She had all the right factors for super stardom but screwed it up by being high out of her mind and also not very bright. She was brave to stand up to Prince when everyone else was kissing his ass but she should have swallowed her pride and did Purple Rain and ride on the success. Apollonia had no charisma or talent and her career was dead on-arrival. Vanity managed to still have somewhat of a career in music (Motown fucked her albums and did a terrible job promoting) and her acting career was going somewhere (The Last Dragon is still a cult classic). But she got deeper into drugs and involved with some awful, evil men who would beat the shit out of her. Finding God probably did save her life because she was on a path of self-destruction. Even then she still got with awful men. Her whole life is tragic. Yes, she is one of the most beautiful woman I've seen photographed.

Apollonia was also beautiful when young but her beauty is very different. And it's not just Vanity's beauty but her charisma and sexy aura. She had an aura. Apples was just another pretty Playboy pinup. I think they looked nothing alike and Apples played her character in Purple Rain as too dumb, weak and emotional. I think Vanity would have played her more mysterious and strong femme fatale as intended by the dialogue.

We had a long thread on Vanity a couple of years ago that was really good. I said back then and I still believe it; she was too beautiful for her own good. Being so good looking is a mixed bag for a woman if she doesn’t have the self-esteem to manage that kind of power.

R30 Honestly Madonna copied so many woman. Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Vanity 6, Debbie Harry and many others. Vanity 6 were dressed up in lingerie and singing sexually explicit lyrics on TV shows while Madge was still in NYC trying to get a record deal.
