This woman face looks as dull as Chloe Sevinnney.

by Anonymousreply 2January 25, 2023 8:45 PM

I love Natasha Lyonne. I've met her and she's delightful.

by Anonymousreply 3January 25, 2023 8:47 PM

Watch it? No. I can barely get through this post without falling asleeeeeeeeeeeeeee

by Anonymousreply 4January 25, 2023 8:47 PM

One picture. Face covered.

by Anonymousreply 5January 25, 2023 8:49 PM

I'm looking forward to it, I think she's great. Her Golden Globes appearance slayed.

by Anonymousreply 6January 25, 2023 8:49 PM

Wasn't he one of the background noses in the movie "Fame"?

You know. With that dead lead singer of the Raisenets.

by Anonymousreply 7January 25, 2023 8:51 PM

Is Gaga involved?

by Anonymousreply 8January 25, 2023 8:52 PM

I'd like to give it a try but I don't think I can access it without subscribing to yet another streaming service.

by Anonymousreply 9January 25, 2023 8:53 PM

Just pirate it, bro

by Anonymousreply 10January 25, 2023 8:56 PM

r10 i used to use ProjectFreeTV and stream all kinds of shows (including Love Island UK, pre-Caroline Flacks's sad demise), but then it went defunct and I've never found an alternative.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

by Anonymousreply 11January 25, 2023 9:08 PM

As long as you have a good adblocker like ublock origin you'll be fine with any number of the streaming sites.

Awesome, thanks r12!!! And yes, I do have adblocker software.

by Anonymousreply 13January 25, 2023 9:14 PM

Love her. And so glad she’s healthy and working regularly.

by Anonymousreply 14January 25, 2023 9:15 PM

Use bflix. Google the link

by Anonymousreply 15January 25, 2023 9:16 PM

[quote] so glad she’s healthy

Is she recovering from some disease?

by Anonymousreply 16January 25, 2023 9:16 PM

Thanks, r15

by Anonymousreply 17January 25, 2023 9:17 PM

r16: In 2005, she had hep C, a collapsed lung, and endocarditis, as well as a heroin addiction. She had to have open heart surgery later to replace the heart valve damaged by the endocarditis infection.

by Anonymousreply 18January 25, 2023 9:21 PM

Natasha Lyonne = Natasha Bianca Lyonne Braunstein.

by Anonymousreply 19January 25, 2023 9:24 PM

CAA sure has been demanding recognition for these perennial faves.

I’m glad they come to DL to collect it. A true grass-snoots campaign.

by Anonymousreply 20January 25, 2023 9:40 PM

r20 it's no surprise that Natasha Lyonne is a topic of interest on a gay forum.

by Anonymousreply 21January 25, 2023 9:41 PM

[quote] Rave reviews …

None from me. Miss Braunstein, R19, doesn't go to my synagogue.

by Anonymousreply 22January 25, 2023 10:05 PM

What did they do to her hair!! I hope it’s wig.

by Anonymousreply 23January 26, 2023 1:48 AM

Fuck no. Rian Johnson is awful, and Natasha Lyonne sounds like an ashtray. Hard pass.

by Anonymousreply 24January 26, 2023 6:53 AM

Peacock finally has a show that's worth pirating!

by Anonymousreply 25January 26, 2023 6:27 PM

No Braunstein in my living room.

by Anonymousreply 26January 26, 2023 11:30 PM

She played the lead role in the classic lesbian coming-of-age movie, "But I'm a Cheerleader" (2000). She should be a DL Fave.

by Anonymousreply 27January 26, 2023 11:37 PM

r27 she is a DL fave except for the eldergays who haven't left their hovels since 1989 and have no idea who she is.

by Anonymousreply 28January 26, 2023 11:44 PM

[quote] she is a DL fave except for the eldergays

But the eldergays comprise 60% of Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 29January 26, 2023 11:47 PM

They show a preview practically time I turn to Peacock. I haven't watched it yet because I'm not a fan of Adrien Brody.

by Anonymousreply 30January 27, 2023 12:37 AM

I love her. She’s talented.

by Anonymousreply 31January 27, 2023 12:48 AM

She's amazing in this and Russian Doll. Glad she got her shit together, she was a drug addicted mess a few years back.

by Anonymousreply 32January 29, 2023 2:28 AM

“Fuck you, dog! Fuck you, dog!” made me laugh out loud.

by Anonymousreply 33January 29, 2023 4:59 AM

I love it so far

by Anonymousreply 34January 29, 2023 5:01 AM

It was entertaining. We’ll done and better than most of the garbage on Netflix. wc nes with Lyonne and Brody were fun. it’s rare these days to see obviously Jewish actors doing their, thing. They should come up with a good project for Luonne, Brody, Sarah Silverman, Fran D and other actors who,are comfortable being Jewish.

by Anonymousreply 35January 29, 2023 5:11 AM

The scenes with ….

{quote]she was a drug addicted mess a few years back.

Weren't we all?

by Anonymousreply 37January 29, 2023 5:15 AM

She almost DIED r37. She had to have heart surgery. She was in the hospital for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 38January 29, 2023 5:27 AM

I'm on episode2 so far and love it. NL has a great body.

by Anonymousreply 39January 29, 2023 1:27 PM

I watched the first episode last night. Really loved it

by Anonymousreply 40January 29, 2023 1:46 PM

Love her.

by Anonymousreply 41January 29, 2023 2:17 PM

I like her. She’s different. She could eat half these new stars for breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 42January 29, 2023 2:20 PM

“Cartoonish, over-the-top woman thrills audience full of homosexuals.”

by Anonymousreply 43January 29, 2023 2:24 PM

I watched all 4 episodes that are available, and I love it. It’s like she is a new Jessica Fletcher. I didn’t realize she would be solving a new mystery every episode. Natasha is so very watchable. Great guest stars, too.

by Anonymousreply 44January 29, 2023 2:29 PM

Is Natasha the new Bonita Granville?

by Anonymousreply 45January 29, 2023 3:32 PM

I think it's a great show so far. It has an almost Columbo flavor to it. I like how they begin each episode then flashback to show how she's involved. I wonder if it will be her on the run the whole time or if she'll settle somewhere and become a police/FBI fact finder or whatever. Her voice, though, can be almost too gravely to listen to without being distracted.

by Anonymousreply 46January 29, 2023 4:23 PM

This is the first thing I've seen that makes me want to put Peacock on my (overstuffed) Roku.

Can anyone tell me if it can be watched on the free, stuffed-with-commercials tier, or do I have to subscribe?

by Anonymousreply 47January 30, 2023 12:45 AM

r47 there's a link to watch it free upthread.

by Anonymousreply 48January 30, 2023 1:17 AM

She's a fascinating woman. Love watching her in anything. Russian Doll was mesmerizing.

by Anonymousreply 49January 30, 2023 1:23 AM

It’s fantastic! Watch’s first 2 episodes today and forced myself to stop and not binge the 4 available because I want to savor it

by Anonymousreply 50January 30, 2023 1:52 AM

It’s very good. I love Natasha Lyonne, she’s basically a chainsmoking Muppet.

by Anonymousreply 51January 30, 2023 2:50 AM

Is she lez? She smells of self oil changes and power tools.

by Anonymousreply 52January 30, 2023 3:03 AM

Loving it. Natasha is great. Yes it’s about murders but it’s nice to not feel depressed and existentially wrung out like you do after watching most HBO or Netflix shows.

by Anonymousreply 53January 30, 2023 1:41 PM

I couldn't get through the first episode. Maybe it's because I have covid and the comedic parts seemed unnecessary. People are raving about it.

by Anonymousreply 54January 30, 2023 2:37 PM

If she gets sick again, Jinkx Monsoon can take her place.

by Anonymousreply 55January 30, 2023 3:06 PM

Is Lyonne still with Fred Armisen? Chloe Sevigny looks like hell on a cracker.

by Anonymousreply 56January 30, 2023 3:18 PM

She broke up with Fred Armisen. I thought the same about Chloe, she looked rough as hell. I don't know if that's how she really looks or if they just uglied her up for the show.

by Anonymousreply 57January 30, 2023 3:23 PM

R53 I found the murder in episode 2 pretty grim and depressing.

by Anonymousreply 58January 30, 2023 4:18 PM

I liked the 1st episode but then it kind of lost me in Episode 2. I don't plan on watching this every week to see - surprise! - she solves a mystery, so what's the point.

Never watched Murder, She Wrote either. This is like "The Hitcher" or something.

I've had sufficient.

by Anonymousreply 59January 30, 2023 9:24 PM

Episode 2 — fun. I'd never heard of Hong Chau before the Oscar nomination but she's great as a conspiracy theorist dyke trucker.

But John Ratzenberger! He must have put on 100 pounds since Cheers. He's a whale.

by Anonymousreply 60January 31, 2023 5:12 AM

Hong Chau was great, maybe she'll come back in another episode.

by Anonymousreply 61January 31, 2023 5:21 AM

Episode 3 is the best so far.

by Anonymousreply 62January 31, 2023 12:26 PM

No, I don't like Rian Johnson's writing.

by Anonymousreply 63January 31, 2023 2:12 PM

Cliff looked like he ate Norm.

by Anonymousreply 64January 31, 2023 3:12 PM

Episode 5 is da bomb. Literally.

by Anonymousreply 65February 2, 2023 6:05 PM

Loved Judith Light in ep. 5

"So what are we gonna watch tonight? You gonna keep going with Euph-whorica?"

Judith: "Kids who think they invented fucking? No thank you."

by Anonymousreply 66February 2, 2023 7:30 PM

While watching the latest episode I was really struck by how great Natasha looks for 43, especially considering all the smoking and her former druggie years.

by Anonymousreply 67February 3, 2023 12:08 AM

I've never liked her, I don't think I'll change that any time soon.

by Anonymousreply 68February 3, 2023 12:11 AM

I just watched episode 4, which was hilarious. I loved the one-hit-wonder metal band from the 2000s now dealing with acid reflux and AARP invitations, and the dumb kid on the tour who spends his time watching reruns of "Benson."

by Anonymousreply 69February 4, 2023 2:23 AM

She kind of creeps me out, which is funny since I love that same voice on Kathleen Turner.

But I suppose I'll give this show a try.

by Anonymousreply 70February 4, 2023 2:51 AM

Also liked the stray dog that wouldn't stop barking unless Natasha put on right-wing radio.

"Oh! You racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic piece a shit DAWG!"

by Anonymousreply 71February 4, 2023 2:57 AM

Not a big NL fan, but I watched the first episode tonight and enjoyed it. I like how the credits recall the 70s style of Columbo, Rockford, etc. NL reminds me in moments of Angie Dickinson and Gena Rowlands. She’s actually aging into a more interesting actress.

by Anonymousreply 72February 4, 2023 5:06 AM

As others have said, Lyonne looks really good in spite of all the smoking and years of hard drug use.

by Anonymousreply 73February 4, 2023 5:09 AM

I couldn’t get into Russian Doll but loving this series and Natasha in it. The fight scene with Judith Light and S. Epatha Merkinson in this week’s episode was hilarious!

by Anonymousreply 74February 4, 2023 5:10 AM

I will give it a try.

by Anonymousreply 75February 4, 2023 5:48 AM

It's unabashedly a Columbo reboot. I'm cool with it. Bisexual Ben Bratt is in the first episode and he's aged very well.

by Anonymousreply 76February 4, 2023 7:15 AM

Surely you meant Judith Light's Poker Face, OP?

by Anonymousreply 77February 4, 2023 7:37 AM

I'm glad I gave this show 3 episodes. The first 2 really struggle but once it settles into the Columbo formula it's a blast. This last one was incredible.

by Anonymousreply 78February 4, 2023 7:48 AM

I've never seen Columbo and neither have most people under 100.

by Anonymousreply 79February 4, 2023 2:30 PM

You're a dumbass, R79. Columbo remains incredibly popular worldwide, including with people who weren't born when it was originally on the air.

"You're old" isn't a witty zinger; it's just rude.

I've only seen the first episode of Poker Face but I loved it and look forward to watching more.

by Anonymousreply 80February 4, 2023 2:33 PM

Sorry r80 but Columbo isn't exactly a big show to people who weren't alive when it was originally on. All I know is it starred that guy with the glass eye.

Poker Face is a great show, though.

by Anonymousreply 81February 4, 2023 2:52 PM

I liked Russian doll but sometimes she struck me as Al Pacino in a woman's body. "Hey, I'm a New Yorkah! Bada bing Bada boom"

I still think she's hilarious and different from a lot of boring actresses Lily Collins like actresses out there.

by Anonymousreply 82February 4, 2023 2:58 PM

Natasha Lyonne has what a lot of actresses today don't have - charisma and personality.

by Anonymousreply 83February 4, 2023 3:03 PM

Everything that comes out of her mouth is hilarious, compelling and sincere. She always plays the same character but it's a highly entertaining one so no one cares. She's Generation X's Jennifer Coolidge.

by Anonymousreply 84February 4, 2023 4:58 PM

I thought I’d give it a whirl Baden on the rave reviews it’s getting, & I can’t praise it enough. Natasha is wonderful as usual, the layout of the crime is so clever, & the show is laugh out loud funny (omg the Judith Light-S. Epatha Merkeson & Natasha Lyonne fight scene). I binged all 5 eps in 2 days & now I have to wait til Thursday just to see 1 at a time!

by Anonymousreply 85February 6, 2023 2:50 AM

I did too, r85.

E1 great, E2,3,4, kinda week. E5, the one that is sent to Emmy and SAG.

by Anonymousreply 86February 6, 2023 4:20 AM

Lyonne really ought to play Clara Bow.

by Anonymousreply 87February 6, 2023 9:22 AM

I love this show and went back to watch Columbo, which I somehow entirely missed even though I am an eldergay. Holy shit, she has his voice.

by Anonymousreply 88February 9, 2023 3:15 PM

It makes me want to watch Columbo too. She just talks like that though!

by Anonymousreply 89February 9, 2023 3:46 PM

I just started rewatching Columbo on Peacock because of this thread. They are similar! I love both shows.

by Anonymousreply 90February 9, 2023 5:58 PM

I enjoyed this week’s episode but it probably my least favorite of the season. Ellen Barkin seemed to be having a ball with her role. It would have been more effective had they cast a stronger actor than Tim Meadows to play opposite her.

by Anonymousreply 91February 11, 2023 5:43 AM

I’m disappointed that the facts that Charlie’s on the run from the mob and has the ability to detect a lie seem only to be periodically remembered by the scriptwriters.

by Anonymousreply 92February 11, 2023 12:56 PM

R92, my only gripe too but it's still fun. I agree about the most recent episode is the weakest. I don't really care for Ellen Barkin is probably why for me. Aren't there only three episodes left?

by Anonymousreply 93February 11, 2023 1:21 PM

[quote] Her Golden Globes appearance slayed.

That’s enough, gramps.

by Anonymousreply 94February 11, 2023 1:25 PM

Yeah, this week’s episode was a bit of a snooze.

by Anonymousreply 95February 11, 2023 1:57 PM

r92, every once in a while they show a clip of the mobsters with her in a car chase.

It seems to be a teaser for Season 2.

They haven't forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 96February 11, 2023 7:32 PM

^Perhaps not. But someone has forgotten proper sentence structure.

by Anonymousreply 97February 11, 2023 7:57 PM

Judith Light should play Chloe Sevigny’s mother in something

by Anonymousreply 98February 11, 2023 8:01 PM

Chloe Sevigny looks like hot hell. WTF happened to her?

by Anonymousreply 99February 11, 2023 9:21 PM

R97, Please, for cunt to go fuck dem self. .

by Anonymousreply 100February 11, 2023 9:28 PM

Am I the only one who enjoyed the latest episode with Ellen barkin. I actually thought it was pretty funny particularly the play within the show and those southern baked accents.

by Anonymousreply 101February 11, 2023 11:49 PM

Southern fried

by Anonymousreply 102February 11, 2023 11:49 PM

I don’t like her. I used to like her in the early part of her career, but…her sober self was quite rude to me in lobby of the SJF THEATER. She body-blocked the will call window to chat and had to be asked by more than just me to get out of he way. Then she vaped…

No thx

by Anonymousreply 103February 11, 2023 11:53 PM

Great actress and she picks good roles. Talented and lucky.

by Anonymousreply 104February 12, 2023 12:49 AM

R103, using that volunteer usher POWER!!!

by Anonymousreply 105February 12, 2023 5:48 AM

R103 sounds sniffy, snooty and uppity. I bet Natasha was a garrulous ton of fun.

by Anonymousreply 106February 12, 2023 9:47 AM

I watch it for her Nancy Wilson hair alone.

by Anonymousreply 107February 12, 2023 10:12 AM

Anyone in the UK know how/where we can watch it?

by Anonymousreply 108February 12, 2023 10:22 AM

Her appearance on WWHL last week was hilarious. Disclosing she read for the roles of Blossom, Six, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Curly Sue, among others, was awesome.

by Anonymousreply 109February 12, 2023 10:36 AM

R109 lol imagining a hard-drinking cracksmoking openly bisexual Sabrina with a Yankee accent

by Anonymousreply 110February 12, 2023 10:41 AM

I love come back kid stories . Happy for her and rooting also for Lindsey L

by Anonymousreply 111February 12, 2023 11:02 AM

R105 and R106. Actually, I just wanted to pick up my own ticket at the window…you know, so I could see the show.

by Anonymousreply 112February 12, 2023 11:59 AM

I like the set ups, but it’s always silly how Charlie comes in and solves the crime within minutes.

by Anonymousreply 113February 12, 2023 12:45 PM

[quote]Actually, I just wanted to pick up my own ticket at the window…you know, so I could see the show.

