Holy Moly! I’m watching some reruns of the d Gidget with Sally Field and Don Porter as her dad. Dayum. Daddy Don is smoking hot. And he and Sally Field clearly have the hots for each other. Porter’s boner for Sally is matched only by my boner for Daddy Don.

Sorry - when OP wrote “daddy” I thought they were referencing Field’s stepfather, who was also an actor.
She loved the actor who played her dad on GIDGET, as her own home life was so strained.

Ohhhhh, Mr. Sands!
I was absolutely wild for Ann Sothern in PRIVATE SECRETARY when I was a tiny gayling watching morning re-runs when I could stay home from school. As the eponymous lead character, Sothern played Susie McNamara and, I swear, she is the gal who literally taught me to dial the phone with my pencil. She also taught me that you could hold a drinking glass up against door if you wanted to hear what was going on beyond that door. She wore chic black dresses with tiny corseted waists and crinolines with fluffy skirts and the most divine little black hats.
But, most importantly, she was always getting her boss, talent agent Peter Sands, out of trouble. I don't remember that there was ever a whiff of romance or even flirtation between them. Susie was an independent career girl long before the advent of Mary Richards. The episodes were never about her finding a man. I don't know why the character and program were never credited with that.
AS for Don Porter, I was far more consumed with Edd "Kookie" Byrnes and Clint "Cheyenne" Walker in my bedtime fantasies.

Don Porter did not molest Sally Field. He was kind to her on “Gidget,” a TV series she didn’t talk much about in her autobiography, which was very readable. But she liked Porter, who understood the pressure she was under to carry the series.
The person who molested her was her stepfather, actor Jock Mahoney, who used to wrap her up and masturbate against her.

IIRC Don Porter was eventually brought onto Ann Sothern's second sitcom simply called The Ann Sothern Show, in which he played a NY hotelier to Ann's assistant hotel manager Katy O'Connor. The series wasn't the follow-up success to Private Secretary that was expected and there was hope that the reunion of Porter with Sothern could boost ratings. I don't think it did, though the series might have lasted 2 or 3 seasons.

I read she enjoyed doing the show Gidget and hated doing the show the Flying Nun because of the way she was treated on the set.
