The other episode he appeared in was the fifth of the series, before anyone knew him (or Vivian) well.

I forget who, but someone who worked at Desilu said they purposely avoided using him. (They recycled other bit actors, like Frank Nelson and Charles Lane.) Desi also refused to cast him opposite Vivian in Guestward, Ho!

But why not get ANYBODY else? It’s Hollywood in the 50s. And Desi and Lucy could have just called ANYBODY else. Come on.