Which show?

by Anonymousreply 114February 12, 2023 3:46 PM

One of those plays about an angst-y UWS family…I think it was the one with Jessica Hecht

by Anonymousreply 115February 12, 2023 5:22 PM

Is she still with Fred armisen? He's a great impressionist but he makes me uneasy. I just wouldn't want to know him.

by Anonymousreply 116February 13, 2023 4:27 AM

R116 you'll be heartened to know they broke up last year.

I think they lean on the bullshit detector thing just enough to make it believable and not too gimmicky. This last episode was the campiest yet. Not the best written, but it was entertaining. Ellen Barkin and Tim Meadows managed to have some chemistry to me.

by Anonymousreply 117February 14, 2023 7:10 AM

Renewed!

by Anonymousreply 119February 15, 2023 4:11 PM

I just watched Time of the Monkey and when Luca told Charlie to contact him if she ever needed him I looked at Simon Helberg's IMDB page and he's in episode 10 of the first season.

by Anonymousreply 120February 19, 2023 12:19 AM

She looks sexy in the OP cover pic, even with the ugly hillbilly baseball cap on and the dried split ends.

by Anonymousreply 121February 19, 2023 12:32 AM

After that post about everything that happened to her (drugs, open heart surgery, etc.) I would have appreciated the gif with the mature woman saying "Jesus!" Can someone please post that?

What color would you say her hair is?

by Anonymousreply 122February 19, 2023 6:15 AM

The wig she wears on the show is purposely made to look like a faded red dye job.

Hard to say what her real hair looks like these days - she's worn nothing but wigs in public appearances too.

by Anonymousreply 123February 21, 2023 12:40 AM

I got hooked on it this weekend. On episode 4 and loving this show - throwback to the old detective shows in the 70s.

by Anonymousreply 124February 21, 2023 12:47 AM

Staplehead!

by Anonymousreply 125February 21, 2023 1:57 AM

What do you think of episode 5, r124? I think it's the Emmy submit episode.

by Anonymousreply 126February 21, 2023 2:02 AM

I felt that episode 7 was the strongest so far. It made use of Charlie’s bullshit detector in clever but not gimmicky ways.

by Anonymousreply 127February 21, 2023 2:20 AM

She’s too old to play Clara Bow. Anyway she is more like Joan Blondell.

by Anonymousreply 128February 21, 2023 2:52 AM

It’s fine but the premise gets old quickly.

Isn’t it weird that, wherever she is, someone gets murdered? Like Jessica Fletcher

by Anonymousreply 129February 21, 2023 11:04 AM

R129 isn’t that the point? It’s a throwback to those shows with a modern twist. I see what you mean though, the formula is a bit repetitive.

by Anonymousreply 130February 21, 2023 12:25 PM

Episode 5 was stupid. The Judith Light character climbs up the trellis in broad daylight and no one sees her???? Stupid stupid stupid. Every other outside shot had all kinds of people mulling about. Just NO for an Emmy submission.

by Anonymousreply 131February 21, 2023 12:53 PM

Episode 5 was entertaining, but not Emmy worthy. A little too far-fetched.

by Anonymousreply 132February 21, 2023 4:07 PM

Episode 5 was fun.

by Anonymousreply 133February 21, 2023 6:34 PM

Nobody died in the latest episode

by Anonymousreply 134February 21, 2023 10:53 PM

Not for lack of trying, R134. I liked that it didn't have a tidy ending.

by Anonymousreply 135February 22, 2023 2:10 AM

This show is amazing. Natasha for all the awards.

by Anonymousreply 136February 22, 2023 5:09 AM

Natasha’s character is as annoying as Columbo and Jessica Fletcher. Always butting in everyone’s business. We need someone just once to tell Charlie to shut the fuck up with that manly voice.

by Anonymousreply 137February 22, 2023 11:02 AM

There are two things wrong with this show:

1. The audience knows who did it from the start 2. Her cheat is a little too unrealistic and unsubtle. Too gimmicky. Why not just have her ask all the characters, “Did you do it?”

So what’s the point? I watched two episodes to see if they would change the format. I think her character is a little over the top, but not without appeal.

by Anonymousreply 138February 22, 2023 11:11 AM

I can't believe how much NL sounds like Julie Kavner's "Marge Simpson". If ever they have to cast the character of her mother in this series, they have to go with Julie Kavner. If Kavner says no, then they have to go with Sally Struthers - as NL looks a lot like SS when she was Lyonne's age.

by Anonymousreply 139February 22, 2023 4:12 PM

Cherry Jones looked unrecognisable in that wig. Loved her delivery of "Horse! Who are you?"

They could have included Tim Russ in the opening credits, that was nasty.

by Anonymousreply 140February 23, 2023 5:06 PM

[quote]1. The audience knows who did it from the start 2. Her cheat is a little too unrealistic and unsubtle. Too gimmicky. Why not just have her ask all the characters, “Did you do it?”

She's trying to get "cop evidence" so the guilty will suffer the consequences. Obviously, she could ask them outright if they did it and then watch them cover all their tracks, destroy existing evidence or try to kill her.

by Anonymousreply 141February 23, 2023 5:29 PM

Charlie in the horse head ascending the stairs...

