Rich & powerful annual Alfalfa Club meeting scheduled for 1/28/23.

This black-tie DC club celebrates the birthday of Robert E. Lee. Current Prez & VP: David Rubenstein and James Mattis. Members include Bezos, Gates, US political and military power players. Held yearly at the Capitol Hilton with a VERY private after-party. Press/public not allowed to attend either one. Big opportunity for money/military/politics to mingle without oversight.

Also, the Marine Corps orchestra plays...who is paying for that?

Every US President has been a member and attended, except Jimmy Carter who refused membership.

It used to be The He-Man Woman Haters Club!

R4 Perhaps they'll show on 1/28 at the Capitol Hilton? Unbelievable that no attention is given to this gathering of the rich and powerful. The media ignore it because most of the members are their sources/leakers.

They haven't met for three years. Too embarrassed because of the Robert E Lee connection?

Jim Mattis was elected President at last Saturday's meeting. Are congratulations in order?

by Anonymousreply 8January 31, 2023 4:25 PM

Media ignore them out of fear of losing their sources.

The USMC band plays for this fiesta. Who is paying for this?

by Anonymousreply 10February 3, 2023 6:01 AM

To be fair, the US Marine Band plays hundreds of social events every year, and has since the days of John Philip Souza. There's a small official band of I think 40 members that play official U.S. events, and then about 100 other members who make up the bands that play basically patriotic music at all sorts of DC events. It probably wasn't that scandalous for the USMB to play the Alfalfa Club back in 1913 but these days it would be, if anyone knew about it. The Club likes to stay under the radar.

R11 Of course, the USMC band plays many public events every year but who pays for them to entertain at private events?

And now we know about it.

Also, the Robert E Lee connection should be enough to embarrass the political assholes in attendance.

According to gossip about last Saturday's Alfalfa meeting at the DC Hilton which included DL faves Susan Collins and Mitch McConnell:

[quote]"SPOTTED at the notoriously off-the-record Alfalfa Club dinner on Saturday night at the Capitol Hilton, which featured speeches by outgoing president David Rubenstein, incoming president Jim Mattis, “crop reporter” Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) (who introduced the new “sprouts”) and Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who introduced Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), whom the Alfalfa Club jokingly selected as its nominee to run for U.S. president, in line with its annual tradition: Tim Cook, Doug McMillon, David Solomon, John F.W. Rogers, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Elaine Chao, Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and Annie Lamont,Rob Portman, Dina Powell McCormick and David McCormick, Andy Card, UAE Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore …
