Actors unfortunately don’t carry movies anymore, the IPs do the heavy lifting. There are maybe 3 or 4 actors, mostly from the 90s, that still have some pull, but no one else apart from them fills a theater with their name.

Anyone that Hollywood has pushed in the last 15 to 20 years; typically bland, sexless, rich kids who have seemingly random, overnight big followings on social media (clearly bots).

Box office poison suggests another actor in the role might have resulted in a different outcome.
It's not just that the actor was in movies that didn't sell tickets. MOST movies dont sell any tickets today, they go straight to streaming.

by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 23, 2023 8:09 AM |
Make no mistake they are panicking over at Team Chalamet Headquarters right now. His PR's narrative has been spoiled now that we know what happens when he doesn't have a franchise or genuine stars in the cast to help him out. The movie flopped hard and he didn't even get in at the Indie Spirit awards where he had won before. They can say he was borderline supporting all they want but what other high profile male actor was above him in that movie? Also, the rise of Austin Butler isn't making the situation any better.

Definitely Timothée Chalamet.
Every single film he's been in has been a box office flop. Except Dune and that wasn't because of him.
Here's a list detailed one box office bomb after the other. Audiences don't like him.
But still he gets all these roles. I don't get it.

R36 that bitch better pray Snow White 2024 isn't a bomb after all of her idiocy, though its looking bad right now, very bad, because after the disaster of 2021's West Side Story they won't even hire her to clean their toilets in Hollywood if it does (it will, and deservedly so).

Jennifer Aniston. I have no idea what gave her the impression that she could ever be a movie star.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 17, 2023 2:21 PM |
Had he won the Oscar for Elvis as many predicted (I am glad he did not—he was fine, but it felt mainly like a Vegas impersonation), people would be hearing much more about Butler. It may be that it was his one shot at big stardom or he may have a second act down the road—he’s young.

I just read somewhere about the Meg 2 movie. It was not big in the usa & big biz everywhere else. So - does this topic take in world box office? I never really thought about it like that. Also - looked up Tom Cruise - i thought he had his day (ignore top gun 2) - but most of his films did ok in usa & huge box office world wide. So was Tom ever really box office poison? This post is really a question - what really is box office poison ?