Natasha directed this episode.

by Anonymousreply 142February 23, 2023 5:39 PM

How great was Cherry Jones?!?

by Anonymousreply 143February 23, 2023 5:43 PM

What’s a Cherry Jones?

by Anonymousreply 144February 23, 2023 6:32 PM

It's ok, but odd that she plays a disheveled drifter that has perfect makeup and amazing teeth. Also, the product placement is incredibly distracting and blatant. The Subway murder episode was basically a 50 minute commercial.

The showrunner said there is no product placement on this show. Every product they decided to include, they decided to include on their own and weren't compensated for it. You're seeing those products because the show takes place in our own universe where these products exist.

by Anonymousreply 146February 23, 2023 7:09 PM

R146 The showrunner might be telling the truth, but stills from the show would indicate that some sort of deal with Subway was involved.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 147February 23, 2023 7:19 PM

Why? You don't see Subway in real life?

Charlie constantly checking her Casio watch in the second episode seemed far more blatant, yet still wasn't product placement. Your belief that this show features product placement was reasonable and is quite widespread, it just happens to be incorrect in this particular case, that's it.

by Anonymousreply 148February 23, 2023 7:24 PM

R148 I didn't notice the Casio thing but will check out that episode again. Well spotted.

by Anonymousreply 149February 23, 2023 7:32 PM

I was actually looking up Casio watches online just that week, saw the episode, and then couldn't decide which model to buy because Charlie's looked so good. Still haven't settled on one!

I like Natasha a lot. She's a good actress, even though she tends to "play herself" in a lot of what she does. Chloë has more range IMO and is overall the better actress. As for the comments about Chloë looking rough: She's a lifelong chainsmoker pushing 50 and raising a toddler. It's no wonder the bitch looks tired. I remember seeing a post on her Instagram shortly after she had her son where she made a comment alluding to the fact that she'd quit smoking, but there are recent pictures of her with cigarettes in-hand, so she clearly didn't give it up. Natasha is also a chainsmoker, which is sketchy given her cardiovascular problems. I also had open-heart surgery in my late 20s (I had a congenital defect) and I quit smoking prior to/after that because it freaked me out too much. Not worth the risk.

by Anonymousreply 151February 23, 2023 8:10 PM

Natasha is great, her “bullshit meter” is just a touch gimmicky but the writers do a great job at keeping you guessing with a taut script and putting it on the back burner.

I had worked with two women at different points in my life that were exactly like her sunny character in Pokerface, they were SO much fun and a delight to be around.

They delve under the surface and put their spin on day to day interactions, sublimate the normal, and gleefully ingratiate themselves upon you with their spontaneous hilarity. They “touch” you whether you’re aware or not, with kindness and human touch. I work with another woman now that does this “touch” and connects at a much deeper level with others like you or I breathe. It’s a kind of intimacy you must learn very young and I’m a bit jealous.

I really loved how she showed up for a funeral, barely knowing the guy, MARY!

by Anonymousreply 152February 23, 2023 8:34 PM

Re: Natasha still smoking...the bitch has cheated death and a stalled Hollywood career several times. If anyone had told us she'd be the most successful of the 'American Pie' kids, we would've all been in disbelief. (Jennifer Coolidge was always golden as a character actress and is finally getting her due now.) All that to say, Natasha will probably still be around with Cher and the cockroaches after the apocalypse.

by Anonymousreply 153February 23, 2023 9:02 PM

Her reputation precedes her, that of an unreliable junkie. She'll never live it down.

I hope she's saving whatever she's earning at the moment. She's going to need every penny.

by Anonymousreply 154February 23, 2023 9:10 PM

She directed today's episode.

by Anonymousreply 155February 23, 2023 9:31 PM

R153 Natasha may pull a Courtney Love and outlive us all. It seems some people are just genetically built to withstand a lot of bodily abuse and damage. Others are not so lucky.

by Anonymousreply 156February 23, 2023 9:37 PM

She a druggie.

by Anonymousreply 157February 23, 2023 9:38 PM

R145 got everything wrong.

She’s not a disheveled drifter. She on the run from the mob. She can’t leave an electronic trail, so she takes crappy jobs to get by, have shelter and eat. She’s a smart cookie with no drug or alcohol addiction. She is supposed to be quirky.

See r146 on product placement

by Anonymousreply 158February 23, 2023 10:10 PM

If anything the Subway placement positioned the company in an even more dreary and soul crushing light for their operators.

There also weren’t any customers in several scenes, not a good look!

Nah, not product placement, just strapping a bit of reality to the narrative.

by Anonymousreply 159February 23, 2023 11:14 PM

I think this may have been my favorite episode yet. Great performances by Nick Nolte and Cherry Jones. Look for them to be up for Guest Actor and Actress in Drama Series. Cherry already has three of those, so I’d imagine she will also win this one. She could be up against Ellen Barkin, Judith Light, Hong Chau, Chloe Sevigny, or anyone showing up in the next couple of episodes... The whole category could conceivably be comprised of actresses from POKER FACE.

by Anonymousreply 160February 24, 2023 2:57 AM

[quote]Great performances by Nick Nolte and Cherry Jones.

Luis Guzman, too. My goodness, Nick Nolte is old, old, old.

I imagine the producers will have their pick of guest stars for next season. Who wouldn't want to play a murderer or a murderee and hang out for a week with Natasha?vbg

by Anonymousreply 161February 24, 2023 3:17 AM

Does Nick Nolte have Parkinson’s or was his character just shaky?

by Anonymousreply 162February 24, 2023 6:33 AM

[quote]Does Nick Nolte have Parkinson’s or was his character just shaky?

I think it may be Essential Tremor (ET), not Parkinson's. ET is not as well known to the general public as Parkinson's, even though it affects 8x as many people. It has some key differences with Parkinson's but is generally not as debilitating and does not have as many other symptoms. Also, the tremors in ET generally occur with movement, whereas Parkinson's tremors tend to be resting tremors.

