Why don't more famous people die in accidents?

Not wishing death on anyone, but you always hear about non-famous people drowning, dying in freak accidents, dying in plane and car crashes. Celebrities rarely do.

Celebrities mostly die from illnesses and drug overdoses. I know a few have been in accidents, like Kobe Bryant, Jeremy Renner and Anne Heche, but it's rare. Celebs get a lot of attention so you would notice if they were having accidents like non-famous people.

by Anonymousreply 83January 23, 2023 1:21 PM

George Costanza, major league ball teams, airplanes ….

by Anonymousreply 1January 22, 2023 9:15 PM

The ones who fly around in helicopters or jets probably have very competent pilots flying them around and some celebs are probably smart enough to refuse in bad conditions.

by Anonymousreply 2January 22, 2023 9:16 PM

Something to ponder, OP.

by Anonymousreply 3January 22, 2023 9:17 PM

[quote] The ones who fly around in helicopters or jets probably have very competent pilots flying them around

Pffft. Competent?

by Anonymousreply 4January 22, 2023 9:57 PM

You may be right, OP I can’t decide.

by Anonymousreply 5January 22, 2023 9:58 PM

At least you are aware my death was not an accident.

by Anonymousreply 6January 22, 2023 10:00 PM

They have people to do that for them, OP. That's what the poors are for.

by Anonymousreply 7January 22, 2023 10:06 PM

It's a mystery....

by Anonymousreply 8January 22, 2023 11:10 PM

Thankfully my breasts suffocated me before my head came off.

by Anonymousreply 9January 22, 2023 11:15 PM

Get fucked OP.

by Anonymousreply 10January 22, 2023 11:17 PM

Sometimes they had fag hags like Liz Taylor to save their lives after potentially fatal car crashes.

by Anonymousreply 11January 22, 2023 11:19 PM

Sonny Bono

JFK Jr.

Ricky Nelson

James Dean

Aaliyah

Lisa Left Eye Lopez

Natasha Richardson

Otis Redding

Linda Darnell

Buddy Holly

John Denver

by Anonymousreply 12January 22, 2023 11:21 PM

OP what percentage of the entire population would be considered famous or a celebrity. I think it would be a pretty small percentage overall.

by Anonymousreply 13January 22, 2023 11:23 PM

Stupidest thread ever.

by Anonymousreply 14January 22, 2023 11:23 PM

I guess I have been forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 21January 22, 2023 11:34 PM

Was Sony Bono decapitated? I can't find details of the accident anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 22January 22, 2023 11:34 PM

What about us old timers?

by Anonymousreply 23January 22, 2023 11:37 PM

Maybe, there should be a sister thread titled "Why aren't more politicians assassinated?"

by Anonymousreply 24January 22, 2023 11:38 PM

Wasn't Carole Lombard decapitated in the crash?

by Anonymousreply 25January 22, 2023 11:38 PM

R25 I think she was only scalped.

by Anonymousreply 26January 22, 2023 11:39 PM

No. Why would you think that?

by Anonymousreply 33January 22, 2023 11:57 PM

R30 Carole was burned to a crisp with a crushed head, but in one piece. Not decapitated.

Here's her death certificate.

There was a similar thread as this years ago, and I remember pondering then that for all the flying/travelling they do, we don't have any dead models (I shudder to call today's models "supermodels"). Next time I fly, and I am finally forced to fly a Death Max Boeing, hopefully a model will be somewhere on board.

by Anonymousreply 35January 22, 2023 11:59 PM

I actually wonder if JFK Jr.'s plane crash scared off some famous people from pursuing pilot training and private licenses.

by Anonymousreply 36January 23, 2023 12:11 AM

I am a famous person and I died in an accident.

I have my pilots license R36. I also invented flight.

by Anonymousreply 39January 23, 2023 12:14 AM

R32 That was a murder. With a lot of the nutso fans or stalkers in the world, I'm still kind of surprised there hasn't been John Lennon, Selena, or Rebecca Schaeffer type murders. I know Selena and Schaeffer weren't really that famous when they died. But, they died at the hands of nutsos.

by Anonymousreply 40January 23, 2023 12:14 AM

^^I meant to type there hasn't been any more John Lennon, Selena, or Rebecca Schaeffer type murders"

Did you take flight lessons from John Travolta?

by Anonymousreply 43January 23, 2023 12:17 AM

Actually, I think we hear about MORE celebrities who die (OR NEARLY DIE) in private accidents, because

1) they take far more private airplane and helicopter rides than ordinary people do (see Kobe Bryant, Paul Wellstone, Mel McCarnahan, etc.) ;

2) they often have dangerous expensive hobbies like collecting and driving snow plows (Jeremy Renner) or flying light aircraft (Harrison Ford) that poorer people cannot afford,

by Anonymousreply 44January 23, 2023 12:20 AM

Brandy, Matthew Broderick, and Caitlyn Jenner each [italic]caused[/italic] fatal car accidents.

by Anonymousreply 45January 23, 2023 12:21 AM

Plenty of celebrities die in accidents, as others have pointed out. But having an entourage probably helps in some situations. It might've meant the difference between life and death for Naya Rivera.

by Anonymousreply 46January 23, 2023 12:24 AM

R21 Anton Yelchin still makes me so sad. Such potential lost. He really stood out from his peers the bland Michael Cera and the pretentious and aloof Jesse Eisenberg. One of the few celebrity deaths that felt similar to family loss.

by Anonymousreply 47January 23, 2023 12:26 AM

I don't know if this counts but actor Vic Morrow, Jennifer Jason Leigh's father, was decapitated by a helicopter's rotor blades while filming the Twilight Zone movie in 1982. Two children were also killed.

R48 Yeh I'd say that counted as a freak accident

by Anonymousreply 52January 23, 2023 12:45 AM

r44 is correct, celebs are more likely to die in accidents due to their lifestyles - more travel for professional reasons, more reckless behavior in the case of many younger famous people.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bill Graham both died in helicopter crashes. The number of famous people who died in auto accidents is too numerous to list here. James Dean, Paul Walker, etc. The number of freak accidents is high as well: Bill Holden who died after falling face first into a glass table (while drunk, allegedly); Jack Cassidy burned to death in an apartment fire; Leslie Harvey of 70s rock band Stone the Crows electrocuted on stage from a live mic.

I died in a scarf accident.

by Anonymousreply 55January 23, 2023 1:07 AM

Jesus, death from a live mic? I didn't know that was even possible.

There was a newsreader here in Sydney whose brother was killed a few years ago when a grease trap overflowed onto the floor and electrocuted him.

Electricity is fucking scary, man.

by Anonymousreply 69January 23, 2023 1:38 AM

OP doesn't understand how statistics work.

The media tends to report the best and the worst. But the worst such as people dying in horrible freak accidents are a very small percentage. And the best such as celebrities are also a very small percentage.

In reality celebrities probably have about the same chance of dying in a freak accident as the rest of us do. Which is a very small chance again.

It's simply because the media reports these rare incidents and people that you're left with the impression that they happen far more frequently than they do.
