Let's Talk About Things You Don't See Anymore- Sad 😥- Man With Iron Lung

I would feel claustrophobic stuck to that device.

[R1] Some bars in New Orleans still have cigarette vending machines, a blast from the past for sure. Avenue Pub on St Charles Ave still has them.

by Anonymousreply 7January 24, 2023 10:37 PM

I've been saying for a long time now that you don't see iron lungs around much nowadays.

My contribution would be fax machines. I've not seen on in ages.

Good old fashioned crack addicts - I learned how to work with them and then everyone switched to meth.

It’s the attention span as well as the mood. Crack heads are direct-able because they don’t want to stay in one place; Meth heads cobble together a scenario and I’m always the bad guy who says “no”, so I receive full drama over bullshit.

The foot-operated headlight brightness button that used to be on car floors, extreme left.

Greeting cards in variety stores and pharmacies that were bound in cellophane, numbered and arranged systematically(but were irretrievable) so you could see them. Once you had made your decision, the actual cards supply was in drawers underneath.

Electrically-lit bouquets of flowers mounted on a door frame where there had been a death. A card included the person's name, funeral home and where and when burial was to take place. This custom eventually stopped, because thieves would target these specific homes, knowing they'd be unoccupied for several hours on the day in question.

Troughs for watering horses, and mounting blocks.

A two-man team to operate a trolley/streetcar. One at the front where you got on actually "drove" the vehicle(it was run by a series of switches, no steering wheel involved), the other, situated at the middle door where you paid and eventually disembarked.

Wow. I thought I was gonna get the clean sweep, R39, but delighted to say you lost me after the greeting cards.