Katharine Hepburn was the poster child for Essential Tremor, though many people still mistakenly think she had Parkinson's.

I've posted a link to some additional information.

So Cherry Jones eats snatch? She’s a lezzy.

by Anonymousreply 164February 24, 2023 8:39 AM

Nick Nolte just turned 82. He was also a ridiculously raging alcoholic for decades. It's a wonder he still has a liver.

by Anonymousreply 165February 24, 2023 10:21 AM

I wonder if these big names like guesting because they can smoke onscreen.

by Anonymousreply 166February 25, 2023 2:13 AM

I can't figure out why she's not packing heat. She confronts these killers with no protection.

by Anonymousreply 167February 25, 2023 2:29 AM

I love this show. It’s some of the best television I’ve seen in a long time.

by Anonymousreply 168February 25, 2023 2:32 AM

r166 Cherry Jones is a heavy smoker IRL. She deserves an Emmy for her episode. She's always brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 169February 26, 2023 1:52 AM

I keep reading OPs title as “what do you think of her face” and I keep thinking “Yeah, it looks smooth.”

by Anonymousreply 170February 26, 2023 2:15 AM

Natasha hasn't done drugs for many, many years. You guys are stupid. I've worked in mental health for years. It touchingly only takes a few weeks real clean time for people to start looking good again, especially men.

by Anonymousreply 171February 26, 2023 2:18 AM

[quote]Isn’t it weird that, wherever she is, someone gets murdered? Like Jessica Fletcher

Not AS weird. Unlike Jessica Fletcher (or Columbo, though as a detective you'd expect him to be around murders), who dealt mainly with crimes of the middle to upper classes, Charlie is moving through trailer trash country. Random homicides are probably quite a lot more plentiful there than they are in the Hamptons.

by Anonymousreply 172February 26, 2023 11:16 AM

The latest episode with Cherry Jones was a 10/10. I haven’t seen an actress chew scenery so well in years.

I loved every minute.

by Anonymousreply 173February 26, 2023 11:29 AM

And chew it she did, in the most fabulous way possible. The Emmy is hers.

by Anonymousreply 174February 26, 2023 12:48 PM

Why do people say she chewed it? Doesn’t that usually mean someone was OTT? I thought she was great.

by Anonymousreply 175February 26, 2023 12:57 PM

Where is Cherry Jones's house in the last episode? I looked on IMDb and it didn't say.

Was Nick Nolte acting or does he have some type of neurological issue?

by Anonymousreply 176February 26, 2023 12:57 PM

I see that the writers have given Natasha a twitch when she hears a lie so she doesn't have to explain why she keeps saying "bullshit."

Her lie-detecting ability was more consistent in this last episode. It seems as if it was coming and going for a while.

by Anonymousreply 177February 26, 2023 1:00 PM

Natasha should direct more episodes, because this one was great.

by Anonymousreply 178February 26, 2023 1:11 PM

It is entertaining but NOT some masterpiece.

I smell PR.

by Anonymousreply 179February 26, 2023 1:16 PM

R179, we aren’t PR shills. We just really are excited over a new show that we love.

by Anonymousreply 180February 26, 2023 1:28 PM

bullshit

by Anonymousreply 181February 26, 2023 1:29 PM

R175 it can also mean in a delicious manner.

“Chew (up the) scenery means 'to act melodramatically; overact'. Usually, it's in the context of a play or movie, but it can refer to an aunt of yours who is a frustrated actress. The connotation, either positive or negative, depends on whether the overacting is appropriate to the role or occasion.”

by Anonymousreply 182February 26, 2023 8:48 PM

Any vids out there of Cherry Jones eating pussy? I wanna see Cherry pop someone’s cherry.

by Anonymousreply 183February 26, 2023 10:41 PM

I enjoyed the first 5 episodes more than the last 3. Maybe the novelty is wearing off.

by Anonymousreply 184February 26, 2023 11:00 PM

The show really hit its stride in the episode with Chloe Sevigny. Since then it has stayed at a pretty high level.

by Anonymousreply 185February 26, 2023 11:03 PM

I love the show. Fun to watch

All the guest stars have been wonderful

by Anonymousreply 186February 26, 2023 11:27 PM

I agree with r184 about the first half of the season, though I am still really enjoying it.

by Anonymousreply 187February 27, 2023 5:22 AM

I’m three episodes in, the barbecue episode was a lot of fun. Really harkens back to “Columbo” in a great way, and the guest stars all seem to be relishing their roles. Im really enjoying this, and looking forward to more!

by Anonymousreply 188March 2, 2023 2:50 PM

I think I must be 'losing my religion'. I love to laugh. I'm a laugh pig, in fact. I'm often accused of laughing too easily.

This one has eluded me. Not sure why.

What I did see is how many top actors are now out of work & are having to do unfunny comedies.

by Anonymousreply 189March 2, 2023 3:04 PM

Episode 9 was fantastic! Is that the season finale? We're treated to Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a track suit throughout the episode. Nice bulge in a few shots.

by Anonymousreply 190March 2, 2023 7:00 PM

It’s a huge hit

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 191March 2, 2023 8:28 PM

I like it but something keeps me from really loving it. Maybe it's the formulaic nature of each episode or the brazen swipes from the Columbo style guide. Season two should be interesting if only to see if they can take it up a level.

by Anonymousreply 192March 2, 2023 9:29 PM

There's one more episode left and that's it for this season.

by Anonymousreply 193March 2, 2023 10:10 PM

I'm with r192 I like it well enough but I don't love it.

by Anonymousreply 194March 2, 2023 10:17 PM

It did not start well, but it keeps getting stronger and stronger with each episode. These last few have been fantastic.

