Fall (2022)

The premise was stupid. The plot was thin. The dialogue was cliched. The acting was ho-hum.

But as someone who is terrified of heights, holy shit, I've never had so much anxiety watching a film.

Why did you watch it then? I have vertigo and don't watch entertainments based on it. The anxiety is unpleasant. There's no lesson, there's no pleasure.

Curiosity got the better of me r1

by Anonymousreply 2January 18, 2023 1:10 PM

It's similar to what impels people to watch horror movies, I suppose

by Anonymousreply 3January 18, 2023 2:20 PM

I wish I'd seen it on the big screen

by Anonymousreply 4January 18, 2023 6:06 PM

I've been waiting for this to stream. I'm terrified of heights too so it should be torture! R3 is right, it's the same counter-phobic impulse that's behind watching any scary movie.

Too bad the plot and dialogue is lousy though.

by Anonymousreply 5January 18, 2023 8:37 PM

It's not the kind of movie you watch for plot and dialogue though.

by Anonymousreply 6January 18, 2023 8:56 PM

It should have been shorter. The longer it went on, the more absurd it became

We watched that on Christmas Day. That was a fun ride! I had about 27 anxiety attacks though.

by Anonymousreply 10March 14, 2023 8:57 PM

r10 sometimes when I'm falling (heh) asleep I think about it and get anxious again

by Anonymousreply 11March 14, 2023 9:00 PM

I love trashy "stupid people in peril" movies like this - I also like the one about the people who get stuck in the ski-lift, even though it's terrible and full of ridiculous plot holes. I think there's an element of schadenfreude involved in watching the characters win their own Darwin award.

by Anonymousreply 12March 14, 2023 9:47 PM

Is the ski lift movie worth watching r12?

by Anonymousreply 13March 14, 2023 10:12 PM

It really depends on what your tolerance for trashy films is. Sometimes I rewatch it and wonder "why did I do this". I still do it though anyway.

by Anonymousreply 14March 14, 2023 11:00 PM

Wait -- are you referring to Frozen r14? I think I saw that years ago

by Anonymousreply 15March 14, 2023 11:08 PM

[quote] holy shit,

OP, you need to stay at home.

Yeah, that's the one. Don't make the same mistake as I did though and accidentally download the awful kid's film.

I don't know why that movie hasn't sent parents into a gun-toting massacre.

I was angry at myself for not predicting that plot twist, because it's been used in so many similar movies before.

by Anonymousreply 18March 15, 2023 1:52 AM

I must be unfamiliar with the genre, because I didn't see it coming, r18. I thought the film got progressively worse as it went on

by Anonymousreply 19March 15, 2023 8:18 AM

It takes a long time to climb a tower of that height. They should have significantly extended the climbing sequence to create a sense of realism.

by Anonymousreply 20March 25, 2023 3:22 PM

Believe it or not, a sequel to Fall is in the making.

Movies like this really should not have sequels. They did the same thing with Open Water and I was like wtf?

by Anonymousreply 21March 25, 2023 3:48 PM

Source r21? (Just curious)

Movies that people who are afraid of heights shouldn't watch:

This had the possibility to be so much better. The premise was there, the tension was there, but the acting was horrible and the ending was not realistic based on the situation presented. In more capable hands this could have been much more thrilling.

by Anonymousreply 26April 1, 2023 7:03 PM

Agree r26

[quote]Jesús told me that climbing the towers is only part of the danger; there are also huge yellow jackets and bees’ nests. One must quietly pass by them; nowhere to run, after all. And then the bird poop that accumulates on the ladder, when wet, is slippery as ice, and when dry, kicks up a disgusting dust. Angry mama birds will dive bomb you. You also have to watch out for your fellow climbers accidentally dropping tools. A hammer dropped 200 feet above you moves at well over 100 miles an hour – hard hats are a must. And then there’s lightning.

[quote]“If you hear thunder,” he said, “get off the tower.”

How could they possibly make a sequel?

by Anonymousreply 29April 2, 2023 2:35 PM

I keep having dreams about this movie
