How is this a thing?
Panic at the Disco, which is JUST ONE PERSON, to disband

I'm assuming it means Brendan Urie intends on dropping the band name.

It may be for financial reasons, to redistribute past royalties, cease streaming arrangements, or to dissolve tax or renegotiate other business obligations the other partners had previously signed on to in the past. They (or Brendon) may have no other way to bow out from paying long term support staff, retirement or office rent agreements.
Maybe somebody wanted a lump sum pay out, or there was serious debt and the lawyers suggested this was the golden parachute to get out from underneath it.

It means he’ll no longer be releasing music under that name

Goodbye, Panic! I guess we'll always have "Pray for the Wicked," (an album hated by true Panic! fans but beloved by your fair weather fans, like me.) Too soon.
Here's a fav live performance.

I think it's time for a new name, one that incorporates aspects of the past. I propose, Urine At The Disco!