That indicates that Season 2 can really be something.

by Anonymousreply 195March 2, 2023 10:42 PM

It's not great -- too predictable -- but there's not much out there to watch, so I guess I'll keep watching it.

by Anonymousreply 196March 2, 2023 11:07 PM

This last episode was really good.

by Anonymousreply 197March 3, 2023 2:16 AM

Episode 9 was my favorite so far. Brilliant twist!

by Anonymousreply 198March 3, 2023 2:37 AM

The final twist in the Chlöe Sevigny episode was clever and funny!

by Anonymousreply 199March 3, 2023 12:07 PM

Loved seeing David Castañeda. I enjoy him more than JGL at this point.

by Anonymousreply 200March 3, 2023 1:15 PM

My favorite part of the Chloe Sevigny episode was when the Krampus came out of the port-a-potty and she punched it back in. That was so f*cking hilarious to me.

by Anonymousreply 201March 3, 2023 4:24 PM

What happened to the hunky mountain man? Did I miss something?

by Anonymousreply 202March 3, 2023 5:27 PM

****spoiler*****

R202, you didn’t miss anything. It fast forwarded from Summer to the dead of winter. She was broke and sorta pan-handling for gas money.

The viewer can assume they broke up and she was stuck on shit mountain with no money, gas etc

by Anonymousreply 203March 3, 2023 9:53 PM

I’ve enjoyed all the episodes, but there was a bit of a lull for me in the middle episodes..but these last two installments have been stellar! I am expecting great things from the season finale. I hope I’m not disappointed.

I wish they’d cast someone other than Benjamin Bratt as the baddie. Well, I guess he’s baddie no. 2 since it seems the “Big Bad” is Ron Perlman. Bratt is pretty, but has never been very charismatic.

Nice seeing JGL and hottie David Castañeda. He’s a good actor.

by Anonymousreply 204March 4, 2023 2:38 AM

I loved how they telegraphed that JGL was a bad guy by having him live in this ridiculous mansion and refuse to tip the food delivery people.

by Anonymousreply 205March 4, 2023 3:02 AM

I was struck by the fact that so much of Joseph Gordon Levitt’s appeal years ago clearly had to do with his youth and freshness. He’s a middle-aged man now, still attractive, no question, but ordinary and lacking distinction and charisma. And yeah, his nice little package was often front and center if you were looking for it.

Agree with R204, I developed a bit of a crush on David Casteñeda during season one of “Umbrella Academy,” and would rather watch him, big puppy dog eyes, sexy mouth and ass.

by Anonymousreply 206March 5, 2023 1:28 PM

I too am a David Casteñeda devotee after this episode and have a soft spot for pale, pouty, round-butted swarthy Mexican men!

by Anonymousreply 207March 5, 2023 1:33 PM

JGL was about 10 years old too old for this part and looked it. He was still good though.

But that David Casteñeda. Damn. Hot and a good actor. Nice to see him in something other than Umbrella Academy.

by Anonymousreply 208March 5, 2023 1:42 PM

I love lyonne but her shtick is in danger of becoming old fast. Eventually it may be hard to see her play any other type.

by Anonymousreply 209March 5, 2023 3:05 PM

r206 nailed it regarding JGL. He got such a boost from his Mysterious Skin role precisely because of that.

I also developed a crush on David during the first season of the Umbrella Academy, especially after I saw him dancing. Hopefully it's all onwards and upwards for him.

by Anonymousreply 212March 5, 2023 7:56 PM

The racing episode with Tim Blake Nelson and Charles Melton sure had some interesting twists — and Melton was some welcome eye candy!

by Anonymousreply 213March 7, 2023 12:12 PM

Thought the racing episode was the weakest of the season and felt anti-climactic to boot.

Enjoyed the “Footloose” dance-off in episode one, season 4 of “Umbrella Academy” though.

by Anonymousreply 214March 7, 2023 12:58 PM

The last episode had Benjamin Bratt in very nice fitting pants, gyrating all over a yacht, HAWT! They tied up a lot of loose ends and I love how they knit together previous episode conversations.

by Anonymousreply 215March 9, 2023 10:54 AM

Bratt's tooshie indeed looked very nice in those pants and his bicep veins are to die for. His brown skin just in general looked amazing in that white outfit.

Wasn't really feeling the sister detour, seemed out of place. Didn't help that Natasha wasn't emoting enough while Clea was delivering her trauma monologue. There was a disconnect there.

Please tell me that was Swoosie Kurtz on the phone with Charlie.

by Anonymousreply 216March 9, 2023 7:18 PM

Rhea Durham

by Anonymousreply 217March 10, 2023 12:30 AM

r217 Yeah, I saw later on Reddit it was Rhea Perlman. Which... fine. I love Rhea Perlman, but she ain't no Swoosie Kurtz.

by Anonymousreply 218March 10, 2023 12:35 AM

Ron Perlman is always a delight to watch.

by Anonymousreply 219March 10, 2023 12:38 AM

The scene with her sister was very triggering for me because it echoed a conversation I had long ago and was just like my relationship with my brother today- he had the same resentment that I “ran off having fun to the city” and chose my life being gay while he stayed in our hometown.

When I confessed I was an addict in recovery, his response before I turned dejectedly away was,

“Hey, I gotta think about my kids”.

But I wasn’t wearing a sequined party dress.! Lol

by Anonymousreply 220March 10, 2023 10:50 AM

But I wasn’t wearing a sequined party dress.!

Well, not that night. You were wearing the cocktail dress with the large "mother of pearl" paillettes.

You can keep it, BTW.

It's not like I'll want to wear it now.

by Anonymousreply 221March 10, 2023 11:05 AM

Agreed, R219, Ron Perlman always does fine work.

I read a recent interview with Cherry Jones about her appearance on the show; the interviewer mentioned that the producers have stated that they hope to have some of the actors from Season One return later as different characters, the way “Columbo” did sometimes (Jack Cassidy, Patrick McGhoohan). Jones replied that after the response to the show, a lot of agents will be getting calls from actors wanting to be on the show.

