Why don't more famous people die in accidents?
Not wishing death on anyone, but you always hear about non-famous people drowning, dying in freak accidents, dying in plane and car crashes. Celebrities rarely do.
Celebrities mostly die from illnesses and drug overdoses. I know a few have been in accidents, like Kobe Bryant, Jeremy Renner and Anne Heche, but it's rare. Celebs get a lot of attention so you would notice if they were having accidents like non-famous people.

The ones who fly around in helicopters or jets probably have very competent pilots flying them around and some celebs are probably smart enough to refuse in bad conditions.

There was a similar thread as this years ago, and I remember pondering then that for all the flying/travelling they do, we don't have any dead models (I shudder to call today's models "supermodels"). Next time I fly, and I am finally forced to fly a Death Max Boeing, hopefully a model will be somewhere on board.

R32 That was a murder. With a lot of the nutso fans or stalkers in the world, I'm still kind of surprised there hasn't been John Lennon, Selena, or Rebecca Schaeffer type murders. I know Selena and Schaeffer weren't really that famous when they died. But, they died at the hands of nutsos.

Actually, I think we hear about MORE celebrities who die (OR NEARLY DIE) in private accidents, because
1) they take far more private airplane and helicopter rides than ordinary people do (see Kobe Bryant, Paul Wellstone, Mel McCarnahan, etc.) ;
2) they often have dangerous expensive hobbies like collecting and driving snow plows (Jeremy Renner) or flying light aircraft (Harrison Ford) that poorer people cannot afford,

Plenty of celebrities die in accidents, as others have pointed out. But having an entourage probably helps in some situations. It might've meant the difference between life and death for Naya Rivera.

R21 Anton Yelchin still makes me so sad. Such potential lost. He really stood out from his peers the bland Michael Cera and the pretentious and aloof Jesse Eisenberg. One of the few celebrity deaths that felt similar to family loss.

I don't know if this counts but actor Vic Morrow, Jennifer Jason Leigh's father, was decapitated by a helicopter's rotor blades while filming the Twilight Zone movie in 1982. Two children were also killed.

r44 is correct, celebs are more likely to die in accidents due to their lifestyles - more travel for professional reasons, more reckless behavior in the case of many younger famous people.
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bill Graham both died in helicopter crashes. The number of famous people who died in auto accidents is too numerous to list here. James Dean, Paul Walker, etc. The number of freak accidents is high as well: Bill Holden who died after falling face first into a glass table (while drunk, allegedly); Jack Cassidy burned to death in an apartment fire; Leslie Harvey of 70s rock band Stone the Crows electrocuted on stage from a live mic.

OP doesn't understand how statistics work.
The media tends to report the best and the worst. But the worst such as people dying in horrible freak accidents are a very small percentage. And the best such as celebrities are also a very small percentage.
In reality celebrities probably have about the same chance of dying in a freak accident as the rest of us do. Which is a very small chance again.
It's simply because the media reports these rare incidents and people that you're left with the impression that they happen far more frequently than they do.
