How did the whole Danny Thomas meme get started?

I mean really..

by Anonymousreply 24November 6, 2024 4:19 AM

What meme? I don't read much gossip, so does anyone want to share? I'm just getting into memes and I'm sure it's something delightful I can post for giggles on my Facebook page. Thanks in advance guys!

It's an old rumor started decades ago. Glancing at Usenet archives, I see mentions of it back to 1993, and apparently it was a running meme on Don & Mike's radio show.

No idea where it originated.

____ and giggles

He used to lay underneath a glass coffee table and jack off while people he hired shit on top

by Anonymousreply 5February 19, 2023 11:52 PM

I thought he was a lesbian?

by Anonymousreply 6February 20, 2023 12:49 AM

R5, that's disgusting... :-/

by Anonymousreply 7February 20, 2023 12:53 AM

R5, I think OP is asking the source for that story. It could be true, but it could also be as fake as the gerbil shoved up Richard Gere's ass. Did someone who knew first-hand (or even reliably second-hand) start or confirm the claim, or is it one of those "everybody knows" stories like so many of the "[Old Hollywood A-list actor] was gay, of course" claims stated as fact?

by Anonymousreply 8February 20, 2023 1:17 AM

OP, Julianne Moore. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 9February 20, 2023 1:25 AM

It’s so bizarre and random I think it has to be true.

by Anonymousreply 10February 20, 2023 1:38 AM

I think he's tremendous!

by Anonymousreply 11February 20, 2023 2:24 AM

I'm guessing that someone who got paid to indulge the fetish started the rumor. (If the rumor is true.)

In the DL bible, You'll Never Make Love in This Town Again, one of the prostitutes said that Sylvester Stallone had a scat fetish. I forgot whether it involved a glass table or not, but it might have.

Separate from that, my friend worked at a resort hotel (room service). He told me that Stallone stayed at the hotel and that one of the housekeepers complained about Stallone leaving shit in the shower. I had never discussed YNMLITTA with my friend, so that story came out of left field, yet corroborated the prostitute's story.

by Anonymousreply 12February 20, 2023 2:32 AM

Why do you think it's a rumor?

by Anonymousreply 13February 20, 2023 3:08 AM

It's just an "everybody knows" rumor, r8. The first time I heard the rumor it was about Sylvester Stallone, back in the 1980s. It was on Usenet on alt.fan.cecil-adams (which was basically the first version of the Straight Dope forums) where I learned the rumor originated about Danny Thomas.

There's a 1995 "Ren & Stimpy" cartoon referenced it, also listing Raymond Burr and Desi Arnaz as glass coffee table aficionados.

Danny Thomas secretly called his glass coffee table fetish "Scat Girl" in honor of his daughter's success.

Sometimes he would wear a priest outfit when he did it.

by Anonymousreply 17December 15, 2023 11:43 AM

I’m sick to death of people dumping on Danny Thomas

by Anonymousreply 18December 15, 2023 11:48 AM

Well, Danny pooped on the coffee table... The rest is history

by Anonymousreply 19December 15, 2023 11:56 AM

The kids these days refer to it as a "glass bottom boat."

Will people ever get passed this shitshow?

by Anonymousreply 21December 17, 2023 4:08 PM

It was just a natural progression from doing all those Maxwell House coffee commercials.

by Anonymousreply 22December 17, 2023 4:13 PM

Sid Melton apparently confirmed its reliability to Gilbert Gottfried, who was on of the popularizers of this.