Looking forward to Season Two of this fun show!

by Anonymousreply 222March 10, 2023 12:04 PM

Great last two episodes. I hope they get season two out quickly.

by Anonymousreply 229March 11, 2023 2:25 AM

"For a future season they could have the crime syndicate chase Charlie across Europe."

Or she could have a case where monkeys actually fly out of guy's butt.

And one of those monkeys only tells the truth, but he's the villain nonetheless.

Oh, no! Even better: one of the monkeys is her SISTER!

by Anonymousreply 230March 11, 2023 9:25 AM

r229 Great idea, but prohibitively expensive. Eight out of ten episodes this season were filmed in upstate New York.

by Anonymousreply 231March 11, 2023 9:27 AM

This show is apparently a huge hit and exactly the kinds of show these streaming services should be investing in: fun, cheap and niche but accessible.

by Anonymousreply 232March 12, 2023 5:48 AM

I was kind of disappointed by the last episode as I wanted a bigger twist of a finale.

by Anonymousreply 233March 12, 2023 10:04 AM

I can’t imagine anyone beating Natasha for the Emmy this year. Right?

by Anonymousreply 234March 12, 2023 12:23 PM

I’m loving this show. It’s certainly more lighthearted than Columbo, but I dig the guest actors and non-linear timelines. The Judith Light and S. Epatha Merkerson episode was a hoot. Benjamin Bratt has aged like a fine wine. No one should be that handsome.

by Anonymousreply 235March 12, 2023 12:34 PM

Benjamin Bratt looks fantastic. No wonder Julie Roberts wanted a piece of that years ago

by Anonymousreply 236March 12, 2023 3:40 PM

I've watched the first three episodes. I don't get the universal acclaim at all.

Lyonne is the best part of it. The rest...what's impressive?

The setup is impossible to believe. She's basically a superhero human lie detector, except that she's more than that, and she's being led randomly across the country to random places where murders occur just as she arrives in time to solve them.

It's a preposterous premise, and I haven't really enjoyed most of the stories in isolation. Natasha Lyonne is always fun to watch, and that's really the only thing that makes it worth watching to me.

by Anonymousreply 237March 12, 2023 3:57 PM

R237, it takes a bit time to hit its stride. The first few episodes are a bit of a slog. The Chloe Sevegny, Cherry Jones, and Joseph Gordon Levitt episodes are the strongest.

by Anonymousreply 238March 12, 2023 4:09 PM

No show is for everyone.

by Anonymousreply 239March 13, 2023 3:38 AM

Poker Face is a direct ripoff of Columbo; it's even resorted to lifting full lines of dialogue.

by Anonymousreply 240March 13, 2023 3:41 AM

Most people have never seen Columbo.

by Anonymousreply 241March 13, 2023 3:48 AM

R240 I don’t doubt you but I’m curious as to which lines have been lifted?

by Anonymousreply 242March 13, 2023 7:16 AM

I love the the opening credits mimic the credits for Columbo.

It is gracious that in every interview that everyone connected to Poker Face acknowledges how much is borrows from Columbo.

And I love that Lyonne has the same voice as Falk..

by Anonymousreply 243March 13, 2023 11:40 AM

Natasha has talked about being Columbo for a few years. As soon as I read her comments about being Columbo a few years ago I had been hoping for a remake, but Poker Facd does the job nicely.

Anyone that takes the premise of the show too seriously shouldn’t bother watching it.

I have had a few bumbling, hysterical friends that blather and posture somewhat aimlessly through life- just like the main character with a heart of gold just like her. They’ve gotten into trouble, land on their feet, and capture your hope and trust along the way. I really miss a few of them and am reminded of them when I watch this show.

What is so attractive is that you know the character cares about people in an uncommon way, her emotions come across genuinely, and there’s bits of unintended comedy around the deaths as well. Natasha really comes across as likable and caring in a way you don’t usually see.

Plus I want to see more of Benjamin, YUM!

by Anonymousreply 246March 13, 2023 4:08 PM

My superpower is that I can tell when a woman is pregnant.

It saved a life yet has also been disastrous as well!

Years ago, I read a book about how to read an aura, and can see an energy of what appears like a red, satiny bow similar to Minnie Mouse’s sitting atop someone’s head if they’re pregnant. The brighter and more shimmery, the better health of the baby, but it’s there!

The first time was a coworker, I blurted it out, and she nervously laughed it off. Six weeks later she thanked me because it was an ectopic pregnancy that might have killed her because she would not have gotten to a doctor soon enough had I not told her.

The second time was at another job, she’d been trying to hide the pregnancy and I ruined it telling another coworker and the guy she was involved with found out before she was ready to tell him, oops! She HATED me after that and made my job very difficult.

I don’t offer it up anymore.

I also could tell right away if my ex was lying because a red, energy dot similar to an Indian dot would appear on his forehead when he lied.

by Anonymousreply 247March 13, 2023 4:17 PM

That’s v interesting r247

Can u see it in photographs or have to be in person?

by Anonymousreply 248March 13, 2023 9:34 PM

You sound nuts, R247

by Anonymousreply 249March 13, 2023 9:37 PM

R248, 1. In person, both me and other person relaxed, and 2. to see the aura, you stare at the person but refocus your eye at the horizon. You should be able to see a greyish shimmer of energy around their silhouette. I needed to practice a bit, and like a muscle, will atrophy without regular use.

I haven’t seen one in awhile, but haven’t gone looking either.

My ex would get SO mad when I could spot him lying, it literally looked like a tiny spot of cherry jam that would quickly appear between his brows while lying. The truth is everyone has a “tell” if you look hard enough.

He was violent, the relationship ended badly, and I think the grace of being able to see that spot likely saved my life!
