In the U.S. we wouldn't allow the public to walk on a path on someone else's farmland.

You are supposed to carry an emergency beach ball when venturing amongst cows.

The inquest heard they entered a field at JA Mitchell & sons’ farm, and followed a public footpath up a steep hill, unaware that several dozen cows with calves were at the top of the slope.
We were hoping they would stay on the udder side of the slope, but they didn't.

I just hope the trodden didn’t carry covid or distemper.

This story sounds a bit Flyoverstan-ish.

Seems an apt time to bring back the "owl did it" theory in the Staircase death.

You guys are really milking this thread for all it's worth.

This is how Planet of the Apes started. One day it's "oops, we accidently killed a couple of humans" and the next thing you know, they've got us cages.

R4- Are you suggesting that Tori Spelling was involved in this?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 17, 2023 2:07 PM |

They should have started hoofing it when they herd the cows coming.

They should have brought a jazz band with them.

Happens in the Alps every year.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 17, 2023 8:33 PM |
In all seriousness, I wonder if the cows were spooked by something. Unless it was a bull (in which case they would've been gored, not trampled) or maybe they got too close to the baby cows, cows tend to be pretty passive and indifferent, just sort of meandering around and pooping.
Why does the UK have such cranky cows? Is there some coming global cow anxiety crisis we should prepare for?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 17, 2023 8:39 PM |
Yes, it's called Irate Cow Disease (to distinguish it from that earlier variant).
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 17, 2023 8:47 PM |
I can't read The Guardian because it's behind a paywall but I bet they've got an angle blaming someone because they're capitalist pigs (or capitalist cows)

Bees, dogs and cows are America's top killer animals.
"Each year, cows kill about 20 people, typically by kicking or trampling. And about three-quarters of those incidents are reportedly deliberate attacks. "

Two words...Animal Farm.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 17, 2023 8:50 PM |
R28, the article mentions that the couple had their daughter's dogs with them. The farmer thinks the cows may have viewed the dogs as predators towards their calves, and thus became aggressive. (the article doesn't state what kind dogs they were, but I'm assuming they were larger dogs, not little Chihuahuas or Yorkies)
