colin Farrell gave the best performance of the year. But he won’t win because he’s not whoring himself out on the awards circuit. He’s just a pro who got sober and has dignity.

I’ve been treated for PTSD for a couple of individual incidents in my life and this just isn’t adding up. There is so much more to this story than I’m guessing Brendan even is aware.
As shocking and upsetting as the grope and his feeling of helplessness may have been these ongoing incidents of not being able to maintain composure are way out of balance. He is not a Holocaust survivor. He is not Hang S. Njor who won an Oscar for tapping into his experiences in Cambodia,
Either Brendan has incest sexual abuse in his past and/or unresolved sexuality issues, I don’t believe for a second the grope was anything more than trigger for some real ugly trauma we don’t know about and that Brendan hasn’t even begun to face.

r15 or he's just a standard pretty boy that never had much talent and had to rely on his looks but had an addictive personality to food, sex, shopping, you name it.,... when his career was on the decline he was in Tom Cruise/Oprah territory for several years. Which rightfully the public stepped away from his crazy ass. You'd get more of a glimpse his nastiness over his over the top bitchiness of people not getting either his first name or last name right. But then, comes along Doom Patrol which revitalized his career with stans that couldn't separate reality from fiction ... particularly obsessed with his reaction to their proxy with the mpd girl they've selfdx'd themselves into being... though some aspects of seems reflective of Brenden himself, say the drinking, cheating, but alas, most people view his ex as being a gold digging whore and never mind the kids.

One thing that's been interesting is that he's definitely lost a lot of weight in the last year--and he also either has a great weave or great wigs or a great transplant. I wonder if he could be back to leading man shape in a year or two.

Farrell needs to make up for being an overrated, underachieving twat in his early years. Hopefully he's got another Oscar-worthy performance in him.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Brandon Fraser these days is pussy. He used to be so cute and sexy. I think it really effected my opinion of The Whale. He just seemed like a fat, blubbering, sobbing mess. I saw it in the theatre and spent the money because I wanted to see it. I was underwhelmed. I don't think he'll be the winner. His work has been too inconsistent and his box office numbers aren't there to tip it as a legacy win (like Will Smith).

r24 just look back to the gossip news with his marriage and the divorce. . which incidentally, a cynical person might think the sexual allegation was to mitigate the other damage. oh, and incidentally before his own claims of being a victim, he had been accused too - of assault, intoxication, slurs - there's at least one that went public - back and forth with lawsuits, but there were rumours of coming in drunk, physical fights, otherwise being inappropriate on sets, before and after. And with the divorce, unlike how most go, she was largely staying quiet, the number got jacked up, I believe because, he was weaponizing the press against her and trying to make himself look pitiful. He'd do it again with trying to reduce alimony and child support claiming a back injury from trying to remove a tree from hurricane sandy, like so many other poor americans dealing with the aftermath.....

^ what I mean is it varies in interviews.. because each time, it becomes a little more exaggerated. He becomes a little more victimized, and the story builds as to how indifferent everyone is to his feelings. It's like he's running for congress.

Always found it odd how he was more vocal than women who got properly MeToo'd by Cosby or Weinstein. Like r15 said, there are some other factors at play here. I believe he wasn't traumatised by the act itself, it's just that his ego is furious that someone perceived him as a piece of ass, just like so many see women on a daily basis.

He was a guest on Marc Maron's podcast WTF. He came off as morose and monotone. Particularly when he was talking about his sexual assault, his ass groped at the Golden Globes. Ultimately I thought what a weak and damaged person. The Oscar push must traumatize him by having to relive events.

Speaking of Kleenex, here's a tearjerker of a review on Amazon from the struggling mother of three adolescent boys, in what used to be a good Christian home, who cannot thank Kleenex enough to make her life less perilous, but wished she could get them on subscription, as the last time she forgot to buy the Kleenex in due time, she almost cut her hand on a sock.

He's a sensitive guy, and he should be in light comedies or in dramedies. He's all wrong for superhero movies like "Batigrl."
I do think if he continues to lose weight, with the hair transplant he should be up again for good roles. He's still got a very handsome face, and he's quite likable (when he's not crying or feeling sorry for himself). He's a good actor when called upon to be one by a good script.

If he wants any type of "manly" role he has to quit it with the sobbing at random times. If that's for real, go to therapy. Continuing to work through your issues during press is unhinged and childish.

If he could stop sobbing for an hour or two and sort out his hair issue, he could be an attractive man. Great skin, deep voice, and so tall. If he needs to cry daily maybe he can schedule a "to-do" list where he does so in the privacy of his own home, like the rest of us, when we are going through shit. Someone tell his agent this.
