One of the very last episodes of Frasier (Crock Tales) was a “fake flashbacks” episode in which Frasier recalls pivotal moments in the apartment from the last ten years. The wigs on Daphne and Roz appear to have been deliberately bad, as with each flashback they look worse and worse. This is one of the flashbacks.

The Decades binge last weekend was Burke's Law and Gloria Grahame was on one episode with a horrible wig. I can't find a pic, but it was just sad.

[quote]Pretty much any sheitel I've ever seen in person is instantly recognizably fake.
I've always assumed it was on purpose because if it were too realistic looking it would defeat the purpose on covering one's head in the first place.

Dustin Hoffman said that Heston wore a bald cap over his toupee in order to play bald.

r26 Ok, that makes a lot more sense to me. I always wondered why they worse such crappy, poor-quality wigs.

[quote]Dustin Hoffman said that Heston wore a bald cap over his toupee in order to play bald.
I looked up photos of Heston in A Man for All Seasons and it looks as if he insisted on wearing a hairpiece even though the character was supposed to be bald.
Heston turned into a giant rectangle with a square for a head as he got older.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 6, 2023 4:44 AM |
r51, yep. I didn't watch the show but I saw some stills and couldn't get over how bad her hair looked. The hair and makeup department must have loathed her.

[Quote][R76] I'm probably not going to watch the whole episode, could you summarize what the host said, please?
R85 Host John Daly didn't say anything mean about her wig, but explained (at 24:27) that she was able to arrive at the studio shortly after her husband, Steve Lawrence, left the house, because she was able to "get that pretty head of hair so quick and so fast."
(Steve Lawrence was a guest panelist, and his wife was the mystery guest they all had to guess while blindfolded. He didn't expect it to be her, since he had left her while she was washing the dishes, with her real hair all down.)
