Arguably, the peak of television sitcoms. Which one was the supreme?
Best Sitcom of the 90s

OP, you forgot Will & Grace. Also, why is "Home Improvement" there? I hated that show and Tim Allen is an asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 16, 2023 5:08 PM |
Home Improvement was a massive hit but I always wondered who was watching that show.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 16, 2023 5:11 PM |
NewsRadio was better than at least 8 shows in the poll.

So OP shouldn’t have listed shows YOU didn’t like? You can’t be that arrogant.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 16, 2023 5:16 PM |
Looking at the list on the poll, none of them seemed that good. And to echo R3, where's "NewsRadio"?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 16, 2023 5:17 PM |
NewsRadio was better than at least 8 shows in the poll.
Out of curiosity, who was your favorite character on that show?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 16, 2023 5:17 PM |
Seinfeld is uniformly terrible and I can't believe people loved it.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 16, 2023 5:18 PM |
"High Society" was DL fave Jean Smart was ahead of its time and cancelled way too soon
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 16, 2023 5:19 PM |
^^ _with_ DL fave...
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 16, 2023 5:20 PM |
New Yorkers will automatically vote for Seinfeld.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 16, 2023 5:28 PM |
I know "Home Improvement" was an hit show, but it was garbage.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 16, 2023 5:42 PM |
That list is arguably the peak of television sitcoms? Really?
Mary Tyler Moore, MASH, the Simpsons, Absolutely Fabulous, the Odd Couple, Murphy Brown, and I could go on. And on.
You suck at this, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 16, 2023 5:56 PM |
Mary Tyler Moore? MASH?
Seriously? You think those were 90s sitcoms?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 16, 2023 6:05 PM |
R13 no one asked you, Krispy Kreme.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 16, 2023 6:07 PM |
Frasier and Will and Grace. My two cents.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 16, 2023 6:14 PM |
No, brain-damaged R14, I think those are arguably the peak of sit-coms. Not "Friends" and "Hope Improvement" for fuck's sake.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 16, 2023 6:28 PM |
Well, Professor Highbrow, the question wasn’t what’s the greatest sitcom of all time now, was it?
It was what was the greatest sitcom of the 90s.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 16, 2023 6:57 PM |
I can watch Will & Grace all day. It's such a comfort show. But the answer is Frasier.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 16, 2023 7:45 PM |
I would've also added "Martin", "Everybody Loves Raymond", "The King of Queens" and "3rd Rock from the Sun"
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 16, 2023 7:54 PM |
I don't think Seinfeld has aged well. Surprised to see it in the lead.
Roseanne ultimately destroyed her show and is a terrible human being, we know...but when it was good, it was brilliant.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 16, 2023 8:04 PM |
Sherry, Niles?

What series from the nineties has aged well?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 16, 2023 8:43 PM |
R23 Of that poll, I dare to say that "Fresh Prince", "The Nanny" and "Married with Children" have aged way better than "Seinfield", specially since those 3 I mentioned before have more following among younger generations.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 16, 2023 8:49 PM |
Nothing on this list comes anywhere close to the greatness of seasons 4-7 of Seinfeld. (The show shouldn't have gone on after season 7, but that's another discussion.)

R18, the OP posted thusly:
Best Sitcom of the 90s
Okay, fine.
[bold] Arguably, the peak of television sitcoms.
This is where it went wrong. The dreck listed by the OP are NOT arguably the peak of television sitcoms (in any decade), hence my justified disagreement with the dumb OP's post.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show was actually the peak of television sitcoms.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 16, 2023 9:21 PM |
Oops, shutting off "bold" now.
[/bold]
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 16, 2023 9:22 PM |
No love for Mad About You.
Looks like one Lez picked Home Improvement
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 17, 2023 1:18 PM |
Hardly any love for Friends. That's fucking fantastic! That's worth the subscription price alone!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 18, 2023 9:26 AM |
The Wonder Years ran from '88 to '93. Great writing, casting, and acting. The Wonder Years, along with Frasier are two of the all-around finest shows ever on TV.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 18, 2023 9:53 PM |
Just admit you’re on crack R26 and you read OP’s post wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 18, 2023 9:58 PM |
Hell, if Wonder Years counts, I nominate Golden Girls…even though the last season sucked.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 18, 2023 9:59 PM |
Roseanne was perhaps the best sitcom of the 80s. The early 90s seasons were great too. But by the end of the series, she had too much control. The last couple of seasons really tarnished the show's legacy.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 18, 2023 10:01 PM |
Simpsons was funnier than all of them
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 18, 2023 10:04 PM |
Home Improvement seemed more like a TGIF or Saturday morning sitcom than primetime. It really appealed to kids and families. I get why it was a hit, Tim Allen's conservative "all-American" values had an audience, also the supporting cast was strong. No surprise, he revealed he was a right-winger, I can't even watch the first Santa Clause again because his conservatism shows in that too.
I agree with the poster, early Simpsons was just brilliant. Roseanne and Married with Children also brilliant. I love Seinfeld but it was grating in early seasons and found its strength in the middle seasons. Friends gets too much hate, it's a fine sitcom and did everything right though too traditional and formulaic. I love Fresh Prince but it's not the best though it aged well. Same deal with The Nanny.
I'd say Frasier.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 18, 2023 10:19 PM |
Friends was a fairytale. Its success is a sign of how many people just want to switch their brains off when they watch TV.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 18, 2023 11:04 PM |
California Dreams Felicity
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 19, 2023 4:12 AM |
Definitely Frasier. That show was brilliant.
